Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Washington Post: Fox Has Lost NEARLY HALF of Its Viewers Overall Since Rupert Murdoch Made the Vanity-Driven, Cvck-Panic Decision to Fire Tucker CarlsonI won't quote the Washington Post, but I'll tell you who will: Breitbart, that's who. Ratings for Fox News have dropped considerably in the wake of popular anchor Tucker Carlson departing from the network. During its 8 p.m. hour, the network has dropped from a three million viewer average to a 1.65 million viewer average since the departure of Tucker Carlson; the hour was previously filled by Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade, which will then be filled by Fox News personality Lawrence Jones. Per the Washington Post:Brutal. The disparity was most stark on Wednesday, when Kilmeade's 8 p.m. hour received an average of 1.3 million total viewers, compared with the 3 million Carlson received a week earlier -- a decline of 56 percent. Overall, the network experienced a 45 percent viewership decline last week without Carlson in the host's chair. Beyond the 8 p.m. slot, the network has also seen a sharp decline in the 25-54 demographic in the 6 p.m., 7 p.m., and 9 p.m. time slots.Fox News whistled a lively PR tune as it passed the graveyard. Apparently not trusted by Rupert Murdoch, though. Per Megyn Kelly, the 8pm slot has lost 47% of its viewers, and 59% of its demo viewers. Hannity is down 39% in the demo, 23% overall. Ingraham is down 24% in the demo, "almost 20%" in overall viewers. Kelly says "panic is setting in." She says that once Fox loses to CNN and MSNBC for a full month, that will be the end of Fox. She also suggests that anyone who wants to support Tucker should... and I don't know if I'd go this far... put the TV on CNN or MSNBC and just put it on mute. Come on, Fox. Install Trey Gowdy as the 8pm host. You know you want to. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Now that Tucker's gone, the rest of the prime-time talent has a choice to make. Do you quit, knowing that if they can get rid of the #1 talent nobody's safe?
Or, do you adjust your programming to capture the audience that Tucker had, in an attempt to boost your ratings? If you're Laura Ingraham, for instance, and you've done neither of those things, are you still relevant at all? Posted by: Darrell Harris at May 04, 2023 04:41 PM (/iWhV) 57
I am not so sure that Tucker was so important to Fox, but the fact that Fox would fire him out of the blue when he was doing really interesting reporting, and then gathering up and releasing smear material is.

The company said in a statement this week that the network will continue delivering the cable news coverage that has made it a ratings powerhouse in recent years.
++++ Nope. Completely wrong. It was *never* FNC's news coverage that made it a powerhouse. FNC's news division is largely middle-of-the-road pap. It isn't *usually* the hard-left screeching one finds on MSNBC, but it also isn't conservative. It isn't really anything. Relatively few people really cared about FNC's news division. It was FNC's *commentary* division that made it a powerhouse - the primetime editorial shows. And those were anchored by one man: Tucker Carlson. Hannity fell years ago. Ingraham was never a powerhouse brand. Gutfeld is well-liked enough, but he was riding Carlson's coattails. The morning programs were even worse, carried by the occasional conservative like Bongino. FNC's status had nothing to do with news and everything to do with editorials. And they wrecked that. I don't think they expected this outcome, either. I think they expected modest declines, not an outright collapse. Serves them right for misunderstanding their own value proposition. No comment as to who should take the 8 pm time. Because I don't care; Fox is Dead to me, so it matters not which Pinnochio they use to dance to the strings.
/break Here's how Tucker can maximize his media presence, and NOT violate what remains of his contract with Fox. Select five of the top-rated Conservative Hosts on other channels, or in other media. Levin, Kelly, who else? Let Tucker rotate amongst 'em as a Guest, and they can long-form "interview" Tucker, (while really giving him half or more of their showtime). No one host gives up TOO much of their own precious face-time, but Tucker is somewhere, on some channel, every single week until freed from his Fox commitments. This will SKYROCKET each hosts ratings in the week that Tucker is their Guest. Keeps Tucker's visibility high, in touch with current events, and etc. And I doubt seriously that Fox's contract prohibits him from being a "Guest" on other shows, just so long as he doesn't sit on the other side of that host's desk. More Tucker = More tears at Fox. What's not to love? Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at May 04, 2023 04:43 PM (e6UQI) 67

Posted by: Marcus T In theory, Wall Street money could prop up Fox's short-term revenue. But they have two problems, likely to come up soon: - Tucker Carlson is going to compete with them for 2024, and likely submerge all of Fox's lesser lights. - Wall Street is pulling money away from Outer Party concerns like Facebook and BB&B. They don't want to subsidize Ingraham to that extent, and even if they did the money will be needed for more vital purposes very soon. Posted by: trev006 at May 04, 2023 04:49 PM (78UcJ) 92

Politics and news are over. They're only for apparatchiks now, and year-over-year-over-year audience losses in all news outlets, big and small, reflect that. This shit is the past.
Nobody cares about stuff they can't change except insofar as to prepare for it. Finding out about the daily Party line is just like checking the weather or sports scores. Fewer every year are intellectually, morally or emotionally invested in it. Carlos Slim propped up the Times, as Bezos did with the Post, and Paul Singer did with Twitter before the Musk takeover. The Bulwark has Omidyar, and the Dispatch has Crow. Most of the Party and State TV channels will find similar billionaires or hedge funds to prop them up when their time comes. Which is soon. But I think Fox is fucked if the Murdoch's get tired of flushing money into it. I think they'll be left to learn to code. After learning to tie their own shoes, of course.
Posted by: Jim at May 04, 2023 04:43 PM (e6UQI) Tucker's not going to boost others just to stay in the spotlight, much less risk his contract at all. I haven't read his contract, so I can't say what he's going to do. The most certain solution is this: ask for a few hundred million from an investor. Promise all of it back, plus dividends, after a set period. Expand, but not so aggressively that you need more money and stricter conditions. Take money that an investor can pull out at any time, and you're setting yourself up for betrayal like Milo did. Besides which, if he has any sense Tucker is not interested in working for billionaires. They're all under too much pressure to crush him, and he'd much rather keep all the money and especially control of Tucker Nation. Posted by: trev006 at May 04, 2023 04:55 PM (78UcJ) 124

And then we can watch the SEC do nothing about it, which will also be educational. At about 35 minutes into America Reports broadcast Fox spent about 15 seconds on the Proud Boy convictions and then immediately cut to Ed Sheeran speaking live about his case. This is after spending the first 15 minutes of the broadcast on Sheeran.
The only reason I watched Fox News consistently was because of Tucker Carlson. Over the years he proved himself to be the most honest voice on the network and provided a non-corporate view into the world. If he had been a little more liberal or a little more conservative wouldn't have mattered. It was the honesty of the voice that counted. Fox News, with total hubris, deluded themselves into thinking they made Tucker Carlson when they were nothing more than David French in pastel dresses. And the leaks from Fox News to smear Tucker Carlson ,the ones where he goes all potty mouth and flips the bird has spectacularly backfired. I love him more than I did before. The era of Fox pretending to be the fair and balanced conservative news organization have been buried ten feet deep beneath the manure of the new "Its not News. Its Fox Entertainment News" era. Fox was told to destroy their company so that those that run the country behind the scenes can keep on running it against the will of the people, while trying to get the crime family that is embarrassing them out of the picture.
At the rate the country is collapsing, the best way to get the corruptocrat out of office before he destroys the whole shebang is to admit the election was stolen. Posted by: Thomas Paine at May 04, 2023 05:02 PM (lTGtQ) 172

Tucker was a scalp the left really wanted. He was too much of a truth teller who uncovered their lies and schemes in a material, intellectual way that a lot of people could relate to. He didn't adhere tp any shibboleths and equally despised the dishonesty and inbred nature of Washington proper. You can't have the number one show telling truths and exposing your lies. It destroys your attempts at corruption, coercion and malfeasance.
That's why they went after him. Night after night he delivered the honest truth and any factual conversation would bear that out. It's why you should really despise Murdoch and Fox as an organization. What they ultimately did was surrender to those nefarious forces. They aren't you friends, they are just another coward. Right now online they have a story of police releasing a photo of a person of interest in the death of a woman. What do we see? A picture of some good looking blonde. We here in the moronosphere are more maximum conservatives than most people. We see Fox news as a channel that sold itself as right of center and has drifted way to far left for our tastes.
Most people watch fox and see balance. They poke Republicans and demoncrat both. That's why dems, pubs, and indy all watch Fox. Tucker and others who are telling the factual truth are the most popular shows. This should mean something to Fox. It should tell them something. They don't want to hear it. First question I have about her: but she go shoot fucking guns with Kid Rock? Great host for media shows that are on every single day. Have a profound gift to never wear out their welcome. Rush Limbaugh did that for 30 years, 4 hours a day and he only became stronger over the years. Tucker managed to pulled off the same bit of magic in the few years he was at Fox News. Jay Leno in his own way over the years did exactly the same thing. Common thread between them all? They were honest to themselves, honest to their audiences, and we're able to do it daily with grace and humor. I have watched Kayleigh McEnany on Fox off and on since she came to the network. But if you're looking for *most* of a cable replacement delivered over the internet, there's a better option: Philo. Philo is a cable-like service and is essentially a mid-tier cable package. The wrinkle is that it's a mid-tier cable package *without* sports, news or local channels. It's exclusively the entertainment channels. As a result, it costs less than half as much (about $25/month, I think).

Sure, someone does, but I doubt that is in the ratings. Rating are big business and Nielsen has the market because they claim to be unbiased. It is just like political polling where if you only monitor people with networked TVs you are not getting a valid count. ...
Posted by: Gentlemen, this is junta manifest at May 04, 2023 05:17 PM (DM3oU) ++++ Depends on the platform. DirecTV Stream - at least back when I used it, which was when it was called "DirecTV NOW" and then "ATT TV NOW" - it had an opt-in/opt-out to Nielsen measurement in the app settings. That was a full cable-replacement service, though, so still in what Nielsen typically looks at. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at May 04, 2023 05:19 PM (O4oKn) 253

It is unfair to pull Rush into any question of talent as no one was ever even close. A one of one. I loved his brief Fox TV show, too. Maybe part of my listening pleasure was imagining his visual presence when listening to his radio show. That was available when the ditto-cam was operative but I never did see any of that except when used in other tv pieces they'd show the video to go along with his timbrous voice. Kevin McC woos one time critic with 1/6 tapes, says each person who viewed TuCa's presentation can come up with their own opinions, and he didn't see what was aired.
He also pledges his continuing support for Ukraine, AGAIN. Military Times reports, also 2 days ago, "The U.S. is sending Ukraine about $300 million in additional military aid, including an enormous amount of artillery rounds, howitzers, air-to-ground rockets and ammunition as the launch of a spring offensive against Russian forces approaches, U.S. officials said Tuesday." Proud Boys Convicted of "Seditious Conspiracy" By Trump-Hanging Jury. And who's name came up in the trial? The same James Ray Epps, Sr. who wants a public apology from TuCa for false & defamatory statements. TuCa was setup. Why not kick Sean in the butt over PDT & how did he get to redemption on FOXNews? Why hasn't TuCa been freed from his last negotiated contract, '21? More negotiations. And if he's off contract and on his own, what's his liability? TuCa's a sacrifice as was Bud Light. I adore him but... And WaPo will be on top once more. PS - A lawsuit can also proceed against Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse. Neither was Nixon, but Gerald Ford pardoned him and it held up.
Even if you want to go down the road of "because the pardon would be ignored!" at least make them work for it and try. Posted by: Blago at May 04, 2023 05:21 PM (T4fo0) The Ford pardon worked because Ford wasn't an outgoing President, and there was no way the Rats could force him out without reneging on whatever agreement they made. Besides which, if the Rats insisted on prosecuting Nixon beyond the resignation, people might have realized exactly how weak the Nixon case was. Now, the January 6th cases are even weaker, particularly after the George Floyd riots. But that doesn't matter to the lawless cosmopolitans behind the Bloomberg/ Garland DoJ. Some partisans insists Trump should have funded patriot legal defenses- which would obliterate the "Orange Man Hoodwinked Us!" defense a lot of those poor people actually used. The "just try and see what works" play is how you get Disney easily sidestepping the clumsy maneuvers. None of that is going to matter, though. Pence is going to point out what a shameless latecomer RDS is to the issue. I don't think DeSantis will ever get above 25% of the primary vote. Posted by: trev006 at May 04, 2023 05:33 PM (78UcJ) 334
And yet he seems to have the time and energy to pardon 'Lil Wayne and Kodak Black while President. But not people that protested on behalf of him and were being rounded up?
Yes. Exactly so. Because 'Lil Wayne or whoever Kodak Black is are celebrities. Donald Trump, when push comes to shove, is as arrogant as any other New York City celebrity. He respects his own kind. All those folks at J6 ? Faceless. Nameless. He doesn't know them, because they literally have no name to him.
