Ignoring the Recent Supreme Court Ruling That He Cannot Forgive Federal Student Debt Without Congressional Authorization, Biden Moves to Cancel $39 Billion in Debt Anyway

The man who unleashed the worst inflation in history and who has caused budget deficits to soar to impossible levels again claims he can spend $39 billion of taxpayer money without any actual law authorizing it.

Is the nation just floating on piles of cash that we're desperate to give away, rather than pay the storage costs for? Apparently not! The government is borrowing five billion per day.

Feds borrowing over $5 billion per day as programs face insolvency
The U.S. Congressional Budget Office released a report earlier this year projecting the national debt will be nearly twice as large as the U.S. economy in 30 years.
Budget groups continue to release dire forecasts for the explosive growth of the U.S. national debt.
The U.S. Treasury reported a $1.4 trillion deficit so far nine months into fiscal year 2023.
"Three-quarters into the fiscal year and we're borrowing an astounding $5.1 billion per day," said Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. "If that isn't a sign that we need a wake-up call, maybe it should be the fact that the deficit for this fiscal year is now larger than all of last year's deficit -- and there's still three months to go.
The U.S. Congressional Budget Office released a report earlier this year projecting the national debt will be nearly twice as large as the U.S. economy in 30 years.

Biden says, "Hold my beer."

Just weeks removed from a Supreme Court ruling that declared its student loan forgiveness program unconstitutional, the Biden administration on Friday announced new relief for students that will cancel $39 billion in debt for more than 804,000 past students.
"For far too long, borrowers fell through the cracks of a broken system that failed to keep accurate track of their progress towards forgiveness," Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement. "By fixing past administrative failures, we are ensuring everyone gets the forgiveness they deserve."
Cardona said the new program is justified by adjusting payment schedules in student loan programs to recognize some qualifying payments "should have moved borrowers closer to forgiveness were not accounted for."

They're just going to keep pushing slight variations of previous initiatives, claiming each time that the Supreme Court didn't invalidate this particular attempt to spend without Congressional authorization.

If you can believe it, citizen trust in democracyis plummeting.

Only about 1 in 10 U.S. adults give high ratings to the way democracy is working in the United States or how well it represents the interests of most Americans, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
Majorities of adults say U.S. laws and policies do a poor job of representing what most Americans want on issues ranging from the economy and government spending to gun policy, immigration and abortion. The poll shows 53% say Congress is doing a bad job of upholding democratic values, compared with just 16% who say it's doing a good job.
The findings illustrate widespread political alienation as a polarized country limps out of the pandemic and into a recovery haunted by inflation and fears of a recession.

Meanwhile, Republicans look to cut one billion from the budget of the Democrat Stasi group the FBI, and also press other reforms. Such as forbidding the FBI from withholding the salaries of its whistleblowers, attempting to starve them into submission with the FBI party line.

Republicans on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies on Friday advanced legislation to reduce funding for the FBI by $1 billion.
The committee advanced the 9% budget cut in a party line vote, the Washington Examiner reported. The bureau's 2024 budget would fall from $11.3 billion in 2023 to $10.3 billion under the plan.
It would further require the FBI to conduct politically sensitive investigations under the oversight of a bipartisan group of Department of Justice staff while also forbidding the bureau from withholding the salaries of its whistleblowers.

Jonathan Turley on the FBI. He notes that Wray blames the FBI's abuse of FISA on his predecessor -- ignoring the fact that the actual people who approved the illegal wiretap requests are all still in power, and still violating the law.

It was capped because the number of people in it was harming the ability of the body to do anything. The House as the seat of deliberations was waning in the early 1830s and yielding to the house as the 200 or so were too many and the Senate was about 60 or so. Now the Senate also is too big and neither side does any debating or speaking on issues of any kind.

If anything we should cut the size down even more.

Too few because too easy to control and bribe, but more functional and tends to weed out the really crazy extremists.

We need a lottery that abolishes entire departments, dumping all the workers into the productive side of the economy. Let its function, if any, be absorbed into another one. Then go into the remainder and fire 10 percent of the people there at all levels. 10 percent of janitors, paper shufflers, admin types... if your department cant' explain its job to a jury of regular people in 10 sentences, it is abolished and you are fired. From what I gather, he is redefining the terms in this way:
If you pay off the loan for 20 years and still have a balance, it is supposed to be forgiven (which is an insane provision, but it is what is is.)

If you do not pay it off, no forgiveness. Missed payments, etc. mean the 20 year term is extended.

Biden is giving these people credit for partial and attempted payments. That means --"Hey, just stop paying and in 20 years it will be dropped."

That means $39B is a lowball, and in reality he just gave away the whole treasury.

But I have to concede that if I had a student loan, I would go out of my way to never pay a penny of it off. That's a big reason why so many have loans ope, because there's always hope. So many of these could have easily been paid off by these people.

If my kids go to college, even though I can pay the tuition, I plan to take out loans and play games.

The damage though has already been done. I would say the dollar is worth about 40% less pre versus post-Covid. Imagine if everyone's 401k got cut in half and stayed there and that's pretty close to what happened in terms of our purchasing power because of all the bullshit stimulus.

We only have the mortgage left and then we will be debt free. We have been making extra payments on it since I turned 62 and got my social security.

We didn't need the money but our plan is to turn our 30 year mortgage into a 12 year mortgage instead of spending my SS $$$ on "stuff". We have a little over 4 years left.

If you look pre-Civil War, sure, speeches did a lot and people like Calhoun, Henry Clay, Webster, Sumner were very influential in mobilizing public thought about the big issues debated in Congress. They were rock stars.

Lincoln Douglas Debates put hours of discussion by both sides of the question out in public and were listened to by many and read by even more. Douglas' relenting to his constituents aversion on slavery extension to win election in 1858 broke his support in the Deep South and assured that a Republican would win in 1860. Lincoln's speeches there, and in later tours around the country put him in the mix for being that president.

That's our problem...pay off the mortgage early and then what do we do with that money. Gold and silver are out. The spot mark up on precious metals are through the roof and that ship has sailed. We are locked out of all of the popular retirement accounts because we are over 65 and retired. Putting money in a savings account at this time is a joke as you lose 5-8% of your $$$ value every year compounded year over year.

Real estate around us has hit the stratosphere as everyone with big money from the Dallas/Fort Worth area is buying up everything around us because we have two new lakes coming in. There is literally nothing of value we can invest our money in at this point*.

Meanwhile revenue is coming in above projections and within historical norms which rise and fall proportionately to GDP. Meanwhile entitlement programs are rising twice as fast as revenue. You can't raise taxes to solve this issue. You have a spending problem that's only going to be solved by lowering debt. Period.

Used to be $1.99 for the first one. Then slowly started going up to $2.29 then $2.59. Recently it was increased again to $3.09. That’s 50% in maybe 2 years and about 20% in less than a year.

But yeah man inflation is like totally under control.

The rejection rate for borrowers who submitted their paperwork after a decade-plus of teaching the the ghetto, etc, was hovering around 99%. It's absolutely disgusting. And also intentional, as they've "broken" educational lending post-2009 to justify further interventions and to create a wedge issue. Note they didn't seek to fix this first - they WANT you to complain about it.
