Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Report — 4/5/23Not that what happened to Trump is essentially a precedent given the fact that Barack Obama travelled around the world apologizing for the nation he led, and absolutely despised. Obama and his flea circus debased and dragged this nation through the mud. His most stunning act of betrayal and destruction was erasing almost a half century of real civil rights gains, comity and at least a modicum of tolerance between blacks and whites and turning us into a mostly peaceful Sarajevo circa 1992. In many ways, worse than that. But I digress. Assuming for a moment that elections really can and will make a difference given all of the above, I'd be lying to you if I said what is being done to President Trump has not swayed my opinion of who to support at the top of the ticket. Then again, as I have been asserting for quite some time now, America as it was or as we thought it was is now gone. This is not about elections anymore. It is about national/societal survival and perhaps very soon now, our own personal survival. We are in a pre-revolutionary phase, if we have not gone beyond that. The question is, a revolution that will bring about what? A revival and restoration, or, descent into some sort of totalitarian nightmare; what Churchill described on the eve of the Battle of Britain as "new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science." Boy, does that line just jump out at you, given today's context? The arrest of Donald Trump in Manhattan Tuesday marked the end of the American republic in which citizens could trust that authorities were impartial and scrupulous in the administration of justice, and the dawning of an authoritarian and thuggish regime in which the full power of the legal apparatus is used to persecute the regime’s foes, no matter how much the laws must be twisted in order to achieve the desired result . . . . . . The case against Trump is thus even weaker than it was expected to be. But Bragg and his handlers are likely calculating that the substance of the case doesn’t matter. Whoever is behind Bragg’s reckless and destructive persecution of Trump is apparently calculating that the prospect of a presidential candidate battling such a long list of felony charges will give distracted and indifferent voters the impression that Trump must have committed some terrible crime, and frighten them away. There has never before been a presidential candidate under indictment, and Democrats appear to be banking on the proposition that most Americans are still unaware that the old republic has passed away, and that the criminal might not be the one who is indicted, but the one doing the indicting. . . . . . The legal persecution of Donald Trump is a prelude to what this authoritarian regime plans to unleash upon law-abiding Americans if they dare to dissent from its sinister agenda. The feds have already sent this message by sending a SWAT team to arrest a peaceful pro-life activist, Mark Houck. Trump is the big prize, but his arrest is intended primarily to send a new message to the American people: fall in line, or else.Much handwringing over the fact of whether or not we as individuals and/or groups should or should not have engaged in protest, be it J6 and afterwards has gone on both here and elsewhere in the blogosphere. Of course it is now a provable fact and axiomatic that the FBI, DOJ or name your other neo-Gestapo/Stasi agency of the junta will infiltrate it and be the instigators of violence to be used as a pretext for whatever "enabling act" they can conjure to outlaw us. And there are those angry at Trump for going after his accusers. But look at what he is saying, not his style, but the words he is saying and tell me he's wrong, misguided or even not within his rights, or what used to be his rights, to express. No, my friends. We are now damned if we do and damned if we don't. So, is it better to sit on our hands for fear of being mischaracterized and blood-libeled, or have them invent "white supremacist terrorists" and dress them in MAGA gear and glowie-brand chinos and docksiders or speak up, and face the very real consequences? It is rapidly approaching a moment of not having anything to lose. And that scares the shit out of me. Regardless of all of this, and it is a clunky segue if not appropriate, the Jewish holiday of Passover is upon us yet again. For all you non-members of Tribe or those unaware, it is a holiday commemorating God's deliverance from bondage and oppression and, more crucially, how in every generation, there are those who seek to put us in chains and oppress us; it is a warning to be vigilant and to trust in the Lord. The revolutions of the past come and go. Nations rise and fall, and then fall further into the history books. Passover however was a remarkable revolt not just against an empire, but paganism, and it remains relevant even all these thousands of years later. In a recent poll, only 39% said that religion was very important to them. That’s down from 62% a generation ago. When faith in G-d leaves, what replaces it isn’t some abstraction of ‘reason’: it’s superstition (37% of adults under 30 believe in astrology), cults of personality, conspiracy theories and the conviction that we are now gods who can destroy the planet and change gender at will. The story of Passover is a testament of faith: it’s the account of an absolutely degraded people still continuing to believe for centuries and later millennia that their salvation, passed down by tradition, would come from a G-d they had never seen or heard, but it’s also the revelation that slavery is not just physical, it’s spiritual. Just as true liberation comes from G-d, true slavery comes when we abandon faith and degrade ourselves under the soulless tyranny of paganism. . . . . . Passover immerses Jews in the tyranny of paganism and the liberation of G-d. It is not merely a memorialization of the past, or the anxieties of the present, but the promise of the future. Keeping the faith means knowing, as the Jews of Egypt or those in Auschwitz did, that there is more to the world than the power of any tyrant: to his chains, laws and social credit systems.Keep the faith. Ziessen Pesach.

I said a version of this yesterday, and I will say it again: the Trump indictment has been a known thing for at least a week if not longer. That was plenty of time for the congressional GOP to game out a 'freeze congress' scenario where they would shut the government down in its tracks and zero out every federal agency. It was plenty of time for red state DAs across the country to prepare indictments for Hillary, Pelosi, Schumer, Mayorkas, Obama or any high-profile Dem, ready to drop the moment Trump was taken in. None of that has been done. It will never be done. But please, tell me again how voting harderer next year makes any fucking difference at all. From Gorka:
The truth is that the Democrat Party no longer represents the “little man,” or the working class. Instead, it has become a bicoastal political class of elitists who see those who disagree with them as the problem, especially the 74 million who voted for a man who was never a member of the political class. They have become “The Party.” And just as with the Party of the erstwhile Soviet Union, those who dare challenge their writ must be neutralized. amen Posted by: rhennigantx at April 05, 2023 08:00 AM (BRHaw) 10

Wisconsin: Turnout uninspiring. I have an idea for a 'poison pill' which would drive rural voters to the polls in numbers high enough to outweigh the cities (Madison was something like 83% to 17% D). The state GOP works to put poison pill tax issues on the ballot in as many localities as possible. Something totally frivolous, costly, and unnecessary like midnight pickleball courts throughout the town. Taxes would have to skyrocket. Drive the hard working taxpayers to the polls in high enough numbers to nullify the cities, where abortion access seems to be their single issue. If you are a senior citizen in NY and haven't moved South, 99% likelihood you are liberal as sin...and if you're under 65 and not working or raising kids, you're also probably 99% liberal. Think what you want about former President Trump and the reasons he’s being indicted.
But just imagine if this happened in any other country, where a government arrested the main opposition candidate. The United States ability to use “democracy” as foreign policy is gone. ++++ Far from it. The US's official support of Ukraine is under the banner of "Democracy." Z-man has done all of this and more. Outlawed opposition, closed competing churches, etc. "Democracy" in Ukraine is just Z-man's dictatorship - and we pouring treasure into fighting for that dictatorship at alarming rates. Look at how difficult it's been for the MO AG to get rid of that cancerous Prosecuting Attorney in St. Louis. Thus, they are protected by the System and will never face the justice they deserve. I remember when the people of Operation Rescue lost a huge civil case and each person was ordered by the court to pay a quarter million each to Planned Parenthood.
One of the defendants came forward and said the ruling was liberating because, he had absolutely no intention of giving the butchers any of the money and would forever live under the income threshold before the State would garnish the surplus and pay PP. It was liberating because there was no motivation to work hard and make money. I feel sort of the same way with the direction We The People have chosen - that is, to once and for all destroy the Great Experiment and to bury to be forgotten American Exceptionalism. Why invest in beyond just getting through the day without getting murdered or looted? It is no different than the Jews in the days of Samuel, when they rejected the federalism they had and demanded to be ruled by a tyrant - even when they were told about how life would be oppressive under one. They demanded it anyway, and made sure that the light of freedom would never find its way among them again. Posted by: Reuben Hick at April 05, 2023 08:17 AM (YXHzG) 66

Posted by: JackStraw at April 05, 2023 08:20 AM (ZLI7S) ++++ It isn't entirely apathy. That is probably the dominant factor, but another one is the perception that it's irrelevant and pointless at best, or supporting an illegitimate and fraudulent system by participating in it at worst. The problem as I see it is that this perception appears to match reality. One cannot overcome voter apathy - let alone active contempt - when the outcomes are always the same and there is no chance of actual change at scale. How many times can the same robots with different party affiliations after their names get into office and proceed to do the exact same things before people snort in contempt and quite participating? What's needed is populism. In both parties. Let the Dems go after the hardcore leftwing populists and promise to wreck up the joint on their behalf. Let the Pubs go after the rest of the market and promise to wreck up the left on their behalf. Then actually do it. Give people something to vote *for* - and make that vote count - and people will crawl over broken glass to do it. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at April 05, 2023 08:28 AM (t0OGg) 112

17 Now on the first day of the Feast of the Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”
18 And He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.” ’ ” 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover. Social Security has been running annual deficits since 2010, when it had a shortfall of $49 billion. The Labor Participation Rate has been falling steadily since around the year 2000. A short uptick when Trump took office until covid, then started dropping again. If the correct % of people work, Social Security works. Unfortunately it doesn't seem as if people want to work - and if they do, they're miserable. I heard on the news yesterday that more then 50% of people are looking to change jobs in this year. One of my favorite parts of Passover is an almost adjunct part of it. During the Seder, there is the subject of The Four Sons, and how the Passover should be explained to them The Four Sons are the Wise Son, the Wicked Son, the Simple Son, and the Son Who Has Yet No Ability to Understand.
The Wise Son is to be answered completely, for he can understand the full answer. The Wicked Son is to be excluded - the salvation of the Exodus was not for his benefit, but for the benefit of the good. The Simple Son is to be given a simplified answer, and encouraged to find the rest of the answer himself to overcome his indolence. The Son Who Has Yet No Ability to Understand is to be given a similar simple answer because it is all he can know at the moment. It wraps up four basic human conditions - the good, the bad, the indifferent and the unable - very nicely, and reinforces the story in the direct address of each archetype. This whole part of the Seder has grown on me over the years. It's actually very sophisticated, and is so simple that it's easy to miss it. That's the question nobody seems to talk about. If we have another conflict - what should those weapons systems look like ? A smaller number of superior designs - or a larger number of weapons that a country can continue to manufacture. One things for sure, even a cold war is going to change not only military design, but economies. In WWII - countries all held their own means of production. The global tension, in large part, came from a search for raw resources like oil, tungsten, and rubber. Now ? It wouldn't matter if we had a direct funnel from God of all the raw resources we desire - we can't make them into much of anything on our own. China, OTOH, has access to all the resources she desires - but doesn't have the skill to use all the manufacturing built by foreign powers on Chinese lands. Neither side can sustain a conflict - because neither side can replace their own losses. I don't think anyone can now. Posted by: Perfect Hair at April 05, 2023 08:50 AM (iQE+/) 202

Kind of hard to work when Manhattan sent the jobs to China and India.
Look at the barely functional mental and physical defects graduating from government schools. Employers have a very difficult time finding someone who will show up to work reliably and not high or hung-over. Many jobs require clean and sober and many people have criminal records and drug habits. I imagine a huge reason why blue cities are reducing felonies to misdemeanors and dismissing most crimes is so that the young offender doesn't have a record that hypothetically keeps them from having a job. But how much of the apathy is driven by the lazy, stupid GOP that has not had a new idea since Reagan?
If the courts are a moral choice-- what's right and what's wrong--without knowing, I'll bet good money the GOP campaign was: "I am the conservative conservative who will conserve the conservative. And rule of law or something. IDK, conservative!" If 2022 was the swing voters voting against their economic interests, then that means their pocketbook was overruled by their emotions. You beat apathy with emotion. Not tax cuts. Not tired old slogans. Not promises of bipartisanship or civility. Trump brings emotion. My thoughts say were are enduring a full blown political and social Marxist insurgencies that would have been much closer to a full take over if PDJT had not blown up their momentum. It is because of this that PDJT has been under relentless attacks since he emerged. Yesterday was nothing new and at the same time a breathtaking escalation with more looming. Our American culture has the odd ability to bring forth the right people at the right time such as our founders, Lincoln, or Reagan. As I mull over if Trump is one of those leaders, in spite of his short comings, I also ask if the other candidates are up to the task of being on that list. The binary choice I see is do I cast my lot with a warrior or administrators. Yesterday Trump showed his war face. Insurgencies are not defeated by administrators. God speed PDJT. Give 'em hell. Huge part of America, probably a majority, prefer to rule over the rest far more than they want freedom.
That is what happens when you have DIY morality. Under pseudo theocratic cultures (where there is a very dominant religious faith and transcendent moral code) you have appeals to a shared value system to uphold civilization. Under a multi-cultural system that has a very large segment of their society that is estranged from transcendent moral codes (either ignorant or rebellious to) there is a tendency for people to make ad hoc value judgements and then demand that this is how others should behave. Sort of like a whole society of Dunning-Kruger gods Posted by: Reuben Hick at April 05, 2023 09:06 AM (YXHzG) 257

We really need to stick all the "urban centers" into their own state. They'd still get representatives, but they'd have to share two senators among them, and they couldn't pass any laws that affect the civilized regions of the country. There's nothing in the constitution that requires a state to be contiguous -- and in fact, there are states that aren't. Michigan. Hawaii (and any state with islands, which is gonna be most of them). But how much of the apathy is driven by the lazy, stupid GOP that has not had a new idea since Reagan?
Never forget, the GOP didn't want Reagan either. This always kills me when we talk all matters GOP. The GOP was a Northeastern dominated party before Reagan - the nominated the patriarch of a Northeastern family to be his minder (Bush the Elder) and they went with the son of the Northeastern patriarch at their first opportunity (Bush the Younger). It's not that the GOP hasn't had any new ideas since Reagan. It's that the party never wanted the ideas of Reagan to begin with. Ham 'n Egger McCarthy: “I think this indictment, even before you get to the statute of limitations and whether he’s got jurisdiction to enforce federal law, I would dismiss it on its face because it fails to state a crime.”
I believe Bragg is banking on no judge or appeals court in New York State being brave enough to dismiss the case. Judges would risk not being re-elected and far worse. If the case goes to trial, Bragg is banking that any Manhattan jury he helps select will convict Trump. For both Trump-hate political and personal safety reasons. For those reasons, Bragg must figure he can try and convict Trump on anything he can charge as a felony, with the flimsiest of evidence. We will see what happens.
