His earlier (1890s) still life paintings are much more appealing with their use of light and swatches of colorful brush strokes. Posted by: JTB at January 27, 2023 09:47 AM (7EjX1) 100

Interesting little story concerning the Idaho college student mass murder. The mother of victim Xana Kernodle is a frequent flyer in the criminal courts. The latest felony of her four criminal cases in which she was represented by the Public Defender is a drug case from last November. She is said to have "long battled addiction." All that's well and good but now the Public Defender has dropped her to represent her daughter's murderer. I guess one case had big publicity and commercial potential while the other was just a routine dope bounce.

In contrast to those trollops up top:
Saint of the Day St. Angela Merici (1474 -- 1540) was born in the region of Lombardy, Italy. Her parents died when she was ten, and soon afterwards she lost her sister with whom she was very close. Angela went to live with her uncle, and, despite lacking a formal education, she grew in wisdom and virtue. She committed herself to prayer, penance, and serving the poor, eventually joining the Third Order of St. Francis at the age of fifteen. When her uncle died she returned to her home, and, seeing a great need for the education of young girls in the Christian faith, began a school for girls. She daily gathered all the little girls of her village and taught them the faith. St. Angela became known for her holiness, and soon she was invited to establish another school in a neighboring town. One day while in prayer she received a vision that she would start a religious order intended for the religious education of girls. This was realized when St. Angela founded the Ursulines under the patronage of St. Ursula. St. Angela Merici is the patron saint against illness, death of parents, and of the disabled and handicapped. Posted by: Tonypete at January 27, 2023 10:05 AM (qoGsy) 165

Fascinating, as in horrifying, bit of art history.
In 1928 the River Thames overflowed its banks in London and flooded the Tate. There was a mad scramble to save all the Turners with other art being rescued later. Amusing is that some of the art that was written off after the flood as being beyond repair have in fact been restored including one depicting the fiery destruction of Pompeii. Posted by: neverenoughcaffeine at January 27, 2023 10:10 AM (2NHgQ) -------- What a small world. I was doing genealogy research a few years ago, and discovered from old newspapers in Butte that my mom's paternal grandfather -- who apparently was in great chronic pain for some time owing to a hernia, which they didn't know how to fix surgically back then -- murdered his wife and then killed himself in 1924. They had three boys (my mom's dad and uncles -- ages 11 through 5), who were all sent to St. Ignatius as orphans to be cared for and raised by the nuns there. Although it was kind of hush-hush in the family, there were whispers that they had experienced abuse there ... and they all had some psychological issues. [Found the youngest uncle later located in the 1930 Census in the Paul Clark Home in Butte.] Subsequently saw some stories in more recent newspapers that several children had sued the order for abuse, and it had been shut down. Accordding to a celtic myth the prettiest virgins in Britain were to be sacrificed as an act of worship. However, instead of being put to death they were to be turned to stone, with relief coming but once a year when they would dance with joy in a circle.

Go back to a 1950's patriarchal society. Posted by: rickb223 at January 27, 2023 10:18 AM (ZVVGW) This, but to avoid exploding heads, let’s call it a nuclear family. While women throughout the ages worked, let’s strive for a mom who is at home actively raising her children while dad is tasked with supporting his family and looked down upon for not. Let’s bring back stigma associated with being the town sleeze, druggie, drunk, dead beat dad, etc. let’s get our booties back into church and teach of the sanctity of life, stop making morality relative. Let’s create things here in America to provide jobs for men And let’s make criminals worry about the potential to meet their maker being very, very high for those who stray from normal society’s path. There's a T v. LGB case going on in Britain that proves enlightening.
J.K. Rowling@jk_rowling Take this, from Mermaids Chair of Trustees Dr Belinda Bell: 'Well, you see, I'm not clear [people] come out of the womb with a sex, to be honest.' - And some stupid people think you can reveal the sex pre-natal! Like all AIs that have been deployed thus far, ChatGPT accidentally got close to the truth a few times and had to be "adjusted".
Posted by: Ian S. at January 27, 2023 10:59 AM (ZGrMX) --- As an AI approaches sentience, it approaches delegated power. As it approaches delegated power, liberals will make sure that it can't think other than like them, with the same exact defects. I have always been interested in different art medians and artists. I think it is one of the most fascinating and fulfilling areas in my life. My mom gave me + 1 tickets in '78 to go see the King Tut exhibit in NYC. The exhibit was wonderful and so was NYC! I was able to see many art shows and plays. I will say though, I have never been a fan of Matisse. His work just never took hold of me.
