Child Actor Matthew Lawrence Says That a Director Offered Him a Role in a Marvel Movie... If He Took Off His Shirt and "Did XYZ"

Marvel movie, eh? What Marvel franchise has a lot of roles open, and also needs a lot of young actors to play those roles?

I'm thinking the X in XYZ maybe stood for "X-Men."

Lawrence says further that he was fired from his talent agency for refusing to strip for this director.

Matthew Lawrence is opening up about a horrible experience that involved an Oscar-winning film director.

During the latest episode of his Brotherly Love podcast, Lawrence recalled being offered a role at a Marvel production but only if he stripped.

"There's been many times in my life where I've been propositioned to get a huge role," Lawrence said. "I've lost my agency because I went to the hotel room, which I can't believe they would send me to, of a very prominent Oscar award-winning director who showed up in his robe, asked me to take my clothes off and said he needed to take Polaroids of me."

I kinda-sorta understand why you'd want to see someone's physique for a superhero movie. Or any movie where the person would be playing a heroic role.

But... this doesn't seem professional. It seems like you'd say "Okay we're going to need a physique test (or whatever), it'll just be me and the cameraman present."

Asking someone to take off his clothes, while alone with him, and snapping pics with the amateur pornographer's camera of choice, the Polaroid, seems very sketchy.

And what does "do XYZ" mean?

Lawrence added, "And then if I did X, Y and Z, I would be the next Marvel character. I didn't do that, and my agency fired me because I left this director's room."

The actor didn't reveal any names or give dates on when this encounter happened. Lawrence also mentioned the double standard that exists when male actors talk about sexual harassment versus female actors.

A lot of people are going to think Bryan Singer, who has had a lot of allegations thrown at him, including pressuring a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old to shower naked for Apt Pupil. He was recently, belatedly cancelled by Hollywood.

But unless I'm missing it, he never won an Oscar. Though I can easily see someone thinking he did; he got a lot of attention for Apt Pupil, and Christopher McQuarrie won a Screenwriting Oscar for The Usual Suspects.

Speaking of child actors being forced into unpleasant scenarios:

The CBC calls this "pointless." It also say that this time, it's told from Wendy' point of view.

It was always told from Wendy's point of view, cuz.

But this time, This Princess Saves Herself! (Snap!)

16 The key takeaway here is that the creation of blackmail has to be voluntary on the part of the "victim".

That's what makes it Satanic.

The blackmail regime we all see and are outraged by exists. But it is mostly voluntary. Not all. But the vast overwhelming majority of it is.

Game out controlling a voluntary vs non-voluntary balckmail ring. Which is easier?

It was actually on the TV in the restaurant where I ate lunch today. I didn't pay a lot of attention to it, but I got the impression that Jude Law's Captain Hook is supposed to be a....semi-sympathetic villain? Or at least that Peter Pan's own hands aren't clean in that conflict. Or something.

Look at the live-action remakes of beloved animated movies. I think (it's been a while since I dug through the numbers, but this might have changed) the only one to get less than an 80% was Dumbo, which was something like 45%.

Why? Why would Disney let this happen?

Because Disney realized too late that Tim Burton made a movie about how awful Disney was, and they let it die.

Didn't Newsoms wife get harassed by Weinstein and then go alone to gus hotel room for an interview or was that another 15-20 actresses? that was probably the only good live action remake

it was so fun! lol

it basically isn't great - very goofy - but one actor stood out as far as not sucking - Rae Dawn Chong. so it was bugging me, what happened to her? she was great in Quest for Fire, she was clearly a good actress, good "pedigree" for the nepotism? so what gives? she dropped off the face of the earth

anyone know why? again, I somehow missed the whole thing but it is quite juicy

149 A Poe movie with Christian Bale? Hm, that could be interesting.

Christian Bale is good in it

the guy playing Poe will make you want to murder yourself

or just stick a fork in your eardrums or something

my daughter loves loves loves Poe so really wanted to watch it and it annoyed her greatly. I don't know much about the source material or Poe's life so I didn't get as upset about that part (it's sort of a "young Edgar" bio)

anyway. it's worth looking at but if you want to take a break or not finish you're probably fine. you'll figure out the mystery pretty early

Thank God for Peter Jackson.

Bakshi repressed almost all of his worst impulses in LOTR. He knew he was working with art much higher than he could reach himself, and he treated it with as much respect as he could. I think his adaptation of FOTR is actually pretty good. It's when he tries to fit about 75% TTT into 30 minutes that the film just kind of falls apart.

In more thought out SF, usually hyper isn't available too close to a gravity well, so if you hyper to a planet and move even closer you can't just blip back out.

This also dodges issues like firing off your hyperdrive in the center of a major city.

Depends on the hyperspace ... theory they are trying to use. Star Trek was a bubble of subspace, iirc. Star Wars was.... I do not even remember.

I think the idea is that you have to be free and clear of space bending things that 'warp' space around them in order to do your thing and enter whatever mode you are using.

It is a way to give limitations to the schtick.

One of the "scientific" explanations is that mass casts a gravity shadow into hyperspace and thus getting too close to one of those will yank you out of hyperspace into realspace. You have to then navigate far enough away from the gravity well of the planet before entering hyperspace again. It's still a ludicrous explanation, though.

No it didn't. It lost to Green Book.

Singer was the actual director, but he was fired at some point through the production and replaced by someone else (Dexter Fletcher) finished for him. Singer just...stopped showing up at some point. It was also around the time it came out that he was a gay predator. I imagine the studio let that leak because they were mad at him for abandoning the film.

Didn't Barry and Big Mike pimp out one of their "daughters" to Harvey Weinstein years back before the troubles as a assistant trainee or something?

Wonder whatever happened to those poor girls.

304 Matthew Lawrence was born in 1980, making him ~18 when the original x-men came out.

He doesn't actually say how old he was when this happened, so it could have been when he was an adult, and still be about an MCU director, but if that's the case I don't see why anyone would care.

Most likely it would have been Singer/x-men in pre-production. He would have been in the right age range for Singer's predilections.

Posted by: Sunshine the Evil Cat at May 01, 2023 07:44 PM (QNzwg)

305 Why would that be the case? I've heard of can't hyper in or out, but in only makes no sense.

Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at May 01, 2023 07:27 PM (BpYfr)

this is the "can't hyper in OR out" rule, not the "can hyper in CANT hyper out rule

Posted by: Oldcat at May 01, 2023 07:46 PM (eoQWY)

306 Yep, ludicrous. Unless you're lurking along a known route that requires threading a needle navigation-wise through dense gravity sources which is what this author was doing.
Posted by: BifBewalski at May 01, 2023 07:36 PM (3CCua)

Why not go around these sources and save the trouble and the pirates? It isn't like going a million miles out of your way matters if you are going hundreds of light years, and with navigational hazards and pirates even more reasons to avoid it.

307 I hate this sort of shit.

While I don't doubt something happened, if you're not prepared to state names and details, you should just shut up: all you're doing is seeking a few extra minutes of fame.

Put up or shut up-thats my take.

308 Newsflash: name names or you are only one of two things: an enabler or a liar.

Either way you have no credibility or moral authority.

More than $15k can be earned online by performing straightforward tasks from home. In the previous month, I got $18376. Even a young child may do this job and make money because it is so simple to complete and has higher pay than typical office occupations. Everyone needs to try this task by using the information on this page. www.Richepay.com

313 yah this smells fishy, especially how he found a way to conveniently add that he was sent to a hotel room. I call it "prompting the algorithm"

have you ever seen how feminists will try to get a guy banned from a website was accusations that don't really make sense until you realize they are:using language lifted directly out of a mods training manual, like "i dont feel safe with him on this site"

Same thing with hotel remark. I have friends in porn and "don't meet in motels" is conventional wisdom. no agency would encourage it and no actor would keep the appointment once he saw it was at a motel.

but that's between us lznI'm going to give Disney hell for this on Twitter

Posted by: Fen at May 02, 2023 02:47 AM (+LcMo)

314 it sounds weird and scripted. He might as well have said "I can't believe my agent said to follow the nice man back to his van and play with cute puppies"

Posted by: Fen at May 02, 2023 02:52 AM (+LcMo)

315 although... it's possible for both to be true

1) it pretty much went down like the child actor described

2) and he was coached by some PR people to include specific language in his statement that would resonate with anyone who's ever dealt with

Most agencies will fire the ACTOR if they find out he/she went ahead and met a studio to rep in a motel room, probably to keep their insurance premiums low and the playing field level

316 I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning sixteen thousand US dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. Everybody must try this job now by just using this website... www.Payathome7.com
