Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

4 8 coffee.jpg

***

I have it. Do you?

Good morning. 2nd weekend of April, time is flying. I hope you all have a nice Easter Weekend.

Just a couple of friendly reminders this morning.........

1) Enjoy the beverage of your choice.
2) Opine and/or bloviate away the morning in this open thread.
3) Be kind to one another.
4) Just remember the EOBs do not explain the actual costs of your visit to the ER because of those sharp objects.
5) And finally, have a wonderful weekend.

***

Is it dark roasted? That's the only bean lingo I need.

The Coffee Lingo You Need to Find Your New Favorite Beans
Natural vs. washed, blend vs. single-origin. A fruit salad’s worth of flavor notes. You need a cheat sheet to understand how the descriptors on the bag translate to the taste inside each cup.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer
requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:
3/11 – Jasonj asked for prayers for Barbara, his wife, to be added to the list. She had back surgery
recently, and is healing well, but has a long road ahead. Also please add Alex, his son, who is a
quadriplegic with a serious addiction to pain meds.
3/11 – Free Tibet asked for prayers for his friend JR, who is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer
(neuroendocrine version). Thanks to the Horde for everything.
3/15 – NJ asked for prayers for his wife Christina. She had surgery in December which resulted in CRPS
(Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) in her right foot. The pain is interfering with her daily activities and
preventing her from sleeping properly.
3/15 – Half Dozen asked for prayers from the Horde. One of her adult sons was diagnosed with a brain
tumor. They are still evaluating him to decide next steps. It will probably involve brain surgery.
3/19 Update: Her son is in the hospital, and scheduled for surgery to remove the tumor that is at the
point where the spinal cord connects into the brain. They have determined that the tumor has not
spread to other areas of his body. Thanks for the prayers and friendship.
3/15 – Tcn in AK, Hail to the Thief asked for prayers for DH, who goes under the knife on Friday to
remove an old stim from his spinal column. This will allow him to have an MRI, to figure out what to do
about his 3 collapsed disks. Prayers, but optimistic prayers at this point.
3/16 – Cybersmythe continues to request prayers for his friend D.C., an occasional reader of the AoSHQ,
who is in the hospital after having a stroke and some other health issues.
3/27 Update: Cybersmyth’s friend has died, so he requests prayers for her family and that her soul
finds its way home. Cybersmythe has also been laid off and requests prayers from the Horde to find
something new.
3/18 – Megthered asks that the Horde would keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers. Her
husband has to have open heart aortic valve replacement and her daughter has been diagnosed with
lymphoma. They are being treated at Ohio State University and the family has rallied around them.
3/18 – gp asks for prayers for Al, who is homebound, needy, and lonely. He also asks for prayers for
Brian, who is afflicted by the horrible maladies of old age.
4/1 Update: Brian is on the mend from his latest bout of disease.
3/20 – Ladyl asked for prayers for her son, who was hospitalized for a serious infection that happened
after a minor injury.

3/22 – Sal asked for prayers for her sister’s ex, who became very ill while away from home (at his
daughter’s destination wedding). He is in ICU with sepsis and kidney function problems.
3/29 – Notsothoreau asked for prayers for her co-worker, C. He is a young guy and the new
management is grinding him down. Prayers that he can quickly find a new job where he is appreciated.
3/30 – Hrothgar asked for prayers on behalf of Ed L., who is a member of the Moron Gun Club. Ed’s
mother passed away in Hawaii this past weekend. He and his brother will be busy settling her affairs
there (in Hawaii) over the two weeks or so. He did get to see her over the Christmas holiday, which was
a blessing.
4/1 – NaughtyPine’s mom is receiving hospice at home. She’s in decent spirits and seldom has pain; they
are hoping this continues. Prayers also for Dad, who has health problems of his own and is convinced
she’s getting better every day. They recently celebrated 58 years of marriage.
4/6 – Fenelon Spoke asks for continued prayers for the church she serves, that if it’s God’s will they stay
open to the glory of God, through some financial arrangements with either the Open Space Committee
or neighbors who have expressed an interest. She is touched and grateful for the support in various
ways from kindly Horde members. God bless you all! Thanks to all praying for their church patriarch,
Ray. He is doing better than he was a few days ago, and Fenelon so appreciates the prayer support. Also,
thanks for prayers for Jessie, their organist. She is making some recovery and hopes to play for Mother’s
Day. Also, she thanks God and a very kindly poster who has been advocating for FenSon to get a summer
internship with his company. It’s really something FenSon is interested in, so prayers that it can be
worked out would be appreciated.
For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the
prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in
a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with
the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it
to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an
update.

 Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but
the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows
the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

I never knew there was such a thing. But why not, we have all manner of afflictions.
So sorry for your loss.
Today I have gratitude for answered prayers. I have recovered completely from my injury to my knee. No more leg brace or crutches or even a walking stick. I can hold the Warrior tai chi pose for several minutes without pain. They said it would take 2 months and they were right.

28 As I've gotten older, I find I'm paying more attention to the liturgical calendar and I can't help but notice how events in my life align with it.

This time last year, the end of Lent coincided with the end of our family's persecution by CPS. Talk about quality penance! The expungement letter arrived at the end of the liturgical year. Coincidence?

Yesterday, I got notified that my military retirement application has finally been accepted. I out-processed in December, and they rejected two previous applications because reasons. I wonder what joys Easter season will hold?

46 Let's take a peek at what was happening at Anzio this week in 1944. Earlier in the week German artillery shelling had increased substantially.

Apr 7.
CB was put on the spot for sure. [Margin note: Met Gen Truscott, CG VI Corps, on this deal.] A notice was given to do something about the firing and all Div Arty Cmdrs were called in on the session. Nothing in the way of a decision made except to enlarge the CB section. We now will have 9 officers and 12 men.

Apr 8.
Maj Williamson was called back from Naples.
Pressure is really on CB now. We are making a nice set-up with two sub-sections, one for west and one for east halves of the beachhead. Bradstock, RA, has the west sector. I have the east. Major Williamson is a super coordinator.

CB = counterbattery
RA = British Royal Artillery

47 Average hourly earnings meanwhile rose 4.2% year-over-year as of March, the lowest level of wage gains in nearly two years. Price levels have grown at a faster rate than nominal wages over the past three years, marking an erosion of purchasing power among households.

“Wage growth is cooling,” Hamrick continued, “marking further easing of inflation pressure.”

Wages have nothing to do with inflation. Workers are a supply that will seek rent at the highest rate available for that skill.
COVID Big Govt overspending added new money to a system that did not have increased values. IN other words, there was no new service or good or value introduced, just new funds to buy the same set of goods and services.

49 Over the last couple of weeks I got absorbed in studying that time the Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople embraced Calvinism in 1631. What a wild episode that was! I've got a blog post on it (link in nic) because it's just so weird. The anathemas pronounced against Cyril Lucaris were epic. I actually printed one of the off because it's so over the top.

Cyril's tenure had a bit of drama. Deposed for times, anathematized twice, he met his end when church rivals told the Sultan he was going to cause a rebellion if something wasn't done. He was off'd in the traditional way (Janissary using a bowstring) but Alexandrian Patriarchy canonized him as a martyr just a few years ago.

There's a free translation of both of the earlier councils and the Synod of Jerusalem in 1672 which was my source material. Neat stuff.

The Killer Kittens From Outer Space, Stirling and Dagny, are trotting around and chasing each other back and forth. Last night they were staring with that hard "Prey! I killed it, then distributed catnip to the spotters -- much more appreciated by them, I think, than hard cat treats.

56 Just received yet another 8# shipment of green coffee beans that need to be roasted.

Its hard to say these words but, "I think I have too much coffee". SweetMarias.com has a subscription service where they periodically ship a certain amount of coffee, and based on years of consumption patterns, it worked out.

But now, for reasons, I am not roasting for family members and co-workers - and the beans are piling up.

Also not doing as much cold brew, which uses prodigious amounts of beans for relatively low yield in coffee syrup.

57 The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and Pharisees assembled before Pilate. 63“Sir,” they said, “we remember that while He was alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64So give the order that the tomb be secured until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come and steal Him away and tell the people He has risen from the dead. And this last deception would be worse than the first.

The Pharisees were sneaky manipulative bastards that ended up making the story even better!

Depends on the church. The United Methodists drove my saintly grandparents out in their old age because they weren't willing to embrace the woke agenda. I talked with my grandmother about it after I entered the Catholic Church and she remarked that it mystified her. "What we were taught as children should still be true today." She said it broke my grandfather's heart. They did have his funeral at their old church and the place was packed.

So when I see one of their buildings for sale, I smile.

72 Wages have nothing to do with inflation.

If anything, wages are a lagging indicator.

What I find interesting is that with the propaganda and government edicts pushing more EV this and that, one would think that the components for more batteries and motor components would be in greater demand and pushing up commodity prices.

Not at all, demand destruction is occurring everywhere, which helps rationalize OPEC+'s production reduction and the commodity prices for lithium and other REMs falling.

The propaganda doesn't even come close to reflecting reality.

An amazing disconnect. A company's value to a city has nothing to do with providing jobs and all that social goodness that comes with responsibility and production; the point and purpose for allowing a business to occupy an address within the city's boundary is to magically provide endless streams of string-less money in ever increasing quantities with no relationship whatsoever to the city's own social, political, practical and financial health.

85 I have a theory of inflation which includes that we enjoyed a few decades of significant gains fueled by advances in technology nd, declining energy costs and tighter supply chains. These deflationary forces and lowering prices, but the Fed has been eating this up by wanting modest inflation. So the Fed could accept deficit spending. But it's run out of capacity.

I view the end of dollar hegemony to be a good thing. The US had balanced budgets and limited government in large part because we had to compete with other currencies. The dollar had to be sound - backed with gold. We could end that only because there was no other alternative. As they emerge, our currency is going to get hammered, bond vigilantes will start to come back and some sort of discipline will out of necessity emerge.

There are numerous extremely leftist members of the hierarchy in the RCC, yet I am sorry when RC close because I know people who have had their hearts broken because their churches have closed

Why not pray for revival for all the pastors in church that are true to their "orthodox" views of years ago.

105 “Creating ICD-10 codes that can be tracked via claims would provide health insurance providers key information to help increase immunization rates,” they added.

The CDC is pushing for ICD-10 codes to indicate vaxx status. That is, you will have a code attached to your medical profile indicating if you have the Clot Shot, it you have the Clot Shot and boosters and a separate code for not having the Clot Shot.

I did not know that a person can be assigned an ICD-10 code for not having a medical condition. The CDC is further pushing to have the reason why attached to a Not Clot Shotted status (e.g. "contraindicated" vs "belief or group pressure").

The CDC laughingly says that they won't have access to this status but expects the non-Clot-Shotted to be targets for counseling and special attention to get them filled with Ba'al Gates Death Vaxx.

106 I know book thread's tomorrow, but I had to speak now about this one just finished yesterday, Noah Hawley's 2018 novel "A Conspiracy of Tall Men."

Some very small time conspiracy theorists come up against the deep state and big pharma. A commercial flight with 175 aboard, New York headed for Rio, is bombed and crashes near Orlando, killing all aboard, including one of the theorist's wife.

This is before the Wuhan flu is even a speck in someone's imagination. It is amazing how this leftist author, writing in the age of Trump, can spin such a cool story about how deep and dangerous the government can be. Engineered virus, martial law, total government takeover.

It's clear that if one is to beat the deep state and their guns and battle wagons, it's gonna take a lot more than conservatives behind their house doors with ARs and 10 thousand rounds of 5.56.

Bingo. If you have windows, you can also discretely look out and if there's lots of cars with flashing lights, that would also be a clue.

Ayoob's advice is never, ever answer the door with a gun in your hand. If it's intruders, assume a defensive posture and call the cops. Open fire only when they've broken in, not before.

145 Where has it ever been acceptable to greet law enforcement with a gun in your hand?

Pretty much anywhere a few generations ago. Then again, the police usually did a better job of making sure they got the damned address correct before storming the place.

Again, law enforcement, particularly since they received all of that 1033 gear but absolutely no training in lawful civil engagement have been a menace to society.

His advice for these hypothetical scenarios depends entirely on everyone acting and reacting in accordance with his tidy little script. Life isn't that clean. The cops come busting in, one of the amped up guys fires, pack behavior kicks in and they all start shooting. Or one of them yells "gun" when there's nothing in your hand and they all start shooting. Or they start screaming unintelligible and contradictory commands at you, then start shooting because you couldn't simultaneously crawl toward them and walk backwards to them with your hands on your head. So these neat clean scenarios he posits where the cops are all rational and conscientious and act with a bias toward not blowing away someone they shouldn't don't exist very often outside his own head.

227 Lo these many years ago when I was in law school and the world was more or less sane, a classmate considered creating a line of fashionable Kevlar clothing. His mother was appalled. "It's just giving in to them!" she said. I think there may have been some practical difficulties with creating stylish Kevlar.

I think that was at the same time when Tazing as a matter of standard law enforcement salutations became part of the culture. Some people were working on a fashion line that weaved into the fabric means to diffuse the electrical shock.

One of the bests lessons I learned years ago was how to feel "content" rather than "lonesome" when by myself ... I found much peace by considering that the "alone" times may have been arranged by my heavenly Father so that the two of us could engage uninterrupted in quality conversation.

The cops should be charged with manslaughter. Or criminal negligence causing death.

The guy should not have opened the door. How does he know it's cops, and not home invaders posing as cops?

First I'm hearing of this. My thought is: we can no longer assume that the cops are the good guys. Anyone coming to my home should expect that I will defend myself.

No church which I have served has ever-or will ever have- a rainbow flag or a BLM flag. We have two flags in our sanctuary, a Christian flag and the American flag, and to be fair to the pastors that preceded me who may have been more "progressive" than I am, they didn't have rainbow flags either, but the BLM grift and violence was happening when I was a pastor.

the BF-110 cockpit originally had padding on the inside to protect the pilot from being thrown about in sudden maneuvers, however, Goering in his role as head of the Luftwaffe got stuck in one during an inspection and decreed it was too small for anyone to sit in so changes were made

It is rumored that Hesse, when he tried to defect to England, was unable to continue dodging the RAF because he hadn't been strapped himself in correctly for the newer version of BF-110 and was shaken around in the the modified cockpit.
