DOJ Finally Makes a Single Arrest In the Pregnancy Counselling Center Firebombings Case

How a half-eaten burrito led to charges in the firebombing of an anti-abortion officeFederal authorities say they've charged a suspect in connection with the firebombing of an anti-abortion lobbying group's office in Wisconsin -- nearly a year later, and with the help of a half-eaten burrito. The Department of Justice announced on Tuesday that it had arrested Madison, Wis., resident Hridindu Sankar Roychowdhury, 29, at an airport in Boston. He had a one-way ticket to Guatemala, the agency said. He has been charged with one count of attempting to cause damage by means of fire or an explosive, court documents show. "According to the complaint, Mr. Roychowdhury used an incendiary device in violation of federal law in connection with his efforts to terrorize and intimidate a private organization," Matthew Olsen, assistant attorney general of the DOJ's National Security Division, said in a statement.No actual terrorism charges, though. No "insurrection" charges. No even any "parading" charges.
If convicted, Roychowdhury would face a mandatory minimum penalty of five years and a maximum of up to 20 years in prison. "Violence is never an acceptable way for anyone to express their views or their disagreement," Robert Wells, assistant director of the FBI's Counterterrorism Division, said in a statement. "Today's arrest demonstrates the FBI's commitment to vigorously pursue those responsible for this dangerous attack and others across the country, and to hold them accountable for their criminal actions."Weird how there's so much terrorism in this case but no charges of actual terrorism. In January, a "protester" spraypainted the terroristic threat "We will get revenge" in cursive at the state capitol to protest the shooting of an antifa shooter at that Atlanta cop training center construction site. The threat looked like the threat painted on the wall of the family counseling center. They identified the threat-maker as owning a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, I guess maybe by following him through surveillance footage back to his vehicle. On March 1, an observer spotted the truck, and saw the terrorist drop a fast food bag out of his car. Littering, I think. The bag contained a half-eaten burrito. They swabbed that for DNA and found it matched the DNA sample Assigned Male at Collection from the pregnancy counseling center. Note that they could have just arrested him based on the match of the spraypainted handwriting, and then compelled a DNA sample. But you wouldn't want to infringe on the Free Speech Rights of an antifa terrorist! Their free speech rights are important! Instead, they left him alone and just got lucky with finding the half-eaten meal.
They went on to accuse liberals of hypocrisy and blamed Democratic leaders like Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers for suggesting "that violence is an acceptable tactic to employ."
Wisconsin officials on both sides of the aisle, including Evers, condemned the attack, as did the White House.
... The next part of the story involves a lot of forensics and a bit of fast food.

So these centers exist to give women other options and support for those options. All part of choice, right? I mean these centers are necessarily opposed to abortion, but they aren't activist centers driving protests, they aren't lobbying, they're just there to help pregnant women out.

The local news did a long story on the legislation and repeatedly referred to pregnancy centers a “anti-abortion centers” as if there was no such thing as a place where pregnant women can get counseling and other resources to assist them while pregnant. I remember seeing a documentary many moons ago, that focused on the "science" of hitting.
One of the tricks of the trade for the batter, if he missed a pitch, was to step out of the box for a minimum of 15 seconds before taking the next pitch.
Statistically, data showed that a batter who didn't re-set himself put in himself in a less advantageous position in terms of getting on base...by a significant percentage.
Thus all the stepping out of the box on each pitch.
That shit adds up over a game...

I was at a lake recently. During winter they lower the lake level. It's still low. I was able to walk near this scary structure where the water is normally passing through at 10,000 gallons a second. You are correct that a batter can have a strike called against him if he steps out of the box once the pitcher is in the act of delivering the ball.

One guy I know postulated that there should be two people, one with a top view of the plate, and another with a side view. Each have 'Jeopardy' buttons. The first clicks if the ball is over the plate, the other clicks if the ball is above the knees/below the armpits ( or waist, or whatever). If both are true, STRIKE.

Well if you want to dispute that, fine but baseball had a resurgence after the dumb strike due to the increase in home runs. The various home run chases brought baseball into a mainstream conversation it had largely been excised from.
Home runs mean money for batters. Plus they strike out plenty now (it just takes longer) which is $$$ for pitchers. So that's the game. Lots of strikeouts and lots of home runs. Economically driven just like the Umpires Union who will never allow robot balls and strikes.

Minor/college versions of most sports far more entertaining, because pros have become such monstrous perfect athletes that .... the actual watchability of the game suffers. Hockey hardest hit. Speaking of which, I'm now counting how long at AHL games before I see a body check away from the boards/not from behind/not some lame "finishing" thing, usually along the boards. It's been several games so far.

Pro aborts will argue that abortion should be a decision made solely between a woman and her doctor.
That's complete bullshit for at least a couple of reasons.
1. No pregnant woman is going to "her doctor" for an abortion. She'll go to a pregnancy termination center and talk to a pregnancy termination counselor who will refer the woman to an abortionist. None of those people is "her doctor." If she has a doctor, it's a general practitioner who is likely not consulted at all in this process.
2. Those people the woman is talking to will either leave the decision up to the woman or will advise abortion. If the woman is wavering in the decision (most likely), the abortion specialists will almost certainly NOT advise the woman to wait and think about it or possibly consider adoption.

Then you're rural. This isn't for rural areas, it's for urban areas. First they convert the cities into prisons, then they force the people in the countryside into the city. First, this is done through deliberate decay - power lines will go down and not be fixed, roads won't be repaired, chain stores will close, etc. For the recalcitrant holdouts, they will try to use force but there won't be many because rural living will become essentially premodern.
This is essentially what "Agenda 21" is all about.

I remember Bill James (the first new statistics guy) noticing that the on base percentage of a batter if a pickoff move to first was in the same at bat was noticably lower. Therefore he (jokingly) suggested all pitchers make a pickoff throw for every batter even if nobody was on base.
He also noted that pitchers that took a long time between pitches had lower had more errors behind them, presumably the fielders got inattentive.
But a major reason these days is with the massive use of strikeout pitchers and everyone able to hit a homer in smaller stadiums, nobody is just trying to fool the batter and get easy grounders and fly balls.

That is a major part, but they are losing popularity and the number one complaint is length of game. I mean, football games last as long but they pad it out with loud music and graphics and shouting so it feels exciting or at least not as dull.
But they have made like 18 rules that make the game longer, such as instant replay challenges, so its hard to take their commitment to this very seriously.
If they honestly, seriously wanted to make baseball more popular, they'd spend money on encouraging kids to play baseball, providing supplies, fixing up old run down baseball diamonds now ignored for soccer, and push minor leagues.
Instead they cut their spending on kids baseball, killed the minor league system, and keep making noxious rule changes that chase away the dwindling fans they have.

Nah, I sort of puzzled out the rules. Think of a basketball game where you can only pass backwards, except you can tackle the ball holder and if you do you get the ball. At any time the runner can kick the ball forward, and if another team member catches it, then it stops, and then he (not a specialist) can kick a field goal for 6 or 1 points depending if it hits near the center or wider. And the refs have little flags for signalling good/no good.

One of my kids went to some games during her semester there. She says the irony of "Aussie Rules" football is that there apparently aren't any rules.

Viktor Suvarov had a story in his book on life in the Soviet army where two officer candidates on punishment are detailed to clean the human waste out of a dacha and discuss life under perfect Communism. The dissenter's question was "Who cleans the shit under Communism?" Suvarov says machines will. Dude says "who cleans the machines?"

Well setting aside the obvious opening for jokes
We are all called to be Christ like. There are people who are particularly good, virtuous, selfless, and therefore emulate Christ. Its what we are supposed to be like. So if you are saying someone is Christ like it is a high compliment. Like saying they are saintly. When applied to somebody like Blessed Solanus Casey, makes you think hmm, must have been a good guy. When applied to an NY cardinal or Pope Francis - its a bit cringe.

You shouldn't. So accepting that the humans of bureaucracy are not above tribalism or self-interest, and that the bureaucrats who are nominally part of your tribe or share your interests may act in ways that you do not approve: Would it still not be better to have tension within the bureaucracy? Even if it's all a show, I'd think it better that the show not only be propaganda for one side.
