In Chicago, they found themselves whisked to suburban lodgings. In Denver, officials refer to them discreetly as "guests" and you needn't bother inquiring about their inns or addresses. The people enjoying these free digs aren't privacy-conscious jet-setters, but the secrecy surrounding them might be comparable: They're some of the millions of migrants who have illegally crossed into the U.S. since the Biden administration relaxed most border controls. No one knows exactly how many people have poured across the southwestern U.S. border since President Biden took office, or where they've gone since. The official number of encounters by Customs and Border Patrol stands at 5.2 million people, logged over the last two full federal fiscal years and fiscal 2023 through March. But that number is imprecise because it includes repeat encounters with the same people and omits the many who slipped into the country unnoticed by border agents. Under President Biden, the U.S. smashed past the 200,000 monthly encounters mark for the first time in July 2021 and it has repeatedly topped that record in the months since. By comparison, in fiscal 2020, which ended a month before Biden's defeat of President Trump, the U.S. averaged 38,174 monthly encounters at the border, according to CBP figures. Because of an official lack of transparency, all those people and the circumstances by which they have arrived and remained have made it hard to take stock of the historic influx. Through midnight flights and buses from the border to far-flung locales, the administration has made it difficult to identify where the migrants are now living and receiving services. Also unclear are the costs associated with the arrivals. But flares have been sent up -- especially over immigrant sanctuary cities like New York, Denver and Chicago, which have long promised to house migrants. While those cities are providing housing and other services for a small fraction of the recent migrants, the costs are significant for these budget-strapped metropolises.
Denver plans to spend $20 million in the first six months of this year to provide housing to migrants. Officials say this works out to between $800 and $1,000 per week per person. In January the state of Illinois turned down Chicago's request for more funds, saying it had already spent close to $120 million on its "asylum seeker emergency response" -- or roughly $33,000 per migrant. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has asked for more than $500 million in federal aid, while pegging the city's spending at between $2 billion and $3 billion. Other data points of the opaque costs of Biden-era illegal immigration include Massachusetts' estimate that it will need $28 million to launch a program to provide driver's licenses to undocumented residents.... These numbers are incomplete in part because it is hard to separate the added cost of recent migrants from costs for the millions of undocumented immigrants who were in the country before the recent surge. There are flophouse motels in the metro that can be had for $60-$70 a night, or $2,100 per month (at retail). Still way less than the amounts they're talking about.
It's all being stolen, of course.

Schools aren't bussing these kids in. They'd be on regular busses if they were. These are almost certainly kids that are being trafficked in some way. That's why the vans picking them up off school grounds.
I would suppose they are sent to school to keep child and family services from sniffing around. They won't be expected to learn anything or even graduate. Just go for some hours every week.

Bridge Refugee Service has visited our church a couple of times when we inquired about helping a refugee family.
They said we couldn't host anything at the church for the refugees, should we choose to assist, nor initiate conversations about Jesus or Christianity.
What we would be allowed to do would be to rent them a house, pay for their utilities and take them back and forth to doctors visits, government visits and shopping (which would be good if we could pay for some groceries, too).
I don't often feel the urge to say "Get fucked" when I'm at church, but those two times are about the only ones that come to mind.

Schools aren't bussing these kids in. They'd be on regular busses if they were. These are almost certainly kids that are being trafficked in some way. That's why the vans picking them up off school grounds.
I would suppose they are sent to school to keep child and family services from sniffing around. They won't be expected to learn anything or even graduate. Just go for some hours every week.

Start retail. Tax any remittance to any Latin American country at 75% if the amount is under $25,000 (business transfers still go through, because they're large. Retail transfers get socked hard).
Cut off all foreign aid to any Latin American country.
Shore up the border with the regular army to interdict cartel activity.
Cyclically close ports of entry to force trade through fewer border crossings, increasing transportation and time expenses.
Make Mexico desperate *and* make the rest of Latin America hate them for disrupting the gravy train. Start standing down on all of those measures - remittances last - as Mexico starts securing both its own southern border and its border with the US. If they refuse, turn the screws ever-harder by imposing tariffs and quotas on trade and closing more border crossings. Sure, it's a violation of the USMCA but so be it.

I swear to Allah I'm going to go absolutely mental on this Dev. I made some changes to an app's startup because it was broken. There's a whole chain of locations where an app's settings can and will get overwritten. There are appsettings files that get selected based on certain environment settings. There are docker compose files of various flavors. Then on TOP of all that, there are environment files.
This Dev sees the root source of a variable in an environment file. He sees it being set, and he sees that my changes broke his use case. I sat down and patiently explained this whole chain of settings files, how they work, what their precedence is, how different files get selected based on what environment variables are set, etc. I did all this so he can understand where his settings should be placed and how they are selected and under what circumstances.

We're GTFO'ing soon. The actual families themselves tend to be fine to start with but once you get a critical mass the cartels always seem to pop up, and then you start accumulating losers on welfare contributing to petty theft problems.

Counterpoint: all rules about settings files are arbitrary. MS changes them about every 3rd Windows revision just to fuck with people. Linux varies by distribution and sometimes they change for no reason which is why containers exist now. Counterpoint: all rules about settings files are arbitrary. MS changes them about every 3rd Windows revision just to fuck with people. Linux varies by distribution and sometimes they change for no reason which is why containers exist now. If someone has something that works for them, the worst thing you can do is make that case not possible.

Some scams are obvious: illegals are counted for the census and affect legislative seats (and should not - if you'd asked the founders if foreign invaders should be counted in apportioning seats they'd justifiably look at you like you were retarded).
Some not not obvious - those illegals not working under the table are using stolen SS #'s. These are the ones working at meat packing plants, etc. They pay taxes but most of them don't get the refundable tax credits since they want to keep their heads down. Overall this increases the money passing through the .gov's hands each year (withholdings in, handouts to illegals out), which is a big win in their book. The bigger the stream, the more you can siphon off and the larger the fiefdom needed to manage it.

Start retail. Tax any remittance to any Latin American country at 75% if the amount is under $25,000 (business transfers still go through, because they're large. Retail transfers get socked hard).

I work in my own business but at retail, so I get a lot of customers coming and going. I'm in Utah but since Pudding Brains took over, the number of people coming in who either say "Habla espanol?" or just outright start chatting with me in Spanish as though I'm not of northern European descent has skyrocketed 10,000%.
It used to be rare, now it's a daily, guaranteed occurrence. Some of them just don't GAF either, it's my fault for not learning their shithole language.

But now, the nation is pretty well "full". Its not that we couldn't fit all them in, but we're nicely distributed and don't need any more to run the country well. So we have to be more careful how many and what sort of people we bring into the borders of the US.
