FOIA'd Texts Reveal that Rochelle Wallensky and AFT Union Leader Randi Weingartner Conspired to Change the Criteria for Re-Opening Schools, To Keep Them Closed Longer

The teachers unions really care about the kids.

American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten voiced concern to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Rochelle Walensky about the language of the federal agency's February 2021 school opening guidance a day before it was made public, according to newly reported texts that shed light on their friendly relationship.

The text messages showing the chummy exchange between Weingarten and Walensky were obtained by the Fairfax County Parents Association through a Freedom of Information Act request with the CDC.

The text chains seem to show Walensky caving to pressure applied by Weingarten to keep schools shuttered in February 2021 and then thanking Weingarten, whom she refers to as her "friend," after the union released a statement praising the health agency.

On Feb. 11, 2021, a day before the CDC issued guidance that put the brakes on full, in-person instruction in schools, text messages show Weingarten informed Walensky that she had learned of language in the incoming guidance that seemed "at odds" with something they had previously discussed.

...

The powerful union boss then sends Walensky language that she claims "was leaked by someone in agency" to the news outlet that reads, in part, "all schools can provide in-person instruction (either full or hybrid), through strict adherence to mitigation strategies."

The following day, when the CDC released its operation guidance for schools, the phrase "all schools can provide in-person instruction" was modified to "all schools have options to provide in-person instruction."

Weingarten then texts Walensky a link to the AFT's press release on the guidance which includes her glowing statement about the CDC.

49 A pox on both their houses. I hope the AFT's actions backfire as more parents decide to find a way to homeschool or to continue to homeschool now. Just as 9/11 showed that the HW trope of "don't try to fight back in a hijacking, you're amateur efforts will get people killed" was BS, the covid school shutdown's surely showed parents who pay attention that "its better to have professionals teach your kids" is complete BS. The # of professional teachers that actually focus on teaching is dwarfed by all the education graduates who have only been taught how to indoctrinate kids.

51 The best example was Oregon, which gave first priority for the Covid vaccine to school district employees, ahead of the 80-year-olds (nobody in the state government would admit to having made that decision), and then still kept the schools closed longer than any state, other than California.

Oregon then banned all standardized exams for a number of years, so you couldn't see how much damage had been done to the students.

When there was a proposal to reopen the schools in February, 2021, many teachers protested saying that since "the school year was almost over", and that the existing virtual school arrangements should be continued until the following September.

Thankfully, our ability to thrive and increase our wealth, power and influence doesn't depend on you or your forgiveness. It doesn't depend on your sanction. It doesn't depend on your consent.

Don't you get it yet? We're in charge. We're staying that way. We were after power. We meant it. We got it. We will never ever relinquish it. Our job is to rule, and to personally capitalize on every opportunity that our ruling system presents to us as individuals. Your job is to comply, not to question.

Go to work, pay your taxes, go home, and shut the hell up. That's your job and your purpose - your *only* purpose. Step out of line and we'll throw you in a gulag. This is the way it is, and the way it works. Smarten up and comes to terms with it. Kick back, relax, pay and obey. Don't cross us or we'll give you something to really bitch about.

81 The idea that the Teachers Unions represent the interests of students is one of the biggest -- and sadly, most successful -- scam of the 20th Century. Everyone recognizes that every other labor union ever created was formed to represent the interests of the union members only. Labor unions never even hid that fact; indeed it was the sole reason for their existence, and they promoted themselves that way.

But some way, some how, the Teachers Unions managed to convince people that, unlike every other labor union ever formed, they represented the interests not solely of themselves, but also of their students. I'm amazed at how stupid some people can be, how they can so easily swallow obvious bullshit.

And what's particularly amusing about it is that the teachers unions have been pretty clear about it. Albert Shanker put it pretty damned clearly (probably - the leftists always point out that it was never written down anywhere in notes or essays attributable to Shanker, only appearing as a quote in the local newspaper after he held an event) quite a long time ago:
When school children start paying union dues, that 's when I'll start representing the interests of school children.

133 From The Cuckshed Bulwark: There is an incessant and increasingly tiresome debate raging within the pro-democracy coalition on the question of who constitutes a bigger threat to the Republic between the two leading GOP contenders, Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis.

...the case that DeSantis is “less extreme” than Trump is getting increasingly hard to make...He has not chosen to target Trump for his attempt to overthrow our democracy, his rampant corruption, the inhuman immigration regime, his Russophilia, or any of the other 100 reasons...

Instead, DeSantis’s opening salvo was to go at Trump for two of the very few good things the former president did: The First Step Act, a bipartisan criminal justice reform bill, and Operation Warp Speed, which streamlined the process for the development of the COVID vaccine.

Ron DeSantis is far less likely to be the leader of a violent overthrow of the government than Trump. Strong agree! But you can’t run to the nutball right of the person who tried to do that and then get mad at us simply for noticing.

136 Hundreds of White women gather at Colorado Capitol after plea from women of color to use their 'privilege' to demand action on gun violence
tinyurl.com/2ca8fp7b

The movement calls for White women to be at the forefront of the sit-in because, "we know what happens when we show up with demands."
"We know what happens when we show up in large numbers to fight for our rights. We’ve been doing it for generations. We're always the ones whose bodies are in the most danger and at the most risk," Strawn, an author and owner of the "Speaking of Racism" podcast said.
"So, it appealed to me very much that this was actually a time where we are asking Black folks and other marginalized & vulnerable communities to sit this one out & allow the White women and their privileged bodies, their privilege, & their power to show up. It's time for them to show up," Strawn added

The ESF is composed of four primary emergency relief funds: (1) the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund, (2) the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund, (3) the Emergency Assistance to non-Public Schools (EANS) Fund, and (4) the Higher Education Emergency Relief (HEER) Fund.

Ahh the language of the Bulkward - it;s always a dictionary of words used by the 'put upon' from their detractors. "Tiresome" always means "arguments I've tried to defend against and can't" - "debunked and perennially wrong" always means, yeah, they're right so they keep coming back to stick in my idiotic face all the time!

Weird case, and I think the weirdo got a raw deal.

One of the greatest tech support calls I have ever been on had this happen. The other vendor was a Bostonian who was *extremely* dismissive of the customer and talked down to him, assumed he was an idiot, etc. The customer was, IIRC, from South Carolina. Thick southern accent.

Eventually, the customer had enough. He interrupted the guy and said, "Listen here. I may talk slow, but that doesn't mean I *think* slow. I'm done talking to you. Get someone else and make sure he knows how to be courteous."

To his credit, the dude didn't fight it. He was never going to regain the trust of that customer, and he knew it. He got someone else. We got the problem solved. I dunno if was acting like a condescending prig because that customer was southern, but that sure was the customer's assessment.

309 Why isn't there newz about illegals crossing the boarder over in California? All Texas, Arizona so far. Why go through the motions of putting a few on a plane or bus when they could just waltz into CA by the millions?

If I'm in the business of moving illegals inside Mexico I'd be running non-stop busses and trains right up the CA border.

Probably more profit margin by moving the illegals in bulk anyway.

310 If I could find them I'd post the LA Times and NY Times articles from the last two years showing that millions in each of those states alone has stopped going to school.

____

Quick Google search:

"Ultimately, a 2022 national tracking survey found that 1.2 million students left public schools since the start of the pandemic (Return2Learn, 2022)."

That's nationally.

311 Oooo...

Doomcock says that Iger is ready to fire Kathleen Kennedy.

I wonder if that's an upgrade or downgrade from being "about to fire" her like he's said for the past 3 years.

313 Kathleen Kennedy is pretty long in the tooth so I think she's likely to retire soon but apparently she is impossible to fire.

That would be a shame. Her work of destruction is not yet complete.

Now we have two declarations of truth that are at odds with each other. Our problem today is to determine which one is more like to be correct. Generally this is done by finding sources that are not closely related to these reports, taking into consideration which set of information best suits the powers that be, and who is releasing this information.
Is anyone able to give me another suggestion outside of contacting a selection of school districts and hoping they will provide accurate counts?

318 "Ultimately, a 2022 national tracking survey found that 1.2 million students left public schools since the start of the pandemic (Return2Learn, 2022)."

Well I guess we'll never know which of these two claims is true, but I know which one I hope is accurate. I'd suggest that teacher sources might not be entirely honest, though.

I think that at this point Doomcock is banking on KK eventually getting fired, in which case - at that moment, for that one time - he will have been right about it. Like calling 20 recessions out of the last three.

Again, he never says "Kathleen Kennedy is about to be fired!" He says "I have a source, which take it or leave it, claims that Kathleen Kennedy is about to be fired!"

Kinda funny but I thought, for the most part, teachers just got in the way of my education. Yes, they made assignments, but the "lecture" component was generally minimally productive. Going over homework in class was instructive if something couldn't be figured out (and that was always a big time sink for class instruction), but most everything was in the book. Read the text, do the homework assignment, and return the next day for attendance taking. That was just about everything I needed.

Classroom was, but for socializing skills, a waste of time.

325 *Screams into a void*
Now that's over, I am proud that an organization based in the county of my birth uncovered this information.
I'm also incandescent with rage that Randi Weingarten fucked up the lives of millions of kids, possibly permanently.
And as sad as that is, that shouldn't be your big takeaway from the story. The big takeaway should be that Swamp doesn't need to be drained. It needs to be napalmed then the earth salted behind it so it can never grow back. The nation's bureaucracy needs to be fumigated out of their offices and flung into the streets.
And that will require complete and utter victory up and down the ballot next year combined with fresh leadership in both the Executive and Congressional branches. You will have your opinion on the candidates that can best deliver that and I'll have mine. But that is the only goal next year. Total electoral annihilation.
In a better time Randi Weingarten would be put in stocks and had rotten fruit thrown at her, a figured to be mocked, derided and laughed at.
One more thing. Defund the teachers unions. Private education for all!
