Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Update on James O'Keefe/Project Veritas DramaThis account, OldRowSwig, says that O'Keefe has been ejected from PV due to the machinations of disgruntled board members and fired employees:
The account @amuse posts this report:
SOURCE: "The board held a six and a half hour struggle session vs James where they subjected him to constant derision and insults. At the insistence of Tyrmand, O'Hara, and Hinckley; "about ten employees aired their grievances about James, which essentially boiled down to him being a tough boss to work for. At the end of this six hour struggle session, Tyrmand and fellow board member John Garvey put him on leave and stripped him of all authority."This account, @amuse, confirms most of the claims of @OldRowSwig:
We don't know the whole story yet; these accounts are obviously relaying the story of an O'Keefe supporter, if not O'Keefe himself. James O'Keefe is Project Veritas, and firing him just destroys the organization. He'll go on to found a near-identical organization, which for all practical purposes will be the real Project Veritas. The old, fake Project Veritas will die. More here. Update: A friend tells me that Tyrmand wouldn't force out O'Keefe on a whim, as Project Veritas is very important to him, and he's been running it day-to-day for years. James is a bit of a victim of poor corporate structure, as PV is 2 separate orgs a 501c3 which had very FEW board members and the majority of the $$$ and a 501c4, which had significantly more board members but less $$$
According to my source, this situation has allowed to 2 alleged ringleaders of this attempt to push James out to have significant sway over the others despite their reasons to be essentially meritless. ++++ So a weak corporate structure put too much power in the hands of professional managers and left little in the hands of the founder, and the founder was pushed out following a disagreement on operations or a conflict of visions. This sounds a whole lot like a fairly common venture capital scenario, where the engineer/inventor builds the company and then gets forced out by the professionals brought in by the VC firms. Except the politics, which I am sure are central to this. Given the timing, I am comfortable speculating that the powers that be decided that it was finally time to take out O'Keefe. He took on way too big, too important a target this time and they are kneecapping him and making him, at best, have to start over. Project Veritas has credibility and name recognition because of past work, but if it gets nuked, especially if it gets nuked through shoddy or fraudulent work, that could be used to taint their previous work, and future work by the original PV founders through association. In fact, I bet he turns to the last page, sets it down, and starts peppering questions that make you feel like you are on trial, and if you don’t have quick answers, you are dismissed without a hug.
Those who survived by being glittery don’t make it in this environment. I went from one huge company that was cut throat to another that was soft. I hated the soft and wanted to go back to the cut throat, even though it was stressful as heck. The soft environment teaches whiney people how to whine and who to whine to, they someone make it in the org but then everyone sits around wondering why numbers aren’t made AGAIN. I’d work for James and if I got my hind end handed to me for not being prepared, well that is on me. Posted by: Piper at February 09, 2023 12:16 PM (ZdaMQ) 91

Update: A friend tells me that Tyrmand wouldn't force out O'Keefe on a whim, as Project Veritas is very important to him, and he's been running it day-to-day for years.
++++ Of all the things I'm sure of, I am sure it *wasn't* done on a whim. There is something behind the scenes. My guess is that something, given the way the world very obviously works now, was an enormous volume of pressure, threats, money and favors that all boiled down to, "get rid of this person and this enterprise, and do it now." Maybe this changes as more leaks out. Maybe O'Keefe is a corrupt monster who is a gigantic liability that cannot be defended or tolerated. That's possible. I just doubt that it's likely. As soon as that started I would have left. Was he being held prisoner? If I remember, Ben Franklin was treated that way in London before the Rev. It made him harder for it, so maybe these guys might have made a mistake. ========= Yes, the session in the aptly named Cockpit, where the Lords assembled (none of them his allies) etiquette-shamed Franklin for publishing private correspondence to win a political point. Franklin, who was in his Sixties, was made to stand for over an hour and was not allowed to speak in his defense. (Pretty sure O'Keefe spoke a lot though.) He was also stripped of his position as Postmaster-General for the American Colonies, which was lucrative enough to sustain him as a gentleman scientist & pundit. But "right" as a stand in for "conservative" forgets that "to conserve" is a transitive verb and "conservative" is relative to what is wanted to conserve. I hear people say that "right" is about order and "left" is about freedom. But that wasn't even true in the French National Assembly to which those terms most immediately apply to. 90 My bet, knowing none of these parties, but based on LinkedIn profiles and time in the Csuite is James Okeefe is a hard nose perfectionist that isn’t swayed by pretty power point presentations.
NFLPA's DeMaurice Smith pushes to end NFL Scouting Combine
Thanks to the social media era and at least three years of college film on the top prospects, the NFLPA boss doesn't think the league needs a combine to physically evaluate a player's capabilities. "Who decided that it was a good idea to take your son and have him exclusively try out for the NFL's exclusive way of getting into the league..." "As soon as you show up, you have to waive all of your medical rights and you not only have to sit there and endure embarrassing questions," Smith said. "And I think that's horrible, and I don't wanna pooh pooh any of that, but would you want your son to spend hours inside of an MRI [machine] and then be evaluated by 32 separate team doctors who are, by the way, are only doing it for one reason? What's the reason? To decrease your draft value." "Why do we insist on them showing up in Indianapolis? It's not for anything physical, right? So, the lesson for founders who are pushed by investors to form a board as a result of transitioning to a C Corp from either a sole entrepreneurship or a partnership, and are about to find yourself subject to board governance - make sure your attorneys write the by-laws such that coups can't happen over simple management disputes and the board seats that you retain have more voting rights than all others on the board combined.
If your investors insist on having more board seats or their seats have more voting rights than you, they aren't investors, they are buyers - treat them accordingly. Posted by: Boswell at February 09, 2023 12:49 PM (+Cgut) 317

I think one of the rules of being a 501cWhatever is that you have to have a board. You can't just go out alone.
Posted by: Warai-otoko at February 09, 2023 12:50 PM (9UlRk) All C-type business and charity organizations have boards and corporate by-laws that govern the activities and management of the organization. Just make sure that if you founded that organization, you make the by-laws and you retain the most voting rights on the board - otherwise, you are just selling your business to these newly minted board members - at that point, you need to make sure you made enough money for the business you founded. Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" is a magnificent science-fiction film, all the more intriguing because it raises questions about the origin of human life and doesn't have the answers. It's in the classic tradition of golden age sci-fi, echoing Scott's "Alien" (1979), but creating a world of its own. I'm a pushover for material like this; it's a seamless blend of story, special effects and pitch-perfect casting, filmed in sane, effective 3-D that doesn't distract.

Posted by: Bulgaroctonus at February 09, 2023 12:53 PM (ffbyg) --- The really interesting thing about Abbott and Costello is their innovation on the straight man/funny man setup. Posted by: Warai-otoko at February 09, 2023 12:50 PM You are correct. One other thing about a 501(c) organization is that each and every member of the board/officer is personally liable for everything that goes on within that organization. We found that out when one of the VFW's in our district did not pay federal employment taxes for three years. Every officer of that VFW was on the hook for that money plus fines and penalties and the irs was starting to come after member's personal banks accounts and paychecks before the State VFW stepped in and got that put on hold. Story time.
I once worked for a company with a weak CEO. Weak CEO recruited a weak board member, as they do. Weak board member got a trojan horse into company. Trojan horse was harvard physicist that could not draw a graph. I first saw his resume and rejected him. later, I went to Japan to start up a partnership there. People left in CA sent me resume of new hire - the useless trojan horse. I checked out his resume, and it was different. I was not sure and it took me a while to get back to CA and my records and see that he was the same guy, but now resume was perfect match (assumingly thanks to board member's help.) Bye Bye CEO. (Board member told me that he stepped into position reluctantly ....) It goes on, and even has more intrigue but this is a comment not an Ace movie review. Why would you -- as a board member -- be "disgruntled" with THE founding guy, doing the stuff he did that attracted you in the first place?
It's like firing Henry Ford for building decent, affordable cars. It would take significant chutzpah -- or malice -- to chuck O'Keefe following one of the biggest Gets of the organization's life. Remember, though, that Robin Williams was an actor, not just a comedian. He handled more than a few dramatic, or semi-dramatic, roles just fine. He added a little humor, just a touch, to his performance as the family robot in Bicentennial Man, too. Another actor might have played it *too* seriously.

I would point to Vox Day's take on this, regarding "helpful" people who come offering financial and logistics support to a heretofore conservative organization, only for these "helpful" people to subvert the organization and turn it into controlled opposition.
The board members who ousted O'Keefe did so precisely BECAUSE Veritas has been so effective at shining the light of truth on the corruption of the neo-babylonians in multiple different prongs of attack against Christianity and the US Constitution. He's one of those guys whose first move is to figure out if you're worth knowing, and if he decides you can't help him, starts looking around for someone else to talk to. Hinckley would be their 3rd or 4th COO in about 2.5 years. The internal organization seems like a train wreck from my observations (similar to many small businesses).
I am betting Hinckley was hired by the Board to provide some gravitas/adult leadership to what was clearly a chaotic org, and O'Keefe just ignored/debased the guy. O'Keefe is probably like Dana White for UFC: "President" who is the head PR/Sales, etc. Not the one in the numbers or running the org. That being said, PV is finished if O'Keefe leaves. Perfect way for the Deep State to destroy their only enemy at this point. Get the board to get rid of O'Keefe, Project Veritas goes out of business because conservative donors stop supporting the company that threw O'Keefe under the bus and there goes any investigative work into anything the Deep State Uniparty is doing for years.
Sure, O'Keefe will likely be able to setup a new company and investigation operation, but that will take, what... months... years? Setup the company, hire people, train people, etc. So that's all time that the Deep State Uniparty now has to run amok with anything they want to do without the meddling O'Keefe and Project Veritas giving them any problems.
