Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | THE MORNING RANT: Be Very Afraid of the Left’s “Climate Affirming Care”How was your Earth Day celebration this past Saturday? Did anyone you know engage in special sacraments to celebrate this highest of holy days of The Sustainable Organic Church of the Carbon Apocalypse? In my various circles of friends and family, which include plenty of lefties, I don’t know a single person who pays attention to Earth Day any longer, whereas a couple decades ago it was like Easter to some of these folks. Maybe that’s a little victory in the battle against eco-communism. Anyhow, if you did some form of ritualistic carbon-fasting on Earth Day, nature belched in your face last week, and more than offset you.Yeah, “the science” of global warming was a little unscientific with that swing and a miss. Palisades Tahoe Receives Record Breaking 710 Inches of Snow [NBC Bay Area – 4/19/2023] It’s not just the Mountain West that experienced record snowfalls this winter. The American heartland also got buried. Like with any doomsday cult, the repeated false prophecies of the climate religion don’t dissuade the true believers. They just reset their catastrophic judgment day to another point in the future, and continue to hector the rest of us to stop our carbon sinning. AFP News has now deleted the above tweet, as it is way too obvious about the eco-communists’ goal. Mass extermination of fellow humans is an historically common behavior for our species. It’s time to recognize that the climate agenda is more than just a hoax, it is a diabolical plan for starvation and depopulation. Be very afraid of the eco-communists and all the institutions they have captured. The “climate affirming care” they seek to impose on us will have an incomprehensible body count. Populations of a diving seabird plummeted by more than 90 percent after offshore wind farms were built, a study has found. Data from German scientists looked at the number of red-throated loons in the North Sea before and after the installation of five offshore wind farms. Numbers of the birds were found to be up to 94 percent lower within half a mile of the wind turbines, on average, after they were built. What is so despicable about the slaughter of birds at the blades of wind turbines is that there must still be 100% backup of traditional energy for when the winds don’t blow. The wind turbines provide zero reliable electricity. The brilliant Oilfield Rando captured it perfectly with this tweet below, pointing out that liberal media elites are now enthusiastic about killing birds so long as it’s in service to the climate agenda, but God forbid the oil industry disturbs one nest. The climate change people are, for the most part, not scientists at all. Even those who claim scientific credentials are not acting as scientists do.
I know this because they keep making falsifiable statements with no wiggle room, and keep being proven wrong. Any scientist who's been in the game for awhile knows that you don't say X, you say the data suggest X, but more research is needed. You always hedge your bets; it's the best way to avoid embarrassment. Yes, it can be maddening, but it also conveys a sense that you understand you aren't perfect, and the experimental results may change due to unforeseen factors you neglected. To say otherwise is pure arrogance. Posted by: Archimedes at April 24, 2023 11:07 AM (eOEVl) 14

I'm not fundamentally opposed to "green energy", but it requires a much longer runway to get there than current proponents are willing to admit.
You need the technology to produce clean energy, the natural resources to build the devices to collect the energy, and the infrastructure to store and transmit the collected energy. As of now, we fail on all 3 in terms of very large scale stable implementation. To get to those points, we need short term energy (fossil fuels) and mid term energy (nuclear) to act as stopgaps and keep economies strong enough to afford the research and development needed to reach those goals. the evil EPA is proposing new rules requiring existing power plants to install diseconomic (incredibly expensive) decarbonizing equpment, or shut down. The game here is to pass the rule, and then socialize (use federal money) to pay the costs of the rule. Net result: Nationalize federal control of electricity manufacturing/delivery.

All this environmental insanity is just a scheme for the ppl at the top of Int'l Finance to remove money and currency from the global economy.
It's denial of resources to the enemy. I think everything "we" define as insane behavior is part of a massive scheme by a small group atop Int'l Finance to deny resources. Ponder any example of it enough and that's what you find. The SMO and the recent economic actions of CHN and RUS and Saudi and Brazil are really efforts to work around Int'l Finance's denial of resources efforts. Int'l Finance has decided on stopping the world from industrial growth and global trade. And they are using USD global reserve status as the primary tool. Of course, the GR status of USD is backed up by US sub force. And the world outside EUR is saying loudly that our subs aren't powerful enough anymore. Int'l Finance has forced us (the US) into mate via US deindustrialization. Best case is we (the US) tells Int'l Finance to get fucked and we take our deserved lumps economically and re-shore industry and pursue massive WWII style industrial development. We can do this and keep GR status. But lord have mercy it is going to hurt. Posted by: Thesokorus at April 24, 2023 11:30 AM (RKrbv) 116

Biggest issue in public policy, by leaps and bounds. Already causing massive damage to the society and economy, not to mention reinforcing the degradation of real science.
Yet it's almost invisible in "politics". It's not about the amount of lithium available. It's not about windmills killing birds. It's not about lack of a grid to support massive EV use. It's about the complete lack of any basis to do *any* of these uneconomic, non-cost efficient things, instead of exploiting the super-abundant real energy resources made available by current technologies. It's about the acceptance of an outlandish hypothesis, with no support, that natural variation is *not* the cause of any infinitesimal "climate change" actually detected. 136 Why is it clearly man made? Are there previous similar increases in CO2 throughout history?
The correlation with industrial activity is pretty stark. Does that imply causation? I think in this case it does. ____ CO2 is released from the earth into the atmosphere when the planet warms - warming causes increased CO2. This is shown in ice core samples for every one of earth's warming/cooling cycles. CO2 increases on the heels of periods of warmer temps and CO2 decreases following cooler temps. The earth is still warming after the most recent little ice age in the early 1800s, thus the increase in CO2 from near plant starving lows of 300ppm (0.03%) to a more plant friendly 414ppm (0.04%) today. Posted by: Lurker De Plume at April 24, 2023 11:42 AM (76TDd) ? I took it to be the opposite of "alarmist". Yeah, there has been a measurable increase in CO2 in the atmosphere since we've been measuring. Yeah, there has been meteoric industrialization in the third word. Are those two things related? Possibly. Probably. Does it matter? Who knows. But the arguments that "There's so little CO2 in the atmosphere it doesn't matter" or "Human's can't affect the planet because the planet is really big" are stupid arguments that do our side no credit. The argument to make is that The Science is demonstrably fraudulent with manipulated data and laughably unsupportable conclusions drawn from it. CO2 is released from the earth into the atmosphere when the planet warms - warming causes increased CO2.
Posted by: Chuck Martel at April 24, 2023 11:46 AM (fs1hN) In cold periods CO2 is absorbed in sea water, often to such an extent that higher elevation areas have such low CO2 that plants can't grow. This causes desertification in areas like central Asia. This is counteracted by dust from the desert areas settling on glaciers and absorbing more heat than is reflected, but the sun is the source of the heating and cooling. when the oceans and ice warm again in a warming trend, the CO2 is released. CO2 follows climate change, it does not cause it. Oh, and Methane? To be useful in warming it has to be in the atmosphere, where it is broken down quickly by UV. Fox Nation, like most streaming services, probably is losing its shirt. Right. Nobody disputes that CO2 is way up since the late 1800s. The claim that C02 has been incredibly stable for basically forever(which is a result of leakage leaving very little inside ice cores) doesn't make sense in conjunction with fairly variable temperatures and claims that C02 drives temperature. It's a contradiction to begin with. The ice core method doesn't even agree with other records constructed using different measurements in the last 200 years. This paper (https://tinyurl.com/2p97y29u) has the CO2 levels for the last 1000 years until about 1900, which includes the LIA. You'll note in Figure 2 that the [CO2] varies by plus or minus 5 ppm up until the beginning of the industrial age, roughly 1850, when it spikes to 310. It has since increased to 420 or so.

As I said down below, I bet this deal is fallout from the streaming wars, and maybe a little from the uninsured portion of the Dominion settlement.
Fox Nation, like most streaming services, probably is losing its shirt. FNC gave Tucker a new deal two years ago, where they built him a Florida studio (so he could hide from further Antifa attacks on his home), and build a Fox Nation long form interview story capability. Plus, they agreed to pay him more. I bet FNC decided it couldn't afford to keep all their commitments to Tucker, approached him looking for a new deal, and he said "nah bruh". I expect litigation, because the Murdochs MO is to negotiate via lawsuit. Posted by: Huck Follywood at April 24, 2023 12:12 PM (huhcJ) 346
CNN should hire Tucker, reverse course completely and send fox to…CNN type ratings.

Right. Nobody disputes that CO2 is way up since the late 1800s. The dispute is that the "scientific consensus" on how much increasing CO2 changes the climate has been proven to be hilariously wrong, possibly by multiple orders of magnitude. But the climate scientologists refuse to admit that for the most part.
I made that point explicitly in my #129. The concentration of atmospheric CO2 has gone from roughly 310 ppm to 420 ppm since 1960. It is not an insignificant rise and is clearly man made. Whether that affects earth's T is another question. Posted by: George Lazenby at April 24, 2023 12:18 PM (eOEVl) 349
My bud works in the power industry. The old power plants like the 'renewable energy' fields for one reason only: They provide backup power adequately enough during maintenance periods. That's it. Otherwise, they admit the renewable energy sucks and isn't sustainable for current needs. Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Joe Biden The other reason to like renewable energy fields is that the leases often allow you to also drill for natural gas on the same land. As I recall, that was T Boone Pickens' scam when he loudly announced a big investment in wind power about 10 years ago. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at April 24, 2023 12:19 PM (n+4am) 350
It is undeniable that a rise of 420 PPM of CO2 in the atmosphere causes uncontrolled global warming. This must be the answer, because the only other thing that could have that much of an effect on the climate would have to be something as large and as powerful as the Sun, and we have discounted that since the sun neither fluctuates in brightness or output of particles, and the Sun has no changes in magnetic field to interact with the Earth, nor does the orbital distance from the Earth to the sun vary.

The earth is still warming after the most recent little ice age in the early 1800s, thus the increase in CO2 from near plant starving lows of 300ppm (0.03%) to a more plant friendly 414ppm (0.04%) today.
At .02% all the plants die - which effectively kills all life on earth. And yes, I know about the things that exist near volcanic chutes in the ocean and breath H2S. By the way, they are called FOSSIL fuels because at one time in the past, all of that carbon was a living part of the biosphere. Slavery is not evil because it is racist, slavery is bad because it is slavery. Slavery is also ancient. It provided the renewable sustainable biodegradable energy for the elites for millennia. Interracial slavery did not become commonplace until a leap in transportation technology in the 16th Century allowed slaves sold by Africans to be transported to the Americas to provide sustainable renewable energy for the elites. Technological improvements in energy production later made it possible to eliminate slavery in the West. Within approximately 100 years of the Watt-Wilkinson collaboration that produced an efficient fossil fueled steam engine, slavery was abolished in the West. Slavery reappeared in Germany during the fossil fuel shortage of the first half of the 1940s. (Audrey Hepburn’s step-brother along with many other Belgians, Dutch, French and other Europeans were enslaved to ameliorate the fossil fuel shortage) Posted by: Tmitsss at April 24, 2023 12:34 PM (C+D4t) 353

Just an FYI - Alaska was pretty cold and VERY snowy this year. December was the snowiest on record. Also the wettest year. The record, set in 2012, was 133 inches of snow. They are currently at 104 inches.

The notion that we get more conservative as we age is a right wing myth. All the lefties I knew when I was growing up in the 60s are even more hardcore than they were back then. Very few of them gained any sanity over the years. The saving grace is that hardly any of them (especially the women) had kids, so we can be grateful for that.
On the other hand, conservative communities (Christians, Orthodox Jews, traditional Catholics) have lot of kids and a very good retention rate. Posted by: go get your fuckin shine box at April 24, 2023 03:06 PM (WusEB) 358
By the way, having lived in the Twin Cities for eight years and been a frequent visitor to Duluth, I have never figured out how they manage to get through the winter in a city with Buffalo level snowfall and a San Francisco topography. Tricky on those hills.

Left wing activists used to hate McCarthyism.
Nope. They never were. What they were against was who it exposed and for what (communism). They were never against witch hunts to root out the unfaithful - in their church. Posted by: GWB at April 24, 2023 05:51 PM (Qo5P5) 361
