Masses of Illegal Aliens Begin Flooding Into Country; BORDER PATROL SETS UP A PICKET OF VANS TO BLOCK THE MEDIA FROM FILMING THE INVASION
Biden sent troops to the border. Don't worry -- they're not there to stop illegal aliens from coming in. They're there to do the administrative work of "processing" the illegals so that they can be let into the country.
They're also there to provide medical assistance to them. And food. Now, Biden sent these troops to the border to get the headline Biden sends troops to the border, to trick Americans into believing he's trying to keep illegals out, when in fact the troops are there to speed their entry into the US. The trouble is, the Fake News headline fooled the wrong people. Biden's leftwing base has been confused into thinking that these troops have been sent to the border to stop illegal aliens from coming in, rather than helping them "disappear into the shadows" of the US interior. And this is causing further erosion of Biden's support among progressive extremists. So what does Biden do? His handlers call up the leftwing Politico to get them to tell their leftwing audience, Don't worry, the troops are at the border only to Con the Rubes into believing we're trying to keep illegal aliens out, but really, they're there to help the illegal aliens illegally rush the border. (Link fixed.) Don't worry, leftwing extremists -- this border deployment is nothing like Trump's!LOL. The leftwing media is claiming the current border invasion is "not a crisis," too. It's never a crisis, because they all want this.
Biden's troop deployment to the border is different from Trump's From law enforcement duties to building barriers, the tasks will be different. Hundreds of active-duty U.S. troops are descending on the Mexican border this week, but they're not authorized to make arrests, use their weapons or do much more than administrative work. That's making the military deployment -- timed for the end of pandemic-era immigration restrictions -- a classic no-win political situation for the Biden administration, which is getting hit from at least one prominent Democrat for perpetuating Trump-era militarization of the border, and from Republicans who say the mission will be utterly ineffectual. Within President Joe Biden's party, Sen. Bob Menendez has been blasting Biden's move as "trying to score political points or intimidate migrants by sending the military" and catering to the GOP's "xenophobic attacks on our asylum system." Most Democratic congressional leaders have been muted in their reaction to the deployment, even though they were quick to criticize border deployments when Trump did it. Indeed, despite Biden's shift in tone on immigration from former President Donald Trump, he's kept some troops on the border since taking office in 2021. The 1,500 troops who began arriving this week are joining 2,500 National Guardsmen who have been there since last year. But there are key differences between this year's deployment and Trump's, from what the troops are allowed to do to the situation on the ground to the way Congress is approaching the question. Trump allowed active-duty troops to temporarily detain and search migrants. Soldiers laid hundreds of miles of concertina wire and erected temporary barriers while Trump funneled billions of dollars meant for military construction projects toward the wall. The troops headed to the border this week, on the other hand, will be armed only for self-defense and will carry out backroom tasks. What will that add up to? Not much, say Republicans. "I just think he should have secured the border months ago, and it's window dressing in my view," said Senate Armed Services Committee member Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska).
The former president's use of the military at the border was part of a broader anti-immigration push, which also included racially-charged travel bans, deportations and separating families. Trump sent thousands of active-duty and National Guard troops to the border through a series of deployments over the course of the spring and fall of 2018 to help repel a much-discussed caravan of immigrants from Central America. At the time, the numbers did not point to a crisis: In 2017, the number of undocumented immigrants caught at the border was the lowest since 1971, according to U.S. Border Patrol. And the caravan itself, which Trump suggested might include Middle Eastern terrorists, was part of what had become the normal annual seasonal uptick in Central American migrants making their way to the border.
Many observers at the time saw the deployments as politically motivated, designed to fire up the Republican base ahead of the midterm congressional elections.Well it was "politically motivated" in the sense that the people of the country are sick of mass illegal immigration and asked for their politicians to stop giving them the rope-a-dope and actually do something to stop it, and Trump attempted to satisfy the people's desire for a secure border.
How dare Trump use the military to prevent foreigners from entering the country en mass. As predicted, "migrants" -- as NBC calls illegal aliens violating the laws of the country -- began rushing the border at midnight, and are now scheming about what lies to tell to stay indefinitely.
Now, Biden is responding to the expected end of Title 42, which has allowed the U.S. to deny asylum and migration claims for public health reasons. Officials say the expiration of Title 42 on Thursday will prompt an influx of Central Americans into the U.S. ... Officials say they would have preferred to rely on law enforcement agents for the mission, but the Department of Homeland Security is short on people and money. So the administration is turning to what they have now, which is 1,500 active-duty troops.
"Military personnel will not be permitted to support migrant processing and escort duties or other activities that involve direct participation in civilian law enforcement activities, be responsible for property seized from migrants, or require direct contact with migrants," according to a statement from U.S. Northern Command. Instead, they will be performing administrative tasks such as data entry, warehousing, and additional detection and monitoring support to free up Border Patrol agents to deal with the migrants. They are joining 2,500 National Guard troops on active-duty status -- also subject to Posse Comitatus -- already doing similar work at the border since July 2022. By contrast, Trump granted active-duty troops the authority to protect law enforcement agents if they engaged in violence in November 2018, a controversial move that put the military in direct contact with migrants.

I agree, this is the only way anything changes - but we have to be honest about what the results will be - it will NOT wake a "slumbering and unfocused populace", not before it is far too late. What that will do is trigger a social and economic crisis that will result in the complete collapse of our economic system and all central governing authority, ushering in 10 - 20 years (or more) of what are usually called "the burning times". During that period, several successor states will probably coalesce around the stronger areas, such as Texas and Florida. But the United States, as we have known it, is dead. There will be no bringing it back.
I suppose this is why I have a hard time getting interested in any of the political maneuvering any more; it just doesn't matter. It's already too late.

There is only one way to deal with it that I can think of, and it will never ever happen. It will never happen both for ideological reasons and because of the comparisons to history such an approach would draw. Those comparisons are so powerful that I am loath to say it myself. But the only way I can think of is internment camps with special, accelerated courts.
Any illegal - regardless of where he is found or how long he's been here - is sent to an internment camp and processed through the court. If his asylum claim is somehow legitimate, he is given his papers and can walk out the door back into the country. If it isn't, he's deported back to somewhere in Latin America. Until the case is adjudicated, he stays in the camp where he is fed, sheltered, etc. at taxpayer expense.
At the scale we're dealing with, I don't see any other way.

The problem is there are people that benefit. Mostly elites and business interest, and they usually get what they want.
Throw in women with their natural bent towards being bleeding hearts on any sob story.
Then you have the easy "you hate brown people" charge that shuts everyone else up.
I still say the easiest thing is just to get a President willing to put our military down there and never let them leave. Better than guarding the DMZ for South Korea.

You used to see these obvious plants at every rally - brand new never-worn John Deere hat, and a Nazi flag so new that it still had creases from being taken out of the package. They were sent to mug for the cameras and try to portray the crowd as either racist (if not beaten down or thrown out), or violent (if beaten down or thrown out).
They always play these catch-22, "heads I win, tails you lose" kind of games. They even did the same thing with the organization, attempting to smear and demonize, even as they attempted to co-opt it back into the establishment (IE, when the "Taxed Enough Already" signs started appearing, attempting to divert the movement away from its focus on reckless spending.)

A ton of Haitian refugees were distributed throughout Latin America (a ton in Brazil, IIRC) after the earthquake. That was a temporary arrangement. Their refugee status expired. The Haitian refugees in Latin America then had to go home, which nobody would ever want to do. So with the choice of "go back to Haiti" or "try for America," they're all going with door number two.

There's no such thing as a job an American won't do, only a wage an American won't work for.
These migrants end up undercutting American workers in entire industries, which forces people to retrain (or go homeless), which creates more competition for work in other industries, which makes more people retrain...
It ends up having knock-on effects across the entire economy, debasing wages and negotiating power. These people also have to live somewhere, so they start renting out and buying up all of the cheapest properties. The demand drives prices in that segment up. Then the landlords with better properties see the low end catch up and realize they can charge more since theirs is better...
Even without the crime, we have lower wages and higher costs of living as a direct impact.
And these same fuckers have the unmitigated gall to say that they're for the workers!

It was not true when they said it. However, I have noticed since covid that there are a lot of stores who cannot stay open their normal hours because of staffing AND they have had a lot of staffing shortages in manufacturing in this area.
Now some of this has mitigated somewhat in the past few months (inflation, economy cooling, etc?) but it was definitely there for the years immediately after the lockdowns ended in this area. Anecdotal evidence is still evidence.

I work with developers and builders, you don't see any white people in trades anymore. Maybe 1% and they are old and are about to retire.
No young, white person wants anything to do with it. They want to spend $250k on college so they can be in a cubicle and pay it off for the rest of their lives.

There's a lot going on there. The bankruptcy of multiple big box stores in the US and Canada was partly the end result of these stores not being sustainable outside a zero-interest economy. Flagging revenue meant cutbacks to store hours, which meant even worse revenue. You have huge lobbying pressure to let in even more illegals for a variety of reasons. Terrible HR policies designed to focus on diversity instead of results.
So sure, there were and are vacancies, but a lot of that is due to a system in the throes of collapse. Hiring people for an hourly wage that can't get you a decent hamburger for lunch is no longer possible.

Exactly... My Husband was in construction and still has ties to the trades and they say they don't need unskilled labor.. They need people trained in the skill . I'm in NorCal and the pick up spots for day labor have tripled in the last few months...

Oh, I know it but that doesn't change anything. Last year Centerpoint energy was replacing all the gas lines in a part of town, and I had to speak to them about something where they were working. This is a major corp that should be paying union wages, mind you - and I had to go through a bunch of guys to find one that spoke any English at all. Son and Son-in-law both recently trained in HVAC/plumbing. Don't know if the guys installing solar panels a couple of houses over were white, but they spoke standard American English. Even in Houston at least some of the landscaping guys are white or black, although that definitely went up when Trump made it harder to get Guatemalan serfs for a while.

Also depends on the type of construction or trade. A lot of UNION and "professional" construction and trade jobs are still going to white and black Americans. That was always a patronage system to protect its own. It will take a while to break that wall down, but it will fall. But the lower-skilled, non-union jobs are heavily hispanic. Yeah its been mostly white guys working on the house here, some hispanic, no blacks so far, but they are a very small population in Oregon. Electricians, plumbers, landscapers, contractors, etc. Predominantly white. Yeah I could have gone down to Lowe's and hired a truck full of Mexicans to do the work, but this is mostly very skilled labor and I don't want to pay Guillermo and Pedro a case of Tecate to fix my wiring.

Who would secede and how? This ain't the 19th century. States may not be mere federal administrative districts, but they sure aren't states anymore and haven't been for a long time. Most residents don't have a genuine state identity; they don't see themselves as citizens of their state first and of the United States second. That's true even here in Texas, where we at least have some semblance of a state identity.

This is geographically specific. In Texas or California white people don't do anything. Whether because they don't want to or they can't, who knows? But don't assume the entire country is like that. It's not. Take a trip to places like Montana or Wyoming or the Dakotas and you'll see all sorts of white people doing all sorts of jobs Americans supposedly don't do.

I don't just mean inflation, although that plays a big part these days -- it was high back then, too. I mean just overall how expensive it is to simply live these days. Part of it is voluntary (internet, streaming, phone, coffee-flavored milk shakes, gaming consoles, etc) but there's higher expense everywhere in taxation and regulations that drive up costs personally and in business.

People keep assuming that a modern succession would look and play out like the American Civil War in the 1860s. Instead our red states should gradually decouple themselves from the federal system not with one comprehensive declaration but step by incremental step. The blue states have shown us the way by ignoring federal laws they don’t like such as immigration and drug laws (by creating sanctuary policies and legalizing pot, for example). Already some county sheriffs have announced they won’t confiscate guns from law-abiding citizens if ordered to do so.
The red border states need to implement their own border policies by declaring it an invasion, and setting up their own barriers and deporting illegals without going through the feds. Sure they’ll scream about it, but this is an existential crisis and we can’t let the radicals bring down our red states the way they’re doing to our federal government.

I think secession is already happening except that the process this time is much slower. There is a core of states that are passing laws that are contrary to what DC desires. Next we'll see the transition to nullification, and then an understood secession from the fed.
It's not going to be an overnight thing like it was before the Civil War.

That is a good point, I cannot find it now but I read an extremely good article which proved that the Declaration of Independence is just as binding a US founding document as the constitution -- that it is, effectively, part of the national policy and law.
And that clearly states that if a government is tyrannical and abusive, that the people have not just the option, but the duty to withdraw from that government.

I think secession falls under "individual states are not allowed to make a treaty" clause. (going from memory and, well, that's not so good these days.)
Regardless, anyone who thinks we're still operating under a functioning Constitutional government needs to think again. The Constitution, which is a contract between our government and its citizens has been broken, by those who are charged with maintaining that contract, rendering that contract null and void.

The Articles of Confederation specified they couldn't. It wasn't spelled out in the Constitution but there's kind of a standing assumption for countries that regions don't get automatic independence if they desire it.
Not accounting for a President's death is a bit more of a miss, but the former is sufficiently normative and more or less self-enforcing to begin with. Nobody had to tell the King of England he needed to fight the Revolutionaries or tell the Revolutionaries they needed to fight the British army, they both knew.

That's what makes secession legal, in theory. A seceding state should (operative word here) only need to point out the US Government's failure to abide by its own Constitution and other laws, and using that as its reasoning, withdraw its recognition of the Federal Government.
The biggest constitutional absurdity is the one surrounding the 10th Amendment. Everywhere else in law, an amendment supersedes core text. We are told that the Interstate Commerce Clause and General Welfare Clause - both pieces of core text - constrain the amendment. It's absurd.
