Good morning, kids. It seems like I keep writing the sentence "While what happened yesterday is completely unsurprising, it is nonetheless horrifying and disgusting in the extreme." They actually went ahead and took the unprecedented (for good reason) action of indicting a former president. Let me say that if a former president was provably guilty beyond the most stringent level of reasonable doubt in any serious crime, he should have to face the consequences. Don't chuckle when I say this but no one is above the law.

With that out of the way, and despite being completely Rubicon'd out, they crossed a freaking huge one. Or did they? We keep saying this and what's the result? Nothing. "Zilch, zero, nada," as Rush Limbaugh, PBUH, used to say.

For the first time in American history, a politician – indeed, a front-running presidential candidate – has been indicted in order to destroy his political chances. Americans used to take pride in the fact that such things didn’t happen in the United States of America. But that United States of America is over.
Donald Trump has been indicted on the thinnest of charges. House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan, House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer, and House Administration Committee chairman Bryan Steil recently wrote a letter to Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, the destroyer of the republic, pointing out that “even the Washington Post quoted ‘legal experts’ as calling your actions ‘unusual’ because ‘prosecutors have repeatedly examined the long-established details but decided not to pursue charges.’”
. . . the whole thing rests on a novel legal theory. Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA tweeted: “Alvin Bragg lowered 52% of criminal charges in NYC last year to misdemeanors. He just bent over backwards legally to raise the charges against Trump to a felony. WITCH HUNT!!”
That it certainly is, and worse. Former TV and radio host John Cardillo warned: “Don’t downplay the severity of this indictment. There’s still another GJ in NYC, one in GA, and a federal one connected to the Special Counsel investigation. We are watching the political weaponization of our entire criminal justice system. This is a constitutional crisis.”
Much more is coming. Many are saying that the indictment hands Trump the election of 2024, but it’s actually designed to do just the opposite, and the designers are not stupid people. The objective is to prevent Trump from being able to run in 2024, or failing that, to make it impossible for him to win. The average American still has unreflective confidence in our institutions, and will assume from the very fact of Bragg’s indictment, and the others that are certain to come, that Trump must be some kind of criminal. The flimsiness of the cases won’t matter. The public perception will be formed, and that could be enough in himself to make sure that Trump doesn’t return to the Oval Office on Jan. 20, 2025. . .
. . . For the first time in the history of the United States, a sitting president, such as he is, [Biden] declared that his principal opponent and his opponent’s supporters were criminals who were outside the bounds of acceptable political discourse. Now the ruling Leftists elites have taken the next step in indicting Trump. After that will come various measures to treat his supporters as if they were terrorists.
This is a dark day for the United States. If there are any Democrats with integrity left, they would join the House Republicans who have already gone on record decrying this, and stop it before it’s too late.

That was friend and commentator extraordinaire Robert Spencer. He ends the dire warning of his essay on a hopeful note but I can't see it coming. There are far too few Republicans with any integrity and for sure no Democrats with any. And do not confuse temporary triangulation with it. Like other essayists and commentators who are stating that this is the death of the republic, I'm glad their eyes are seemingly open to what's going on but this is not the death of the republic. Nor is it the final nail in the coffin, nor the funeral nor even the burial. This is the pissing on the grave. That is assuming the republic died of natural causes, instead of being dispatched in typical Leftist fashion with a bullet in the head or in a gas chamber.

In the next episode of the podcast, coming a bit later this morning in the sidebar and at CJN, I finally was able to articulate a point through my babbling that I have been trying to get across for quite a while. CBD and other outstanding colleagues and commentators, regardless of who they back at the top of the ticket, feel that the road back really runs through the local level and the states. Citing victories in school boards and such that saw even purplish-blue Virginia go red with Youngkin and Sears, they are of the opinion that these issues, articulated and stridently fought for will yield electoral victory.

My fly in the ointment to that is of course a Junta and an entire bureaucracy that disregards the 9th and 10th amendments (except when it suits their insane agenda like sanctuary cities and states) and at some point just stripping places like Florida or Texas or wherever of their statehood or just shit-canning federalism altogether. At that point, all bets would be off. Or would they?

CBD also cited the Reagan revolution in 1980 that gave us the shining city on a hill, after four years of Carter's "malaise" and destruction, that itself was in the wake of Nixon, Vietnam and the counterculture upheaval of the 60s. Yes it was a shining era, as were the first three years of Donald Trump, the media notwithstanding. The even bigger Seth Brundel in the AstroGlide is this: the American psyche of 1980 that ushered in a golden age of Reagan and a national revival is not the same as the American psyche of 2023. I linked a post yesterday or the day before that of course I can't find now showing that American youth's feelings of patriotism, about our culture and society are plunging to all-time lows. Is it any wonder, given that the educational system is nothing more than a brainwashing mill of anti-American, anti-Western and anti-God poison so effective to make even Lenin rotting in Hell jealous as where he is.

How can there be an American revival if our children, and generations to come – if they aren't yanked out of the womb on the end of a D&C scraper or have their genitals cut off and turned into freak – have been preprogrammed to hate it?

Too many of us, me included, are living in the past, inside of our heads, inside of a perception of how things should be; a wistful memory of days gone by as if they still exist, despite what we can see plain as day with our lying eyes, while having apoplectic seizures, like Gunny Hartmann screaming at Private Joker in the latrine as to why no one isn't grabbing the M-14 out of Private Pyle's hands and stomping the living shit out of him, only to be told that the gun is locked and loaded as Pyle aims it at them, point blank. There's your metaphor for the day, folks.

It is a shattering thing to see things as they really are and accept that instead of hoping against hope and living in denial that what we are living through here and now is actually happening.

Take a good look; the transexual fiends, ironically enough (along with every other so-called "victim" group that are nothing more than political and in many cases actual cannon fodder for the Democrat-Left) are wearing the skin suit of the Warsaw Ghetto martyrs and taking aim at the Waffen SS vowing to go down swinging and strike a blow for freedom. The reality of course is just the opposite.

In a few days, the shock and numbness will subside and we'll continue to battle it out over Trump vs Desantis – as if the Junta will allow them to win an election. Here's a scenario to ponder: whatever happens with this debasement of justice, Trump runs and actually wins. That is, they allow him to win. Then, the Left freaks out and engineers another dossier showing Trump and his allies rigged elections in the swing states and stole the votes from disenfranchised colored people of color. Vanilli Milley moves in, arrests Trump and his associates for treason, summarily executes them in the Rose Garden, outlaws the GOP, seizes control of the internet and cellphone communications and then declares a "temporary" state of emergency. "Two decades to flatten the curve."

Sound crazy? God help me but to me it actually sounds quite plausible. PS: there was a mostly peaceful insurrection in the Tennessee state house demanding gun confiscation, but no one seems at all interested in that since it was mostly peaceful.

139 My gut feeling right now concerning 2024: if it's Trump vs. Biden, Trump has a good chance of winning because the contrast between the two administrations is obvious, and Joetato's mental deterioration is getting harder and harder to hide. In that case you may have people who hate Trump voting for him anyway as the lesser of two evils, or not voting at all, because Joetato is so much obviously worse.

But if Joetato doesn't run and Trump goes up against ANY other Dem, even Kamala, he will probably lose because the other Dem will appear -- or be made by the media and Dems to appear --to be a lesser evil in comparison to Trump. There are still sooo many people who think all of the drama and crises of the past 7+ years is Trump's fault.

I totally get that. Also I note in Genesis that the negotiating with Abraham over Sodom was whether God would destroy them or not. Nothing about fixing the problem, just wiping them out.

OTOH, Ninevah was about Repent or Perish, and the people repented and that generation flourished.

Having didn't my life in the service industry, there is a point at which any particular employee will become overrun with the volume at which the demands come at them. In my business we call that "being in the weeds" or "being weeded". Its well known, and all service employs will reference it when asked how their work day was.

One thing you learn over time is that generally if you are in the weeds, most likely your coworkers are as well. So the reality is that no one is coming to help you. You must simply endure. It's very difficult and feels much like you are going to crack, because what was once a smooth operating system gets overwhelmed and mistakes start happening, which further exacerbated the situation.

During these times, it's important to focus on one thing at a time, deal with it, get it out if the way, and move in to the next. You must calm your mind, and after a while you may again start multitasking.

China can't feed or fuel itself, it needs food, minerals and oil/coal which Russia has in spades.

What China lacks, Russia has. And vice versa.

Only two places on this planet can be hyper-powers: a unified Europe, or a unified North America. No place else has the population, economic potential, food security, resource wealth and defensible borders necessary to do it. Not even at the height of the Cold War was the USSR a hyper power. They got close - thanks to subjugation of all of Eastern Europe and chunks of West Asia - but they were merely a superpower and it was historically unusual, the fruits of a historically unusual war where they got a lot of material help from the *other* superpower.

There will be no next hyper power. When we fall, no one country or bloc will fill the vacuum. It will return to the historical norm of multiple large powers with shifting spheres of influence and low-grade conflicts at the frontiers of those regions.

Yes, but it tends to be self-perpetuating. When facing crises, most people respond with tackling minutia. Minutia is easy.

For a low-grade example, take personal bankruptcy. A person loses his job or whatever, and suddenly there's much less money coming in. The family starts running out of money, so they start cutting expenditures. They stop going out to eat, or the forgo that daily Starbucks, or they cancel cable. Minutia, that's easy to deal with.

But the problem wasn't the $100/month Starbucks habit. No, that can't be afforded anymore, but it won't save the finances when the mortgage is $2,000 and the cars are $1,100 and the monthly income is only $2,800 when it used to be $5,000. Much, much bigger things have to be dealt with - but that is much harder, and much more existentially relevant. It's easier to tackle the minutia.

Do that at a civilization scale, and you get the prelude to collapse.

I think they'd probably like to avoid martyrdom if they can. They want him disqualified from running, probably under the assumption that politically destroying Trump will destroy his political movement. People get weird when you kill off their leaders, which is one of the costs of assassination.

So I put outright murder at fairly low odds, just for pragmatic reasons. I think they're after hamstringing his campaign and finding a pretense to disqualify him and lock him away to keep him quiet. Unlike domestic terrorists, Trump will have no prisoner book deal or PBS specials or press interviews.

Although that's not what conservatives do, out of the 74 million Trump supporters, it's a simple mathematical certainty that a few people who see themselves as true patriots will believe it is up to them to restore justice to the country. I believe that instead of the usual "fringe" individuals, there will be successful, stable, America loving men with resources and a drive to restore the country for the sake of their grandchildren. It would be a safe bet that high profile bureaucrats who tried to remove Trump will be the focus of their actions. At this point, I don't know how anyone could stop this.

They are, but even if that is the goal (it might be), having Trump alive is more valuable for that, too. Let a few protests happen without interference so the next ones grow, then crack down hard. With a dead Trump, they only get one opportunity to do it and people are skittish after Jan 6.

I think they'll kill him if they think they need to, I just doubt it's Plan A.

My theory is that the Deep State has the plan in place to rig and steal the 2024 election. Just as they did for the 2020 election. But, as evidenced by the massive vote totals for President Trump in 2020, they know he has massive support. In order to try to make their steal job easier, they are taking all these actions now to peel off as much of his support as possible.

But I have no doubt that the rig and steal is on for 2024. All their actions are simply ways to try to make it easier for them. This the consequence of rigged & stolen elections & everyone saying "stop talking about the rigged & stolen elections & focus on future policies" (that will never be enacted, because a Republican cannot win).

It isn't amazing at all, nor is it nefarious. When you have a situation where the political structure is essentially a binary, where one power group follows the rules and the other power group breaks them, it is unsurprising that the group that breaks the rules gets investigated and charged and arrested while the group that doesn't, doesn't.

This is the system in this country. The Republican Party - and the conservative movement generally, especially the "MAGA" sub-movement - operates with general criminality. They break the rules. They lie, cheat, steal, commit violence, launder money, generate manufactured consent through the press, etc. The Democratic Party - and the progressive movement generally - does not. There have been a few bad apples in the progressive movement (like Rep. William Jefferson), but they are not the norm.

That's the difference. Trump is the norm among conservatives. His criminality is the way they do business. Conservatives are often prosecuted because they're often criminals.

I think this hits the nail on the head. I think Ron DeSantis is basically a good guy. He's not the enemy. But the GOPe is so thoroughly compromised as a Party, and there are numerous mercenaries in the "party" that will do anything for money. Yes it has but most of the cases are relatively old. Prior to Scotus ruling in Puerto Rico v. Branstad, the older precedent of Kentucky v. Dennison held that extradition was a political question and thus not justiciable in federal courts. The Puerto Rico case overturned that century old doctrine in the 80's and now allows federal courts to enforce extradition if the state refuses to do so unless some relatively minor considerations exist such as no charging, not a fugitive, and so on.

The caveat though is that Puerto Rico holds a unique role here and Scalia in his concurrence noted that no one brought up whether a territory/commonwealth was similar in sovereignty to a state.

100% correct. This is not about obsessive hatred of President Trump. This is about Western elites' obsessive hatred of regular people. The peaceful way out was taken away as an option in November 2020. The right to vote was eliminated for all Americans in November 2020. There is no peaceful way to get it back, especially when the majority of people/pundits on the right refuse to admit that the 2020 election was rigged and stolen and refuse to admit that it is the only issue that matters. People keep pushing to "move on" and "focus on future policies". Future policies that have zero chance of being implemented, because the candidates who push them have zero chance of being elected, because the right to vote has been eliminated.

Until the 2020 (and 2022) rigged and stolen election is addressed, people face consequences for it and the process is fixed, there is no way forward.

Yes. It is a big win. The point is they got him for something. Al Capone did not go down for any number of his more serious illegal actions, but was taken down for tax evasion. Was not "big", but he went down nonetheless.

Same applies here. People can laugh this off and make clever comments and jokes all they want. This is not a laughing matter. The fact that so many people and pundits on the right are treating it as such is the problem.
