Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | No, George Soros Didn't "Endorse" Ron DeSantisIn case you saw this going around, no, George Soros did not endorse Ron DeSantis for the Republican nomination -- at least, not in the way the Fake News clip that some dishonest Trump supporters intended people to think he did. Soros said he hoped Ron DeSantis won the nomination so that Trump would run as a third party candidate, and then the Democrat candidate would score a "landslide" victory over the both of them. That's a lot different than the edited clip, which just shows Soros saying he hopes DeSantis wins the nomination, wants you to think he's saying.
You know what I mean? Like, the shame is part of the kink. Lying isn't a cost of playing the game; lying is the game. A lot of these guys work for the Establishment. They love, love, love Conning the Rubes. I've sometimes talked with people who consider themselves real "Political Gamemasters" and their eyes really light up at the deception/"spymaster" aspects of politics. I've had people "leak" me polls that turned out to be fake. I don't mean a poll that was cherry picked from a series of polls that showed different results; I mean a poll that was simply made-up out of whole cloth, completely fictitious, just totally made up of imagination and lies. When I confronted this person, he wasn't even apologetic about it -- they acted like we were all in this Great Game together, weren't we? Shouldn't I be happy that I'd been used as a pawn in his maneuvering to get people to pay more attention to a race in this state? A lot of the most passionate online supporters are attracted to whoever appears to be the most oppositional candidate in the race, whoever that is. Rand Paul, for example. Now Trump. That doesn't actually reflect on the men they support -- as Rand Paul said of his more repellent supporters, "They endorsed me, I didn't endorse them" -- unless Trump retweets them or supports them or something. Anyway, that's obviously not the average Trump supporter. I'm just saying, Memelords and Sh!tposters do particularly like Trump. People who are fed up with the system. Like most of you, like me. (I'm not always attracted to the most oppositional candidate, I'm 20% cvck, so I usually pick a candidate who is the second-most oppositional. That's why I preferred Cruz. But when Trump won, I backed him, wholeheartedly, and liked him more and more as the weeks passed.) And whatever group has the most passion, will attract a lot of amateurs interested in cheap and dirty aspects of the game, of course. The pros will work for the big money the Establishment offers, but the amateurs will work for candidates they feel passion about. The guys who fancy themselves to be Political George Smileys, moving the 4-D political chesspieces around the internet game-board, one lie at at time, hoping to one day bring the whole rotten system down and, of course, emerge as the conquering Hero of Deliverance. They just really like lying. Telling them that lying is counterproductive won't dissuade them, because producing a positive political result isn't the point of the lie -- they're lying for the thrill of imagining the power they have over the Rubes' minds when they get to "program" their inferior brains with the message they've concocted. They're mostly in the game of politics for the game, not for the politics. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Strain the water and immediately put the taters back into the hot pan, let it steam off while you heat up the butter and milk/cream, chop them chives/parsley/etc. If you have a ricer, rice the taters into the pan over low/med heat, then pour the milk & butter into the pan and mix. If no ricer, mash the taters gently until combined. S & P while mixing. Don't over mix, it'll turn into glue. Posted by: weft cut-loop at February 28, 2023 04:33 PM (XF9Gj) 89

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Two right-wing conspiracy theorists who placed thousands of robocalls with false information to largely minority and Democratic voters in Cleveland in the months before the November 2020 election pleaded guilty on Monday to a felony charge. Jacob Wohl, 24, of Irvine, California, and Jack Burkman, 56, of Arlington, Virginia, face a maximum of a year in prison after they pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree felony charge of telecommunications fraud. Wohl and Burkman gained national profiles after holding several press conferences to levy false accusations against prominent Democrats and Republicans critical of former President Donald Trump. Their schemes included accusing former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg and Robert Mueller, the former FBI Director and Special Counsel in the investigation into ties between Russia and the Trump campaign, of sexual assault and harassment charges that were quickly debunked. Trump has, IMO, underestimated how many people tune him out after he starts name calling. It did work in the 2016 primary, but by now, it's an old, tired schtick.
It pisses off a lot of people in the middle who don't pay attention to details, but get their news in the car at the top of the hour, all two minutes of it. This is the same media that lied continuously about him for the entire time he was in office. Enough people got tired of the negativity, and associated it with Trump. Of course, that was the plan from the start. IDK if he can change, but if he doesn't, I don't see how he can win in 2024. Of course, Dominion Voting Machines are still used in the battleground states for the most part, so elections are a joke anyway. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at February 28, 2023 04:38 PM (i+mOk) 127

For mashed potatoes, here are things NOT to do.
1. Don't undercook the potatoes - ever. Overcooking will always still work. Undercooking will give you a disgusting lumpy glop. 2. Don't use anything electric for mashing. You know what I mean? Like, the shame is part of the kink. Lying isn't a cost of playing the game; lying is the game.
I'll say it again - 90% of the populace really, really enjoys forcing their will on others. In the old days, high school jocks did it physically and popular girls did it socially. Managers did it professionally. The information age both democratized the process and made it a 24/7/365 game for anyone willing to play. Lying is just one way that some force their will on others. Man is a social animal. For the most part, he congregates and then makes each other miserable. Posted by: Cheat Notes at February 28, 2023 04:43 PM (ra9AY) 165

== Well if you remember, it became clear that Cruz wasn't going to have the kind of impact that Trump was and you actually were Trump curious before I was. I found your logic to be compelling then. Cruz was looking unelectable. We knew the other options were piss poor and would be losses, even if they "won". Trump if he did what he said he would do would be a win. It was a long shot, but sometimes you have to say WTF. And then he was not very smooth at all but he got better. Certainly on the stump at rallies he was a tremendous improvement. He found his voice. He's a known known. He's a brand. Some people love him. Some people want to piss on him. Its like Chevy vs. Ford. He's going to fight. He's not doing failure theater. He's not selling out. He's got issues tho. Big ones. Vax, Age, Jan 6 people. Frankly, Joe Biden real time post life decay behind the podium is hurting Trump because people associate that age with being a HARD STOP. >>>Trump has, IMO, underestimated how many people tune him out after he starts name calling. It did work in the 2016 primary, but by now, it's an old, tired schtick.
i agree. People keep saying 'but wait until trump starts up with the attacks' and I'm not afraid of that at all. It worked in 2016 because no one ever saw it before, but people have seen it now. It's, as you say, old. It was always an entertainment thing, and entertainment depends on novelty. Also, any joke relies on the audience's agreement that the butt of the joke deserves to be the butt. There was widespread disillusionment with most of the GOP in 2016 (and now) and they agreed with Trump that there were a lot of butts that deserved some dressing-downs. But I just don't think that most of the party feels like DeSantis really "deserves to be ridiculed" for... what? The first place I saw the false "Soros endorses DeSantis" meme was on Gateway Pundit. Sometimes GP breaks stories or provides exposure that otherwise wouldn't have occurred, which is useful; however, those guys also frequently put up blog posts that don't justify the headline, or, in this case, give the impression of being purposely misleading (and one does get tired of the over-the-top BOMBSHELL!!!!! news flashes that turn out to be wrong or simply meh. If you support Trump, that's fine; you don't need to base your support on mental prestidigitation. These days, I try hard to always take the Detective Friday approach: "Just the facts, ma'am".

Follow this exactly: https://armagazine.com/3J1aiww Examples of big mistakes most people make when cooking mashed potatoes: DON'T cube your potatoes. Cut them in half. Cubing your potatoes means the potatoes cook at different rates and makes the water starchy, which affects the consistency of the potatoes. DON'T over mash / mix. Most people's mashed potatoes taste like glue because they over mash. Watch the video, he makes it really easy to make perfect mashed potatoes every time. The interesting part going forward is that DeSantis' candidacy will be somewhat of a litmus test for the establishment Republicans and actual conservative Never-Trumpers (not the Lincoln Project dipshits). If DeSantis represents populist and/or traditionally conservative positions, and they still don't get on board, then they are just Democrats. So logically, DeSantis' candidacy should be supported by all those who SAY they are conservative, but thought OrangeManBad was too orange, or too man, or too bad. Or they could make a well-reasoned argument against any of DeSantis' actions as Florida governor or policy positions (yeah right).
Does this mean DeSantis is a sellout? Or less competent? Or less conservative? Not necessarily, obviously. But this dynamic will be with us through primary season. Enjoy Posted by: Milquetoast Mortgage-Paying Neighbor in Flyover Country at February 28, 2023 04:50 PM (5C4od) 215

The one point where I think Trump might have a possible in is if Trump goes full isolationist and basically runs a truly isolationist foreign policy campaign, and dares DeSantis to match him. But that's dangerous for Trump because I don't think the GOP is ready to sign up for Peace at Any Cost isolationism just yet. Posted by: ace at February 28, 2023 04:46 PM (C1Zwz) ++++ Trump did a few of those. It is absolutely intervention. It is not wide-scale war. Trump ordered a number of surgical strikes on specific enemies and bases, of limited scope. Those particular interventions were probably the right move, but I may well have a different opinion on them now if they hadn't worked. But the interventions before and since have been very different. They have been major war actions, sometimes - like in the case of Libya and Ukraine - utterly without even a vague connection to American security. If the choice is to have no nuance whatsoever - that is, if the choice is between "war at any scale at any time for any reason or no reason at all" or "total isolationism" - then I'd vote for isolationism, even though interventions can be sensible. ace don't know if your comment was responding to something, but the thing about isolationism as an option for Trump - this is the only interesting thing about any of it. Not foreign policy, but policy, all of it. That's what it's all about.
Of course about 3% of the electorate (including "conservatives") seem to behave as if this is the case. It's all bumper sticker crap, and personalities, in other words about nothing at all. Strategerists used to call it differentiation. It was about setting yourself apart from an opponent, on substance, on policy (everybody can see all the irrelevant stupid personality differences for themselves). I remain unable to imagine the differentiation thesis or strategery for Heavy D vs. Trump. Trump's razor-thin win in 2016 came because of policy issues, esp. the traction of same with non-college whites in 3 or 4 key states. If Heavy D doesn't duplicate Trump's approach on those, the hill in the general gets steeper; if he echoes the same policies, what's the point of his running? governors, mayors, and school boards all cited the CDCs "guidances" as regards masking mandates and shutdowns. The CDC posted guidances regarding when businesses and schools could be opened. These were largely followed.
Did the localities HAVE to follow them? Well, I'm not sure. In some cases, they seemed to act as if they needed an external legal justification for their decisions which would otherwise just be freefloating tyranny. In any event, Trump did not knock this mechanism of imposing lockdowns and mandates out. Except to complain of it, impotently, at rallies and on twitter. Tell me I'm lying, TJM. It didn't work, but as a diplomatic play Korean reunification remains a truly dismal prospect for China. People claim Trump is out of ideas, but a brief scan of the first term shows how many high-hanging fruits Trump knocked down. Like overturning Roe, for instance. Campaigns who claim Trump just wants vindication are really advertising their own lack of vision. Posted by: trev006 at February 28, 2023 05:01 PM (DTm0P) 314

I'm not sure if there's a politician on the planet who would have done that, though. That's still not shutting anything down. There were states and localities that never shut down. No one had to. Remember when we were all in love with Kristi Noem because SD never shut down? I'm not a Trump apologist, but he didn't shut anything down. He was trying to thread a needle with an out of control bureaucracy, and he didn't do it well. I'd say he failed at threading that needle. DeSantis has a good idea how the federal bureaucracy runs from being in Congress. As governor he has successfully taken stock of what the governmental powers are and how they can be used to his advantage. Trump never did any of that and lacked the political will to take action, even when it would have been the bold, right thing to do.
For Pete's sake, he just endorsed Rona McDaniel, the big donor jackass who is responsible partially for him losing. She put in place the strategy that ended up in a disaster for our country- and recently backed her again. It's things like that which give me zero confidence Trump has learned anything. Somehow I think a knock-down drag-out fight over hypotheticals and ambiguous complex things from 2020 re the virus is not going to captivate, interest, or mobilize GOP primary voters.
Here, let me borrow one of *the* dumbest standard lines from the never-Trumper commentariat, re his running again, and his uncomfortable contention that there might have been just a weee problem with election integrity in 2020: "we can't look back, we have to look ahead!". This kind of childish crap can be found dribbling from large numbers of "conservative" commentators, who also sound/act as if Trump's term were a so-so coasting period between kick-ass "conservative" presidents, and not a stunningly different pause from national decline. Set up a matrix of boxes to tick. Key policies. Which ones have a DeSantis box checked, but not for Trump. Or vice versa. I don't know, maybe there are some (important, not marginal stuff). Just not sure what they are. THAT is what any campaign, well at least a GOP primary, is about. Posted by: rhomboid at February 28, 2023 05:08 PM (OTzUX) 387

Nah, Desantis's appeal isn't really about policy differences. His proponents think that in him they've got a guy who is as at least as conservative as Trump on net who will be more electable and more effective because he lacks Trump's grating NY personality and management problems and can actually talk policy as opposed to overarching themes. Right or wrong, that's essentially the case for Desantis, rather than huge policy differences, at least so far. The primary at this point is the easy thing for us to win. The early votes are in states that are largely free of major voting issues, and the Republican Party has woken up to the realities of the GOPe's games. It also helps that there's only a couple of major rockstar conservative voices with a serious chance, helping to eliminate the splitter issue, which now transfers to the GOPe, Trump/DeSantis killer candidates like Nikki Haley. It's the fact that nothing has been done to fix voting in Philly, Maricopa, Detroit, and Fulton County, among others. They'll fortify the general again, and a half-dead Biden will coast to victory. I can predict at least one or two here - one somewhat plausible, the rest amusing wishcasting unrelated to any political realities we know of right now. But I don't see the map. This breezy confidence about DeSantis, electorally, I find baffling. Posted by: rhomboid at February 28, 2023 05:17 PM (OTzUX) 445

Trump kept putting "The Swamp" people in charge of things like the border, even as they opposed his position. But the biggest was when the nation really needed him to fire The (murderous grifter) Swamp (Fauci/Birx) ... he instead kept them front and center, and ignored the real scientists (The Great Barrington Declaration and others, not sure if he listened to Navarro at all).
That cost a lot of lives and businesses (and harmed kids in school), even though he mentioned alternative early treatments, and did not himself force the shutdowns. But he kept the genocide crew in charge ... his biggest fail imo. Posted by: illiniwek at February 28, 2023 05:27 PM (Cus5s) 526

511 Do they control things or not? And if they do, how did Trump win?
Posted by: Archimedes at February 28, 2023 05:24 PM (eOEVl) ========== Their control over the primary process over the decades has been through the ability to consolidate quickly around a singular Establishment candidate while letting the more conservative candidates fight amongst themselves, splintering the vote early, and letting the establishment candidate become "inevitable". That reverse in 2016 when Trump essentially become the only conservative candidate (Cruz was a solid second, but that was it) while everyone else made it obvious they were establishment through and through (even Scott Walker...le sigh...). The primary calendar first goes through a bunch of states with relatively secure voting processes, allowing the people's voice to be heard pretty clearly in the primary vote. That changes in the all at once federal general election where momentum no longer matters and PA can just swing everything at once. Fwiw, I don’t think DeSantis is some sort of lock to win the presidency if he has the nom.
I do however think Trump has 0% chance of becoming president again. Even with a bad recession and against Biden. If Trump has lost someone as conservative as I am, there’s no hope for middle of the road voters. He’s become a disgusting spectacle and people are sick of it. I know a large amount of really conservative voters that loved trump more than any republican since Reagan and to a person, they are all sick of him and want him to ride off into the sunset. If DeSantis enters, I think Trump still wins, but DeSantis will be announcing, at the earliest, in June, when Trump will have been winning poll after poll by 30-50 points. He'll be seen as super strong, and that's a weird place to try and enter the race. It's also an issue on the Democrat side. Elections in SC are pretty clean for both GOP and Democrats. That means that the DNC can't just choose who wins the third primary, and the first that's actually seen as important anymore. Trump really has gone off the deep end lately.
He's no longer the amusing shit talker, he's really saying some crazy things now. I don't know if its him being senile or just the usual problem of him being surrounded by idiot sycophants. But even next to Biden, he's going to be looked at like the bigger loon when he's the focus of a 24/7 news cycle once again. Right now, Trump is just sort of background noise. When he's front and center, they will run back into Biden's arms. He's already talked about tearing up the Constitution to install him as President. You're going to have a whole campaign with this as the theme. Republicans down ballot will get slaughtered. Posted by: Arrowheads at February 28, 2023 05:37 PM (9BmSv) 612

My two biggest issues with a DeSantis run is..
1. There is no rational to him running this time while Trump is still a viable candidate. 2. Harvard/Yale/MIC/GOPe baggage. 3. He was already a useless congressman for 6 years, so he knows how things don't get done in Washington. The reason he ran for Governor was because Washington is broken and he was achieving nothing. And people are under some delusion that Ron is going to storm into Washington and get things accomplished that Trump was unable to accomplish. Basically, as long as Trump is on the scene, there is plausible alternative to his MAGA/America First Agenda and anyone running against Trump is going to have to try to out MAGA the MAGAKING. Not gonna happen. Posted by: Thomas Bender at February 28, 2023 05:39 PM (up/3i) 616

The Republican Party needs to pay the price - over and over and over and over and over - for aiding and abetting Democrats and their leftist Big Tech/Big Business/Media allies in STEALING President Trump's reelection in 2020 and with it, a great future for the United States of America. In the next election, only probably 10 states "matter" - and of those, each side needs to find their path. GOP needs the "likely vote fraud" MI/WI/PA combo (2 of 3) or they need both VA/GA (no vote fraud, at least not against Rs). If you don't think Trump can beat the midwest fraud, you have to "vote for the other guy" b/c Trump can't win either of VA/GA...and Repubs need both... I suspect you are correct but I don't KNOW that to be true. See Tracy at 646 Posted by: Milquetoast Mortgage-Paying Neighbor in Flyover Country at February 28, 2023 05:48 PM (5C4od) 675
3. He was already a useless congressman for 6 years, so he knows how things don't get done in Washington.
_______________ I would imagine being in Congress - with all its seniority, etc. rule - would be extremely frustrating for someone who wants to get things done. At the risk of provoking a firestorm, I suspect that that frustration is why Trey Gowdy dropped back into punt formation. Being in Congress would drive ME nuts; I've been in a department that operated like that, and it did injury to my soul. Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at February 28, 2023 05:48 PM (YqDXo) 676

And if we have that many dumb people on (kinda) "our side", we kinda deserve to lose. Or at least there is little we can do about it.
Posted by: Axeman at February 28, 2023 05:22 PM (krQz2) Those people were never on "our side". They are millions of Obama voters who switched to Trump. This assumption that it's all Red v Blue turnout calculation is wrong. Trump expands the base because he's not seen as a Republican. The Democrats do this all the time, too, often with poor results. In CO, they gave assistance to the Libertarian Party candidate in 2016 to make sure the state didn't vote for Trump (as if that was possible).
They had to cut off that support when they found that most of the people considering the L party were their own voters. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at February 28, 2023 04:27 PM And that is the story of the 2016 election. Trump did not win it so much as Hillary lost it. In every key blue state that flipped from long-time Democrat to Trump (PA, MI, WI), it was massive 3rd party voting that sunk Hillary. Trump did not do much better in 2016 than Romney did in 2012. It was just that Hillary did that much *worse* in 2016 than Obama had done in 2012 (which was a big dropoff from 2008 ). Posted by: Clyde Shelton at February 28, 2023 05:59 PM (Do5/p) 692
Posting this here because we can't comment on old threads:
Ace, I'm sorry, you blasted Mike Lindell for saying he would sue to get the Jan 6 videos. McCarthy is restricting access to Tucker and his group - " Rep. Barry Loudermilk ...chairs.. subcommittee of the House Committee on Administration, told CBS News that a screening station was set up for the Fox News team to view videos from the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6. The staffers were not allowed to record or remove any of the videos from the screening area, he said." Tucker cannot use any of the video or record it Anything he uses has to be approved by a committee which could take months Posted by: Isolden at February 28, 2023 06:01 PM (dB99g) 693

Sundance over at Conservative Treehouse and the Only-Trump cultists are the ones pushing this nonsense. Soros wants DeSantis to win the Republican nomination, Trump to go third party and split the Republican votes.... guaranteeing that no matter what awful Democrat runs, they will win in 2024 and continue the US down the path of Socialist-Marxist Globalist Authoritarianism.
And if you call them on this kind of nonsense in the comment section, you get banned. No different than the censors over at Zuckerbergville. All about the purity of their devotion to Trump. Posted by: Monica at February 28, 2023 06:09 PM (Ztr3O) 696
692.... it makes alot of sense to me for McCarthy not to let Tucker's team just take footage. There has to be a review process, to make sure that what is shown on TV reflects the truth and also protects Capitol security, otherwise the Democrats will have a field day roasting Republicans as reckless. Also, of course there has to be rules that footage cannot leave the Capitol, otherwise it could disappear..... it doesn't belong to Tucker, it belongs to the House of Representatives. I think a procedure to request copies of footage that is then vetted makes alot of sense. Sure, it means it will take time. But alot of other news teams will eventually get access as well, and setting up a process now makes sense.
