Woke "Barbie" Film is a $100 Million Hate-Filled Feminist Screed About Why You Should Divorce Your Husband and Become a Lesbian

The plot of the movie is that Kens are second-class citizens in Barblieland. but then they see in the "real world" that there's a thing called "the patriarchy," where men are on top (and routinely sexually assault women), so they make Barbieland into a patriarchy.

The plot then becomes all about returning the Kens back to their rightful place, on the bottom of society.

The plot isn't about making men and women equal -- it's about fixing society so that women are on top, as they should be, and men are slaves again.

And this is the Feminist view of the ideal state of the world.

Imagine if we made a movie like this with reversed genders.

Feminists should have imagined that first, and backed away from this nasty piece of work.

But feminists are like little children, seeing no problem with demanding one set of special rules for them, and a different, hateful rule for everyone else.

They claim a desire to be "equal," and claim they are in fact equal to men, but all the while continue making the demands that seven-year-old girls make of Daddy. "Let me win the game, Daddy, but hide from me the fact that you're letting me win. Do everything for me, Daddy, while pretending that I'm somehow 'earning' the rent you're paying for me into my thirties."

It's one thing to demand that from your actual daddy-- but to demand it from all the men in the world, who have absolutely no relationship with you...?

The Daily Mail:

[M]y main objection is that Barbie is not really a film about Barbie at all. It's one hour and 54 minutes of extended misandry, dressed up with a few fun dance routines and one or two (granted fairly decent) jokes.

It's a deeply anti-man movie, an extension of all that TikTok feminism that paints any form of masculinity -- other than the most anodyne -- as toxic and predatory, and frames women's liberation not as a movement based on achieving equality between the sexes but as a cultural revenge vehicle designed to write men out of the story altogether.

Every male character is either an idiot, a bigot or a sad, rather pathetic loser. If the roles were reversed, and a male director made a film about how all women were hysterical, neurotic, gold-digging witches, it would be denounced -- quite rightly -- as deeply offensive and sexist.

In a nutshell, Barbie and Ken set off on an adventure to the real world to discover the source of Barbie's sudden and uncharacteristic anxiety. Barbie gets a nasty shock -- she's not as universally popular as she imagined. Ken, on the other hand, has a tremendous time, plugging into the macho culture of LA and discovering that there is such a thing called the 'patriarchy'.

He then turns into a 'real man' (again, sketched in the most one‑dimensional of cliches), goes back to Barbie Land, organises the equivalent of an incel uprising (quite literally, given Ken's lack of tackle) -- and brainwashes all the Barbies into becoming his willing slaves. Strong Andrew Tate vibes, put it that way.

Queen Barbie, aka Margot Robbie, must then mobilise a counter-revolution, which she does with the help of her human friends -- mother and daughter duo Gloria and Sasha. Using their Barbie wiles, they put the Kens back in their boxes. The film ends with her checking into a gynaecology clinic, presumably so she can become a 'real' woman.

Christian Toto:

Don't let "Barbie's" dreamy, Day-Glo visuals fool you.

The film runs on hate, not affection.

"Barbie," inspired by the Mattel toy dating back to 1959, loathes men to a degree that would make a Women's Studies major blush. It hates the Barbie toy itself, dubbing it "fascist" and worse throughout the film.

"Barbie" also hates women with sweet memories of the doll. Just know you supported the "Patriarchy" all those years ago. And maybe even now.

Kyle Smith:

As bubbly as the film appears, its script is like a grumpier-than-average women's studies seminar. At one point, nearing the climax, "Barbie" stops cold so a Mattel doll designer (America Ferrera) with depressive inclinations can deliver a long monologue on how miserable it is to be female. For instance, she feels pressured to have lots of money but also pressured to not appear to seek it. Hearing characters issue denunciations such as "You fascist!" while Barbie muses that the fate of women is "Either you're brainwashed or you're weird and ugly--there is no in-between" is like going to the cotton-candy factory to find it producing lead pipes. Don't we go to a movie like "Barbie" to escape the harrumphing tone of the most aggrieved Twitter users?

Those who have no particular reason to think women are powerless in American society will be put off by the script's many broadsides. "Women hate women and men hate women. It's the one thing we can all agree on," we are told by an adolescent (Ariana Greenblatt) presented as attuned to the damage Barbie dolls supposedly do to girls' psyches. Is misogyny actually universally shared, though? Ms. Gerwig and Mr. Baumbach try to sell the audience on a tired "Mad Men" conception of reality where men in suits beckon and timid women simply do whatever they're told.

Rolling Stone says it's a feminist screed -- and loves it!

'Barbie' May Be the Most Subversive Blockbuster of the 21st Century

It’s a long commercial for a legacy corporate brand and a pretty-in-pink "f-ck you" to the patriarchy. It is Barbie -- hear it roar

The film made $155 million in its opening weekend, a huge take. But the corporation pushing this hateful misandry on us hid the movie from audiences, and sold it as a feel-good silly movie "for everyone."

Now that people are seeing it and the word is out that this is one of the most hateful movies made since The Birth of a Nation, its box office might fall.

Then again, it might not. Bitter cat ladies gotta do something on a weekend night.

Three videos below. First, Ryan Long just says, "Of course it sucks. What did you think it would do?"

Then Critical Drinker and Andre from Midnight's Edge weigh in. Andre says it is a movie made to break couples up, filling women with anger at men (and frankly, filling men with anger too, because we are Officially Sick of This Shit.)

Critical Drinker calls it an actual "evil" piece of propaganda, designed to sow hatred.

I think there's a movie where a woman was a co-director that had higher box office, or something.

The movie was such a mess I couldn't tell what the heck it was about. In the end, I thought it was Barbie-meets-The Matrix because she was trying to figure out whether to become human, which meant leaving the Edenic Barbie Land and take on human problems (get flesh-pilled?).

The jokes were misplaced and unfunny, the conflicts hard to pick out, dance sequences and pink fog buried everything, just a confused mess that couldn't figure out what it wanted to be.

I predict it will go off a cliff next weekend.

73 Tiedrich: fragile dipshits are melting down because there's Barbie movie. holy shit, white conservative men sure are a whiny bunch of fragile little dipshits. the world is changing around them and they’re fucking terrified.

for centuries, white conservative men have had society’s pie entirely to themselves, and now they’re being asked to share some of the pie, and they’re having a Big Crybaby Sad about it.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie arrived in theaters this week and white conservative men everywhere are doing what white conservative men do best: melting straight the fuck down about it.

Over 40 years ago, I read a column in one of those rarities, a real liberal paper, where the columnist said that white men had been getting affirmative action in American since 1776; they were just mad that now everyone else wanted it, too.

They are already losing their minds over Snow White, and it's barely started. These are snowflakes.

I thought there was a chance it'd be like the LEGO movie where the quirkiness and humor came from the fact that everything that happens onscreen is actually taking place inside the imagination of of a kid playing with the toys. Ken being an idiot who doesn't have any personality except for his relationship with Barbie didn't have to be a feminist empowerment narrative, it could have just been because Barbie and Ken are girls toys. Ken literally is just an accessory for Barbie.

He described it as depopulation propaganda, but also commented on how technically excellent the movie is and how good it looks and how well the set design works, etc. He compared the makers of this movie to Leni Riefenstahl since she, too, made hateful propaganda in a very desirable and popular package.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at July 24, 2023 04:27 PM (B2vkr)

97 Mexican Iron Man compared Barbie to The Force Awakens. He says there was pent-up demand among middle aged women for a nostalgia ride focused on the doll they recall fondly and that's what accounts for this weekend's box office blow-out. He thinks once its audience is exposed to the underlying agenda and word gets out, the entire brand will be tainted and most of the audience won't return, just as the pre-programmed Star Wars fans dropped the franchise like a hot rock once they got a load of Disney's take on it.

This may not bode well for Mattel, which intends to build an entire franchise on movies about the plastic dolls.

We'll have to wait and see, but if there's a big fall-off in its second weekend box office sales this may support the proposition the damage done to the Barbie brand in the long run may end up outweighing the short-term cash grab for Mattel.

113 Barbie has had a gangbusters opening weekend. There are two things to look at, as far as I can figure out:
1. Does word-of-mouth kill it on subsequent weekends? (I doubt it - I suspect this is going to make Mattel a *lot* of money)
2. Do Barbie sales decline because mothers or fathers who took the kids to this movie absolutely refuse to buy the product? (I don't know, but I doubt it - it will take 9-12 months to find out).

If Barbie sales *do* decline, it will be a nightmare for Mattel since it is the lion's share of their revenue. But I kind of doubt it.

"Get woke, go broke" is not a universal, and Barbie is aimed directly at the most woke-tolerant (or even woke-preferential) population.

147 And women are crying because they can't find men to date. Because men are tired of giving up half their shit to no fault divorce.

Women want to marry/date men making more then them. Ideally a lot more.

Well, as women earn more and more money that gets harder doesn't it?

But society has an answer. De facto polygamy. The same large number of women chase the a small number of men. The men in turn act "entitled" because they literally have women throwing themselves at them. The women in their turn then decide ALL men are like that.

Note - society's answer to this problem is one of the worst it could have stumbled upon.

Neither of those movies were very good, in my opinion. I think "First Contact" is the best of the TNG-era movies.

"Enterprise" started out very strong. The look, the era, the stories, the political aspects, etc. - they did good work. The first season and a half or two seasons were really quite good and I liked it a lot.

Then it fell off a cliff pretty quickly with the Temporal Cold War and related storylines.

I absolutely disagree that womyn know what they are and why they are that. They are clueless about what constitutes something desireable. I no more want to be ruler of the world than I want to be a weightlifter, but I have no problem saying I should get paid the same as men in my profession.

Barbie was a feminist icon. She was the woman with ambition who knew how to have fun and do big, powerful, typically boy things like doctoring or lawyering or politicking.

231 Surprisingly, Ethan Van Sciver has been pretty positive about Barbie, to the surprise of his Twitter followers.

BARBIE is definitely a feminist movie with femme themes, but you’re going to expect that in a movie about Barbie. It’s good, though. Very layered and nuanced. Thoughtful.

Barbie's world exists in the imagination of little girls. Adult women remember being little girls and miss the simplicity of their Barbie Dream Houses. The real world is hard and it sucks for adult women in many ways. And yet, Barbie chooses to become a real woman anyhow.

The movie isn't "aimed at young girls" and I must have said a thousand times that it's aimed at women who grew up with Barbie. The movie is rated PG-13.

It doesn't "hate men" any more than GamerGate hates women. There are female spaces and male spaces, and this movie defends that idea. WHICH IS WHAT WE ALSO BELIEVE.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at July 24, 2023 04:35 PM (B2vkr)

I'm still really disappointed that no studio actually understands the artistic value of a cinematic universe. The real benefit of a cinematic universe is that it saves you worldbuilding time when you try to tell your story. What was the best Star Wars movie that Disney did? Rogue 1. Because it was a WWII movie set in the Star Wars universe. Just like when you want to tell a war story, you don't need to explain to the audience why the Germans are the bad guys, a movie set in the Star Wars universe doesn't need to explain why the Empire are the bad guys.

But Disney isn't interested in throwing money at Tarantino and saying "hey, make Django Unchained in the Star Wars universe" or the Cohen Brothers and saying "Do No Country for Old Men in Marvel" despite those kinds of movies being vastly more interesting to 90% of the audience than just the same action movie repackaged repeatedly.

That's the way it's supposed to be because they are civilization, they birth the next generation.

The reason so many are so unhappy and losing their minds is, easy mode gets shut off at 35.

But they didn't want that before when they could have it and now these women don't have either.
And on normal mode, life is real f'ing hard.
Especially since they compare themselves to men earning 6-7 figures on expert mode.
So they are really angry.

Two things:
1. It is PG-13. Most people probably didn't read the rating. It's marketed at general audiences and looks like it will be good for kids from the marketing. It has the most disingenuous marketing ever.
2. Bullshit. Yeah, Barbie is a "female space." For sure. But this implication is that any "female space" is man-hating by definition.

But besides that, I no longer accept the premise of his second point there. There are no male spaces anymore. They have been systematically destroyed as hateful and bigoted. If that's the case, then there must be no women's spaces, either. One standard.

One of the interesting things you learn from watching shows like Brian Atlas's Whatever is just how many young women believe the life of a CEO or a top flight pro-athlete is just a normal experience for a man.

Since 6-7 figures is "normal" it must be sexism that a 25 year old with no marketable skills and a questionable work ethic isn't earning the same right?

How is this, in any way, different from what Leftists always do? Look at BLM. Look at CHAZ. Look at Just Stop Oil. They all require a pre-fab civilization -- forged through centuries of hard-fought, thoughtful, brave, inventive, beautiful conflict resolution and understanding of human nature -- in order to heap their infantile, self-serving demands on a society. And they depend upon the values of those societies to allow them space to throw their temper tantrums.

Imagine if the latest idiots who cement their hands to airport taxiways or fling poo in art museums tried doing that in a society of their own making. It'd be like telling that Humungus fella from the Road Warrior to stop using oil. It would go poorly for them. But not in Judeo-Christian civil society -- men what's left of it. We don't just run these doofuses over. We stop. At worst, we pull them to the roadside by their hair.

Would that the Left could live by their own rules for a while. All of them.

It was positively disturbing to watch that bit on the reviewer's clip. Since when do girls smash their baby dolls? Like, never. Women tend to emotionally invest, meaning once a dolly is your "baby," you aren't ever going to part with it. Who told those girls who acted the scene that this was a good idea? The funny thing is the men women bitch about are those 1% of the 1% who are psychopaths that want to make us eat bugs and live in pods

A tiny minority of hyper successful men does not represent the overwhelming majority of men who do the lion's share of blue collar jobs, dangerous jobs, jobs requiring physical activity outside in all weather.

Men are more likely to die in war, go to prison, commit suicide, become homeless

It is patently unfair to classify our society as a patriarchy because of these facts

474 1) I played with Barbies as a kid. My brother gave me a Malibu Barbie (Barbie with a tan) that my parent's wouldn't give me (since I had a perfectly good pale Barbie). Don't know why I loved that doll so much but it got my brother in my good graces for YEARS. My friends and I had the same mansions and campers and we'd all set up our stuff in the yard and play.

2) My girls got some Barbie stuff (all the accessories are so irresistible) but I don't think they ever really played with them.

3) My Barbie dated GI Joe as well. :-)
I remember having them hug each other and putting them in the bunk in the ski lodge - this was well before I had ANY idea what sex actually involved.

4) The animated Barbie movies were sweet and cute and not feminist crap at all. My girls really liked them.

508 So didn't the Kens just liberate themselves from oppression? I thought that was a good thing? Look, once the Kens have achieved equity they'll take the boot of the Barbies necks. They actually promised to do this, so why all the drama? It's almost as if oppression is fine as long as it's only against straight White males.

510 Wife dragged me to it this weekend (she's a girly girl who loved Barbie as a kid) and we were both shocked at how awful it was.

I'm actually curious as to how much of a hit it takes as word-of-mouth gets around. And I'm not just talking about among conservatives -- thing is, it's emphatically not a movie for kids, even though none of the marketing indicates that. Even parents inclined to agree with the film's politics might be ticked about the bait-and-switch marketing.

Imagine, for example, if "Sound of Freedom" had been pitched to conservatives as a light, fun adventure movie -- "it's the non-woke alternative to the new 'Indiana Jones!'" And so all the conservatives brought their kids to the movie only to discover it's a dark, gritty thriller about child sex trafficking.

Same deal here -- if the Barbie screening I went to is any indication, I'm betting more than a few liberal parents took their little girls to see it only to face a lot of awkward questions afterward. A lot of the giggly little girls at the screening I was at seemed shell-shocked when they were leaving the theater.

Posted by: Ex-liberal at July 24, 2023 06:17 PM (XdH1u)

511 My takeaway is that Barbie and Ken dolls living in a dollhouse is too complicated a model of relations between men and women for today's liberals to handle. They can't deal with give-and-take, with cooperation, with win-win or negotiations. All they know is a zero-sum game where there's always an oppressor and either the man loses or the woman does.

Posted by: Socratease at July 24, 2023 06:56 PM (oqnjT)

512 Meanwhile, Rottentomatoes continues becoming more and more of a pathetic POS. We all know that the #woke world of movie critics would - OF COURSE - love it. But after the terrible subversives ran down such shitty movies as Last Jedi, they've now created more #woke idiots - "verified" audience members. Is there anything worse than a #woke movie critic ? YES - A #woke wannabe movie critic. But, for now you can still sort the audience score between "verified" (AKA #woke idiots) and ALL audience. The displayed audience score is actually the vEriFiEd audience score. It matches the #woke critic score at 90%. BUT... if you switch to "all audience", the score drops to 73%. Which means that the NON-verified (AKA not #woke wannabe critics) score is lower still.

The only unanswered question is, how many "verified" audience members are actually getting kickbacks from movie studios to pimp their garbage ?

Posted by: uncouth jay marks at July 24, 2023 08:44 PM (8iAeH)

516 I, pathologically shy, was destroyed by feminism. I was simultaneous taught that sex with a woman was far better than masturbation, (it is not for 95% of women, and you do not meet the requirements for that 5%(no man does).) and that having babies was a burden.

So a younger women brought her new baby into work to show the other women. It was right next to my office so I went too. A middle aged women was there and became so flushed on seeing the newborn, I think she had an orgasm.

So long after it mattered to me, I learned that woman get great sexual pleasure from breast feeding a new baby. The baby cries in the middle of the night, mom feeds the baby, goes back to bed with a smile on her face and quickly falls asleep. The same smile a man feels when he naps after sex.

The only reason to marry a woman is because you want to make babies with her. And the only reason for a woman to marry a man is for the pleasure of breast feeding the baby you made with her. Don't fight evolution. That is what your DNA demands of you.

Marriage is for making babies and raising them well so you will have wonderful grandchildren.
