Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

It looks like a nice place to drink coffee, opine and/or bloviate on your favorite thread at the moment. Furthermore, it looks like a place where everyone is treated nicely and you are encouraged to have a nice weekend.

This is what happens when no caffeine is taken before the work day starts.

What does DNA and coffee have in common on a Saturday morning? Time to read.

nyone who knows me will know I absolutely love coffee.
From winding up everyone in the office every morning with my obnoxiously loud coffee grinder, to asking my boyfriend to bring me a cup as soon as I wake up on the weekends, I can’t do without it.
But do I just love the caffeine hit because I grew up watching my parents drink it, or because I’m a tired journalist working shifts?
It turns out, the answer could lie within my DNA.

1/26 Update – Jane D’oh’s husband is home, after weeks in the hospital! He still can’t feel his left foot (so he can’t walk) but she will be taking him for therapy. Thank you so much for all the prayers, and please keep praying for them both as they navigate this new phase of his recovery.
1/4 – G asks for prayers for his brother, J.
1/7 – Longtime lurker and rare poster Don Draper humbly asks for prayers for his mother Marianne, as she journeys through hospice. Her battle is over, but prayers for a gentle landing would be greatly appreciated.
1/7 – Skip asked for prayers. His boss from a previous company passed away recently. He leaves behind 2 sons, young adults now, and a wife.
1/7 – Wenda’s husband passed away. He had been suffering from Parkinson’s and dementia. He went into hospice a few weeks ago. He’d tested positive for Covid and was placed in isolation. She is grateful he is no longer in the maze his mind had become. He is free to be at peace at last.
1/10 – Flounder needs prayers. He had a heart attack but was able to drive himself to the ER. He is waiting on test results.
1/10 – Olddog in MO’s wife had a hematoma on a nerve and is in severe pain. Prayers for relief and healing are appreciated.
1/10 – A lurker asks for prayers for the husband of a dear friend. “Flier” is having part of his colon removed. Prayers are requested for a successful surgery and a good recovery.
1/13 – Village Idiot’s Apprentice requests prayers for his health. They’ve found a recurrence of prostate cancer 13 years after radical prostatectomy.
1/21 Update – A radiation-based treatment plan is in place, which will take approximately 8 weeks. Doctor is outstanding, and prognosis is very good. Thank you all for your prayers and support.
1/14 – John the River asks for prayers for his best friend, Doug, who has passed away, and for his sweet widow Diane, their son, and family. Doug is free of pain and at last sails the blue waters and leaves the shore behind him.
1/15 – D asked for prayers for Sarah A. Hoyt, the novelist, who has been experiencing multiple health issues for a long time. She is struggling to do the work that needs to be done. Please pray for healing.
2/2 Update – Sarah is feeling MUCH better since the prayer list was activated on her behalf, and sends her thanks.
1/18 – Teresa in Fort Worth needs prayers for help with a decision. Her daughter, Rebecca, is having hip replacement surgery in a few hours. They are worried they are doing the wrong thing. Her hips have been causing pain for many years. It turns out her pelvic bones didn’t develop properly (she has Down syndrome) and her hips are grinding bone on bone. Because of her small stature, there is only 1 appliance on the market, and it may be too big for her. If it doesn’t work, they may need to cut off the top of the bone. Intellectually, they have explored every option, but the Mom side of her is worried that they are making the wrong decision.
1/24 Update – Rebecca’s new hip joint dislocated. She is on more pain meds. They are trying to stabilize the hip and see if it will heal. They have a Plan B if that fails. Lots of prayers needed here, for both Rebecca and her family.
1/30 Update – They are doing another surgery, to replace the ball joint part with a larger and longer piece. Prayers still needed.
1/19 – FenelonSpoke requests prayers for her church, that if it’s God’s will that their financial problems be resolved so they can stay open to the glory of God.
1/20 – Doof requests prayers for family and friends of the late Mrs. Doof. Sunday, January 22 marks one year since she passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, and she is missed dearly. Doof sends heartfelt thanks for the Horde’s prayers and love and support over the past year.
1/21 – Jewells45 asked for prayers for the family and friends who are suffering after a friend committed suicide.
1/21 – Irongrandpa sent thanks for the prayers. His wife is recovering from her eye operation nicely. It looks as if there will be a substantial return to normal vision in that eye.
1/21 - Duke Lowell requested prayers. He has been dealing with Crohn’s for a number of years and it’s been untreated for the last two due to lack of insurance. There’s a significant constriction in the colon that they couldn’t get the camera past. They took a biopsy and he has a barium MRI scheduled for Friday, 1/27. He promises this isn’t the end of him, and he will be here making stupid snarky comments for a few more years, at least.
1/21 - My pimp shot my dealer could also use prayers for an intestinal bleed.
1/21 - Long time lurker, Morgan, asks for blessing upon his efforts to learn Spanish, for better sleep, and to find a church in CDMX. Blessings upon the group and moderators.
1/21 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for her son and a roommate at school, “C”. C had been particularly kind to their son and was a nice young man. He was taken out of school and they aren’t sure why.
1/28 – Hrorthgar asked for prayers for his son. He had chest pains, that turned out to be (non-clot shot) blood clots in his lungs, which are much more treatable than a heart attack. Any spare prayers for full and quick recovery for Keith would be much appreciated.
1/28 – Comrade flounder, Disinformation Demon asked for prayers for a good friend, who recently found out her husband had been cheating on her throughout their marriage. Through marital and spiritual counseling, they had decided to persevere, which included basically telling everyone (to avoid the cycle of shame) and putting their faith in God to help them repair their relationship and strengthen their family. It takes a log of personal and spiritual strength to not just walk away nowadays.
1/28 - Tonypete asks for prayers for his daughter. She continues to make very poor life choices and now finds herself living in a hovel with bottom of the barrel roommates (like herself) and two actual pigs. The place is filthy and should be condemned. She has been blessed with all she needs to live a happy, fruitful life and yet rejects it all.
1/28 – mindful webworker sends a few requests: Daughter may be pregnant, after 2 miscarriages. She is married to a great guy, and they would be good parents. MiladyJo has been hobbled with leg-foot pain. Local sonM is a good guy who could have better, healthier habits. Remote sonC is still estranged. He will not reply to them and they haven’t been allowed to see their two grandbabies for over a year. Prayers for the Spirit of Truth to get through the barriers of pride and anger. Prayers for family, community (online and off), nation, and world.
1/31 – Grannysaurus Rex asked for prayers for her beloved young grandson, who is struggling with anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. Pray that he continues to put his faith in God as his foundation to sustain him. Prayers also for his mental health professions to help him resolve these issues.

Not quite comfortable with this cremation funerals, maybe something never saw much in younger days so that is reason.

I haven't added these to Annie's list, but if you could find it in your heart this morning to pray for the families of two of my co-workers.

One adopted her grandchildren some time ago, after their mother overdosed. The boy, A, has lingering behavioral problems and has recently began confiding in the youth pastor. I pray that this is a healthy relationship for him and leads to recovery.

The other is attempting to adopt her niece--absent mother, father incarcerated. Child's family is trying to thwart the adoption. May the Lord pave the way for this child to have a safe and happy home.

Please pray for J's friend W, whose beloved wife died of cancer a couple of weeks ago.

Bingley and I are about to hit the road for the final leg of our journey from Wyoming to SC. I've been in Gville for over a month but had to return to pick up my freshly re-transmissioned Jeep, B, and the firearms. The Jeep has been awesome, B has been a great little travelin' cat, and we only have about 4 hours to go.

Thanks to Annie and MisHum for including my last week's family prayers in the post today. Update: Daughter was not pregnant, it turns out, but they're going to keep trying. MiladyJo is still hobbled with leg pain. Y'all's prayers welcomed - my own faith might be too feeble to get through.

We've been away from home for a week - the neighbor texted me and said a propane supplier topped off my tank. Funny thing is, we have no relationship with this supplier.

161 A buddy of mine who's long retired from the USAF but flies commercial now told me this about the Red Zeppelin;

It was tracked from it's initial launch area in mainland China, it crossed over Alaska and down the western part of Canada before entering the US. There is useful intel to be had just observing the path the balloon took. What was of interest to the Chinese? What sensor does it have? What is its capabilities? And so on. If (a huge caveat here) our military and intel people were on the ball they very well may have taken the opportunity to feed the contraption a bunch of bullshit to confuse the ChiComs. They certainly had the wherewithal to jam the various sensors on it.

It's equally plausible incompetency played a role, as did the likelihood senior FedGov officials are in bed with the ChiComs. The general outrage from the public seems to indicate the decision to leave the balloon alone was the wrong decision. But it fits with possibility number two here.

We were just discussing buying new batteries for cars on the EMT . . . and now I need one. At the tire store, they finished my alignment, but then had to jump start the car because, they tell me, the battery is weak. I bought it from AAA in Aug. of 2020, so it is still covered by warranty, and I've called them. But . . . to do that I first had to refill my phone's air time online. Normally they send me text after text to remind me to refill; but not this time.

With the new battery, they can reset everything. Right now the radio -- the entire display, including backup camera -- is out. The tech said to let the battery guy know to reset it.

Not the fun Saturday I envisioned. But it's a very good thing I went to the shop, or the car might have gone dead tomorrow, or at work.

Got 150 gallons last month and the next time we will need oil will be in late November. The house is a small ranch, full basement and pretty well insulated. Been in it since October 1974. I installed the present furnace myself and the central air myself in 1992. Updated the burner since then.

Looking at the high-altitude winds, it's either going to get ripped out to sea soon, or lazily drift west if it gets warm enough to get more altitude.
