Ace Hollywood's Hollywood Minute
You're Never Going to Believe This, But Disney Has Rebooted an Old IP, and Then Race- and Gender-Swapped the Main Character!

Story about comedian John Mulaney's intervention, due to his abuse of a variety of prescription drugs and the non-prescription drug cocaine.

The intervention is noteworthy because it was done by Mulaney's comedian and comic actress friends, and featured some of the funniest people in the world, as well as Seth Meyers. "We didn't want this turning into funny people just joking around," Bill Hader explained. "We included Seth Meyers to bring the mood down and make the proceedings somber and awkward, like his TV talk show."

From Patrick in Ohio:

ABC Hospital Drama the GOOD DOCTOR

The autistic doctor, who's the main character on the show, correctly identifies the male patient as a male while everyone around him is in acute denial of reality.
This clip will leave you laughing so hard you might need to see a Dr, also I think they were trying to top NBC and their Roe vs Wade episode

If you think that maybe they're making fun of the non-autistic people by saying "it takes an autistic to see the plain truth" -- nah. "The Woke Doctor," I mean "The Good Doctor" has previously praised BLM and abortion.

Anyone interested in a horror movie?

How about a Christian horror movie?

The premise of Nefarious is that a demon-influenced man played by Sean Patrick Flannery is sowing evil wherever he goes for the glory of Satan.

Alan at Film Threat reviewed it, and says Nefarious is good. He said it's like a horror version of the Screwtape Letters, a bit. I saw someone else calling it "preachy" but I think that comes with the territory.

I asked "Is This Something?" about this movie last year. It looked good, but I never bothered to watch it.

The Critical Drinker says Fall actually is something.

I guess I'll have to give it a spin.

More: Disney has, get this, rebooted an old intellectual property, and, get this, gender and race-swapped the lead!

Are you ready for Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., about a genius teen girl (is there any other kind?) who becomes a doctor by age 18!

Wow, a reboot plus a race and gender swap?! Disney Brain Trust, by God, you've struck gold again! Is there no end to your creative prowess?!?!

Thanks to weft-cut loop.

27 Bill Hader is funny as hell.

As for The Good Doctor, my wife loves these doctor shows and so we watched a few episodes. They set him up as a guy who, due to his autism, is incapable of making real human connections.

They then try to seed all these story lines that will undermine that and allow him to make connections.

Uh, no. You can't say he's incapable and then make him capable. His heart isn't hardened by life or anything. F off.

91 Went and saw Nefarious the other night with the wifey. Two thumbs up. The main character should win an award but won't...he does an awesome job.

As to preachy, I'm a Roman Catholic convert from Missouri Synod Lutheran, so it didn't bother me at all. It certainly demonstrates the false faith / hope / charity of today's modern liberal atheist like nothing I've seen lately.

92 I prefer House M.D. for this:

Alexandria 'Alex' Robinson: No, you're wrong. I'm a girl [stands up and pulls off her gown]

Look at me! How could you say I'm not a girl? See? They're all looking at me. I'm beautiful!

Dr. Gregory House: Anger. It's just the cancer talking. Put your clothes back on. I'm going to cut your balls off. Then you'll be fine.

What are the odds of a New York cop being in the same building in LA as some European terrorists trying to steal bonds? During Christmas?!

Precisely.

Long odds to start something is fine.

Long odds to end an encounter with the villain is fine.

Long odds on every single encounter where the luck always goes your way makes you James Bond.

It failed because the first episode was a near perfect retelling of a classic Holmes tale in a modern setting, with interesting new characters that were close to their literary counterparts (except the heavily hinted at homosexuality).

Every subsequent episode diverged more and more from the source material, had increasingly far-fetched plots, and stupid, unsatisfying conclusions (the phone pass code is something like IAmSherlocked?)

104 People wonder - how much woke messaging should be in a movie?

Zero. That's how much.

Our tolerance was higher several years ago, but Hollywood has worn out that welcome. Even one line of dialogue that sounds remotely woke or preachy is enough for me to click off this bullshit. I'm done.

And as my wife and I laugh over how movies are into the "Now with added gayness." phase, just like dish soap, now with added cleansing agents. Instead of telling the same old story in a new and unusual way, they tell the same story and pretend it is a new story because....the person is GAY! get it! It's like a rom com, but they are gay! It's like an adventure movie, but they are GAY! Get it? They're GAY!

They also do the same thing with magic black girls (for some weird reason). Magic black girl syndrome. I have no idea where that originated, but once you notice it, it's everywhere. In every movie or TV show. Young black girl with magic powers. It's getting weird.

There is a cult of chic "mental illness" running rampant amongst the credentialed. The Good Doctor is socially awkward, and barely challenged. The closest thing I have seen to a high-functioning autist would be a forensic accountant who is gifted in rapid analytics of number fields.

There is a beauty to a person who has sincerely and genuinely mastered their chosen field and is fluid in its execution.

129 You don't have to diagnose testicular cancer to tell someone is a boy and not a girl. Merely identifying the presence of testiculars is sufficient.

But on the other hand ovarian cancer would be more likely to give you acute tenderness at McBurney's point than testicular cancer since the ovaries are intra-abdominal.

Unless the testicle is undescended, in which case it would be more predisposed to cancer. But in that case it wouldn't be located in the scrotum, which it appears to be in that scan.

But cancer would not be definitively diagnosed from a scan, it would require a biopsy. But I wouldn't be able to schedule a biopsy because I would be too busy browbeating all the annoying doctors in that hospital.

This is why I can't watch medical shows.

Apparently, after he kills all the Russians before the film starts, he moves on to killing the less bloodthirsty fellow socialist cocksuckers.

But the comments that Sisu is John Wick in Finland is probably pretty spot on. The dog. And both are nicknamed after evil Russian folk characters, Baba Yaga and Koschei the Deathless.

Remember wholesome family comedies?

We need more of those. Maybe with strippers ninjas and midgets.

The strippers could all be bisexual of course. Lots of tongue. Mostly STEM students, working their way through school. One of them could be taking injections to turn her skin from white to black, and end up midnight coal black, hilariously ending up with cancer.

The ninjas would need to be race swapped. Two clans, one of North Canadian first peoples and one of Swahili's, battling for control of the old Jewish neighborhoods of Miami Beach. Valiently resisted by the local homosexuals. That would be some serious drama!

The midgets are probably all gay. Embittered clowns forced to make a living by doing children's parties when they absolutely loathe children of any kind. They get through by injecting heroin in each others eyeballs, and dorsal penile vein. To humanize them, maybe they breed legless skinks is a hobby. No one knows why.

Man that's the kind of stuff you could really sit down and watch with your kids!

Speculation, the writers are either relatives of noteworthy Hollywood people, went to college for degrees in writing, or are so controlled by the studios that nothing new and dangerous can be tried. Generally the writers haven't done anything but live in large urban areas and their life experience is going to college.

Some comedians and writers have complained that when the job was fun there were no butthurt or tears in the Writers' Room, and now there is just conformity out of fear of being banned from your profession.

fun fact, I used to work in the X-Ray library when the local hospital was converting to electronic storage. The newer systems and digital X-ray machines are DA BOMB by they way. The digital imaging of my knee at an ortho clinic was fantastic, and far better than the shoulder shots the main hospital with film did on me twelve years ago.

The breaking apart of doctoring, imaging and reading the films is a way to try to optimize that part of medicine, like Henry Ford's or Adam Smith's manufactories, but unfortunately this only works if the workers are dealing with identical widgits or manufacturing identical parts.
Medicine is more artisanial, or at least "bespoke"
At least medicine that is focused on the patient, not the clinic.
