Baby Lizards Cafe

A peacock soul is "called home."
Actually it's an albino peacock, of course.

Dog and cat watching TV LIKE A BOSS.

Heavy Medieval war arrows versus plate armor, which arrows could supposedly pierce. But can they? I've heard that when fully plate-armored knights were killed by arrows, it was usually due to the arrows hitting their horse, which then took a tumble and wound up crushing them.

There's a rule that all baby animals are cute. Is the rule always true? Well, here's a baby cobra just coming out of its shell. Is it cute? (Yes, kind of!)

Here's a baby turtle coming out of its egg. Is it cute? Yes of course it is, it's a baby turtle.

I'm helping!

Well dog my cat!

America still leads the world in cat-bothering technology.

Old, but: everyone loves beavers.

"I think I'm getting away with it, I'm blending in perfectly...!"

Don't poke the porcupine. Everyone knows that.

I just decided on a new career -- Myna Wrangler. Easy Street, here I come...!

The most important advice I can give you regarding the training of a monkey to use a wooden sword: Don't train a monkey to use a wooden sword. And giving a chimp an AK is right out!

Gymnastic robbery.

Sound on. Dogs just want to help, in their own way.

I've seen a few videos where they've tested armor against longbow arrows and crossbow bolts. For the most part, armor is *REALLY* good at preventing penetration because it's designed to deflect impacts. Even a straight shot has a pretty good chance of deflection. If an arrow does penetrate skin, it's probably because it just happened to find one of the few chinks where the armor pieces connect to one another. And that's a fairly difficult event to predict.

The Twitter caption was "Instant regret". But I don't think he regretted a thing. He teased the porcupine and then clumb (yes, that's a word) a tree. Unless the porcupine learns how to fling its quills, that monkey will continue to have its fun and there's not a damn thing the porcupine can do about it.

Unless the monkey is a step too slow one of these times. That's when the fun begins.

107 Yup, that last Trump thread was a thread, all right.

And solar mass ejections like that are why the gov't needs to get off Elon's back big time about Starship and why colonizing Mars/whatever is kind of the biggest thing we could be doing right now.

Sooner or later Earth is going to get whacked.

Could be a coronal mass ejection frying the entire grid. Could be an asteroid. Could be our own damn fool selves with nukes or greenies trashing civilization. But, somewhere out there, the grim reaper has a date in his day planner and is counting the days off, and we don't know when it'll be.

192 Trump had the ability for four years to control and "burrow in" people at the executive branch like Obama did when he left. Personnel is policy.

Uh, no. The GOP senate held up many appointments and were nothing but trouble. They did back Mueller though. And a significant number voted for AG Garland, SoS Blinken and even 6 for Mayorkas. They presented no problem to the dems. And Biden ousted plenty of Trump appointees, especially DoD people

Posted by: CN at April 21, 2023 08:49 PM (Zzbjj)

193 You could kinda see both teams were running out of gas in the third period. The earlier pace took its toll.

One of the teams is Central Army Sports Club (CSKA), heir to the legendary name of what was essentially the Soviet national team that competed internationally. Their coach is Fedorov, one of the most entertaining Russian players to lace up skates in the NHL to date, and I think a CSKA player himself back in the day.

But it's not the same. The team back then trained 12 months a year, a lot of it endurance training (and nothing but soccer for the month of August, to develop foot skills, and you could see the results there too). Their system called for most players away from the puck to skate in circles, nearly constantly, which made for a truly beautiful game and an attack that was very hard to stop - but imposed a brutal endurance burden on the players.

Still, nice to see almost half a period played without a stop. Hockey's main virtues - speed, and action - on display.

Had a street level drug dealer in the neighborhood squatting in his brother's house for a couple of years. County Police did nothing to the guy despite repeated calls-until the house was foreclosed on and the sheriffs breached the door.
The shitty buyers of those drugs kept showing up for about two years or so in every fall expecting to score. The neighborhood property crime wave disappeared when the drug dealer did too.

They found all kinds of drugs in that place. Guy always had a mean ass pitbull chained up to the shed when he had supply to sell--then the dog would vanish until the next time. That is when I started carrying seriously.

Umm, across the river from the Naval Yard at that time in Anacostia at that time was somewhere that was really not smart to be for outsiders. I had relatives in the area but in another deteriorating exurb a bit to the north and east of DC in Maryland.

I lived on Capitol Hill behind the Supreme Court building and worked in the Cannon bldg.

If you are a tourist, one of the better places to eat lunch is in the Library of Congress James Madison building. At the top of the building, there is a cafeteria with a great view of southern DC including the Naval Yard and Potomac.

The law will be enforced and celebrated that they caught lawbreakers if certain people do it. This is no longer hypothetical. This is modern America. We have watched it with our own eyes and know it's true, and not only at politician-level crime but at street level stealing-gum crime.

You'd be taken to jail and lose your savings and your job over it, and you'd be made a lesson of.

A lonely dot or two west of Rock Creek Park - and those you'd have heard of the specifics, as they were "news".

Navy Yard area in the 80s was sporty. We used to use the tennis courts occasionally (Hill staff had access), but day time, no big deal.

This is a generational thing.

My old man drug us all to DC, when I was in middle school, in the early eighties. I had two wisdom teeth coming in. The expectation was to tell the old man how great everything was - as always. And some things were great.

But every night, listening to constant sirens from that room at the Holiday Inn was not great. The sneers you could pick up - because we were rubes, and treated as such - were not great.

Best of all was the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Of course, my old man got a hard on pretty much when park rangers descended on a dumb ass that took a picture. But I've seen my old man do equally dumb shit, and walk past multiple signs to do it.

Short story long - J6 has very little to do with those signs, but everything to do with generations that seek pretext to fuck with people.

It's interesting to me what can be done, sometimes easily, to make a location more secure. My community (about 10K) can only be accessed by one four lane road. It's not a gated community. We're about five miles off the interstate. Crime is pretty much none existent. The largest item in keeping us secure is the road in/out is about 3 miles of a speed limit of 45mph and then drops to 30MPH. We have our own LEO and they enforce the speed limit mercilessly for residents and visitors alike. The police chief insists this is the biggest factor in keeping out the bad guys and crack/meth heads.

Vultures from the highway are intercepted and harassed by the speeding tickets to say nothing of the cops IDing them. I realize ours is special and probably unique case - rural settings have different options than urban locales.

My town has some attributes that make it naturally pretty safe as well. We don't really have any crime either, speeding tickets and some DUIs in the summer with all the tourists but not much serious stuff.

But I lived in Boston for many years. Granted, a nice section but not all that far from some pretty sketchy places. And I never felt unsafe other than during blackouts.

325 308 I appreciate your exegesis! I know it's popular. I look at Luke 6:46, and that tells me I must do what Jesus says. If I don't, I don't make the cut. Maybe He implied "optional" in there, or (quite likely) my exegesis is wrong.

326 That's the whole point. None of us deserves it. We deserve death for our sin.

Thats a tough sell, if you're trying to pick teams on the playground.

That statement alone is one that could only be produced by someone religious at heart. Just need to find peace with whatever you believe you have done and go on with life.

328 310. They are bravely ignoring the evidence. Mike Lee spent more time talking about Prince Harry than " Russian collusion". It doesn't seem to register.

On Reforger we would stop in these little German towns and sample their beers. Seems like they all had a brewery. That is where they keep the good stuff.

They all did.
We used to go recon our go to war positions and drink in the local gasthaus.
Great times.

330 We tried Yuengling for the first time yesterday. Their lager is quite smooth. This might turn out to be our summer beer.

Yuengling is one of the better domestic beers for a reasonable price. Liked the dark as well.

Unfortunately, my meds for inflammatory arthritis and other such fun syndromes do not play well with alcohol so can't drink anymore.

332 My Mom said believing is a matter of faith. One chooses to believe. She was pretty smart.

333 318 That's a good point! The way I look at it, if my only reason to embrace Christ is to secure salvation, and I otherwise disregard Luke 6:46, and all His other commands, it just feels insincere, and futilely so, because the Lord knows when I am lying.

334 321 >>>I think you're right that most places can be made secure if the residents and the leadership want it to be and use commonsense.

>Import some peacocks. They' position the flock around the neighborhood and scream back and forth at everything that moves.

Guineas are a bit better--raise as much noise but not as much a PITA to be around. Eat lotsa bugs too and decent eating.

Peacocks and Geese can have an attitude and that is from personal experience as the neighbors had them when I was growing up.

Listen to vmom and Emmie, they got a lot more biblical wisdom than I do.

336 Gotta go. Night folks.

337 I think it would be really cool if we had a weekly Bible discussion thread. Most people think John 8:1-11 is easy to understand. Not for me it isn't. So that's my suggestion for a starter.

If I discuss Scripture with you guys, and I disagree with you, nothing I say is intended to shake your Faith. I'm not pushing atheism or agnosticism. Your Faith is so very precious, and I would not want to see anybody lose it. I just have questions.

339 Gp, I continued my comments in the ONT. Didn't know if you'd stay here or jump to the new thread.
