When Chapek got fired, the sudden coup was arranged behind the scenes by Bob Iger and, I believe, this woman. They rallied the board to fire Chapek when Chapek was out of the office -- in fact, it was a Sunday night. He was out at an Elton John concert. They organized the coup when they knew he wouldn't be in a position to fight it. And here's the thing: This woman has been named in a class action lawsuit alleging that she cooked the books to deceive investors into thinking Disney+ was doing better than it is:

Yeah, I would still put this on the "unlikely" pile, but there are also other perfectly reasonable explanations for it.
Disney is in trouble. None of its movie studios are doing well. Merchandising is in decline. They're losing staggering amounts on streaming and playing make-believe with the books. The parks are holding up but there have been some bad and big bets in some of the parks recently. They're going to have to buy Hulu soon. Disney is a slow-motion disaster story and Wall Street is finally starting to notice. Criticism of Disney is quite-suddenly mainstream in the financial press, including in "Fortune."
A shit storm is brewing and they are going to need to take decisive action fast. They either fired her as a part of that decisive action, or she actually did quit because she wants no part of what's coming.

A-B recently announced they were not going to accept returns on Bud/Bud Light anymore, and while losing 25% of your sales is catastrophic, you *can* at least adjust future production to compensate. Moves like that suggest sales are down a lot further than what's reported.

To a finance executive that probably doesn't matter that much. There are decisions to be made about the valuation of Disney+, and removing hundreds of millions of dollars of content negatively affects it. She's probably been doing everything possible (maybe even illegal, but let's just assume only legal things) to prop up the valuation of Disney+ to help stock prices and her bonuses.
That's a major hit to her decision making process and her own pursuit of cash, and they were made above her head and without her consent, allegedly (I'm inventing stuff up in here, but it doesn't seem entirely unreasonable).

I was a bit of a hypocrite this week as I bought a case of Mic Ultra for a guy who was doing me a favor. It's his beer of choice, but to offset my feelings on the purchase, I also picked up a case of Yuengling.
It wasn't until later I discovered it appears that they're trying to offset the price drop of Bud Light by raising the cost of other AB beers.
I paid $24 for the MU and $19 for the Yuengling.

I think the reporting is on Year over Year sales.
Basically comparing a given week's sales in 2023 with the same week's sales in 2022.
Seems like the number often reported, which is in store sales, is approaching a 30% drop off YoY, but it seemed like the Memorial Day weekend was off by as much as 60% YoY.

There was every reason in the world for "very serious investors" to believe that FTX was the next Bitcoin and likely more durable 'cause of major institutional support. Down from peak highs, Bitcoin is still worth 8x-10x from the first mini-crash and longer term lull that bottomed out in late '18 and early '19. I can easily believe a desperate CFO would chase a quick 3x return in FTX, and stick around for a little too long hoping for 5x, then refuse to sell as the rug was being pulled.

Right now, probably not. I might change my mind as a middle finger. I would likely vote 3rd party (just like lots of people here promise to do if say an Establishment candidate is chosen) I've never voted 3rd party for President, ever.
Trump will lose, and if he gets the nom, I think he needs a bad enough "kick in the teeth" so we don't have him run once again in 2028. He's going to be like a GOP Le Pen that just runs over and over again and keeps losing until they die. All the while, Dems just keep winning.
I have concerns beyond electability, I dont consider him to be a conservative. He's also ineffective as a leader.
Trump got my vote twice, and enthusiastically. Now he's dragging down conservatives across the board and needs to go away.

Just happened, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced his presidential bid. Listed as a Republican; he's mid-40s in age; supported Hilliary Clinton but is "nonpartisan," and has the lovely family. Obviously, DeSantis is the target.
And, Disney scooped up HBO shows, could combine with Apple +. Even if it sucks, it would still have a great deal of "kid" and "parent" content & the means to get it out to a broad audience.
Wild guesses, nothing more, but I don't think Disney is going to veer much from woke. It encapsulates the desired America culture. Forever young, eventual cannon fodder.
