Disney Fires Trump Supporting Republican Ike Perlmutter, Who Was Aligned with Nelson Peltz

He's long been a thorn in the side of #Woke Disney. He said something to the effect of "action figures of female characters don't sell to little boys," and the wokies all went insane, even though it's completely 100% true, and all of the Rey Skywalker and Marvel's Katie figures still warming the pegs at 75% discount proves that.

But the wokies are all about ideology. They hate facts. They hate reality.

Kevin Feige already manuevered to get him out of Marvel Studios, their movie making branch. Now Disney kicks him out of Marvel Entertainment, a lesser division of the dying Marvel empire.

Isaac Perlmutter, the famously frugal Marvel Entertainment chairman who unsuccessfully worked to shake up the Walt Disney Company's board in the past year, has been laid off as part of a cost-cutting campaign.

Disney confirmed the move. Mr. Perlmutter, 80, was told by phone on Wednesday that Marvel Entertainment, a small division centered on consumer products and run separately from Marvel Studios, was redundant and would be folded into larger Disney business units, according to two Disney executives briefed on the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive personnel matter.

On Monday, Disney started to eliminate 7,000 jobs, about 4 percent of its global total, as part of $5.5 billion in cuts intended to improve Disney's financial results and position the company for streaming-fueled growth.

Mr. Perlmutter, known as Ike, could not immediately be reached for comment.

An irascible and unrelenting executive, Mr. Perlmutter has been seen as a distraction inside Disney for more than a decade -- most recently when he pushed for a friend, the activist investor Nelson Peltz to join the Disney board. Mr. Perlmutter contacted Disney board members and senior Disney executives six times from last August to November to push for Mr. Peltz to join the board, according to a securities filing. When he was rebuffed, Mr. Peltz started a proxy battle to put himself on the board, saying he would cut costs, revamp Disney's streaming business and clean up the company's messy succession planning.

Maybe it's time for Peltz to reassert himself.

More executives are being laid off, too.

Jeffrey R. Epstein, a vice president of corporate communications for Disney and the man who spearheaded the official Disney fan club D23, was among those laid off this week, TheWrap has confirmed.

Previously working under Zenia Mucha, the feared and respected former senior executive vice president and CCO (otherwise known as the "Director of Revenge"), Epstein is perhaps best known as the spokesperson for D23 - an official Disney fan club that included a quarterly published glossy magazine and, eventually, an official fan convention known as D23 Expo, held every other year in Anaheim, California.

That's where Kathleen Kennedy will be given her "Viking Funeral."

The long promised -- and long-resisted -- layoffs of 7000 Disney employees begins this week.

Seems like a lot of employers should be laid off. Starting with Iger, who put Disney on a collision course with failure during his first tenure of woke propagandizing and grooming children.

Disney will begin layoff notices this week for more than 7,000 staffers whose positions will be eliminated as part of a deep cost-cutting effort that will be felt across all of the company's key divisions.

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed Monday morning in a memo to employees that the layoffs will come in three waves, starting today. Iger disclosed the plan to significantly cut Disney's overhead with massive staff reductions on Feb. 8. The cuts are expected to hit across the board and hit senior management levels as well as lower-level executives.

I agree that a competently told Black Widow/Hawkeye film could probably have done well in Phase II or early Phase III to help flesh out their characters. Both of them had enough backstory and obviously a prior relationship that this could have worked.

53 Midnight's Edge notes that Perlmutter is pretty old (80s) and probably should be retired by now anyway. There's also a theory that maybe this was a sop offered to wokesters infuriated that they fired a HISTORIC FIRST HISPANIC LESBIAN WOMAN!.

Ultimately this doesn't help Disney much, he still owns like 10-12% of their stock and can try another takeover. Which he should.

Maybe. Disney going to zero is probably not enough to seriously harm most pension funds on its own, though. So there is really fairly little need for the institutional shareholders to rock the boat in the name of profitability, especially given that they're all part of the Omniparty and promoting or directly doing its business.

And if this is the attitude is universal, then all those little losses will result in failure, even without singling out Disney for salvation.

Yeah, executive bloat is pretty common. I've seen it happen in real time. Directors with no staffs or budgets, for example. Pretty common in mega-corps. In my experience, it's usually talented people they want to make feel good and so promote them up. Not always, but often.

I'd be interested to see if these cuts at Disney are exclusively management or not, though. The article seems to imply that it is.

It's short term and mostly designed to appease shareholders. Their content still sucks and there are no plans to change it. Their share price is at a 3 year low, and now it's mostly at a buy rating. That's exactly what I was thinking. The two of them together seemed to have good chemistry and so have them work as a team to solve a lower-level scenario that maybe uncovers a major plot point later down the line. I don't think either one can carry a film alone, but as a team, they seem to do quite well. They would have been ideal for setting up one of the other major films in Phase II or III.

Stalin spent his evening entertaining the Politburo, and redlining about 12,000 names for Beria to fuck with.

Lenin died knowing his only role in Soviet history was leaving a thresher that would devout millions.

Posted by: Minnfidel at March 29, 2023 04:18 PM (GwxCX)

I was honored to give a eulogy at the Houston Veterans Memorial Cemetery for a man that had a hand in developing the B-29. He joined the Army in 1939 on a promise that volunteering early gave you a better chance of not being shipped out IF war broke out.

IIRC the B-29 was being hatched in Kansas and they needed to train pilots once production began. Jack Barnes got moved to an Army air base near Denver. There were 8200 pilots that went through his training program on planes he had built to teach them how to fly.

Those B-17 training planes had 16 fully functional dual B-29 cock pits with an aisle down the middle and each set of pilots/co pilots got to fly with actual controls that could be overidden by the actual flight crew if needed.

Those pilots had very little time behind the sticks before being assigned to their planes. The development of the B-29 took several years and was only used in the Pacific theater of WWII.

Mr. Barnes was actually a craftsman that opened a classic T-Bird shop in Houston when he was in his mid 50's and he became a certified Ford technician.

Another element of the B-29 program that most people don't realize is how expensive it was. It cost about the same as the Manhattan Project. it was less scientifically innovative, but it was as expensive a program.

That boggles me mind. This country managed to pay for and achieve *two* projects at that scale simultaneously. It's unthinkable, but we did it.

Disney hasn't created anything of late; it simply recasts, retools, reimagines (god, I hate that word) its former glory, hoping no one will notice. Likewise, Apple is not even a shadow of the innovative force it was under Jobs. They've run the course on the iPod and iMac, and though there is still a legion of Apple nerds who salivate over the next phone launch, how long will it take them to tire of minute like size alterations, available colors, or number of cameras? In the Pacific they time-shared the fleet command because to get operations going twice as fast. Planners and Commanders would work on one operation while another was underway. When that wound down, the admirals and staff and ground troops would ship out to the fleet and the first set of leaders would start planning their next operation.

You remember Disney's Reputation? You know, the one place, the one studio that was dedicated to wholesome family entertainment and the celebration of all things American.

Well, Disney took that Reputation, walked it into the town square at high noon, repeatedly shot it in the head, pissed on the corpse, raped it, then set it on fire and using the sizzling remains to make a ragu for lunch.

It's going to take wholesale firing and literally years to try, just even attempt, to rebuild that reputation.

I doubt it can be done.

224 The biggest problem for Disney is...where do they go/what do they do to regain their reputation.

It would take about a decade of good, family-friendly, enjoyable entertainment of high quality. And being friendly and good to customers, not attacking them. That would start them on the path to having a better reputation.

A priest, a minister and a rabbit walked into a coffee bar and sat down. The bartender said to the priest, ""What will you have?" The priest said, "I will have a mocha latte." The bartender said to the minister, "What will you have?" The minister said, "I will have a cappuccino." The bartender said to the rabbit, "And what will you have?" The rabbit said, "I have no idea. I'm just here because of the autocorrect."

'Snowbird season' is the period every late fall until early spring when FL sees an influx of folks from the NE and Canada. 283 So I thought I recognized Isaac Perlmutter's name;

From Wiki (I know but I needed a quick resource):
On November 30, 2001, Perlmutter became vice chairman of Marvel.[12][4] He became the chief executive officer of Marvel Comics on January 1, 2005. He remained CEO of Marvel Entertainment, even after the acquisition of Marvel by The Walt Disney Company on December 31, 2009. Although Perlmutter received $800 million in cash and $590 million in Disney stock after the acquisition, he did not want a seat on Disney's board of directors.[13]

Guy is a BILLIONAIRE (with a B), but looks like he was Marvel, before Disney corrupted it.
