THE MORNING RANT: Prohibition II Is Drawing Nearer, This Time Globally, and Brought to You By the Usual Cast of “Experts”

At the peak of Covid hysteria in 2020 I wrote a piece (“The Response to Covid Has Set the Stage for a New Prohibition”) predicting that the globalist ruling class would eventually set their sights on alcohol. Public heath and survival of the planet would be found incompatible with alcohol production and consumption.

It’s happening.

The World Health Organization is now advocating for zero alcohol consumption. “No Level of Alcohol Consumption Is Safe For Our Health.”

As I recall, the W.H.O.’s experts were deeply involved in pushing Covid sharia, with great success.

WHO - No Safe Level of Alcohol Consumption.JPG

Up in Canada, the government of Justin Trudeau has already decided that the ideal amount of alcohol consumption is “none,” and that if you must drink, then two drinks per week should be your limit. Having watched his administration smother such basic freedoms as worship, assembly, transportation, and banking, prohibition of alcohol would be just another day in the week for Trudeau.

What's Behind Canada's Drastic New Alcohol Guidance [BBC – 01/18/2023]

In Canada, it should be Dry January all year round, according to new national recommendations that say zero alcohol is the only risk-free approach.

"The main message from this new guidance is that any amount of alcohol is not good for your health," said Erin Hobin, a senior scientist with Public Health Ontario and a member of the expert panel that developed the guidelines. "And if you drink, less is better."

Since 2020, globalists have become even more emboldened in the ways they seek to make life miserable for the non-elite. If they’ll ban meat and fossil fuels, they’ll have no problem banning the use of grain for the production of beer and spirits.

Here is some of what I wrote back in 2020:

Get ready folks. It may not be in 2021 or even 2022, but when Prohibition II comes barreling at us, it will come fast, and a majority of people will quickly and willingly submit. Remember, we went from zero to Covid-sharia in a matter of weeks.

If epidemiologists and the CDC were to recommend prohibition, who could say no? If Anthony Fauci stated that prohibition would reduce the number of alcohol-related deaths per year, it would be a “scientific fact” that prohibition is necessary. When he said the entire economy must be shut down, it was taken as the word of God. What difference if he or one of his successors simply declares that wineries, breweries and distilleries must be shut down due to the public health crisis?

There are more than 10,000 alcohol-related traffic fatalities per year – including 200 children. Employing the PHD-level modeling used by Dr. Fauci, this could be reduced to zero with prohibition. Only a monster would choose a glass of wine over 200 children’s lives, right? With a couple of executive orders from our mayors and governors, no child will ever die again in a drunk driving accident. Covid experts taught me that this is logical.

As we learned from Covid emergency orders, if the CDC / epidemiologists were to recommend prohibition, no law would even need to be passed. Prohibition is no further away than an “emergency” executive order from your elected officials. Would Gavin Newsom or Andrew Cuomo suspend all alcohol production and sales if there was a left-wing and media drumbeat to do so? In a heartbeat. Look at how they shut down all bars, schools, and restaurants.

But wasn’t prohibition already tried unsuccessfully? Remember, “true prohibition” has never been tried. If you get the whole world on board, then hooch can’t get smuggled in from outside the US. And the whole world climbed on board the Covid shutdown. Is global prohibition possible? Think of what is being asked for in the global warming accords - Europeans (as well as our own Democrats) are in favor of banning all forms of electricity production that make our current standard of living possible. Making the masses give up alcohol is a minor sacrifice compared to what has already been endorsed.

There is every reason to believe that teetotaling will become just as virtuous as mask wearing. And frankly, for the large majority of folks who aren’t dependent on alcohol, giving it up is less of a burden than wearing a sweaty, steamy mask all day. Smokers were once a majority of Americans. Now they are outcasts. Drinkers may soon find themselves similarly shamed.

The mob can be motivated quickly when it has a new crusade. Do you remember how fast your leftist friends went from casually using plastic straws to declaring that plastic straws are environmental bio-hazards that will destroy all life on earth if they aren’t outlawed immediately? That passion can be steered toward alcohol.

And speaking of the environment, all that acreage devoted to barley farming and vineyards– which doesn’t even feed people – is a waste of resources, right? When you add in the fertilizers, pesticides, and draining of underground aquifers – your alcohol habit is literally killing the planet. Or so you’ll soon be hearing.

Let’s not forget how racist alcohol consumption is. Your single malt whiskeys and IPAs are white privilege. Also, selling cheap rotgut to minorities is exploitation. Only a racist could oppose prohibition.

When alcohol is declared a public health crisis, Americans will just submit to prohibition rather than be seen as bad citizens. Corporations will jump on the bandwagon if that is where the SJW-train they are riding takes them. Abstinence will actually seem appropriate since any pleasures in life are now frowned upon in “these unprecedented times.”

Don’t misunderstand, I strongly oppose prohibition. But don’t be surprised when it is quickly imposed on a populace softened by Covid-compliance and obedient submission to “experts.”

Since I wrote that piece, the war on simple human comforts has intensified. Europeans have started banning fertilizer and waging war on agriculture, bug-eating for protein is being mainstreamed in the media, car bans are being implemented in “15 minute cities,” gas stoves and furnaces are being banned, and so much more.

Prohibition is inevitable, and our “expert” class is already advancing it. Cheers!

The long history of human civilization indicates otherwise. In fact, the most successful civilizations are built out of drinking cultures. There is a reason for that, and it has everything to do with health.

If these idiots would cast their minds back to, say, the entirely of human history prior to about 1800, they would learn that alcohol kept us alive. Alcohol is clean, and safe to drink. That is fairly important when you live with animals, especially in urban environments - and if you're from a successful civilization that was able to exploit animals, you did.

Now in the modern world with excellent sanitation and where animals don't live with us in our cities and so we're not drinking their shit, it is no longer a survival benefit to be able to have alcohol. Is alcohol bad for you? Yes. Are those downsides better than unchecked disease? Absolutely. Does that matter in today's world? Not so much. Is the WHO the master of my life? Fuck no.

Alcohol is bad, but it's perfectly fine to have as many dispensaries as there are Tim Hortons and Starbucks, and for people to live their lives drenched in THC. There are a number of people living near me who are always high - they never come down.

Smoking stank-ass weed without a filter can't possibly be worse than a few glasses of wine, though.

To be clear I don't disagree. But fear is powerful, as is social pressure, as is the Voice of Authority. Plus I believed at the time certain techniques were specifically deployed that were known to be effective at controlling and motivating mass populations.

How does a criminal get someone to go with them to a "second location" where they will undoubtedly be alone, tortured and killed? At best? Fear.

At the start, people were somewhat rational to believe a Chinese Lab Virus was shit to be frightended of. Worse, the media and local officials were used to shame and silence any dissent or alternate opinions, in the name of Science and Morality, leaving many to hear only the message of the man with the gun forcing everyone into the van. From there it was pure incrementalism, a ratchet only turning in one direction.

It does, but that's probably the least of it. The entire global economy is geared to depend on transportation. Transportation is one of the three pillars of modern civilization:
1. Sanitation

They're trying to cut down the third pillar as such and they're working on cutting down all three through energy policy (all three are heavily energy-dependent, and requires great gobs of power to work at all).

They sort of do this in PA (or they did, last time I was there about 15 years ago). You can only buy up to a 12-pack at the state store. If you want more than that, you have to have a different transaction. I walked up with two 12s (well, a single 24 that they cut in half and taped across because of course they did) and the clerk wouldn't sell them to me. I had to buy one, then leave the store and put it in the car, and then come back and perform another transaction to get the second one.

By 1770, Americans consumed alcohol routinely with every meal. Many people began the day with an ‘eye opener’ and closed it with a nightcap. People of all ages drank, including toddlers, who finished off the heavily sugared portion at the bottom of a parent’s mug of rum toddy. Each person consumed about three and a half gallons of alcohol per year.

About 50% higher than todays average.

266 By 1770, Americans consumed alcohol routinely with every meal.

Oh yes. Alcohol has a practical purpose (sanitation) and so does coffee (energy and focus) but both also have at least equally-important social aspects. They are both social lubricants and encourage socializing. That is absolutely a reason for all this talk about prohibition.

You will not socialize or have outside of *large* groups (ball games, movies, amusement parks, etc.) in government-approved ways.

"How long has it been since you quit drinking?" And Dad replied, 8, maybe 9 years. And the family doc said "You might want to consider starting again". I think it was two-fold. Putin had two "red lines." First was "no more eastward expansion of NATO." He enforced that one in Georgia at the tail end of the Bush 43 administration.

After our first color revolution in Ukraine, he added the second: no more color revolutions in what I consider to be my sphere of influence. We did the second one in Ukraine, and he took Crimea as a consequence.

In 2021, we violated both red lines. There was what appears to be a failed color revolution in Kazakhstan (Russia invaded to suppress it) and at the same time, Lloyd Austin started publicly speaking about NATO's "open door policy" with regard to Ukraine. Both, in the space of a couple of months.

Whether Putin is entitled to carve out a sphere of influence is somewhat beside the point. He thinks he is, and he defined the terms of what he found unacceptable in that sphere. We violated both of those terms. It was absolutely a provocation.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at May 12, 2023 11:52 AM (DU+/6)

357 The 14th needs to be rewritten and probably broken up into multiple ones. The wording is extremely problematic. The 20th is just clarifying and making sure the constitution is clear, because it was a somewhat amusing lack of clarity on the succession of presidency.

The 22nd and 25th amendments are good too, preventing imperial presidencies. The 24th eliminates poll taxes which was necessary because dumbasses in states were trying to prevent blacks from voting by requiring payment.

I like the 27th amendment but it was the wrong approach. Instead of making congress only get a raise in the next congress, they should have denied congress the ability to raise their own wages. How is that ever going to not pass?? If you cannot get 51% of a body to not vote its self a raise, you have discovered a body of saints.

That is debatable. Russia is an autocracy and has massive systematic corruption problems as a result. Similar to most of that area of the world. Ukraine beats them in corruption but that is probably due to the weaker state control over its oligarchs.

So, in an autocracy, you are less likely to get idiotic social movements because their leaders are promptly arrested and put in jail. But, you are likely to get massive corruption throughout government and if you dare to speak out about it, you end up in jail or worse too.

I agree with most everything you said and have been saying it for over a year now. Couple of additions, at the 2008 Bucharest NATO summit Bush announced that we were considering Georgia and Ukraine for NATO membership. He was specific. And then Putin answered by invading Georgia.

As to Kazakhstan it was a color revolution and not only did Putin stop it he came out and said in plain language he would not allow any new color revolutions in former Soviet states.

396 We violated both of those terms. It was absolutely a provocation.

... I understand what you're trying to say, but I think that the world cannot be held hostage by a nation's paranoia and stupidity. That he VIEWED it as a provocation does not mean that it was reasonably and objectively so. If Putin wants to snowflake out does not mean that it was a reasonable response.

1. This is a rumor and it won't happen
2. It will happen, and Musk will rein her in or fire her if she steps off the path and tries to return to Twitter 1.0
2. Musk is no longer - or never actually was - what he says he is, and Twitter 2.0 was an elaborate game for some other purpose

I guess we'll find out.

I thought Musk has already commented that this is the path, 2.0 is staying and freedom reigns.

I pick door 3.

399 So, in an autocracy, you are less likely to get idiotic social movements because their leaders are promptly arrested and put in jail. But, you are likely to get massive corruption throughout government and if you dare to speak out about it, you end up in jail or worse too.

406 Bullshit desk jobs for officers to paper their promotion files.

That's what it ultimately became and maybe was always meant to be, but the stated reason for NATO's existence was to protect countries from Russian aggression and invasion. Then Russia proved the point by invading.

The entire "oh, we did it, we made this happen" is nonsensical. We didn't make jack happen. Putin made it happen because he's as paranoid as most Russians and just wanted a chunk of Ukraine and to cow it into submission and Soviet-like satellite status.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at May 12, 2023 12:03 PM (0hOvj)

407 Maybe. But absent a provocation, I doubt it would have happened. But the cash pouring in thanks to Biden's energy policy in combination with those provocations probably made it a lot more likely.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at May 12, 2023 11:59 AM (DU+/6)

The 1990s was the provocation. That is what the Russians have been saying all along.

The neocons are explicitly trying to end Russian existence. And have been since the 1990s.

There, I actually do disagree with you. Major powers have different privileges than smaller powers. Major powers *always* carve out buffer zones and set terms at the regional level. We did it with the Monroe Doctrine. We still do. Russia does. China does. India does.

Is it fair to the smaller countries? No. Is it the political reality when you're near - but not part of - a major power? Yes. It always has been. If Putin is not entitled to declare that the interests of Russia extend to some degree over his neighbors, then neither are we. The Monroe Doctrine and our long history of military engagement in Latin America is just as indefensible.

It ain't nice, and it ain't fair. But it is the way it works for minor states in the neighborhood of a major one.

417 Take the alcohol, follow the $$$ & control over adult lives. Also, as cannabis becomes widely legal internationally, pressure on banking services wane.

Canada: The Cannabis Act creates a strict legal framework for controlling the production, distribution, sale and possession of cannabis across Canada. The Act aims to (allegedly) accomplish 3 goals: keep cannabis out of the hands of youth, keep profits out of the pockets of criminals, protect public health and safety by allowing adults access to legal cannabis.

Safer than alcohol? IDK. Probably not, but it seems as an unknown for now, even given potential for lung, fetal & psychotic illness issues.

Restricting/removing alcohol lessens liver, colon, neck, head cancers; alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis, chronic pancreatitis; cardiac disease, stroke; weakened immune systems in some people; fetal alcohol syndrome, and more. Money saved > if not pocketed, then into other federally controlled healthcare programs.

426 The World Health Organization is now advocating for zero alcohol consumption. “No Level of Alcohol Consumption Is Safe For Our Health.”

This is part of the reason I am not in favor of boycotting Bud Light. I know why people are doing it... to try to make Anheuser Busch stop promoting gender dysphoria. But I see the boycott as the wrong strategy. What the Marxist Left is doing is injecting corporations and institutions with a virus. The woke mind virus. The way to defeat that is to eliminate the virus, not the host (corporation/institution).

But the Right is killing the host... to the utter delight of the Marxist Left. Because the Marxist Left does not care about any of the corporations or institutions they are destroying, with the help of the Right. The Marxist Left targeted the corporations/institutions specifically to destroy them. Either by taking them over with the woke mind virus and using them for propaganda or allowing them to be destroyed through lack of support from American customers.

When a patient gets cancer, you don't kill the patient. You kill the cancer and treat/save the patient. Same applies with the woke mind virus infection.
