The Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

3 4 23 coffee.jpg

***

OK, it's not exactly coffee but some of the Morons like some good old fashioned hot chocolate with marshmallows. Pour in some Peppermint Schnaps and a good time can be had by all.

Before the Prayer revival, just remember our simple rules:

1) Enjoy your bloviating and opining in this open thread.
2) Be kind to one another.
3) Remember if you run with sharp objects the ER docs on the weekend aren't happy to be there.
4) Have an enjoyable weekend.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

2/13 – Teresa in Fort Worth would appreciate continued prayers for her daughter’s healing after hip replacement surgery.

1/28 - Tonypete asks for prayers for his daughter. She continues to make very poor life choices and now finds herself living in a hovel with bottom of the barrel roommates (like herself) and two actual pigs. The place is filthy and should be condemned. She has been blessed with all she needs to live a happy, fruitful life and yet rejects it all.
2/13 Update – Continued prayers for Tonypete’s daughter are requested. Tonypete and his wife took a road trip and visited their daughter for a few days. She has adopted as family a wildly dysfunctional girlfriend and her parents which only adds to the already crushing burdens of her own. Tonypete fears she will be lost forever if she doesn’t begin to use the skills and values they tried to teach her.

2/4 – Stephan requests prayers that our God-awful nation will get back on the right track.

2/4 – Sal requests prayers for her younger brother who was diagnosed with ALS. He was holding steady and enrolled in a research program, but is losing ground more rapidly now. Prayers for him and his family would be most appreciated.

2/6 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for her church’s beloved and elderly organist, Jessie, who fell at a church luncheon and has a pelvic fracture. Thanks so much.
2/11 Update – Jessie also broke her elbow, so she will miss playing at church.

2/7 – Annie’s Stew requests prayers for her step-grandson, age 17, who is experiencing life similar to Grannysaurus Rex’ grandson: anxiety, depression, thoughts of suicide. Prayers for strengthened faith in God and purpose in life are appreciated.

2/9 – Jane D’Oh’s husband is still undergoing therapy as an outpatient. A couple of days ago they found out that he is paralyzed from the knee down on his left leg, so they have a neurologist appointment next Friday to try and determine the cause. In the meantime, Jane and family remain utterly grateful for all the prayers. After her husband was released from the hospital, they were told that he had been the most critically ill patient in the place and that it was a miracle he survived. The prayers helped tremendously.

2/9 – Russkiltlover asked for prayers for a co-worker who had a massive heart attack at work, and is on life-support. The co-worker was 28. He was a super sweet guy, great construction manager, and fun to work with.

2/14 – Kam Fong as Chin Ho asked for prayers for his co-worker and wife, as their 15-year-old son was killed in an accidental shooting.

2/18 – Jewells45 gave an update on her cancer. The CT scan showed no new growth, so that was fantastic news. There are ups and downs, be she is feeling better.

2/18 – Intruderdriver asked for prayers for Steve, a retired Marine aviator and airline pilot, who was hospitalized with a cancer that had metastasized into his bones, brain, and lungs.

2/20 – Iron Mike Golf asked for prayers as he underwent a shoulder replacement.

2/21 – Palerider at AoS requested prayers for her co-worker, William. He has battled brain cancer before. It came back this fall, and he did a round of intense treatment at Mayo. He is now having vision issues making it difficult for him to do his work on the computer. She requests prayers that the vision issues resolve quickly and his cancer is put back into remission.

2/21 P has for prayers, as his family has been having an interesting time lately. His dear wife was in the hospital over Christmas and New Year’s. She has lost her hearing and may need implants. She can walk now with a walker, which is a huge improvement over the last month. Additionally, their youngest son had ACL surgery in late Dec.

2/24 – Legally Sufficient asked for the Horde’s prayers as she undergoes total knee replacement surgery on 2/27. She asks for strength and continued faith. She also asked for prayers for her husband, and asks that God would provide him with strength and patience as he helps nurse her through this.

2/24 – SnailRacer asked for prayers for the family and friends of WDS - Westminster Dog Show -Diane who passed away last week.

2/25 – J asked for prayers for a new trap-shooting club that is starting. He asks that it is successful for all the adults and children involved and doesn’t get attention outside of their pro-hunting community (if you know what I mean).

2/25 – Dr_No sends an update and thanks for the prayers for healing for his daughter Megan. We had prayed for her when she was going through chemotherapy for colon cancer 2 years ago. She just tested again, and is still cancer-free! He prays for blessings and healing for those still dealing with illness and loss.

2/25 – Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd sends prayers of thanks for his daughter’s turnaround. She had become alienated from her parents and from God, and now has come back more toward faith and is more kind and concerned toward them. This has also helped his wife’s faith, too, which has been struggling due to these troubles with their daughter.

3/1 – Inogame asked for prayers. He had come to the Horde after his wife miscarried 2 years ago, and appreciated our prayers and kindness. They were blessed with a little girl later that year. Now they are in the same situation. They have lost another baby and need prayers against the sorrow and depression.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

My first thought was, 'No coffee!'. I can always improvise, given enough time, but first thing in the morning, hardly awake? No.

I need to do something about that. Probably should find a small 12V percolator.

Happily, after a couple of resets, Mrs. Duke got the electrons flowing again.

66 The back story to the Kellyanne / George split is that George is a partner at the uber NYC law firm Wachtell Lipton, where he makes more than $6mm per year, and which feeds his schlubby short man ego, and the folks at Wachtell are nearly all crazy lefties who hate Trump with the passion that only rich spoiled Manhattanites can bring.

He had to choose between taking a public anti-Trump stance or leaving the firm. And he was also jealous that Kellyanne had eclipsed him professionally.

68 On one hand I am somewhat subdued. One of my new baby goats died last night . That was a blessing because I would have had to put her down today. She was the second one to die. One of my girls lost both of her kids. On the other hand, I have 5 cute and healthy new babies .
They are farm animals and I am pragmatic but it's heartbreaking when you realize there is nothing you can do to help such a small and helpless little animal. Sitting on the porch this morning I could hear my girl bleating wondering where her babies were.

73 ...some of the Morons like some good old fashioned hot chocolate with marshmallows. Pour in some Peppermint Schnaps and a good time can be had by all.

Funnily enough, I just made some cherry liquor, and found a splash of it is great in hot chocolate. Super sweet, and super concentrated cherry flavor...it's a match made in heaven. I had a bottle of it I brought back from Kosovo, and it was great...a little research shows it's very common in the Balkans and Eastern Europe, and very easy to make as well.

Written version: https://tinyurl.com/25x54jke (1:1 cherry to sugar ratio was way too sweet for me...2:1 was much more reasonable, and closer to other recipes I found)

We here on the Eastern side of the Seirra Mountains are sopposed to be in for another blanketing of snow this evening. I have no idea where I'm going to put it. Probably should just hibernate for a couple of weeks and wait for the melt. This much snow is somewhat rare ina high desert. Tahoe is beyond belief right now. The snow pack up there could last into next winter from the looks of it. Over 500 inches of the fluffy white stuff at Sugarbowl ski resort.

I have been amusing myself gambling in our volatile stock market. I have had an Ameritrade trading account for years and so I moved a fraction of my savings to it after discovering market index ETFs, in particular SQQQ to short sell the NASDQ, and TQQQ if you are thinking it will go up. My strategy of trying to limit my losses as opposed to maximizing my gains has been working so far. I am up 15% in the last three weeks, so now I am largely "playing with house money".

It really is gambling as I know nothing about the underlying equities, I am just observing the trends and trying to ride the wave.

110 Morning again, all,

Last week I asked what could be done to de-crystallize a container of honey. "Soak it in warm water" was the consensus, and I did, and it worked!

On the other hand, the plastic "bear" container is now . . . sticky. I've tried washing it twice, and nothing improves. Something about the plastic itself has changed thanks to the mild heat and water, I guess. Sure, I could decant it into a glass jar, but then I'd have to spoon the stuff out, which I hate. The plastic squeeze jar is very convenient to dispense the stuff.

Next time I buy honey, I'll examine it *before* I bring it home!

112 Just for the sake of argument, I think markets have nothing to do with "fundamentals " anymore. They're just a measure of how much free money the Fed is pumping into the system, because that is where it goes. And they may say they're cutting back to fight inflation, but then Biden writes another $400 million check to Ukraine with nothing but newly created money, and all that inflation fighting talk goes out the window.

A good Coleman camp stove should be on every "prepper's" list. Quotes used, because we should all be preppers to some degree. Propane if it's all you can find, but the old-style pressure stove fueled by white gas (aka naptha) is the best. Fuel in a sealed can will last nearly forever, and not being pressurized, cannot leak and create an explosive atmosphere in your storage area. And those puppies burn real hot, and can do serious cooking.

There were areas up around 8000 feet that used to have snow year round back in the 80's. We used to hike up and go sledding in the summer when we were kids. Now those areas are all a barren slope in the summer. This year though it'll be covered into August easily.

"As NATO is currently constructed and operated, NATO is the Tiki Lounge, the US Government is the Mob, running US taxpayer money through it, running up it's credit through the front door and well connected Pols, WEF, MIC, Party of Davos types dipping their beaks at the back door."

I thought this particular scam was to get the more recent NATO signatories to donate their former Soviet equipment to Ukraine, then take foreign aid from the US to replace their stockpiles with Western made arms.

Which might make sense if the Russians were a functional modern military and/or you have $300 billion burning a hole in your pocket.

And for the record, the tiki bar scam was revealed the night Tommy gives the, "Do I amuse you?" speech. Tommy and Henry were supposed to make things so bad for the owner he has no choice but to go to Paulie. That's why Tommy ran up the huge tab. It was all preplanned. That's why Tommy said to Henry, "Your supposed to be doing this stuff, too, y'know."

157 112 Just for the sake of argument, I think markets have nothing to do with "fundamentals " anymore. They're just a measure of how much free money the Fed is pumping into the system, because that is where it goes. And they may say they're cutting back to fight inflation, but then Biden writes another $400 million check to Ukraine with nothing but newly created money, and all that inflation fighting talk goes out the window.
Posted by: Tom Servo at March 04, 2023 09:51 AM (q3gwH)

Agree strongly. But I'd go further. The global economy is slowing massively and that is due to USDs being scarce on the ground despite the massive creation. For the reasons you state.

Thus, "inflation" is not being caused by economic growth. But instead by de facto scarcity of USDs.

I lied and told my father someone did it in the garage. While it was being fixed, he got me an old beat up clunker to drive. When the car was returned from the shop, he told me if anything else happened to the car, it would permanently be the old clunker. That was when I realized he knew what had happened and was teaching me a lesson.

I contributed my time and skills to the Catholic school my wife taught at by writing software for front office and library. Also kicked in some computers and printers. The Principal, a Sister, was always appreciative and would buy me nice thoughtful little things. But the last gift she gave me was some sort of needlepoint which said something to the effect that 'God gives you skills and if you don't use them he'll take them back'. I thought it an odd gift but it's actually kind of true. I was a musical savant at a young age and could play the piano before I could reach the seat myself. But I let that skill lapse and it's now gone.

the sound of animals mourning their loved ones really does tug at the heartstrings.

When we used to live on a property that bordered a pond, my cousin's sons would come over and fish.
One day I saw their vehicle in the driveway so I knew they were down at the pond. About 20 minutes later, I saw them hurriedly getting back into the car and departing.

Not even an hour later came the cries of a goose, it was a terrible sound, I could tell she was in pain so I hurried down to the pond. She and her mate had built a nest right on the bank of the pond, I guess they thought it was sufficiently hidden.

Well, it wasn't. The boys had killed Daddy goose by throwing rocks at him, I guess the kill shot hit him right between the eyes. And Mama Goose was mourning her man.

245 So, if anyone's here and planning grocery shopping, there are a LOT of unannounced produce deals at Hmart today locally. And they now have the cheapest full price eggs at $2.99/dozen, no matter if they are large or jumbo (so yes, I bought jumbo for the boy eaters and have told them to leave my large eggs for me and my cooking).

99 cent strawberries are back...99 cents/lb broccoli is back...99 cent bags of celery sticks and petite romaine (these look great but were last week's specials and are now priced lower to get rid of them), etc...
