AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests: 3/18 – gp asks for prayers for Al, who is homebound, needy, and lonely. He also asks for prayers for Brian, who is afflicted by the horrible maladies of old age.
4/1 Update: Brian is on the mend from his latest bout of disease.
4/15 Update: Al overcame a long-standing problem that was keeping him off the HF radio, so now he can talk to people all around the USA, all day long, and it’s making him very happy. Thanks again! 3/29 – Notsothoreau asked for prayers for her co-worker, C. He is a young guy and the new management is grinding him down. Prayers that he can quickly find a new job where he is appreciated. 3/30 – Hrothgar asked for prayers on behalf of Ed L., who is a member of the Moron Gun Club. Ed’s mother passed away in Hawaii this past weekend. He and his brother will be busy settling her affairs there (in Hawaii) over the two weeks or so. He did get to see her over the Christmas holiday, which was a blessing. 4/1 – NaughtyPine’s mom is receiving hospice at home. She’s in decent spirits and seldom has pain; they are hoping this continues. Prayers also for Dad, who has health problems of his own and is convinced she’s getting better every day. They recently celebrated 58 years of marriage. 4/6 – Fenelon Spoke asks for continued prayers for the church she serves, that if it’s God’s will they stay open to the glory of God, through some financial arrangements with either the Open Space Committee or neighbors who have expressed an interest. She is touched and grateful for the support in various ways from kindly Horde members. God bless you all! Thanks to all praying for their church patriarch, Ray. He is doing better than he was a few days ago, and Fenelon so appreciates the prayer support. Also, thanks for prayers for Jessie, their organist. She is making some recovery and hopes to play for Mother’s Day. Also, she thanks God and a very kindly poster who has been advocating for FenSon to get a summer internship with his company. It’s really something FenSon is interested in, so prayers that it can be worked out would be appreciated. 4/8 – Jayhawkone asked for prayers for his sister-in-law GLL. A malignant polyp was discovered in her uterus on 4/6, and she will have a hysterectomy in the next two weeks. 4/12 – Prayers are appreciated for Jane D’Oh and her family. Her husband passed away on 4/12. He had a medical emergency on Monday, where his lungs filled with fluid, as happened in December. He received CPR and was hospitalized, on life support. He was surrounded by family and friends and passed away peacefully on Wednesday. She sends her appreciation for the prayers. 4/15 – Henry asked for prayers for his neighbor, Henry, who had a stroke about a month ago. 4/15 – Chopperpilot asked for prayes for Josh C., a USMC veteran who’s currently being treated for stage 4 colon cancer. Skipping lunch after a light breakfast seems to be helping me.
However, what's really getting me back on track is the combination of us babysitting the (toddler) grandkids along with a resumption of yard work. I'm not losing weight per se, but I've been able to tighten my belt a notch.

The pastor there is a Protestant convert, so he's all-in on the traditional stuff. The bulletin says its the Novus Ordo version, so I assume it's basically the same Mass just using the Latin setting. It's in the hymnal and for Lent, our parish swaps in some Latin to add to the sense of solemnity.

For my military retirement ceremony, a Catholic chaplain was unavailable, so I requested that prayer as my invocation. The chaplain (Baptist) read it, but she felt compelled preface it by explaining that St. Michael is in fact in the scripture.

Also, the patriarch Ray was coming home yesterday from rehab so if you could pray that transition goes smoothly-he has to have someone stay with him for a while-it would be much appreciated.

Randomly (?)-placed prayer cards have changed my life in ways. I have found cards in odd places at times when I needed answers in my life, and even though I'm not Catholic, I prayed the prayers and got answers.

Now that the weather is improving, they love going outside, and while chasing them is a chore, the naps they require afterwards make it worth the effort.
Their mother is currently lapsed, but with her approval we're teaching them grace before meals. They seem to enjoy it - wave your hands, put them together, wave again and then eat.
Fun fact: my youngest had the hardest time remembering which way to cross herself, so we used to joke that she was Eastern Rite.

In my little town 40% of the land area has been set aside as 'Open Space' or deed restricted for no further subdivision. It didn't cost a whole lot of money and the residents voted in favor of it. In fact, local taxes are virtually the same for the past couple of decades.
Eventually some lawyer will fight it and win.

I don't bother to follow politics because so much of it is just impotent bleating by a collapsing government.
If find it much more rewarding to focus on matters of faith, and I'm increasingly seeing all events through the lens of the spirit world. For a long time, I felt the Enemy on the advance, but now I'm not so sure. I think people are rallying back to God, not all at once, but I just keep encountering faith in unlikely places.
I also find far more satisfaction in improving the spaces around me than I ever did griping about the news. Some of my friends are drawing away from me for that reason, but others are taking a new look at their faith, which is wonderful.

The problem with "there are no absolutes" is that pretty soon, everything is an exception. "Respect your elders" becomes "respect them when it's convenient," which becomes "never."
The whole point of respect is that it isn't cost-free. Again, I've love to live in a society were people just waved the elderly to the front.

I guess I'm biased. I *always* choose the worst line, the one that looks shortest, but then the payment doesn't work, or they want to return a blemished turnip. If I can let an older person move ahead and do so graciously, I'm not much worse off than I normally am.

My state of Pennsylvania is in second place to Florida for aging population. While I don't see what you described, crossing the center line of the highway seems to be required in this state if retired. I would love to see more Christian unity. That's the way that it should be. That being said, even my devoutly Catholic friends are wary of Francis.
There are a number of Eastern Rite "churches" that have been part of the Catholic church for ages - Ukrainian, Maronite, Melkite, etc. - but as far as I know, they have been part of the Catholic church for ages.
What's troubling, as an Orthodox Christian, is seeing the Patriarch of Constantinople cozying up to the Pope. Again, not that it wouldn't be great if the Great Schism could be healed, but both Francis and Bartholomew are globalists and the two of them working "jointly" makes me very, very nervous.

Dude looks at me and smiles. Starts playing... in nickles.
I said "hey. I only allow playing quarters on my money, loaded, 5 at a time"
He swiches to quarters and within 5 minutes hits 4 of a kind 3's with a 2 for $400.
Dude at the counter was pissed paying that one out.
I laughed when Stump tried to pay me back.
I easilly got 20 bucks worth of entertainment out of that.

The little town I live in has a neighboring town that touches our border, and them who are important in both towns have been talking forever about combining the towns but have always run up against the solid conviction of both towns' governments that they will wind up on top and negotiate from that position.
They want to combine because it means a larger tax base the winning government can control. And both sides do intend to control it.

If you have not read it, I would read "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield. Pressfield has probably fallen out of favor with the Horde Bunch, as he is anti-Trump and gone "woke". But it is a REALLY good book, a novelized story of the stand at the Hot Gates.

I know that between the canonical Eastern Orthodox and various Oriental Orthodox churches, there has been discussion, and at least with one or two of them that the "big" issues have been mainly due to translation issues.
The Ukrainian Catholic Church is interesting, because it very much looks and feels like Orthodoxy. On the other hand, they acknowledge the Pope as the head of the Church, and although they basically tend to their own matters, they ultimately have to listen to Rome. One of the reasons the Eastern Rite churches lost tons of adherents to the Orthodox in the United States about a century ago (and probably led to the American Carpatho-Russian diocese) is that Rome ordered that Eastern Rite priests in the US be unmarried, like the Roman rite priests. Most Eastern Rite priests in the old country are married, and this was a huge affront to them. A lot of the "Russian Orthodox" outside of the big cities were actually Ukrainians, Ruthenians, Slovaks, etc., and the Orthodox priests ministered to them.

Recently, I've read two people who have recommended Timothy Patitsas' recent book "The Ethics of Beauty". He's the dean of the Greek Orthodox seminary in Boston. Basically any Greek Orthodox priest educated in the US goes there. He's written that he'd like to see the Creed be universally adopted without the filioque or amended to this:"And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father in order to rest upon and shine out through the Son, anointing Him in time as the Christ, the Holy One of Israel, and eternally as the Son of the Living God." I'm no theologian, so I don't have much of a comment on that, but it's interesting...
A lot of the "big" issues now come from what the Orthodox now considered more or less invented doctrine of more recent times such as papal infallibility.
