THE MORNING RANT: Can We Please Start Looking for Business & Political Leaders from Outside the Faux-Elite Bubble?

Elon Musk has chosen his new CEO at Twitter, and it looks like the era of free speech may have already run its course there.

His appointee, Linda Yaccarino, has previously worked for NBC and the World Economic Forum, and is an outspoken advocate for all the green-woke shibboleths.

In a moment I’ll expand on the idea that it is imperative to break the cycle of selecting business and political leaders from the same faux-elite circles that have produced our current crop of awful leaders, but first let’s take a look at Ms. Yaccarino’s beliefs.

She believes that a huge majority of people (she uses the term “consumers,” but every single person is a consumer) crave the globalist green agenda, including the racially balkanizing idea of DE&I (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.)

Yaccarino - 1.JPG

People with this belief system are the ones who applauded Bud Light for abandoning its traditional customer base to pursue the transgender demographic.

Musk states that he is passionate about free speech, even if Yaccarino isn’t, so no worries.

Yaccarino - 3 - Musk.JPG

Like all passionate leftists, we can expect Ms. Yaccarino to be comfortable with “free speech,” so long as it is not “offensive” speech, or “misinformation,” or any of the other buzzwords that corporate media censors have adopted.

Yaccarino - 2.JPG

I’ve never seen a single person with her belief system and resume who has any tolerance for free speech from those who disagree with those in that bubble.

Maybe she’s a unicorn and will actually tolerate free speech, but why seek out a person from that bubble? Doing so is like seeking out a mate who is not woke, while only dating those who shop at Whole Foods and listen to NPR.

There is a world outside the faux-elite bubble, and it is well past time that we look elsewhere for business leaders, politicians, and judges.

In addition to rejecting those from the media and Davos circles, it’s also time to start disregarding an Ivy League degree as a credential. (Or maybe we should start considering an Ivy League degree to be disqualifying.)

When AB InBev (Anheuser Busch) hired Alissa Heinerscheid as Bud Light’s Vice President of Marketing, they hired a person not yet 40 years old, with degrees from two different Ivy League schools (Wharton and Harvard.) With only that information, it would be safe to assume that she was not a drinker of Bud Light, and that she was contemptuous of the brand’s core customers. Unsurprisingly, she openly acknowledged her contempt for Bud Light’s customers in an interview before hiring Dylan Mulvaney to become a face of the product.

Why would InBev hire such a person? For the same reason Musk hired Yaccarino. Corporate America is seemingly not aware of any other talent pool, no matter how awful that “credentialed” talent pool is.

This applies to politics too. Eight of our nine Supreme Court justices have law degrees from either Harvard or Yale. How about having a Supreme Court justice with a law degree from Regents University, or maybe some double-directional state law school?

Even the Trump-DeSantis battle is an Ivy League matchup. Trump went to Wharton, and DeSantis went to Yale and Harvard. Of course, I’ll vote for whichever one of these guys gets the nomination, but can’t we please start finding leadership which hasn’t been immersed in Ivy League culture?

Now that I think about it, I do favor diversity. I want a country where our leadership is diverse and comes from the world of average Americans, where Ivy League degrees are rare, and where people rise in organizations based on their talent, not based on their connections or their exclusive degrees.

47 "Sustainability"? On Saturday night I got dragged into a small shop that trumpeted its "sustainable" products. I knew what I'd find, and I was right. $8 cat toys, $9 rubber soap dishes and travel-size "natural" shampoos, the words "Fair Trade" emblazoned everywhere, and -- the worst thing -- one window unit air conditioner set at 71 and laboring to cool three hot rooms full of people.

I wanted to say aloud, "Gee, I'd love to stay, but I have to get home to burn those tires in my back yard," or "You know, no matter how I drive I just can't get more than 15 miles per gallon in my SUV."

In the old days, an Ivy League degree credential could help a young man get in a door, but once he landed a job, he was expected to deliver real world results. The proof was in the pudding.

Nowadays, A). It doesn't matter how often these supposed "elites" fail, as they are always simply ASSUMED to be competent by virtue of their supposed credentials; B). under corporatism, most divisions within a company aren't supposed to be profitable anyway . . . especially if losses in some of the divisions allow the rent-seeking divisions to hugely profit; and C). A lot of "elites" now work in fields where no one has any idea of what success would look like, anyway.

79 Fifty years ago, people studying the United States commented that one of the unique things about the US was that you had many people from Ohio State and other "non-elite" schools in the ruling class, as opposed to other countries like Japan, where you basically had to have gone to the University of Tokyo; or England, where you had to have gone to Oxford/Cambridge; or France, where you had to have gone to one of the Grande écoles.

That's all gone now - the people in the American ruling class are now overwhelmingly drawn from a handful of schools. Worse, the admission departments of these schools are obviously imposing political litmus tests, and the whole school experience is geared to generating uniformity of thought.

That is what leads to things like the Bud Light fiasco - members of the elite care far more about the opinions of other members of the elite than they do about objective success. As long as you have elite support, you'll always be able to find another high-level job, no matter how badly you screw up.

I think this is where going back to the principle of Senators being appointed by the guv or state assembly might bring a better result.

The chance of someone chosen from a good state university more than likely rises as opposed to voting where out of state money can have a big influence.

Not perfect, but that's what I'd like to see.

87 We tried to have a non Ivy League SCJ but the Right had a hissy fit led by National Review. That candidate had more expertise in business law than any of the sitting justices and was an adamant pro lifer. She also had an under graduate degree in Mathematics so not your typical lawyer. This hissy fit was only saved by the fortune and luck of the replacement nominee being Alito.

And I would point out that this nominee would have been the only one in recent history that you could put the blame or credit directly on the President for the selection. All other nominees have been the recommendations from the various search committees and partisan groups. That's why I've never really faulted or given credit to GOP Presidents for their picks.

It's almost like finding conservative lawyers, most people in the legal profession are overwhelmingly liberal. That's why liberals never get "disappointed" with their judicial picks.

If you're running France, you're going to Sciences Po, etc. You'll see outsiders come in time and again - oftentimes successfully - but you'll either need to make a boatload of money on your own, or come from one of the Ivies to have a shot at running the USA.

In large part, this is probably true. Another part of it on the Twitter side is that it was probably a fairly difficult CEO hunt. Who is going to want that job? If you agree with the owner and run it according to his mandates, you become a pariah. If you don't, you'll be fired. The only play for people in those kinds of circles is to take the job, say you'll do what you're told, work against the boss and hope to be sly enough to survive doing it. A lot of people aren't going to want that job.

Unless, of course, the owner is lying about what he wants, or has been turned by the authorities into backing down because they threatened his other major businesses.

1. Musk is actually committed to free speech and if this chick starts reimposing "Twitter 1.0," he'll fire her or otherwise rein her in
2. Must was - or is now, following a change of some kind - lying about free speech and is willing to revert to Twitter 1.0 (or even desires it)

We will see. My bet is on door #2, and I strongly suspect it has to do with government risk. He has other major businesses and both of them have dependencies on the government - a government that, as we all know, is firmly opposed to free speech.

"Hearing the national anthem, it definitely hit different," Griner said. "It’s like when you go for the Olympics, you’re sitting there, about to get gold put on your neck, the flags are going up, and the anthem is playing, it just hits different.

"Being here today ... it means a lot."

169 Zeek Arkham @ZeekArkham
I’ve taken part in mass arrest situations.

The first thing I’d do, after an arrest, is pull that mask off. It’s for identification and safety purposes. I need to see whom I’m arresting and I can’t risk their airways being obstructed.

Also, if they weren’t identified yet, I wouldn’t have them so close to each other. Too much liability, including the possibility of a prisoner escaping.

None of this makes sense.

Also, if I’m arresting all of them and I don’t want them to run, they’d be sitting on their ass with their legs out in front of them, crossed.

The gloves would also be off. No way I could properly adjust a zip tie with their gloves on.

So much I could pick apart, which is ground ball stuff I learned in the academy.

I have questions…

You're asking a hiring manager to go out on a limb and hire someone who's non-Ivy. If their first choice fails, they can always fall back on saying "hey, I hired an Ivy grad. How can I have known that they were a dud." They wouldn't be able to fall back on that excuse for a non-Ivy.

186 There were no “fake” electors. There were contingent Republican electors named consistent with legal precedent to preserve the still ongoing legal challenges to the validity of Georgia’s certified vote.

Nor was appointing an alternative slate of electors some cockamamie plan devised by Trump lawyers. On the contrary, Trump’s election lawyers and the contingent electors followed the precise approach Democrats successfully used when the date Congress established for certifying an election came before the legal challenges John F. Kennedy had brought in Hawaii were decided. And that approach allowed Kennedy to be certified the winner of Hawaii’s three electoral votes on Jan. 6, 1961, even though the Aloha State had originally certified Richard Nixon the victor.

221 Never rely on a single outlet like Twitter to preserve your free speech rights. All of these outlets are subject to the same corruptions and subversions. The human element, frailty, biases and ultimately a desire for control can in an instant wipe out your liberty.

There's a difference between holding certain opinions and the truth of those views. In the past that was litigated through honest debate, demonstrably truthful exchanges and verifiable facts. But that is not the tactic of people such as Ms Yaccarino. They use their position to become authoritarian purveyors of cult dogma, subjecting any dissent to ridicule, coercion and censorship because the truth destroys their shibboleths and sacred cows. 262 Sharp piece.

"Elon Musk has chosen his new CEO at Twitter, and it looks like the era of free speech may have already run its course there."

I doubt there even was an era of free speech there. People on the fringes who did not advocate violence or even use incendiary language--all from the "Right"--have continued to be purged and banned from the time of Musk's acquisition to the present. He has brought on groups such as ADL, SPLC, American Progress and other leftwing organizations that are hostile to free speech as advisors. To my knowledge post-Musk Twitter never developed any objective criteria for what was allowed there. And on and on.

If you have any beliefs that deviate from leftwing orthodoxy, the best advice is to avoid social media altogether. Look at the obviously Deep State-directed "far Right" march through D.C. this weekend and ask yourself if the same totalitarian government that would stage such an event would hesitate to use even an anodyne social media posting as a pretext to destroy.

Do you read Reddit? It's fucking eye opening. Even in non-political related subs, it's almost all left wing stuff. For example, take a sub about something innocuous like photography. Someone posts a photo of a lake or something. Inevitably there will be a comment about how this lake will no longer be there for future generations because evil oil companies and Republicans are destroying the environment. And that gets 300 upvotes.

This way of thinking is embedded in young people. It's not even "political" to think this way for them. It just is. Like the sun coming up in the east, climate change is going to kill us all. There's no debate.

The spokesfeminist waxes on about about the "founding mothers" of brewing who are owed "homage" - but fails to acknowledge that brewing would have been food production and preparation and therefore "women's work" and that to pay "homage" to those "founding mothers" of brewing would require the perpetuation of the patriarchy...

Not really, immigrants behave in their self interest--that follows from lower caste Indians having very different interests than upper caste Indians. Upper caste Indians are interested in becoming part of the ruling class so they reflect that. In India, they would be huge supporters of the nationalist cause because that is where the prestige jobs and money are. Lower caste come here often because life in India sucks and has sucked for centuries because your life opportunities were affected by your birth.

Lesson is that do not expect other cultures to share your same values--those cultures affect what is valued and what is not and thus affect the self interest identification.

The point is that the people being selected now have demonstrated excellence in nothing. Given the choice, yes, I'd rather have someone who had spent a lifetime steeped in the law, and who understood why preserving the original intent was their job. Barring that, I'll take someone who has demonstrated excellence in SOMETHING.

As it is, we've got barely literate drones with a racial agenda.

With that comment, I think you hit on something funny. If they wanted to tick the DEI tickbox *and* sell to their existing customer base, they could have just had a couple of cute lesbians feature in some commercials.

It's not exactly something that drives young heterosexual men (their main target segment) away... but this, of course, would rely on having management that actually understood its target market and didn't think they could make just as much money by alienating all but less than 1% of the population, which in general doesn't drink mass-market beer.

Yep. And prior to Reagan, most of the justices had at least some political background and other life experiences than being a law monk.

Essentially, Ivy League plus Stanford (CA homer there) became the std. for Republicans under the well qualified rubric. As a result, they differ little in social life from their Democrat peers. Breyer was the most recent exception to the rule as he had a long history working for Senator Ted Kennedy in the legislative branch. Justice Souter was also an exception to the rule coming from NH state courts.

But, former senators, even a former president or a losing presidential candidate used to serve as SC justices.

394 359 The USSC predates the legal cartel of law schools, the bar exam, and the corporate ladder. The originals were presumed to have merit.
Posted by: Trump poisoned my cat

Meh, Scotus was always based on political criteria and never was really about legal excellence. The great John Marshall himself had a scanty legal education but was in the right place at the right time and was a convivial sort of guy that even coopted Jefferson's and Madison's appointees to the court.

The fact is that we only see the legal technocrat ideal begin to occur during the era of Reagan and that was a reaction to how the court became politicized during the Warren and subsequent Burger court. The GOP to win confirmation and block filibusters by Dems went to unquestioned legal credentials of Ivy league law schools, existing credentialed appeals court jurists, and diversity appointments. The Dems had been moving that way on their appointments since Clinton.

395 What a difference facing down a 9-year prison sentence in Russia makes:

Prior to the tip, Griner and her teammates stood for the national anthem, and the No. 1 pick of the 2013 WNBA Draft received a loud ovation from the home crowd as she was introduced.

"Hearing the national anthem, it definitely hit different," Griner said. "It’s like when you go for the Olympics, you’re sitting there, about to get gold put on your neck, the flags are going up, and the anthem is playing, it just hits different.

"Being here today ... it means a lot."

The need for a parallel economy is growing. They have weaseled into every existing institution, from the financial world on down, and have exerted control via lending requirements based on a form of social credit, and by packing HR departments full of Gender Studies majors.

We don't just need our own brands, we need our own stores, our own banks, etc. A complete parallel system.
