The Cost of Foxweiser's Firing of Tucker Carlson: One Million Viewers Every Night

According to Mediaite, examining the ratings of Fox News primetime shows an average loss of one million viewers per night since firing Tucker Carlson on April 24.
Epoch Times provides the numbers.

In the four weeks before Carlson left the network, Fox News' primetime hours averaged some 2.6 million total viewers. But in the four weeks after his departure, those hours are down to just 1.6 million viewers.

Yid With Lid points out that advertisers don't pay based on whether you're number one or two or five or fifty. They pay based on number of viewers.

He also points out that most advertising space is sold with a guarantee of the minimum number of viewers that will see the ad. If that guaranteed level is not met, the network has to give the advertiser what I think are called "make-ups" -- free ads to make up for the failure to meet the guaranteed number of viewers for the paid ad. And obviously, if that ad time slot is being given away for free as a make-up, it can't be sold.

I think she referred to Chris Wallace as someone whose ratings are "slashies."

Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? had already suffered drastically low numbers after its first two seasons, leaving the network's boss, Chris Licht, to change his airtime in hopes the veteran host would attract a new audience.
Wallace's 10 PM ET Friday, May 5, failed to deliver and was worse than the week before.
According to Nielsen, CNN's Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? came in last place among both categories, losing to FOX News channel's The Ingraham Angle by roughly 300%.

The CNN brand broke at least a decade ago, and saving it was always going to be an impossible task. The best bet would have been to end the brand, fire all the talent, and use the infrastructure to build a new network with a new name.

I agree, mostly. Licht is vulnerable because although he did well to get rid of some of the worst dreck, he replaced it with nothing. Most importantly, he did *nothing* to get people like you and me to watch. So, he drove away the old audience, did nothing to get a new one, and now wonders why he's next on the chopping block.

What could he have done? There gets to be a point where a brand is poison, and CNN is there. I fill my tin about every 18-24 months and go change it in.

I used to use a big tupperware container for it, and it would usually result in about $80 in change. My new tin is about 30% bigger (by volume), so i was expecting about $110. $285 blew my mind. My change mix must have gotten a lot more quarter-heavy than it used to be. And there's not a sensible explanation like, "I don't use parking meters or coin-op laundry anymore." I didn't then, either.

I think that's correct, and so does Wikipedia for what that's worth.

It generally requires a court order, being served, and all that.

Except for the IRS. They just have to send a notice to the last address they have for you, then they can grab your assets with no further notice, court order, or anything.

Maybe it's not Coinstar, but I think I've seen some stand-alone coin counters that actually give you more than face value if you agree to accept it in the form of a gift card to one of a select group of merchants. That seems like it could be a reasonable deal, if you regularly shop at one of those merchants.

You can end up with four pennies in change. You could end up with three quarters. You never end up with more than one nickel or dime unless they are running out. Therefore you should have a preference for pennies and quarters dominating.

There's very little to spend change on for anything besides a quarter, so that reduces them some, but not enough to change matters.

The ones in the grocery store separate the real coins from the fake ones. Most people don't look into the drawer at the bottom of the change machine. Don't know if they are still doing this but checking the coin machine's bottom drawer was all you had to do. Real silver and copper.

Private sales are the only way to get any real money for your guns. I've sold a couple noteworthy guns. One was a 1911 that was over $1300 new and only had a couple hundred rounds through it. The best offer I got from a gun store was $600. I also sold a H&K pistol that was $850 new. This too was barely used. The best gun store offer was $350.

I sold both of them privately online and got $1100 for the 1911 and $700 for the H&K. Obviously I sent them to a legit FFL near the buyer to complete the transfer.

Supposedly the eleven-teenth Sanction package is supposed to punish these third party nations somehow exploiting the holes the West intentionally left in the sanctions to keep oil flowing. I assume there will be different holes, or new ones because they need the oil.

Oh, and the US also buys from these sources. A certain mix of oil at refineries needs to be the weight of Russian oil, so we have continued to get it the entire time. All the sanctions have done is increase the price so Russia can sell at a discount to India.
