Right-Wing Extremist GAINZZZ

For some reason -- probably to mine those hate-clicks -- MSNBC decided to slap a new title on this article from March, 2022, and republish it, proclaiming that anyone interested in improving his or her physical fitness was most likely a political far-right extremist.

It appears the far right has taken advantage of pandemic at-home fitness trends to expand its decade-plus radicalization of physical mixed martial arts (MMA) and combat sports spaces.

Initially lured with health tips and strategies for positive physical changes, new recruits are later invited to closed chat groups where far-right content is shared.

Earlier this month, researchers reported that a network of online "fascist fitness" chat groups on the encrypted platform Telegram are recruiting and radicalizing young men with neo-Nazi and white supremacist extremist ideologies. Initially lured with health tips and strategies for positive physical changes, new recruits are later invited to b>closed chat groups where far-right content is shared.

Physical fitness has always been central to the far right. In "Mein Kampf," Hitler fixated on boxing and jujitsu, believing they could help him create an army of millions whose aggressive spirit and impeccably trained bodies, combined with "fanatical love of the fatherland," would do more for the German nation than any "mediocre" tactical weapons training.

In more modern times, far-right groups have launched mixed martial arts and boxing gyms in Ukraine, Canada and France, among other places, focused on training far-right nationalists in violent hand-to-hand combat and street-fighting techniques.

Has this pyrsyn noticed that the leftwing trans terrorist group antifa is a permanent professional Democrat-Party-supported street fighting unit, or nah?

It's caught the attention of intelligence authorities, especially in Europe, where various reports have noted the role of combat sports and MMA in radicalizing and promoting far-right violence. A series of collaborative efforts between governments, national sports associations, and local gyms in places such as Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom have introduced intervention and prevention programs.

The intersection of extremism and fitness leans into a shared obsession with the male body, training, masculinity, testosterone, strength and competition.

They just hate men, and will not rest until men are forced by the state to take cross-gender hormones to medically reduce their "toxic masculinity."

MSNBC is going viral for warning about "the far right's obsession with fitness" -- with Elon Musk and Joe Rogan among those mocking the left-wing network's comparison of the health craze to the Nazis.

MSNBC's tweet Monday re-shared a year-old op-ed by extremism expert Cynthia Miller-Idriss claiming that the "far right has taken advantage of pandemic at-home fitness trends."

In it, she even compared some fitness influencers to how Adolf Hitler "fixated on boxing and jujitsu" to garner followers.

MSNBC's tweet soon got more than 34 million views -- and a flurry of mockery.

"Being healthy is 'far right.' Holy f--k," tweeted podcaster and UFC commentator Joe Rogan, a self-styled liberal and lifetime fitness fanatic.

Twitter boss Musk -- who recently started training martial arts again to take on Facebook rival Mark Zuckerberg -- replied to Rogan's message by saying that "parody & reality are becoming indistinguishable."

"MSNBC thinks you're a [N]azi if you work out lmaooo," tweeted Musk, who has previously described himself as a liberal only now labeled far-right because "woke progressives" are pushing the left to extremes.

Others also joked that they were "doing white supremacy" with planned workouts.

"I was doing pushups and suddenly a swastika tattoo appeared on my chest. Weirdest thing," one person replied to Musk. "I'm prone on the couch eating potato chips, hoping it will go away."

Someone else asked: "If I skip leg day does that make me a Democrat?"

It was not immediately clear why MSNBC decided to again share the op-ed that was first published in March 2022.

In it, Miller-Idriss said that "neo-Nazi and white supremacist" extremists were targeting fitness fanatics by luring them "with health tips and strategies for positive physical changes."

Fitness and self-defense are exclusively the province of right-wing extremists, huh?

I linked that the last time MSNBC published this "story." If they can repeat themselves, so can I.


Under the sinister left's determination to destroy everything that is good, the whole Army has gotten fat.


It's not exactly clear why America's military personnel are getting fatter. Could be that 15 years of war have weakened the focus on fitness. Could be that millennials, with their penchant for sedentary activities like playing video games and killing time on social media, aren't always up to the rigors of military life. Could be all the burgers, fries, cakes and pies served in chow halls around the world.

And maybe, too, the military is simply reflecting the nation's broader population, whose poor eating habits are fueling an alarming rise obesity rates.

This much is clear, though: Today's military is fatter than ever.

For the first time in years, the Pentagon has disclosed data indicating the number of troops its deems overweight, raising big questions about the health, fitness and readiness of today's force.

About 7.8 percent of the military -- roughly one in every 13 troops -- is clinically overweight, defined by a body mass-index greater than 25. This rate has crept upward since 2001, when it was just 1.6 percent, or one in 60, according to Defense Department data obtained by Military Times. And it's highest among women, blacks, Hispanics and older service members.

It might have something to do with the military making itself into a gender-f!ck joke, reducing recruitment among fit men, and forcing them to expand their recruiting pool to those expanding their waistlines.

Meanwhile, a study says that people can make their brains more resilient to Alzheimer's and Brandon's Syndrome through resistance (weight) training, and that the brain benefits of such a program are visible within four weeks.


Experiments involving mice showed four weeks of training with weights to be sufficient to reverse behavioral and physical alterations characteristic of the disease.

Regular physical exercise, such as resistance training, can prevent Alzheimer's disease, or at least delay the appearance of symptoms, and serves as a simple and affordable therapy for Alzheimer's patients. This is the conclusion of an article published in the journal Frontiers in Neuroscience by Brazilian researchers affiliated with the Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP) and the University of Sao Paulo (USP).

To observe the neuroprotective effects of this practice, researchers in UNIFESP's Departments of Physiology and Psychobiology, and the Department of Biochemistry at USP's Institute of Chemistry (IQ-USP), conducted experiments involving transgenic mice with a mutation responsible for a buildup of beta-amyloid plaques in the brain. The protein accumulates in the central nervous system, impairs synaptic connections, and damages neurons, all of which are features of Alzheimer's disease.

Are they going to make these poor mice work out?

They are, aren't they?


During the study, which was funded by FAPESP, the mice were trained to climb a 110 cm ladder with a slope of 80° and 2 cm between rungs. Loads were attached to their tails corresponding to 75%, 90%, and 100% of their body weight. The experiment mimicked certain kinds of resistance training undertaken by humans in fitness centers.

At the end of a four-week period of training, blood samples were taken to measure plasma levels of corticosterone, the hormone in mice equivalent to cortisol in humans; rising levels in response to stress heightens the risk of developing Alzheimer's. Levels of the hormone were normal (equal to those found in the control group comprising animals without the mutation) in the exercise-trained mice, and analysis of their brain tissue showed a decrease in the formation of beta-amyloid plaques.

"This confirms that physical activity can reverse neuropathological alterations that cause clinical symptoms of the disease," said Henrique Correia Campos, first author of the article.

Important for me to remember: Lifting even light weights builds muscle.

Lifting weights regularly builds strength and muscle -- and it doesn't matter if those weights are heavy or light.

It's the act itself, and being consistent, that pays off, according to a new study.


All forms of resistance training are beneficial, including body-weight exercises such as planks, lunges and push-ups, according to kinesiologists at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, who looked at weight, frequency and consistency.

"There are a dizzying number of factors and combinations to consider when creating a weightlifting program to maximize strength and muscle growth," said kinesiology professor Stuart Phillips, who did the study with graduate students Bradley Currier and Jonathan Mcleod. "This is an age-old debate among athletes and strength and conditioning coaches: what combination leads to the best gains?"

McMaster researchers have spent the last decade pushing back on the idea that heavier is best. Their past research found significant gains from lifting lighter weights 20 to 30 times, toward the point of exhaustion.

In this review, the investigators found that lifting heavier weights was the best way to gain strength. To maximize muscle size, however, the weight was less important than repetitions.

He urged people to seek guidance if they don't know where to start and how to move forward. "It doesn't need to be complicated," Currier emphasized.

After going through all this bullshit, I can confidently say that thinking too much about the best method of exercise (or dieting) which will yield the most efficient, most optimized GAINZZZ is mostly a waste of time and also often counterproductive.

It's a waste of time because the difference between one regime and another is pretty incremental. Some might be somewhat better than others -- but all are better than not exercising.

And it's counterproductive because people worry about their exercise program being finely-tuned and perfectly optimized for them, to the extent that they never start any program. They keep thinking that if they're not doing the most optimized, most efficient program of all, then they're wasting effort and no one wants to waste effort, so why bother at all?

So people wind up not weightlifting, or otherwise exercising. because they're hung up on not being sure which of three or four competing plans will produce results 1-3% better than another.

And not only that, for beginners, none of this matters at all. Beginners can get stronger and healthier by doing literally any exercise at all. They're not people operating near peak human performance who have to constantly change and refine regimes to trick their muscles into giving them just 0.1% more output. No, they can just start doing bodyweight squats and push-ups (from the knee, if needed) and begin seeing GAINZZZ in ten days.


The researchers called the findings good news for anyone interested in gaining strength and maintaining more muscle. This helps prevent injury, maximizes mobility and optimizes metabolism.

"The biggest variable to master is compliance," Mcleod said. "Once you've got that down, then you can worry about all of the other subtle nuances, but our analysis clearly shows that many ostensibly important variables just aren't that essential for the vast majority of people."

Yeah, the best exercise plan of all is the one you'll do, period.

I've gotten so weak since I stopped weightlifting that I don't want to do any of it. It just upsets me to have such NEGATIVE GAINZZZ.

But I have to keep in mind that even lifting Soyboy Beta Cvck levels of weight will slowly produce a noncvcked Alpha Male.

So I'm weak now. That just means I can get Noob GAINZZZ again. Noob GAINZZZ are the rapid GAINZZZ that newbies experience because their fitness has so much room for improvement that minimal effort will yield outsized results. No one past the "Noob" level can experience this magical state of getting measurably stronger nearly every session.

This guy lost over 600 pounds, dropping from a morbidly obese 823 pounds to a healthy 200 and change.

He must be the most right-wing extreme extremist in the world. He eats White Supremacy and he craps Dark MAGA.

20 Took a day off from working out because I had blood drawn pursuant to a physical I had on Wednesday. Before today, I'd been very, very serious about working out ever since I got covid last June (mild and annoying but debilitating). For instance, my dumbbell bench routine is 40# x 16, 4 x 50# x 13. Weights/leg/ab work 4x/week, aerobic 3x/week. Anyways, doc takes my BP and it was 96/66, pulse 54. BP just over 3 years ago was 124/84. Yay. :-> (And no meds. Well, no prescription meds. ;->) It just takes determination.

61 Started doing this workout program by Athlean-X called the 100 workout series.

Basic gist is that you do 12 ignition reps, which is the heaviest weight you can do for 12 reps before failure. This sets you up to then do 20 reps using that same weight, but you can do them in any size set you want, as long as it adds up to 20.

The ignition set gets your muscle into the fatigued state, which is when muscle growth occurs.

It's a fun workout series but I've had to really work to adjust the weights to make sure I'm pushing myself hard enough.

Good for you! Keep going. I'm on my fifth bout of Lymphoma (they will run out of options at some point). Lifting has been such a blessing to keep me sane. I lost 25-35 pounds of muscle during most of the bouts (which was huge relative to my normal 160). But I always drug myself upstairs to work out. What used to be warm-up sets were now heavy sets, but I enjoyed slowly adding back weight and reps. Personal bests are long gone at 60 yrs. old, but I focus on the accomplishment of Recent Personal Bests. And I trust in Jesus for it all. Pretty sure I've only got 1-3 years to go, but I plan to go down swinging. And I dance with my wife as often as possible. Be blessed, everyone!

I'm seeing good improvement in definition.

I'm counting calories and controlling my macros, but not super tightly. I'm eating about 20% carbs, 35% fat, and 45% protein with a focus on making sure I get around 200g of protein daily.

There's a pretty easy trick for standard bench. You measure your collarbone from point to point, then double that. That's how wide apart your index fingers should be on the bar.

This is only a rule of thumb and obviously you need to change it up to focus on different muscles.

On March 24, Putin, a well-known fitness buff, signed an executive order to bring it all back. He ordered the revival of a Stalin-era fitness program from the 1930s called "Ready for Labor and Defense" or "GTO" by its Russian initials.

The state-sponsored program, which mixed fitness, health, and patriotism, had been moribund since the collapse of the Soviet Union, when it fell victim to Russians' suddenly greater freedoms of choice.

horseshit, all of that. I got out of the Army in 2000, and our physical training was run12-15 miles a week and do push ups and sit-ups sometime in between. I would go at lunch and lift weights because that wasn't part of unit PT. Now the Army has hired real strength and conditioning coaches to overhaul soldiers fitness. The food is better now, too, even the MREs, which were barely edible back then. No, the reason for all the fat boys is that strong, athletic, patriotic young men who actually fight and win wars want no part of today's military.

If you want to splurge, go to ironmaster-dot-com and check out their dumbbell spotting stand. It lets you do flat/incline/decline/seated db presses without having to kick up and then drop the weights. It lets me go much heavier than I would otherwise and is way easier on my shoulders.

153 I maintain strength and keep size lifting heavy, I build size and sculpt lifting light. Compound exercises heavy, isolated exercises light. Switch between the two but stay on the lightweight side of things more these days to take care of joints n tendons. Also mix time under tension with volume(high reps) or slow and squeezing/flexing the hell out of the specific muscles I'm working with low reps.

Lightweights have there place and are more effective than people think. When you hear people talk about developing "mind muscle connection" this is when it should be developed and practiced, lifting light.

I stuck with PT religiously and now I’m cycling about 80 miles per week and taking longish (5 mile) walks…. Knee feels better and better. PT now has me doing agility drills and jogging in-place on my toes in preparation to resume jogging…. Probably in the next month or two I’ll be jogging a few miles at a time. I consider this to be significant GAINZZ…. Jogging/running is my first love (in the exercise domain). Some orthopedic docs forbid running after getting a bionic knee… my doc has many patients who successfully do so (see Dick Beardsley, my hero). Robotic surgery for precision placement/alignment plus better prosthetic materials technology means better results and fewer (zero) post surgical constraints…

Watched some videos by this guy Ryan Humiston and he's big on the mind muscle connection. I didn't realize how many lifts I wasn't maximizing.

One trick he mentioned: try flexing various muscles throughout your body. If you find ones you have difficulty flexing, those are the ones you need to focus on more in terms of the connection.

She also inherited his business which she knows nothing about in terms of running it, but fortunately her son who works there is a big help in that regard.

177 I got a smart watch for the health tracking features, because quantifying almost everything works for me.

The cardio pulmonary rehab I'm doing is minor compared to the "extra " work I'm putting in.

Not today mind you. Today I am resting, which is a nice way of saying I'm being a bum.

But I didn't realize how diminished my life had become due to the poor ticker that it seems like limitless energy now. So I'm walking miles with the wife and dog, going on multi-hour bike rides. It's nothing short of amazing, considering the chest wound isn't healed and the 10lb weight restrictions are still in place.

Haven't really wanted a smoke since I asked God for the strength I clearly never had, just one more sign among many that He has some plan for me or I would not be here.

Life is good.

It's about as close to having a real fitness coach working with you as you can get without hiring someone.

It doesn't critique your technique, though. So you still might need someone for that. But if you want to know how many reps of what weight and what exercise you should be doing to maximize your GAINZZ, it looks very intriguing.

This is misleading a bit; the Army, like so many other idiots, thinks the body mass index is legit. So they take height and weight, and if you're "overweight" they use a tape measure to judge body fat. Meaning yoked up, muscular soldiers are considered overweight.

I hate sit-ups. HATE. I lift at least 3 times a week. I try to jog several times a week. I'm in decent shape for a guy my age (60). But, man, I hate sit-ups and do have the stereotypical beer gut.

So started a sit-ups work out in May. Have been doing it every day. Just this week, if I suck the gut in just enough, and the light is jussssst right, I can see the tiny, baby beginnings of one ab, right there at the top where the beer gut starts to extend out.

I broke a wrist a few years back and had surgery and once the bone was healed (due in some measure to a cat who decided to sleep close to it purring every moment until it was healed) i needed a lot of rehab work because i couldn't move the fingers much or bend them. Don't remember that much for those I knew who broke a bone as a kid.

I hate sit-ups. HATE. I lift at least 3 times a week. I try to jog several times a week. I'm in decent shape for a guy my age (60). But, man, I hate sit-ups and do have the stereotypical beer gut.

So started a sit-ups work out in May. Have been doing it every day. Just this week, if I suck the gut in just enough, and the light is jussssst right, I can see the tiny, baby beginnings of one ab, right there at the top where the beer gut starts to extend out.

The first 3 weeks will be awful and you will feel shame and you will be angry at yourself for falling out of shape.

But. After 3 Weeks, you will start to enjoy ALL of the ride. Even the climbs. And you will make marked improvements every time you go out.

Centuries are great fun, provided they don't end on the top of a mountain. Even still. Fun. But painful.

If you do bite it off, make sure you have a good hydration / nutrition plan going in. It will make a big difference in how wrecked you will be the following days.

If you can get some rings and hang them somewhere, or go to a park that has a bar you can hang from, leg lifts are more effective than situps at working your abs. Go slowly up, pause, then slowly down. It'll toast your abs without any of the back discomfort or anything that happens with sit ups.

The first time it happened it scared me but I don't have any other symptoms and it usually comes back up to a normal 90-110 over 70 something. The weird part is that when I go to the doctor it skyrockets so they have a completely false picture. He even put hypertense in my report. So I have been keeping a log . The highest it ever gets is 112. Next time I go I'll do a 2 week log.

While I will not say it's optimal, it is however the natural state.

I have largely settled on augmented vegetarianism as my main diet.

It's largely worked as I'm 60, I don't have high blood pressure, I don't have diabetes, the only medication I take is a proton pump inhibitor when I get bouts of acid reflux.

303 If you can get some rings and hang them somewhere, or go to a park that has a bar you can hang from, leg lifts are more effective than situps at working your abs. Go slowly up, pause, then slowly down. It'll toast your abs without any of the back discomfort or anything that happens with sit ups.

Also, abs are made in the kitchen. You have to lower your body fat to show them off.

Just about any full body movement exercise is going to do some ab work. Some bodybuilders claim they never work on abs at all because the big compound lifts like deadlifts and squats work abs plenty.

Same thing happens to me, Sharon. So when it started, I started keeping a log and took a picture with my phone for the past two months and showed it to them. Always normal or just below.

Now, when I go to the doc, I take my blood pressure that morning and again right before I leave for the doctor's office and take pictures of both so they can see the date on it. No more talk of medication since.

317 Over the past 6 months I have lost over 25lb, by means of a diet change and light exercise (yoga).
Now old clothes fit me again.
I gave up on sweets, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, etc.. Not completely, however; I still have the occasional sandwich, say, 2-3 times a week. However, eating with a lot of meat and dairy keeps me full and not hungry.
The exercise helps to some extent too, especially with motivation. Being sedentary put me in the mood for nothing. Light exercise provides the energy to keep going. However, I had already lost about 10lb before restarting exercise.

I usually try to mix them in between heavy bag rounds. Three minutes boxing, thirty seconds (or minimum rep count) of intense crunches, sit-ups, V-ups, supermans or The Wheel.

If I have anything left, its sit-ups in front of the bag where its: sit-up, jab, cross, lie-back, repeat until failure.

Fortunately, in many ways this too is the story of ShainS -- only I've had a horrible diet my entire life -- virtually no vegetables and a lot of fast & fried food (just give my body what it craves) -- and chalk it up to regular exercise and having been blessed with good genes.

The acid is really annoying (get a little even when intermittent fasting), and had success taking a a proton pump inhibitor last year that lasted 6 months. Don't want to become dependent on it, though ...

I have kettle-bells. On the steps from my deck to going into the house. With a 'Tu' on one and a "Th' on the other. Which is a constant reminder when I walk past that on Tuesday I should do some reps and then again on Thursday. Trying to do every other day requires too much mental output. So it's only twice a week.

Amen to that. Its a state of mind. I'll get the huge fan going in the shop, soak myself head-to-toe from the garden hose (wearing the five-fingered aqua shoes), then go through a good warm-up where the sweat ends up taking over.

The evaporate cooling works until my mind has come to peace with the idea that I'm going to get hot and sweaty then just monitor output with an HRM to prevent going overboard.

I used to start my bicycling runs in the CTX summer heat that way, start off dripping wet, get the nice evaporative cooling for the first mile or two, and by then the heat/sweat aren't mental impediments.

371 @333 garreret-A gravel bike!?! Throw some 32's on on an extra set of wheels for your road bike and call it a day. Only difference between a road frame and gravel is a little bit of geometry and bottom bracket height which is usually=a cycle-cross frame.

From what I read there was Paul's' office, a lawyers' office, and some sort of general store in the same building. I don't think that file cabinets full of papers are gonna create a fire that burns through the roof. So I am going with general store a year behind in rent payments.

There are 1500+ miles of FS Roads in the valley I live in...been toying with working them into my routine.

I'd prefer a life of pure singletrack. But I don't live close enough to a major trailhead for ride-outs.

Idiots have been saying this for a long time before that. The poor bloody infantry still is the only system that can hold the ground you take.

In between wars they buy the shiny tools and make the fancy weapons to look good on parades but it always turns out that they need more infantry.

Yes. They never did get the wheels good enough on those for serious off-road use.

Sort of the same idea, just built on a slightly modified Road Geometry.

Barely Slackened Head Angle, Progressive Top Tube and lower slung Bottom Bracket.

They are not completely necessary. But damn nice bikes.
