The Morning Report — 5/18/23

murphnullif.jpg

Good morning, kids. NULLIFICATION. It's what's for breakfast. And lunch and dinner. On the latest episode of the podcast (linked here and in the sidebar) As CBD, Joe Mannix and I somehow swerved into the top of immigration, I believe it was Joe who loud and proud stated the "N" word in terms of finally retaliating against the illegal junta, vis a vis trying to impose its will on the states. It's kind of funny, i.e. revolting, how as President Trump was actually succeeding more than any other president in over 50 years in addressing the illegal alien problem and starting to actually make a noticeable dent in it, that blue cities and states declared themselves as "sanctuaries" for illegals. Regardless of the fact that what they were doing was in violation of legitimate and heretofore longstanding (if not enforced) federal law, they were in fact invoking the 9th and 10th Amendments to the Constitution (sound familiar?). Something that up to that point they had loathed vis a vis the charged phrase "states' rights." Just like how the anti-war generation can suddenly become the Wolfowitz in sheep's clothing vis a vis Ukraine, it's rather amazing how this mangey rabid leopard can change its spots just like that, isn't it? But I digress.

Well, here's the revolting tyrant sitting on top of the compost heap of the Garden State once again deciding that the Constitution which he and his ilk so revile is suddenly a useful shield/cudgel with which to beat the shit out of the rest of us.

Host Katy Tur asked, “Is there anything you can do as a Governor if mifepristone gets struck down by the Supreme Court?”

Murphy answered, “Oh my Lord. I listened to your reporters talk about some of the positions these judges in New Orleans are taking. We’ve gone to the CEOs of both Walgreens and CVS to make sure that we had unencumbered access. We have considered a bulk acquisition. We have clearly joined in legal action as an amicus matter. Everything is on the table, and please, God, it doesn’t come to that, but we will continue to fight it like heck.”

Tur then asked, “So, if you get a bulk order of mifepristone, would you be then prescribing it out in defiance of the Supreme Court?”

Murphy responded, “To be determined. But when I say everything is on the table, Katy, I mean that. I think when you’ve got — this is going to cost — this action, generally, whether it’s mifepristone or whether it’s North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida — by the way, at six weeks, my wife and I don’t think that we knew we were pregnant with any of our four kids at six weeks. So, people need to understand that. But this is going to cost people’s lives. It’s going to cost them health. It’s also going to cost people’s lives, women in particular, sadly. And so, if that’s what’s at stake, we’ll do whatever it takes to save lives.”

"On the table means" he is absolutely going to do that, if for no other reason so that this clammy, pastey, lickspittle, crooked shit-weasel of a toady can strut, preen, gloat and showboat for the TV cameras that he was first to take an axe to the Supreme Court! That's what this is really about; the delegitimizing and demonization of SCOTUS which for so long has been a 95% reliable tool of enforcing Leftist Democrat – i.e. anti-American and anti-Constitutional policy – since Marbury but thanks primarily to Donald Trump is, at best 50-50. They can't have that, of course. "Four legs good, two legs bad!" You can guess which party is which, I'm sure.

Dare I say it, this goes beyond the "N" word and into the "S" word – secession. But as I wrote that, it occurred to me that the Junta and the blue statehouses and city halls do not want that. They want absolute control over the entire country under one central all-powerful government. Naturally, that they and they alone will control, elections being a mere formality and window dressing. So for this and many other related reasons a mutually agreed upon amicable, or at least non-shooting-civil war, national divorce is a non-starter, at least from their side of it.

This is why I applaud Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis and the governors of at least 27 other states who are standing behind them as both send illegal alien invaders en masse up to their areas and now in the case of DeSantis, sending national guard and other state law enforcement troops to aid Abbott down at the southern border. Forgetting for a moment about nullifying a SCOTUS decision, which in a sense is bad enough. What would happen if Abbott, DeSantis and all the others sent the illegals in their midst not just to blue cities and states but used their Air National Guard assets to fly them as far south as they could. The freaking Ross Ice Shelf comes to mind but let's go for attainable goals like Nicaragua and El Salvador for starters?

They don't have the legal standing to usurp federal foreign policy? Well, tell Phil Murphy and Joey Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants to stick that mifepristone up their collective sagging, prolapsed, diseased sigmoids and rotate on it.

And just like on the podcast I'm going to swerve into abortion, which we all were rather passionate about vis a vis the political versus the moral aspects of this issue. We mentioned asshole loudmouth globalist stooges like Lindsay Graham just before the midterms blathering about making abortion illegal not just on a state by state basis but nationally. Yup, that sure did wonders for our side, didn't it? Aside from tainting us as hypocrites for being supporters of the 9th and 10th Amendments while giving the Lefties the talking points of "ramming your puritanical misogynistic racist homophobic edicts down everyone's throats" It brings up the broader issue of infanticide in utero both in terms of the politics and morality.

I am in general anti-abortion, or anti-abortion after a certain point in the pregnancy. Irrespective of the conditions that brought about it, rape, incest and life of the mother. And the last one has been proven to be statistically rare, but it does make for a nice leftist rhetorical weapon. My point is, yes, they are going to beat us over the head with this politically because the GOP is absolutely useless and clueless in being able to counter their arguments -- check that. The GOP accepts their premises in the first place, and that's the killer-diller. Like the transexual madness and the illegal alien invasion, abortion can also be a winning issue for our side.

The key here is wresting control of the narrative from the Left. It's not about a woman's right to choose, it's about at what point are you choosing to murder a fully formed and feeling human life? 4 months? 5? 6? When your water is breaking and the vulva dilates? Two years after birth?! Yes, gentle reader. Barack Obama's own science adviser before he got that gig stated that a baby should not be considered as "fully formed" until it reaches its terrible two stage. "But, but Sefton! The Democrats energize their base when they talk about abortion!" Okay, but what about our base? Does this not energize them as much or more so than theirs? Especially if we have politicians who can shove the words down their throats every time a propagandist opens his filthy cake hole to spout them? Look at this example where Ted Cruz, of all people, gives an absolute clinic in doing just that. Not the usual laconic, intellectual bullshit that is his wont, but in-your-face, fired-up "you're a goddam liar!" kind of rhetoric.

We're winning the culture war and abortion is a big part of it. It can be if we make it so. My two cents for what they're worth.

As for nullification, well if Chris Murphy wants to secede from the union, be my guest. And take the rest of your blue shit holes with you. If not, then what Andrew Breitbart said.

10 Good morning everyone. Thank you J.J.

Ascension Thursday
Daily Feast
After Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead, He continued to appear to His disciples for a period of 40 days. After this time, with His Apostles gathered around Him on the Mount of Olives, Jesus was taken up bodily into heaven, as recorded in the Gospels. To comfort them in His physical absence, He promised to send them a Consoler and Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to be with them and to guide them into all truth until the end of the world. The Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord is celebrated on the 40th day after Easter Sunday, also called Ascension Thursday. It is a Holy Day of Obligation, and among the oldest and most solemn feasts on the liturgical calendar. In many dioceses the celebration of the feast is transferred to the following Sunday.

22 ...that blue cities and states declared themselves as "sanctuaries" for illegals.
++++
The sanctuary stuff long predates Trump, but that is beside the point.

The point is that there are two things that are fairly important, at least as far as precedent goes: "sanctuary" cities and states, and legalization of marijuana or other drugs. Both of these are nullification movements. These are the states or cities declaring, "we will not, by state or local law, comply with federal law." That's nullification. And they got away with it.

Of course, both of those forms of nullification were desirable as far as the deep state is concerned and so there was no opposition, but this is absolutely no different in any way from any nullification conservatives may wish to pursue. Unlike with leftist nullification, however, there *will* be a confrontation over it.

The idea that some "investigator" had his pussy fill with tears of patriotism when shown the "evidence" that the Clinton campaign was responsible for Russia... something that was actually reported multiple times by every reputable news outlet for the last six years is not fathomable and not even worthy of entertainment.

As usual we are being asked to swallow the impossible and then smile in bold shades of Red, White and Blue. Fuck off. That is over. And thankfully most of us aren't stupid or asleep anymore.

It’s hard to deny that’s what happening, after seeing what’s going on in Minnesota and now Connecticut."

Now Connecticut Is on the Verge of Protecting Pedophiles, Too

Don't miss this, folks.

"Here’s how the proposed new definition reads:

(26) “Sexual orientation” means a person’s identity in relation to the gender or genders to which they are romantically, emotionally or sexually attracted, inclusive of any identity that a person (A) may have previously expressed, or (B) is perceived by another person to hold."

Remember, gay isn't illegal. They are protecting something else. It's right there, folks.

That any serious scientist or scientific policymaker is still deferring to ground-based temperature monitoring in this day and age says all that needs to be said.

We've had weather satellites for a long time, and they are much, much more accurate over much wider areas. They also don't show much if any warming. But that doesn't matter, of course. We use a shrinking number of shitty ground installations and low-density sensor networks of floating buoys instead. Easier to fudge the numbers that way.

I am Arthur Frayn, and I am Zardoz.

I have lived 300 years, and long to die. But death is no longer possible, I am immortal.

I present now my story - full of mystery and intrigue. Rich in irony, and most satirical. It is set deep within a possible future, so none of these events have yet occurred. But they may! Be warned, lest you end as I. In this tale I am a fake god by occupation, and a magician by inclination. Merlin is my hero! I am the puppet master. I manipulate many of the characters and events you will see.

But I am invented too for your entertainment and amusement. And you, poor creatures, who conjured you out of the clay? Is God in showbusiness too?

138 It's funny... The GWoT was an unmitigated disaster, we lost it, we got humiliated, our country got a lot more Muslim during it (to the point where we've now got a few them scuttling around in Congress), and the modern American police state was born from it. It can and will be argued one day that it sounded the death knell of the American republic.

Watching it all unfold in its rancid progression over four fucking Presidencies was enough to put me off my feed when it comes to the US fighting any more foreign wars. I think it was for most of the country, who started out supporting that series of disastrous conflicts.

But the Democrat base is a mirror image of the rest of the country. It was always purely political for them, so everything is in reverse for that third of the population.

Republican President? "No War For Oil! Are our children more precious than theirs?"

Democrat President? "Hahaha! Qaddafi got ass-raped with a knife! Awesome!! A limited nuclear exchange with Russia is an acceptable risk! Boycott Russian dressing!"

Unlike JJ, I don't believe our side is winning the culture war.We the People won a huge battle when Roe V Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court, yet that's a singular victory in a long string of retreats and likely won't last if the GOPe can find a way to get all those big lobby bucks from Planned Parenthood back. Everyone remember them? The non-federal organization the Republicans kept giving your tax dollars to, all the while railing against Roe V Wade? She probably does believe it, which is the funny part. It would be consistent with contemporary feminism.

Hiring scantily-clad women to sell a product? Well that encourages and panders to the "male gaze" and objectifies women. It's bad. It's dehumanizing. It's tantamount to slavery.

Women wearing next to nothing and going to the club to drink, dance and engage a little bit of filthy bathroom sex, though? That's liberating. Women showing off their tits to help a progressive politician elected? So long as they're not paid for it, that's liberating, too. That's women taking ownership of their bodies and wresting control of their sexuality away from the patriarchy.

They're both so rare as to be non-existent. If the mother's life is at risk the baby is delivered, and if a woman is raped she immediately receives a bunch of medicines at the hospital to prevent disease and pregnancy.

It's a cudgel, nothing more. 99.9%+ of abortions are recreational.

I never understood why incest is included in that list. If it's sex with an underage relative, it's already rape. If it's sex between two adults who happen to be related, and it's consensual, why does it get a rape exemption?

This is the key problem with the "health of the mother" argument. The health of the mother can - and often does - dictate that the baby must be delivered. It does not dictate that there must be an abortion. A delivery might not be successful. The child may die, especially if extremely premature. But it needn't die by definition. The same condition - health of the mother - is addressed by delivery rather than abortion.

And with the strength and frankly miraculous capability of neonatal care in this country, the odds are good that the child will *not* die if it happens.

Health of the population. Incest results in deformed or retarded children at an wildly higher rate than in non-incestuous relationships. There is a reason that incest is almost universally illegal (the Islamic world is a notable exception).

But the real reason is the same as the rape carve-out. Most incest pregnancies probably involve an underage girl, if I had to guess.

I've argued for a while that an actual opposition party would have an inherently anti-urban slate of policies.

Cities drive people crazy (literally) and make them socialists...but I repeat myself.

And honestly this wouldn't even be difficult. Think of all the bureaucratic nuisances the left uses against us. Now, imagine a red state turning that power on their local big blue shithole.

Shrink cities and you shrink the number of actual blue voters and the amount of fraud they can produce. And there is no actual need for cities anymore anyway

A big part of that is not letting them set the table with euphemisms or word games.

Abortion should always be referred to as "killing a human child" or murdering if you wish.

Abortion is simply killing a human being at the most vulnerable period of it's life.

Let proponents of abortion make the argument that it's not killing a baby.

It's unscientific and they'll sound stupid and heartless if framed properly.

Even without the "feeling inside" - which I cannot relate to because I am not a woman - the woman has missed a period and when women miss a period, they do a pregnancy test. That will answer the question right there. There are some women with irregular menstruation for whatever reason and there is room to debate the point in my opinion - maybe eight weeks is fairer than six, I dunno - but "I lacked the knowledge" is not a position that holds much if any credibility given the biological mechanisms and the cheap and plentiful detection tools involved.

Logan's Run's story is pretty standard stuff. The details are a bit out there, but it also pretty comfortably fits in with the standard look of 70s scifi.

Zardoz is...much more, down to its very basic storytelling of an elite so bored with its own existence that it invites its own destruction.

300 So what should we do about shoplifting, from an ethical or politics perspective? I don't want people to go to jail for a nonviolence crime like shoplifting, but I also don't want people to be able to shoplift without consequences, with all the consequent corrosive effect on neighborhoods. Is there any way of deterring theft without prison or violence?

The answer is to remove the need for shoplifting. But curing the societal ills that lead to shoplifting is an immense task better suited for a state or national government, not a city government.

They can also eliminate the self-check lanes. It's harder to steal through a check out stand if a worker scans every item and checks your shopping cart

I'm not sure societal ills are entirely to blame for shoplifting. Winona Ryder engaged in shoplifting! we could reverse the staggering economic inequality in this greedy nation of ours, we could solve a lot of the problems that right now seem insurmountable.

I'd start by taxing the wealthy - and going after companies engaged in wage theft. Most of society's ills are based on income inequality.

Something's fishy. If that's what it really was, they'd just price it at a dollar and cut in the distributor for the difference so he can make the store owner whole.

If they're doing it as a rebate scheme, then I can readily think of two reasons why:
1. It's not a cash rebate, it's a rebate to be applied toward other Tranheuser-Busch products. Not as big a hit as cash
2. It is a cash rebate, but has a very high processing time - likely 6-8 weeks. They can book the sale and shore up the books and let the money come back off the books at a later date, hopefully after this all blows over and sales recover. It's a way to get a zero-interest loan from the public market and get *some* use out of beer that is going to have to be dumped anyway if they can't move it.

Posted by: Bulgaroctonus at May 18, 2023 09:25 AM (Mpg1P)

Oh, I know it was supposed to be serious. I'd like to do it over with proper casting, lighting, sets, SFX and script. But I don't have the talent or ability.

I do wish someone would write an in-depth book about Manos. I'd like to see one for It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, too.

he and directors from the 60s-70s like Lindsay Anderson, Ken Russel, Stanley Kubrick, Sam Peckinpah and a few others made movie going just plain fun.

Most of their movies couldn't be made today.

350 It's almost like leftists don't realize there are consequences to their decisions,

That is 100% accurate.

Most leftists REFUSE to associate who they vote for and the policies those people implement with the actual outcomes you see from those policies.

As an example, urban leftists will often blame republicans for street crime, litter, and urban blight...even if there city hasn't had a Republican office holder in generations.

BREAKING: 4 children who disappeared when their plane crashed in the Amazon jungle in Colombia on May 1 have been found alive. 3 adults found dead

More details: The survivors are 13, 9, 4 and a baby. They appear to have used sticks to make a shelter.

Earlier today, rescue workers found scissors and hair ties about 3 kilometers from the crash site, which gave hope that the children were still alive. They were found a few hours later.

It's just really interesting, because interest with Boorman vanishes after Hope and Glory. It just evaporates. I don't know if it was the reception of Where the Heart Is, or what, but he also changed how he made his movies.

1990 is also the year he divorced his first wife. I'm not sure how that interacts with it all.
