I once read that when Natalie Portman was there, filming for the Star Wars prequels, she got a terrible ear infection while swimming in Lake Como. Turns out, there was a nearby open sewer from a local town feeding into the lake.

Seconded! I have 5 cats. Two of them were adopted from a shelter. One was given to me by someone who could no longer take care of her. And two were adopted straight from the outdoors. There is no shortage of cats who need a forever home, even if they might be a genetic freak with extra toes.

I don’t know of a cat I don’t love. I truly risk being a crazy cat lady at some point. I love my exotic kitty boys, they are special and cool is so many ways. I also love the little torti we rescued for my daughter with her wonky paw that spent her first 5 years in a shelter. She now lives the life of luxury and she couldn’t be sweeter if she tried. I think she needs a friend which will also be a rescue. Prior to the Savannah boys, all my cats were rescues. You can’t beat them.

I am reading the memoirs of a guy who's family settled in Easter Oregon near Baker in the 1880's. The families would go out and collect wild duck eggs in the spring on the lakes, and he mentioned skipping school with his friends and collecting a pan full of red winged blackbird eggs because they were hungry for lunch.

Her Majesty landed in Shreveport after the first leg of her trip to the National Specialty in Virginia Beach. She's taking things at a leisurely pace, not aiming to drive more than 6 hours a day so that she's never driving at night.

She's taken Delilah and her daughter Diana, leaving Ruthie with me. We brought Sonny up from the kennel to be a house dog for the duration and he and Ruth, in separate crates in the breakfast area, seem to be taking things well together.

One of the local yutes wanted to fight, so he got told to leave. He came back with a gun and started shooting people in the crowd at random. Did not get much plumbing done today. Discovered that the toilet flange and elbow I bought stacked up to waaay too tall for a raised floor with only 6 inches between top of raised floor (with flooring) and the cement slab below. But I discovered a work-around with the able assistance of two plumbing staffers at Home Depot. Got a 3" cleanout tee, and cleaned the threads out of the center leg to fit a short 3" floor flange. That gets me to 5 1/2", and I can get it down to 5 1/4 if I cut another quarter-inch off the floor flange spigot. That will still get me a full 3/4" glue line between the spigot and the hub on the tee, and should allow for sufficient slope to the waste line. And I have a plan written down on how to sequence the job.

187 There's a Lake Como in south Fort Worth. Well, this is the kind of neighborhood it's in - a couple years ago, there was a big neighborhood gathering near the lake. One of the local yutes wanted to fight, so he got told to leave. He came back with a gun and started shooting people in the crowd at random. Well,they didn't feel like running, so when he ran out of bullets they beat his head in with some cinder blocks that were laying around.

No, that was Lake Nemi, a much smaller lake ~15 miles SE of Rome, near the Pope's summer palace at Castel Gandolfo. It's only 1/2 mile across, and is round, since it's in the crater of an extinct volcano. Lake Como is in the foothills of the Alps north of Milan, is Y-shaped, and over 20 miles long.

The emperor who built the Nemi boats was Caligula, and they were really pleasure barges, flat-bottomed and almost as wide as they were long. On such a small lake, there was nowhere to go, so they would just sail out in the middle of the lake and party.

There are excellent detailed photos of them on the web, and you can see some of the metal fixtures at the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme, an amazing ancient history museum almost next door to the main train station in Rome. Go if you're ever in Rome. They also have the famous statue of the weary boxer: see "Boxer at Rest" on Wikipedia.
