Lockdown Senator Chris Murphy Calls for a Department of Introducing People to Other People and Agency of Arranging Adult Play-Dates

As Chris Murphy was a vigorous proponent of locking everyone in their homes and making them watch Netflix and porn instead of engaging with friends and family, David Strom calls this a case of the arsonist pretending to be the firefighter.

Chris Murphy has a reason to hire more government bureaucrats sucking money from the taxpayers like vampires: acting as Playdate Chaperones for Adults or something.

Is there any social issue that elected officials don't think they can solve? Loneliness is a highly complex phenomenon, produced by an interplay of cultural components and personal psychological attributes. One senator thinks he can fix it with bureaucracy and "public awareness."

On Tuesday, Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy announced the introduction of his "National Strategy for Social Connection," a bill that would create "a federal office to combat the growing epidemic of American loneliness, develops anti-loneliness strategies, and fosters best practices to promote social connection," as Murphy put it.

I think there's little doubt that this is a problem. However, I'd like Chris Murphy to point to a single social ill that government intervention has cured.

...

Murphy's bill would create an "Office of Social Connection Policy to advise the president on loneliness and isolation," order federal agencies to implement a "national strategy on social connection," and start a public awareness campaign to educate people about fostering connections.

"Similar to existing national guidelines on nutrition, sleep, and physical activity, the Office would issue research-based best practices on how to better engage and connect with our local communicates," Murphy's summary of the bill states.

U.S. nutrition guidelines, of course, have a long history of being ridiculously unscientific and plagued by cronyism. And whatever one thinks about nutrition and physical activity guidelines today, there's no denying that Americans are massively overweight and way too sedentary. So, I'd hardly call these things models of efficacy.

In fact, national guidelines on how to be less lonely are bound to work about as well as nutrition and physical fitness guidelines have: not at all.

The whole project seems designed to create work for people at federal agencies (and ostensibly good press for Murphy.

He also proposes to give money to the CDC to study the causes of loneliness.

Do you imagine that the CDC will study how its own lockdowns caused isolation and social disconnection?

Or do you think they'll conclude this is all due to Global Warming, Gun Ownership, and a Lack of Diversity?

And that maybe we can all better connect with each other if we bring our children to Drag Queen Story Hours?

I spend about 90% of my free time by myself.

Yet, even I can manage to get out and meet people once in a while. Did that this summer, as a matter of fact, by joining a local church men's group.

It's not hard. Just takes a bit of effort and desire.

Red China does this. In an effort to get young people to get married and have kids, they have state-sponsored "meet markets" to try to get singles together to pair off, and lots of documentation and whatnot for local Party officials on what they can do to get people to get together.

It doesn't work there, and they actually have a strong-compliance system.

Here is what I believe is the secret to happiness:
First, the non-denominational things:
1. Find something good to occupy your time
2. Find someone good to love
3. Find something good to look forward to, and work toward that goal
4. Take care of your body

Now, the denominational advice:
5. Take positive steps to improve your relationship with God

119 Here is what I believe is the secret to happiness:

Money.
Yes, the Bible says "for the love of money is the root of all evil". That means forsaking everything to get money. Family, friends, morals, etc.

But having money? Not having to worry about paying the mortgage and bills and taxes? Not having to worry where your next meal is coming from or if there will be one?

Having money allows you to pursue any and everything that makes you happy.

Me? I have half of it. I have the land. I just need to build the center and be able to run it and pay the mortgage and all the bills. And i would have the finest wildlife rehabilitation center in Texas. That would make me happy.

But that takes money. Money I don't have.

Was out with the wife one night and this guy about our age overhears us talking and butts in. Some small talk about golf and he mentions he's in a league and asks if I'd want to meet up with him and his buddies some time to play.

Straight up told him nope. He couldn't believe it. Told him I'm good and if we exchange numbers, he's just forcing me to lie to him at some point in the near future about why I can't go.

Whole ride home my wife was in awe of how I could be that blunt but also so indifferent to having friends. It's a gift, I suppose.

its not really 1B. That's the 30 year pay out. Interest rates are up. The lump sum is like 516million, before taxes which then takes about half. Which leaves enough for a small island some light anti aircraft guns, and some manpads, maybe some mortars. You may have enough left over for a 130 foot yacht.

189 There's still plenty teaching Jesus: resurrection and the Devil's Hell. You might have to drive a few minutes to find them, but they're out there.

Matter of fact I'm betting more and more are standing up now that the gays have openly admitted they're after the children.

Probably 50% of our parishioners drive 30 minutes or more to attend service.

Probably 80% of our parishioners didn't grow up in our denomination.

There are many, many good churches out there for those that wish to fellowship and offer praises to God.

And there are many, many churches that could find their footing again if faithful men and women re-entered the doors and began the reformation of wayward churches.

We often lament at churches "gone woke" but rarely do we think it's our place to go in and lead a church to return to the Scripture. Mostly because we secretly don't want to and don't care.

264 I'm not completely an anti-social creature. It's merely that everybody I'd *want* to associate with has left here for greener, or perhaps cooler, pastures. Everybody who's left either loves it here, or hates it and doesn't want to talk about it, or is ugly and fat. Or all three. (A love/hate relationship, I mean.)

It's tough making good friends when you're an adult. As a kid or a teen at school, sure. But now you and the potential new friend have baggage -- which is also part of why our childhood/adolescent friendships don't often last into adulthood. "Yield curve inversion" is what it's called then US government debt interest rates start favoring short-term instruments.

In a normal market, the interest rate goes up the longer it is to maturity, because the risks are higher. A 4-week Treasury bill will pay less - that is, have a lower interest rate/lower-yield - than a 30-year Treasury bond will. The shorter the term, the lower the risk and therefore the lower the rate.

During an inversion, this starts shifting. The short-term debt starts costing the government more (and therefore paying the investor more - two sides of the same coin) than the longer-term debt. When this happens persistently, it is almost always because either there are default risks (debt ceiling fights, government shutdowns, etc.) or because the players in the market fear a recession is here or coming soon, and so move their investments around into relative safety by moving to different positions, especially with regard to maturity time.

I will not go anywhere NEAR a USA 'female' real or otherwise. They have decided to commit to a harem value, with Uncle Sugar as their daddy that supplies them and might step out for some clitoris sex. There is zero value in USA women.

New California fire insurance policies are locked up by the insurers so home mortgage market is near zero to cash only buyers.

That means counties are facing Armageddon because they always budget for the future expected increase in property taxes. And state government looking for future capital gains that won't be happening.

Gavin Twosome looking to GTFO before his house of cards collapses...and people can't leave because buyers of the houses can't get fire insurance.

Yep. That's how they are. Our local Extension Office Master Gardener's Club has a booth every Saturday at the local Farmer's Market and we sit for 4 hours every week and answer questions from the public and take donations for bedding plants etc. It's great fun. Some of the gardeners rarely say a word to anyone, but when someone asks them for help they just light up.

But it doesn't have to be gardening, if you are lonely, go volunteer somewhere. It does your heart good.

President Joe Biden has chosen Adm. Lisa Franchetti to lead the Navy, a senior administration official said Friday. If confirmed, she would be the first woman to be a U.S. military service chief.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin recommended that Biden select Adm. Samuel Paparo, the current commander of the Navy’s Pacific Fleet, several U.S. officials said last month. But instead, the administration official said Biden is nominating Paparo to lead U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.

I think this guy had classes outside as much as possible, and people either wanted to get out of the house and/or they wanted to support his new business. The advantage for an Independent gym is that the if the owner see you he says hello. We were having car problems and so had to drop our son off. He got confused on the schedule and arrived late, but the guy still said "He's doing a great job" which I thought was very nice.
