Otter Joy Cafe

yosemitesunrise.jpg
Yosemite

I'm feeling this.

Pandas apparently just play all day.

This dolphin is flipping himself like a pancake.

Sloth!

Parrot adjusts the water of his shower.

Gen Xer doesn't sweat the threat of Gen Z taking over the world.

Fish herding.

Otter self-care.

Otters check out a robotic camera built to look like a real otter.

61 The Gen x/Gen z short ...

My kid is Gen Y and I taught him all that stuff. Well, except I never hammered on the cursive thing. I had him working clutches and gearboxes at 7 on his motorcycle. I taught him to read maps at the same time. Taught him to respect and properly handle firearms at 10. To drive a stick at 12. To read a multimeter at 14. Had him finding and turning wrenches at about 8 (which taught him both fractions and the decimal system). Welding to AWS standards at 17.... My kid operates as an extension of me. The way it should be.

"You were supposed to teach us that stuff"
quote from the vid
No. I wasn't. I was not a part of the schools and society that fucked you up kid. I was an individual who both bitched about things not being taught and rectified the situation as best I could in my little sphere of influence.
I'm sorry more didn't see it that way.

Legal immigrants who have a green card could always enlist in the military and apply for expedited citizenship after 3 years in the military. I don't see how this is news since we have been doing it for over 30 years.

Do you honestly believe that only "legal" migrants apply?

Especially with the number of military-aged men coming across the border?

As far as this junta is concerned, they're all legal migrants.

Fun fact:

Manual transmissions didn't die out because of lack of demand. They were removed from the market because it's easier for manufacturers to predict the MPG estimates on their fleet with the automatics.

It doesn't matter if you want one (and people do). Manufacturers won't produce them, and you're not allowed to buy one, because of the federal laws on gas mileage.

They tell you it's your fault, but they're lying, same as always.

Point is slide rulers train your brain to see the math. Same with working it out on paper long hand. Same as writing cursive is intimate. It's the connection to the physics of what you are doing between body and soul. I eventually learned to convert fraction to decimal and visa verse in my head. I can go to anywhere and know what direction I am facing.

Pushing buttons and getting answers isn't the same thing.

I just watched a video on the murder and coverup at Ft. Hood, of Vanessa Guillen.

I think it's about time to fire everyone over the rank of O5, get the army down to about 90,000 men, and the navy to about two dozen ships. The Air Farce can keep some jets, but otherwise it's all missiles, all the time. Aimed outward. We pull everyone back to continental U.S. (and leave the remaining ships in and around our coasts... including Hawaii).

Put up a sign: "We're closed" and fire on anyone who tries to get in.

I'm done pretending our military is any less corrupt than the rest of our institutions.

Yep. Same as most things, it's perspective. If I lived in the city I wouldn't be able to understand buying a manual transmission. If I lived in the mountains (and enjoyed driving) I wouldn't be able to understand buying an automatic transmission.

190 Wikipedia: Library hand is a rounded style of handwriting once taught in library schools. The intention was to ensure uniformity and legibility in the handwritten cards of library catalogs. Beginning in September 1885, Melvil Dewey and Thomas Edison developed and perfected the approved library hand to be taught in library school and used in libraries. The penmanship was based on Edison's own handwriting in which he stated that "I had perfected a style of handwriting which would allow me to take legibly from the wire, long hand, forty-seven and even fifty-four words a minute".

199 Point is slide rulers train your brain to see the math. Same with working it out on paper long hand. Same as writing cursive is intimate. One of the biggest wins if someone learns math/physics/engineering on a slide rule is the appreciation for the digits of precision of your data. Rarely are you good for more than two or three digits behind the decimal.

Yeah, a friend of mine just bought the Civic over the Integra (better styling) and went with the 2.0L base engine with the manual. It's got a surprising bit of pep and would probably be competitive with sporty cars from the early 2000s.

He said he preferred it because apparently the 2.0L has been around forever and they've had some issues with the turbo (1.5 maybe?), and he buys bulletproof anytime he can.

Chebby wrung every last possible bit of handling out of the classic front engine 'Vette. Then, things become a matter of center of gravity, polar moment of inertia and other aspects of Newtonian physics.

They had to go mid-engine to remain competitive on the track. Which matters: "Win on Monday, sell on Monday!"

Maybe the styling could've been more subtle, but sub tile and Corvette buyer barely touch on the ol' diagram of Venn.

Worst thing on the new 'Vettes, is the interior is seriously cramped. Legroom? Sure. Laterally, it's a "you'd better LIKE your passenger" proposition.

I've seen some sans some of the more egregious fins and spoilers, and painted in pleasing non Hot Wheels colors. Nicer, those.

400 Cadillac, Corvette, Camaro are all pretty much the same engine, drive train and some other bits when it comes to racing. Obviously different bodies and suspension geometry for whatever the car is going to race on. The Garage 56 experiment at LeMans was a NASCAR tweaked for road/endurance racing. But was, at heart, a NASCAR stock car. Likewise with Cadillac prototypes and Corvette GT's.

The design changes to the 'Vette where necessary to remain competitive in IMSA. They'd long since been outclassed by mid-engine Lambos, Ferraris and even the Acura NSX.

In two years or so the Vette will be a hybrid... electric and gas. So enjoy it while you can.

Dealers figured out that it's cheaper to keep a trickle of cars coming in. No need to insure the same inventory, people will clamor for the few they've got because it's all they've got, etc.

It's all a scam to nudge us in the direction they want us to go. Fixed pricing is one, as mentioned above.

Scarcity is another. We're seeing the conditioning for the switch to EVs. Empty dealer parking lots will seem normal in twelve years when gas cars are outlawed and you can't buy a golf cart, either.

Oh, look! They've got three today! Go honey, go! Don't miss this one!
