After Three Nights of Rioting and Two Shootings, Chicago's Mayor-Elect Defends the Rioters and Looters

Two teens shot as Chicago is torn by riots for three straight nights.
On Saturday, two teens were shot as a mob of young people rioted on North Michigan Avenue in Chicago. According to the Chicago Police department both the victims were boys, one 16-year-old was shot in the arm and one 17-year-old was shot in the leg. Both were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital by the Chicago Fire Department. Videos show hundreds of young people causing chaos in downtown Chicago by jumping on vehicles (including a CTA bus), assaulting motorists, and getting into fights. According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), someone fired shots around 9 pm as a crowd was gathered on Washington street near North Michigan Avenue. CPD reported that they had arrested 15 people near Millennium Park, nine adults and six juveniles. CPD said most of the charges were for reckless conduct, but one 16-year old was charged with unlawful use of a weapon. According to local CWB, Saturday's incident was the third consecutive night youth were out causing trouble in the downtown area. On Thursday evening, a large group gathered at Millennium park where a 16-year old girl was injured as a fight broke out. On Friday night, a 14-year old was shot around the 31st Street Beach. Friday and Saturday's crowds were reported to have formed as the result of invitations being sent out over social media. Videos of the night's events circulated across Twitter on Sunday. ... Alderman of Chicago's 15th Ward, Raymond Lopez, tweeted a video and said, "This was Chicago last night. Save the excuses & rationalization. Unless you want this to be the norm in Chicago, hold them & their parents accountable."Update: The mayor-elect put out a statement claiming that "demonizing" the Youths who are rioting and just about to turn their lives around is "not productive."

actually the trend is not our friend.
the Main Line is very wealthy and VERY CLOSE to the city of Philadelphia. where I am is very close to Delaware (Wilmington) like the border here is squiggly. in PA this area is horse country, Wyeth country. but it's only a few miles from North Delaware and Wilmington which both are utter shitholes
anyway more and more the crime gangs from Philly, Chester, Coatesville and Wilmington/Claymont are traversing to very nearby nice areas to do crimes.

$17k per pupil. That is almost $8 *billion.* And they hoover up all that cash while running a district that does less well than other Illinois districts in terms of math and reading competence and where 46% of students engage in "chronic absenteeism."
That's a lot of gravy to keep moving, and a lot of questions that need to be studiously avoided in order to win the support of the teacher unions.

I was on a call with a coworker who lives in San Francisco. He was talking about life in the city. He said that he was kind of mad that the FedEx guy didn't bring the package up the stairs to his front door because he saw it be delivered on his security cameras (which everyone has there) and went down to get it and by the time he got there 45 seconds later, it had been stolen.
He then mentioned that he was glad his catalytic converter hadn't been stolen yet, because it happened to his neighbor three times before the neighbor gave up and got rid of the car.
And he just shrugged it all off. Just the way life is in San Francisco. Sure it sucks, but what can you do?

Oh, yeah. That's been happening at least since the 80s. Grandma realized their charge is involved in a gang, so Grandma ships their charge elsewhere to get them out. But in the new location, the little shithead looks around and realizes they can be a big fish in a little pond. So instead of being a Jr gang member in Los Angeles, they are now a Sr gang member in a small town.
That's how so many gangs named after streets in Los Angeles spread to sub 20K person towns all over the US.

Rode a motorcycle right up US41 from there, right up through south Chicago, up Lakeshore Drive and into the city. All the action was outside the Blackstone Hotel where the DNC had their HQ.
It was all about anti-war. Johnson had announced he would not seek reelection. I had lots of friends that had been drafted. Knew guys that dropped out of engineering school to enlist. I always thought my draft board had lost my records because of everyone I knew, I was the only one who had not been called in for a physical.
My employer had the maintenance contract at the huge atomic energy works at Oak Ridge, TN and was able to get me and every other draft age engineer employee a "critical skills" deferment, even though I was no where near Oak Ridge.
The wild demonstrations in downtown Chicago seemed to me to be fairly safe as long as you weren't up front screaming at the baton-wielding cops. And largely white. Hugely white, in fact.

Obama's rotten fruit in education means that yutes are no longer disciplined for serious infractions unless it is so severe that it attracts media attention. So, the yutes do as they want, the juvenile justice system simply teaches them to be better criminals, and then they spring up full blown as adult career criminals.
The culture in inner cities and increasingly many inner suburbs are toxic for yutes as they don't learn anything other than violence, theft, and mayhem pays off. Republicans by and large avoid the issue for fear of being called racists and Democrats, especially in Chicago, use known criminals for vote harvesting, and other illegal activities.

Well kinda. Its not so much that they messed with the government, its that they messed with the people, and the people's representatives are responding.
Disney painted themselves into a really stupid corner and their response to the bill protecting kids from perversion and filth was like cutting their own throat.
They had the ultimate corporate deal, they were literally a tax-free independent state within Florida, one the size of Manhattan Island. They ran everything independently, because it was such a huge economic boon to the state to have Walt Disney World there that they were given every possible break and special treatment.
But they got so big and built so much infrastructure up that they were trapped: they cannot leave. Its like young Julius Caesar borrowing so much money from so many people that he HAD to succeed or they'd never get paid back. So he ended up in control of them instead of the other way around.
Disney World cannot move. It would cost them hundreds of billions of dollars and where the heck would they go?? So Florida has them by the short and curlies.

We have a similar moment where organized religious leaders are simply not addressing religious concerns as to individuals committing themselves to religious tenets. Instead, too many religious leaders are far more concerned with marketing and social acceptance like the Anglican Church was at the time. Casting a wide net and blaming society for individual misdeeds is a classic bait and switch because the individual in the pew gets cheap absolution because it is society's fault.

That makes a lot of sense big-picture wise. The attack is on western civilization, and art museums and schools are absolutely western civilization. Yeah there might be some wing or 3rd floor dedicated to some ugly masks from the depth of Africa or something, but no one is going to school to make them because you could figure it out fairly easily just looking at one for a while.
But schools dedicated to learning art? And buildings dedicated to preserving, appreciating, and sharing art?
That's white as hell. Sorry, western civilization.

I imagine the elders at the Art Institute to be re-thinking security plans this morning, possibly even moving treasured pieces elsewhere? London during the Blitz, Paris before the Nazis wave, Chicago before new Mayor Johnson?

Don't laugh but a month ago two old ladies 85 and 95 (sisters) were kicked off an Amtrak train coming north out of New Orleans. The conductor told them playing cards in the club care isn't allowed. The police were called and they were taken off the train in Charlottesville. late at night. The conductor told them to stop or go to jail. They had to find a hotel room, and were able to finish the trip the next day. Police camera's backed up their story.
