Nike's "Pride:" Woke Company Goes All-In on Transgender Surgery for Minors

The Portland-based corporation will host a panel discussion with Dr. Blair Peters, a surgeon at the Oregon Health and Science University, who has admitted to performing "gender affirming mastectomies" on minors. ... In a now-deleted tweet from last year, Peters said he had "performed gender affirming mastectomies (top surgeries) for 3 young adults and adolescents" in one day. Peters makes another reference to performing sex change operations on minors in a video titled "Meet OHSU's Dr. Blair Peters," where he discusses the experiences that motivate him as a surgeon. BTW, I confessed a couple of years ago that despite my hatred of Nike's "corporate values," I continued to buy their shoes, just because I was familiar with them and knew my perfect size in their shoes. (Knowing what size shoe you are lets you get deals online without worrying about having to send them back.) Well, a commenter suggested that I try New Balance Fresh Foams, and I did, and I switched. The sizing was the same. Most recently I've switched to Asics Gel Nimbus. (Same sizing as Nike, too.) They're now my main "normal" shoe, apart from the barefoot shoes from Within. But I'm Nike-free. I used to wear Asics, but I heel strike and started getting knee and back pain. After the switch, no pain at all. They are a bit harder on your calves given the shoes force a more natural gate landing on the balls of your feet and calf doing it's job as a shock absorber.

On a separate note, I really enjoyed the Pride Month segment on Fox this morning highlighting that delightful little transgendered boy that was able to tell his parents that he wasn't a girl even before he was able to speak.
I see no way this kind of thing doesn't lead to the child when grown straight up murdering his/her parents for doing this to them and ruining their lives before they've even started.

Black men are a big market for Nike, and so far that market is extremely resilient. It's also a youth brand, and that market is also quite resilient, at least in Nike's case. If either of those segments crack, Nike will adjust course. If they don't, it won't.
So far, my money is on, "no issues here." Nike is not going to be harmed by this, and it is pointless to tilt at that particular windmill.

decent, it's why I got them. Until recently I didn't bother putting in the Easy Feet arch support inner soles, but used them as they were, right out of the box.
Recently I put the Easy Feet arch supports in because I was using the minimalist shoes so much that I thought I should get extra arch support when I wore a normal shoe.
But I was able to use them without extra arch supports without a problem.

Go to a New Balance store if they have one in your area - or even anywhere near your area. I am hard to fit and the New Balance store did a splendid job for me. They didn't have anything that actually fit me well out of the box, but they have lots of accessories, inserts, insoles, etc. and they know their products and can usually find a product combination that does work. I've been there twice (two different locations), and both times the sales staff has been knowledgeable, polite and worked their asses off to find a weird combo that actually worked for me (one for sneakers, one for boots). I can order online now and save the drive, but their stores are top-notch in the "we'll get you fitted" department, at least in my experience.

When I was about 15-16, was going to buy some baseball cleats and the only brand that had the style I wanted was Nike. Nothing else even came close. After some hemming and hawing, I decided I just couldn't bring myself to supporting Nike and went with something else.

Ive pretty much exclusively used New Balance for the last decade or so. Their 574s come in 1,000 styles and surprisingly i always get complimented on them despite not being a real fashionable person. One problem is a year or two ago they completely screwed around with their sizing, so even though my old 10s still fit, everything new I need to get a 10.5. They can also look a bit wide, which as a shorter person can look a bit frumpy. I like their Fresh Foam sneakers without the huge white sole, and they're light and comfy.
Funny the only other brand I do wear is Asics, either in that style, or their Onisuka Tiger line. If I remember Saucony were also pretty comfortable, as well as K-Swiss (are they even still made) All of which I can't say ive ever heard of jumping into this DEI shit.

I honestly think they're fine with it. The yuuutes (of all races) are fine with it in general. I know my kids are all meh about it. Their attitude is whatever, be who you want to be. They have out and proud gay kids at school and it's no big deal.

I agree. The purely performative allyship in safe markets is the kind of posturing that American brands routinely engage in. They're activists at home, but at home isn't where the real problems are. Yes, the United States is still a place grappling with proper trans rights and LGBT2SQI+ justice, but for all of the dreadful problems and genocidal anti-trans violence in the United States, there are much worse parts of the world and those parts of the world are *also* markets for brands like Nike and Proctor & Gamble.

On yesterday's satellite run the view of earth and the clouds in motion showed the extent of the smoke and haze from the fires in Ontario, Canada. It basically covered the eastern third of the country and you could actually see it move south and east as the day progressed.
Here in Kentucky we've been seeing the haze and smoke from wild fires burning up north in Canada for several weeks, but yesterday it was really bad. You could smell it.

There are some vocal trans people who are older who oppose what is going on now. Firstly, they don't deny their bodies are what they are, even having had surgeries and a lifetime of hormones, and generally seem to have been adjusted to themselves and fully adult *before* surgery and not expecting that to "fix" their problems.
Actually, I think that Navy SEAL guy who detransitioned says he still has gender dysphoria but he had to stop lying and live with it. Which is what this "you are a real boy" or "you are a real girl" is. A mental illness is 100% a real thing and shouldn't involve shame, but saying that a person simply really for REAL is actually a man or woman is a lie. And the problem isn't solved.

A client of mine a while back, a tech company, was desperate to diversify their employee base. Any competent woman or minority man would have been hired on the spot and given whatever salary he/she demanded.
Problem was they could not find anyone even barely suitable. It was kind of funny to watch it go down.

Yes and same thing with the models too. I know several models. Two are roommates. Both are reasonably successful, albeit not close to supermodel status. One is classically beautiful in a clean, almost old-school way. The other is pretty but waaaaay out there in terms of tattoos, hair, attitude, and androgyny. Guess which one gets more work?
