Democrat "Asks" Whistleblower: Isn't Expecting an Impartial and Unbiased Investigation of Hunter Biden Just Like Slavery All Over Again?

Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whistleblower Joe Ziegler looked utterly perplexed as Democratic Pennsylvania Rep. Summer Lee became unglued about slavery during the hearing on Hunter Biden's alleged crimes.
Whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Ziegler testified before the House Oversight Committee that the Department of Justice (DOJ) pressured prosecutors not to charge Hunter Biden with felony tax charges. In earlier testimony, Ziegler testified Hunter Biden and associates took more than $3 million from Romanian businesses, along with payments from Chinese-linked companies and Ukrainian company Burisma.
Despite the lengthy allegations, Lee decided to focus her statement on slavery, even choosing to relinquish remaining time back to the chairman rather than asking Ziegler a single question about his allegations.
"Republicans have been invoking this term 'two-tiered system of justice' a lot recently so I want to talk about what the real two-tier justice system is where black and brown people are over-criminalized and over-incarcerated ... I'd like to address the way my Republican colleagues are attempting to co-opt the phrase 'two-tiered justice system' to make it sound like Trump and his cronies are somehow the victims here when the reality is that the term 'two-tiered system of justice' is meant to refer to the very real system that exists in the United States and which affects black and brown folks, not powerful former presidents and their political allies," Lee said.
The congresswoman then listed incarceration statistics for black men compared to white men along with crime statistics all while Ziegler looked around perplexed as to the purpose of the comments.

Anna Paulina Luna pointed out the obvious, but apparently necessary to say: If you want to talk about "white privilege" and the privilege of the powerful, then Hunter Biden is the living, breathing, crack-cooking embodiment of Nepo Baby White Privilege getting a pass for his myriad crimes.

So this stupid, uneducated, irrational Democrat racist should be asking "why did the White Child of Privilege get special treatment?" Not arguing that Hunter Biden should get special treatment, Because Slavery.

"They were saying Republicans are trying to make it about a two-tiered justice system of which we were robbing black and brown people of the acknowledgment that there is a two-tier justice system against black and brown people," Luna said. "So, I brought up the point during my questioning, that isn't it ironic that per their definition, Hunter Biden, a privileged white male who's being given special treatment by the Department of Justice, FBI and the IRS, of which they are going to bat for, is the exact same person we are trying to criminally investigate and they are saying that it's an issue about race."
"We had on hip-hop artists who served prison time for doing the exact same thing on their taxes as Hunter," Watters responded. "So that doesn't fly."

Jonathan Turley responds Jamie Raskin's claim that the political decision-making in the Hunter Biden case was just a "routine" and "normal" exercise of "prosecutorial discretion."

"Well I was stunned when Raskin said what you're about to hear is perfectly normal," began Turley. "And he was sitting in front of two witnesses who are incredibly credible and forthcoming, and they're saying that this was anything but normal. They had never encountered anything like this before. They were waived off witnesses. They had targets tipped off before searches occurred. They had agreement with prosecutors on multiple felonies that were scuttled. They describe how there was a knowing decision to allow crimes in 2014-2015 to expire because of statute of limitations."

By the way, the Fox "reporter" asked him, "Doesn't Jamie Raskin have a point?" So Fox is all-in on protecting Hunter Biden, too.

In the Joe and Hunter cases the only mitigating circumstance is that they politically connected. Yes, of course. This has been going on for some time. There were two Foxes. The Fox News division has always been center-left and started lurching further left in really obvious ways by 2018. The Fox Commentary/Editorial division was more mixed and net conservative and still is to a point, though after firing Carlson its center has moved dramatically.

Way too many people assumed that because some of Fox's commentators were actually conservative, that Fox News was the same. It wasn't. It never was.

I question the entire accuracy of presidential approval polls because they are ultimately not bumped up against anything solid except, maybe, a presidential election, and if there's a sharp disparity (which seems to be happening more and more frequently), it's just waved away as natural.

When I was in AIT *koff koff* years ago, one of the guys in the platoon took a new mop head, put it up on his melon to simulate long dreadlocks, donned sunglasses and used a big wad of toilet paper to simulate a giant blunt, and began walking around the barracks bay talking in a really bad Jamaican accent.

Hilarious. Especially when the drill sergeant came in and locked us all up at parade rest before he could ditch everything. The next 10 minutes of the DS walking around him staring daggers while everyone was trying not to laugh (including SFC Sanchez) was epic.

Approval ratings are used because Gallup, for one, has done it for decades now and that allows comparisons with past elections. To actually do presidential forecasting though, you need a model made up of several variables--who it going to turn out, what is the approximate partisanship of that voting electorate, where have campaigns focused on turnout, is it an open seat or an incumbency election, what events are occurring or have occurred, the economy, and so on.

Ultimately, I keep coming to the point that no media outlet, no academic institution, and no campaign has any incentive to release to the public accurate polling information.

There is nothing out there that will show them that they are wrong, especially now that so many elections themselves are suspect.

Why should I trust any numbers on any subject released to the public, especially about something as emotionally and culturally invested as politics? Is Biden at 40%? Or is he at 12%? Or is he at 75%? How do we know? Confirmation bias is the best thing we have, and that's nonsense.

When I worked at Microsoft, I briefly worked with a woman from Africa. When we first met and she said this, I politely asked her which country. She got really excited and told me that I was the first person at Microsoft to ask her this and she was happy to tell me all about her country. Leaving aside the whole massive increase in fraudulent elections, I learned early on via economics research dealing with Commie Bloc statistics, you have to triangulate sources when dealing with uncertain data. Basically, you treat measurement information in your model as having uncertain values that hover around some true value. The best circumstance is when you know the likely error in measurement and its direction, the model gets shakier if you have to assume no prior knowledge of the direction nor the range of potential measurement errors.

Stats involving election percentages as a dependent variable get a bit more difficult because you have right and left censoring (not less than zero and not more than 100) or if you use win or lose (1 or 0) as the dependent variable.

That's from the perspective of a model builder, which I get. I have a master's education in statistics, and I have some little familiarity with the ideas behind data collection required to get a good set (though my education didn't really deal with polling).

However, what incentive does CNN have to give us an accurate view of the public's perception of Biden, or Trump, or of puppies? As a consumer, why should I trust any number anyone gives me?

I do not assert that accurate polling is impossible. I assert that it is possible but that the media, academic, and campaign centers can do accurate polling, but that they do not have any incentive to provide that accurate polling to the public.

I answered this separately because once upon a time I had a multistate abortion policy research topic where I was trying to determine state variables leading to legal changes after Roe (this was nearly 20 years ago). State by state polling is very spotty and often expensive to obtain, national polling was not. So you have to establish a relationship between the state polling and the national polling on abortion and abortion policies as a proxy. While measurement would be at the nominal level--that either a positive or negative trend exists and there is some degree of correlation between the two (e.g. the state in question has at least some weighting in the national poll results). Thus, you can still get some information from biased sources and if you know the bias direction, can actually get even more info from erstwhile untrustworthy sources.

The narrative around polls is that the only accurate one, the one they get graded on, is the one done right before an election.

Before then? "A few days is forever in politics and everything can change in moments, and we're 16 months out, so who knows if we're accurate or not."

The funniest thing about poll watching is when people say that "x pollster was within y% of their final poll, so we'll apply that assumption to their poll z months out from an election." It's such a laughably dumb assumption, and it keeps happening.

There isn't an incentive by the media but a bit of incentive for the pollster because others are looking on. On a particular area of public interest, there are likely to be several media polls and some of it can be crosschecked with actual hard data on how people behave. For example the vaxx. Someone who expresses that vaxx is good on a poll but declines further boosters is an example of where you look at how vaxx is being discarded and public health is reporting very low acceptance rates for new vaxx injections.

What you are using TJM is the Who Shaves the Spanish Barber paradox--the answer is to go follow him and see via observation.

Internal campaign polls by parties and candidates are very different animals than what media polls do. A lot of the difference is that internal polls asks sequential questions such as if and then on different topics, where information is being gathered by that voter, who they like and admire in society, etc. They are very expensive and even more so if field interviews are involved to reduce response bias to phone or mail polling. Ideally, you have a representative list of voters and then use area surveys of all respondents in a particular area to determine both your list sample bias and capture add new voters to your lists.

When I lived in Colombia everyone was a bit unsure about how to refer to me, I told them to call me Gringo, because "Estadounidiense" was too long, "Norteamericano" was too indefinite and I was definitely by no means ever a Yankee.

If there's no way to tell, what incentive does any public polling firm have to even try to get it right?

How can we tell that 40% is Biden's support? All we have is other polls, which could very easily just be confirmation bias by the polling firms themselves, coalescing around an answer either knowingly or unknowingly.

If we can't trust these polls, how do we know how supportive or unsupportive of Biden, Democrats, and the leftist agenda in general actually is?

The tightening isn’t going from 55-45 to 51-49 in polls it’s going from 45/40 to 47/46 because more people start making a choice instead of saying I’m undecided.

Actual research on this question is split--some argue that almost everyone is partisan and very few are truly independent swing voters. I forget the guy's name at SUNY Stony Brook in 2016 but he predicted Trump's victory using a few variables in March of that year and he more or less was arguing that campaigns don't matter. Dunno what he predicted in 2020.

Usually any swings occur if some large nugget of information is dropped such as grab em by the pussy or GWB's drunk driving arrest relatively late in the time. Events are what can sway a couple of percent of voters one way or another.

Depends on what you are asking. If I am asking society's willingness to date a transexual, then all adults is an appropriate measure. For politics though it is an imperfect measure that mainly should be used to determine trends---essentially the idea is a probability distribution around some 'true' value at the time. You simply have wider variations in the actual number using all adults (assuming not purposefully over or underweighting geographic and demographic populations).
