Alec "All Class" Baldwin Demands Court Throw Out Lawsuits of Family Members of the Woman He Shot to Death

He claims they were "distanced" from the woman he killed for years.

Probably more distanced now though, wouldn't you say, Alec?

That's not a reason to toss a lawsuit. That's an argument you can make as regards the damages to be paid out in a wrongful death lawsuit, not to dismiss the suit entirely.

Obviously they lost something here. How much? That's up to a jury to decide.

NBC News reports Baldwin said in the court filings, "The loss of a daughter and sister is undoubtedly painful in any circumstance. Yet Plaintiffs--who had been distanced from Halyna physically, financially, and emotionally for years before her death--have no viable cause of action against Defendants."

I'm pretty sure, again, that this is a question for a jury to settle, weighing evidence about how close they were and how much companionship and financial support they lost, not for a judge to decide based on a defendant's self-interested, evidence-free assertions.

Remember Alec Baldwin's first line of defense against a negligent homicide charge? He claimed he was "friends" with the cinematographer, citing as evidence for this "friendship" that they... had dinner together.

He doesn't seem to want the family members of his "friend" to be compensated for the loss he inflicted on them.

That's not enough for a post. Here's an "Is This Something?" to fill it out.

Ben Affleck vs. William Fitner in a movie directed by Robert Rodriguez.

It's one of those movies where the script was bought because the studio thought "Wow, everyone loves superheroes! Let's do an action movie where the villain is a supervillain with powers!"

It doesn't look as exciting as I'd hope.

On the upside: The villain has a superpower, but this isn't a superhero movie. It's a thriller with a sci-fi/fantasy twist. I'm glad to see someone making a movie in that genre.

Also, I don't see any transgenders or Girlboss Strong Female Heroes in the trailer. So maybe not woke? Maybe someone in Hollywood is still interested in making money?

From what I understand, the original script that the studios wanted done had Princess Peach as a total badass girl boss who dominated everything and Mario as a bumbling ass. I mean, he's kind of bumbling from what I can see in trailers but more of a "dropped into a crazy world" way, not incompetent.

Nintendo vetoed that and forced them to do this version where Peach is really capable, but is not overshadowing the protagonist, and is sweet and compassionate.

I think that defense was still allowed at that time, so I do not have an issue with Hillary defending her client in whatever legal way allowed. I do have an issue with her gloating about it. A normal human being would be sitting at a bar with other lawyers downing a third scotch and saying "I can't believe the jury fell for that. I hate my job. Family is assumed to suffer loss at the death of a loved. The burden of proof here would be on Baldwin to demonstrate they suffered no loss. And because it's arguable it should go to a jury.

There were a number of subtle jokes and bits of witticism thrown into the story that an adult more likely would catch than a child would. My two gKids loved it and were all eyes and ears throughout it.

Looks like a legit legal argument; a required element of the claim is that the complaining surviving relative be either a spouse (Cali law) or someone in a "sufficiently close relationship" (New Mexico law) for the claim to even get past demurrer stage. So it's a matter of whether they alleged the proper facts to state a claim in the first place. IOW it's a legitimate motion to file at this stage of the proceedings. Beyond that no idea whether it is correct on the legal merits of the argument.

Remember the lawyer suing him is Gloria Allred, so there's that.
