Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Bud Light Now Falls Out of the Top Ten In Beer Sales; Other Tranheuser-Busch Brands Also DecliningWow. A few weeks ago Bud Light fell from #1 to #2, losing out to Modelo; now it falls out of the top ten. Bud Light this year lost its position as America's top selling beer. It was the second-best-selling beer in the four weeks leading up to June 3, making up 7.3 percent of U.S. retail-store beer purchases. Bud Light is now no longer one of America's 10 most popular beers. And people are now boycotting other Tranheuser-Busch brands. At Instapundit, Steven Green says they should just apologize. I don't know if I want a forced apology, which would of course be insincere. And anyway, forced apologies are kind of creepy. I think I want more: For Anheuser-Busch to declare that men are men, and women are women. Is that too much? I don't think so. I don't want every company to weigh in on contentious social issues. But I would like the precedent set that if a corporation weighs in on a culture war issue, they are now Fair Game to be mau-maued by the right into being forced to weigh in on our side of the culture war issue. Which of course is absolutely hateful to our leftwing corporate "friends." Let us make an object lesson out of Tranheuser-Busch, so that other corporations understand: Either avoid weighing in on political issues altogether, or we will fucking force you to propagandize for the social and cultural right. Which we know you hate. And which will cost you your precious ESG ratings. You're advertising your "corporate values"? Well then I insist that your "corporate values" match my conservative values. How you like them apples? Maybe you better just stay out of it altogether, huh? We're making it clear now, and need to make it clearer: No longer is corporate pandering to the fascist left a cost-free move. We will make you pay dearly for joining the enemies of truth, reason, and civilization itself. 70 They need to take it a step beyond apology. They need to come right out and say...."We're out of politics. From this day forward, we make beer. Full stop. Let out competitors wrangle with the issues of the day. We make beer."No, the time to be apolitical was BEFORE they chose to be political. I'm afraid I must insist that NOW that they've told us they're willing to act as political propagandists, they must propagandize for my politics. Companies that stay out of politics can continue to stay out. But Tranheuser-Busch must now come out as Gonzo Conservative Wingnuts. I want them to make Matt Walsh a Brand Ambassador. I want them to run commercials with Ben Shapiro with the slogan, BEER DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS. Until I see Matt Walsh's face on a can of Bud Light, the boycott goes on. And the kid actors are perfect for their roles. And it's a story that hangs on 2 dads and 2 kids, not telling a story too big or too unbelievable - just one that feels real and authentic (and awful). To be better, I wish the director had cut 10-15 minutes and picked up his scene pace (lots of directors don't let scenes breathe - this director wanted scenes to linger, and they do linger too long). Well right, but at thr end of the day, it’s all watered down crap beverages with a shitload of advertising. Is there any appreciable difference between Busch or Bud or Michelob or Schaefer’s “Light” beer? How much of the advertising costs are rolled into the price? I assume superbowl ads and stables of Clydesdales don’t come cheap. Somebody could make bank reintroduced “Beer” on the can. No advertising, no chicks with big hooters, no jets flying over and weepy commercials about rugged hairdressers w/ rechargeable pick up trucks. Just sell fucking beer, good beer, concentrate on core competencies. There are 500 year old breweries in Europe, I could get a case delivered for 8 bucks. They make the best beer in the world, arguably, and they think beer drinkers are neanderthals. They mostly drink wine. Posted by: Common Tater at July 11, 2023 12:37 PM (j9VvT) 166

Making a bad movie (or TV show) woke is now a marketing strategy. If you have a shitty movie like 'Lightyear' or an unapologetic abortion like "Velma," you highlight the offensive wokeness to produce a response. Then, you go on social media and complain about "white supremacists" attacking your art in hopes of rallying the left to buy tickets/subscriptions. And even if your show isn't woke, just really, really bad, you hype it by calling people who don't like it racists. Boycotting Bud etc. is virtually cost-free. Posted by: bear with asymmetrical balls - an election is simply a festival for the majority at July 11, 2023 12:56 PM (ppBhU) Too late. DeSantis signed the "Don't Say Gay" bill. The left within Disney, in particular Pixar, freaked out. To assuage them, Disney allowed the kiss to go back in, and they pushed the story. It was explicitly political in nature. Everything about it. And then Lightyear bombed and is now being held up as one of modern Disney's great failings. "lite beer" or "low calorie beer" just means they took some of the alcohol out of it. So now you're just drinking piss water without even any benefits, no point. I would wager that people drinking low calorie beer consume more calories because it takes double the beer to feel a buzz.

and (2) right from a long stay in a full ice chest, Piels Real Draft in Bigmouth 8 oz bottles. They were dark brown glass and looked like a beer keg. In my experience accounting is a minor and frankly menial part of the equation. All corporations are focused on the financial markets for a variety of reasons. And yes, it is an extremely complex equations when you are dealing in millions and billions of dollars. Posted by: JackStraw at July 11, 2023 01:13 PM (ZLI7S) Even very major corporations don't have many sources of financing on rotation. It's literally an every few years thing and usually done with existing relationships. You negotiate a line of capital(which covers ordinary scale investing) that gets reviewed every so often for ordinary projects. You refinance your bonds a year or so before they come due. Nothing requires regular labor here. The main reason a CEO focuses on the stock market is his compensation. A corporate finance job is an accounting job, which is not the same as bookkeeping mind you. Posted by: Red Turban Someguy - The Republic is already dead! at July 11, 2023 01:18 PM (eYoxG) 497

If Big Finance demands that your company's ESG score must meet a certain threshold before your company receives a dime for loans, bond financing, a line of credit, etc. then the proper recourse is to slap the financial company with a RICO suit. Yeah that was a very strange move, in a recession, with high inflation. That is not how to handle pricing, its the opposite of how any business should run. But now they have started to put out lots of promos and price breaks, which does not indicate a healthy, strong company with lots of customers. These days, yes. I always thought she was a bit too cutesy. Then I saw her in Joe vs the Volcano. Horrible movie, but that was peak meg ryan.
I really like that movie, but yeah she was amazing. Not just super adorable but for once they gave her a role to dig her teeth into and show some talent. Three roles in the same movie, each with a distinctly different personality. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at July 11, 2023 01:37 PM (0hOvj) 639
I concur with Lamont the Big Dummy's suggestion.

Posted by: Maj. Healey at July 11, 2023 01:35 PM (/MvYl) Truly. My bet is he does get replaced, but it will be more of the same, just a different name. The left, Blackrock, etc have a chokehold and it’s going to take a few large corps to stand up together and say no mas. They need true marketing gurus to message a return to roots and exit stage left op from the political arena, and they need to lock their DEI crew in a closet. Until that happens, and until no one blinks when the Great Oppressed cries the blues, we are stuck. Posted by: Piper at July 11, 2023 01:39 PM (ZdaMQ) Posted by: rickb223 at July 11, 2023 01:40 PM (P63V5) 646
If they were truly concerned about selling beer and didn't think their finances would be turned off, then the prudent move would be to put out the message "we're sorry. men are men, women are women." Any protests or boycotts against this messaging would be seemingly insignificant compared to the damage the current boycott has inflicted upon them (because those on the left that would engage in such a boycott don't buy or drink beer).
However, they won't do this because they know the powers that be would inflict even quicker and more serious damage upon them if they dared to not toe the DIE line. Posted by: rendered at July 11, 2023 01:42 PM (BudYP) 647
At this point, shouldn't we just find a list showing ESG ratings, so we can boycott the top ESG rated entities?

My weirdo opinion (since I don't drink beer) but I felt a little sorry for the lady who had the idea of getting Dylan to promote BL. The saying goes, "It's not what you know, it's what you know that isn't so."
It's not that she seemed to necessarily want to really push the woke thing, it's that she was in such a bubble that her view of the world, "what she knew was true", about people and marketing and markets and what-all was completely wrong. Maybe that's her fault in the end, but the left "culture" warriors push such an amazingly fantastical alternate reality and absolutely every single person surrounding you agrees that it's 100% ground-accurate, being the single person it all falls out on is really just bad luck. All the other inhabitants of the fantasy reality go on as if your life never self-destructed. People BELIEVE there's something wrong with using attractive people to sell product because there's something WRONG with human awareness and appreciation of criteria for mate selection. And had she slipped Dylan in there between rock climbers, soldiers and cowgirls no one would have cared. Posted by: Synova at July 11, 2023 01:47 PM (BD/yx) 650
I think you could make a profit selling cold, carbonated horse p!ss if you could convince enough dummies that it is cool and hip to drink it. I'm surprised an ad agency hasn't convinced horse ranchers to give it a go. Production cost would be very low, resulting in huge profits!
Posted by: Gref at July 11, 2023 01:18 PM (AMIL/) Kvass. It is made from fermented rye bread, and sometimes from sparged rye. Then carbonate it cold Then add Taurine and Caffeineand some natural bittering agent so it tastes like Irn Bru, and give it a trendy name and label and make it the next alcoholic energy drink. I actually think your opinion is valid - she was just repeating the same bullshit she was taught to believe. And, to be fair, companies got away with this BS corporate double speak for YEARs. But Disney started changing things - family friendly suddenly meant gay friendly, VERY gay friendly. Then came bud light. She bumbled into the wrong campaign at exactly the wrong time. My conditions for ever picking up a bud light again:
1. Resignations of all members of Alissa H’s chain of command, up to and including the CEO. No severance. 2. A sincere apology delivered by Whitworth’s replacement. 3. A six month moratorium on all marketing activities by Anheuser-Busch. Posted by: Johnny Anditmightbeasin at July 11, 2023 04:43 PM (r8qcq) 659
Nope, no apology from Bud will suffice. They sorta, kinda half tried that. But they didn't really apologize for the root of the problem.
So now, the CEO has to go and his replacement has to do a full, public accounting of the affair, how it happened, who was involved and state categorically that all those people are fired and they fully understand not to pull such bullshit again. They know who their audience is and they'll lean into it smartly, not like an oafish brute. And that anyone who comes along trying to peddle their trans alphabet mafia bullshit again, ALSO gets fired immediately. Posted by: deadrody at July 11, 2023 05:41 PM (kYmXc) 660

"I think I want more: For Anheuser-Busch to declare that men are men, and women are women."
That would be part of the most insincere pr firm written apologies ever. They want me back? Dedicate 20% of profits to fighting the sexualization of children by all organizations especially schools. Dedicate $500 million to fund a group of the most vicious lawyers ever, to sue on behalf of sexually mutilated children. Sue any doctor, any pharmaceutical company, any pharmacy, any insurance company, any medical group, EVERYBODY! involved for each mutilated child to the tune of $100 million from each of them for each mutilated child. I want this country to have a fast guaranteed path to unimaginable riches. Let kids start taking that path and then get on the lawsuit gravy train and succeed while things are still reversible. Spit the puberty blockers into the toilet and still collect. That is what it will take for me to buy another Budweiser. Posted by: FlimFlamed at July 11, 2023 07:52 PM (Un88n) 662
