FBI Seized Biden Notebooks That May Contain Classified Information

So irresponsible.

Notebooks President Biden used during his time as vice president that may reference classified information were among the material seized by the FBI during a search of his Delaware home last week, according to a report.

The notebooks include some of the 80-year-old president's writings related to his official White House business, such as notes on diplomatic engagements during his time as Barack Obama's vice president, according to NBC News.

While the notebooks themselves did not have classified markings, according to the report, some of Biden's handwritten notes inside them may reference sensitive material.

A person familiar with the investigation told the news outlet that the president had a "large" collection of notebooks with handwritten notes on both personal and official subject matter, including his family life and his experiences or thoughts as vice president.

Because some of the notes related to official business at the White House, they could be subject to the Presidential Records Act and should have been handed over to the National Archives at the end of the Obama presidency.

I think this is a defensive leak for Biden's benefit, suggesting to the public that all the FBI found was notebooks.

We'll see if that turns out to be true. My hunch: Nah.

The bigger news is that Hunter Biden's emails suggest that he was in possession of classified information himself. Was he reading Ukraine documents Lunchbucket Joe brought home for him, or was he just going out to the SCIF Corvette Hanger and reading?

A Hunter Biden email about Ukraine from 2014 may have been derived from secret information that was improperly shared with him.

"If it doesn't the Russians will continue to escalate there [sic] destabilization campaign, which could lead to a full scale take over of the eastern region most critically Donetsk," Hunter Biden wrote. "The strategic value is to create a land bridge for RU[ssia] to Crimea."

The 1,300-word email -- far more detailed and lengthy than anything else found on Hunter's abandoned laptop -- also referenced an upcoming trip to Ukraine by then-Vice President Joe Biden and appeared to acknowledge the older Biden's penchant for gaffes.

...

A Hunter Biden email about Ukraine from 2014 looks 'suspiciously' like it could have come from classified information, a leading GOP senator has claimed.

Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said the April 12, 2014 message to one of the first son's business partners resembles documents that the State Department gives members of the Senate when they travel overseas.

"It reads like one of those scene-setters -- highly detailed information in terms of Ukraine," Johnson told Fox News Tuesday.

The email from Hunter to Devon Archer includes a granular 22-point memo the Biden scion described as "thoughts after doing some research."

...

Those "thoughts" include the prescient predictions that Petro Poroshenko would be elected Ukraine's president the following month and that "some sort of decentralization will likely occur in the East."

"Thoughts" from the crackhead. Give me a break.

That reference was about "tempering expectations" about Lunchbucket Joe's trip. The suggestion is that The Sage of Scranton could blow the rendezvous with a gaffe.

Was Lunchbucket Joe jotting down classified information into his notebooks to relay to Hunter, thereby increasing Hunter's value to foreign gangsters and potentates?

Note Biden's assistant Katie Chung -- recommended to him by Hunter -- scrambling to find Biden's "note cards."

And note that she asks Hunter Biden if he knows where Joe Biden's note cards are.

From Andrew Kerr and Joseph Simonson of the Free Beacon.

Biden Family Had Access to Materials in Biden Office, Emails Suggest

Biden aides asked Hunter Biden for help locating vice presidential materials
Joe and Hunter Biden in the president's 1967 Corvette (Twitter).

President Joe Biden's immediate family knew more about the location of documents in his possession than the president's aides, emails from Hunter Biden's laptop suggest.

Joe Biden's executive assistant Kathy Chung solicited assistance from Hunter Biden and four other Biden family members in locating "Vice President notecards" from "the office" on Nov. 27, 2018, emails show. The day before, another presidential aide, Richard Ruffner, had asked Chung for help locating the materials, telling her Joe Biden wanted him to have the notecards on hand.

Neither Ruffner nor Chung specified which office they were referring to in their messages, which went unanswered. Tranches of classified records from Joe Biden's time as senator and vice president have been located at his private library at his Wilmington, Del., home and his office at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C.

Ted Cruz now demands that the FBI search Hunter's home and office for Joe's classified documents, too.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Sunday suggested the FBI should search the home and office used by Hunter Biden for any classified materials after such documents were found at President Biden's home in Delaware and a Washington, D.C., office he'd previously used.

"It seems he leaves classified documents wherever he goes. And we also know that Hunter Biden at times was -- declared his residence to be those very same places," Cruz told host Maria Bartiromo on Fox News Channel's "Sunday Morning Futures."

The National Archives is asking presidents and vice-presidents to check their residences for classified documents-- no FBI raid for them, just a request.

And no request that Hunter Biden check his crack squirrel-holes for classified documents.

25 I think this is a defensive leak for Biden's benefit, suggesting to the public that all the FBI found was notebooks.
++++
Perhaps, but it also might be a defensive leak in a different context: to erode the meaning of "classified information," especially as it relates to high officials. Things like notebooks usually end up in presidential libraries and the like. They often contain "classified information." There is a ton of "classified information" that doesn't need to be, because the government likes keeping secrets and its operators like feeling important.

A leak like this could be to try to deflect the public into thinking it is all trivialities (and it might be, but probably not), or it could be to try to deflect the public into just assuming that "classified" == "trivial, probably" - unless, of course, you try to FOIA something.

Yup. So far, I'm sticking my theory on why this is happening, and this action by NARA isn't inconsistent with what I think is going on. There will be more leaks about more people who have classified materials they shouldn't. The condition becomes normalized, they acknowledge a classified materials handling problem, issue some retraining and announce some essentially meaningless new controls and punishments (meaningless because they will not be generally enforced), underscore how it is the cooperation with DoJ and NARA that sets it apart from the Trump incident, and then we all just walk away from it with the comforting knowledge that our elites have been retrained and will be much better in the future.

92 NOBODY CARES ABOUT THIS. Nobody cared about it when they raided MaL and nobody cares about it now. It's just a bunch of hypertechnical mumbo-jumbo that deliberately obfuscates what's really in the documents. It's like private litigation where every document to be produced is stamped "confidential." If there is some truly serious, dangerous "classified" information in any of these documents, then maybe -- maybe -- someone would care. But until that happens -- and I highly doubt it ever will -- then this is nothing more than a bureaucratic problem.

Trump had plenary classification authority, and his team and DOJ/NARA were sparring over things, and the FBI had been to M a L previously specifically to inspect the situation. The raid was indefensible, and remains the story.

And a country so degraded that Biden could be in the WH, and his pathetic family involved in his corruption and misbehavior, sort of just speaks for itself.

This will potentially be important. Insurance makes the world go 'round, and insurance for Russian vessels is already a non-starter. Various countries have gotten together to issue pseudo-insurance for those vessels, but nobody know how (or if) it actually works. When the ban on insurance is extended - which it probably will be - to include any vessel carrying Russian oil products, then one of two things will happen:
1. The insurance system will fracture, and national players are going to hammer out the details and it will get very confusing and terribly expensive but still function
2. Russian exports (by sea, anyway) will essentially end

Place your bets. My bet is that this is sort of what the earlier stages of a breakup of globalization looks like.

I like watches. I have many of them. I came to the conclusion a few years ago that I was much better off buying a simple watch repair kit and some supplies (gaskets, etc.) and a magnifying lamp to do bands and batteries myself. The tools aren't very expensive and it isn't (usually) very difficult. I can't fix a watch, but I can maintain them easily enough now and the kit has paid for itself. On a single watch, it doesn't make sense. On four or more, it probably does.

144 6 I'm sticking with my theory: the WH bypassed the DOJ and ordered the FBI to raid Trump in hopes of embarrassing him. When it went south, they made Garland go out and eat a bowl of shit. His revenge is to have the DOJ tell every other former elected official, "we know that you have classified docs. Turn them back over." Hence why suddenly people have lawyers searching through closets and storage boxes.

Naaah. As you may recall, Wray conveniently went on vacation when the raid took place.

Biden is being extorted or evicted, maybe both. A good guess is it has to do with the Ukraine. It appears the pro-China faction of our dictatorship is starting to push for a declaration of loss.

183 This will potentially be important. Insurance makes the world go 'round, and insurance for Russian vessels is already a non-starter. Various countries have gotten together to issue pseudo-insurance for those vessels, but nobody know how (or if) it actually works.

Yeah, the assumption was that since Western firms currently control the insurance market, that that would be a stranglehold on Russian efforts to ship oil at above the sanctions price. Who knew that there would be new entrants to the insurance market - many of them fronts backed by Russian state-owned firms?

Other things are going on - the UAE is suddenly importing a lot more Russian oil, mixing it with its own crude, and reexporting it as "UAE oil", and enough tankers have entered the grey market to handle Russian exports.

The arrogance of thinking that the West could successfully force Russian oil to be sold at $25/barrel less than the world price worldwide is just astonishing. Top Men.

Posted by: LinusVanPelt at January 30, 2023 12:23 PM (62s8C)

Pleasing, but strictly performative.

Nothing will happen to Biden. If his VP were competent, he'd be out by now - but because she's not, he's not going anywhere. Buttigieg is toast, so he's not moving up either. The Dems have nobody on deck; they'll need to wait until Wes Moore is ready in '28, although if they can push him out there in '24 they won't hesitate.

The press is on Biden now, but, knowing that this is going nowhere, they see this as their chance to prove to conservatives that they can treat him like they did Trump, so it's a win for them as well.

Like I said, strictly performative.

229 Joe Mannix actually it's just an example of globalization. Not making a dumb semantic point here. Globalization is about many many more things than just out-sourcing manufacturing. Even that is about market dynamics, which means cost and price, it's just extended beyond borders.

So new entities springing up to meet a demand (transport and purchase of Russian oil at near-world prices) is perfectly normal, and if anything reflects many of the changes that are vaguely painted with the "globalization" brush. 50 years ago, no way could anything like this happen. Now, there are ample resources, structures, entities in various regions and with varying degrees of association with geopolitical camps to get 'er done.

I understand completely. I don't know what they cost now, but prior to 2020 they were $50 or so. I don't think you can buy a better watch for twice that. They're fantastic little mechanical pieces, and if you stop wearing it it stops running. I've got one my son is already trying to get me to let him wear. I probably will, just because he seems to understand that it's moving away from his kid watches. I'm just sort of amazed he wants to wear a watch at all.

I have a Seiko 5 and another watch that uses a *very* closely related Seiko works. They're excellent and (usually) cheap automatics.

For something a little nicer, look at the "Orient" brand. They're made by the Epson part of Seiko-Epson and are extremely nice, very good (good at keeping time and being reliable) and quite affordable.

I'd really like a Grand Seiko spring drive, which might be the finest engineering every put into a watch, but I just can't bring myself to buy one. Maybe if I get married. I have never had an occasion special enough to spend several thousand dollars on a piece of jewelry to commemorate it.

Sure, except it is increasingly non-global and more regional. That will probably continue. 284 The biggest scandal of the "missing Clinton emails" was not the 30,000 destroyed emails, but the obvious implications of a grossly unsecured server, carrying top level SOS emails for years.

I've heard many accounts from people like Nunez that her server was likely, actively hacked by any number of malign foreign actors.

The SOS, of course, is regularly in direct and indirect communication with POTUS, using the highest levels of intelligence, and discussing the most strategic levels of our foreign and military policy.

That is, the highest levels of WH, strategic policy (e.g. what we would do if so-and-so lobbed a nuke at an ally, or what we would not do), the readiness and strength of our forces, our real concerns, what we don't know about our adversaries, our "secret" commitments etc etc were likely all made known by our adversaries for years --through Hillary's server.

Hillary's unsecured server meant that the Chinese, Russians etc effectively had a seat at all our National Security Council meetings for her entire term of office. Worse than Kim Philby. But that was never even the story. Just "missing emails..."

297 Joe M. this may be verging into a semantic squabble, but I'd say a regional pattern for something like this still just is part of a global bigger picture. Oil is one of the most homogenous rational global markets there is, and always was. Logistical, cartel, and technical factors aside. So Russian oil is probably mostly going to customers who were buying it before 2/24/22, or when not, those customers are substituting it for the oil they were buying then.

In any case, sanctions can have a place and effect on geopolitical or other conditions, but it's very case-dependent, success is rare. Countries that occupy a quarter of the planet's land mass and border a zillion other countries are not very good prospects to influence via sanctions.

The early Church faced a competing Dualist movement called Manichaeism which argued for there being an Evil and a Good God.

Aside from refutations of criticism of Christianity that have been made, Dualism faces its own issues in that it would seem unlikely our world would be so stable if an Evil and Good God were locked in mortal combat. Something more like Warhammer40k or an apocalpytic setting would then be more plausible.

---------
Think back on why the career military, pols, and contractors wanted us to stay in backwaters like Afghanistan or Syria or did not want us to leave Vietnam. Essentially, we have been blowing away about 50-70 billion bucks per year on 'contingency' operations that were not in the regular defense budgets. Think about how few, even on the left, politicians demand peace and disengagement. Same for media. Ditto for career military officers or places like Rand or Brookings.

It is not just the pols involved in Ukraine but a big chunk of our elites in media, think tanks, bureaucracy, and the military. Note how the military is reacting to a potential nuclear war threat in a conflict with Russia or China is versus their plaintive wails in public and Congress over leaving Afghanistan or Syria during the Trump years.

So within the NT there are verses that imply different levels of rewards. Such as in the prodigal son, the brother who complains is reminded that he is the foremost heir, or
"If what he has built survives, he will receive a reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss. He himself will be saved, but only as if through the flames."

Theologically, Catholics acknowledge the existence of hierarchy and differences in the degrees of rewards. So Catholic sources on the topic address this quite directly in their framework.

There may be Protestant or Reformed sects that do as well, I can't claim broad knowledge there.

Hillary's unsecured server meant that the Chinese, Russians etc effectively had a seat at all our National Security Council meetings for her entire term of office. Worse than Kim Philby. But that was never even the story. Just "missing emails..."

Most of this stuff has nothing to do with security, but about preserving the historical record. I am sure biden did not mishandle documents any worse than 100 other top officials in DC. They all have notes and shit.

This is about something else. What?
- Taking him out now that 2 years are up? factions aligned against him?
- IC protecting its reputation by going through motions?
- There is some real smoking gun under investigation?
- TPTB needing a scapegoat for the disasters he oversaw?
- Real Russian influence since he is playing tough guy with his patron.

The problem with similarity=origination is religions have similarities across wide distances with no plausible grounds for connections.

Fish symbolism for instance. Theology and language in early Christianity could be resembles both Confucian and Taoist elements. Confucius is practically Abrahamic in his theology. Taoism likewise speaks of "The Way" and speaks of an eternal and transcendent void.

I heard something during the Sugar Bowl I thought you might be interested in. IIRC it was the 3rd quarter and a holding call against Kansas State was called.

With Will Anderson, the top defensive player in all of college football, playing defense for Bama all season, it was only the second (2nd) holding call against an Alabama opponent, and it occurred in 3rd quarter of a post-season bowl game.

Imagine how well coached the other teams must have been to accomplish that.

The US subsidized the Soviet bioweapons researchers so they wouldn't go and make bioweapons for rogue states, but they left them in Ukraine. It is a black-box research since it is technically in violation of all those treaties, so they don't report to anyone. And the money is sloshing around there, and attracts thieves like Daszak and the like.

So then the loonies decide to brew up bioweapons and export the production to rogue states while making sure the graft and kickbacks keep going to the oversight and regulatory groups
