n the 1898 novel Futility the unsinkable ocean liner was named Titan. It sank. But what did he name his submersible? Posted by: Anna Puma There's an old TV show I like called One Step Beyond. It's similar to Twilight Zone, but all the stories are supposedly true. Sort of early paranormal. Anyhoo, it had an episode about the Titanic with people have premonitions and such. They covered that book written in 1898. Posted by: Blutarski, Gradually then Suddenly at June 28, 2023 07:31 PM (p3lya) 5

Tonight is an abundance of cats!
My cat will play the piano if we leave the lid open. Usually about 3am. Sometimes he sits on the bench and it's just one note, over and over. Other times he strolls from top note to bottom or vice versa. All 4 paws sounding different notes. He can get 6 note chords going. It's amusing for about, oh, 10 or 20 seconds. I have a vague memory too that Russell starred as a kid (ca. 1965) in a series of Mattel toy commercials for their "Secret Agent X-7" spy-craze toys -- playing a suave 12-year-old in a tux, naturally. It might not have been him; I'm not sure. But he'd have been good casting.

Here's a current post on Nextdoor: I wonder why our president is not addressing this issue don’t you guys wonder why the President of the United States of America is not addressing this issue of what they’re calling smoke invading the United States if in fact, that’s what it really is I’m just curious, am I the only one that wonders why the president is not addressing this issue Since it has affected 98 million people so they’re saying? Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. at June 28, 2023 09:22 PM (63Dwl) Sure smells like smoke where I am. Orange tinted sun when we could see it. 230+ PM 2.5 and hazy, like 150 ft away. > 96 As mentioned above, Kurt Russell has been with Goldie Hawn for decades. Now, you never hear her spouting much on politics, which is odd, she hailing from Takoma Park, MD. A real crazy town there.
=== Well Kurt was born in Portland ME (back before it became the nutty Somali refugee fortress it is now). Solid working class practical people back then. Posted by: sharksauce at June 28, 2023 09:30 PM (l6DYb) Posted by: Archimedes at June 28, 2023 09:31 PM (eOEVl) 181

At the beach for a few weeks. Very peaceful. Except tonight, there’s some idiot who came for bike week and doesn’t know it ended a month ago.

why the President of the United States of America is not addressing this issue of what they’re calling smoke invading the United States if in fact, that’s what it really is ...
I know, right. If those lazy Canadians that haven't died or lost everything in the fires and the ones still able to breath regardless of the deadly smoke from forest fires (if that's what it is) can't be bothered to stop the threat at the international border then Biden should immediately close the Canada / USA border! Illegal smoke has no home here. Posted by: old chick at June 28, 2023 09:42 PM (sOete) 195

Have we sent John Kerry to Canada to tell the wildfires to go out. The fires probably don’t have the right carbon permits to emit all those pollutants, and that’s against the “law.”
