Biden to Send 31 Abrams Tanks to Kill Russians in Ukraine

Make sure you thank Mitch McConnell and the Seditious Seventeen for this. They all voted to defend Ukraine, while surrendering America.

Just last week, Biden sent another $2.5 billion in American military equipment to Ukraine, including Stryker armed fighting vehicles and 59 Bradley Fighting Vehicles.

Neither of those vehicles is a tank, though they are armored and have guns. They're troop carriers with some offensive weaponry.

The US will be sending vehicles to Ukraine, including, 59 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, 90 Stryker Armored Personnel Carriers, 53 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles, 350 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, 12 ammunition support vehicles, 6 command post vehicles, and 22 tactical vehicles to tow weapons.

The US will also be sending munitions and defense systems including eight Avenger air defense systems, additional munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems, anti-tank missiles and 25mm ammunition for Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, 600 precision-guided 155mm artillery rounds, 95,000 105mm artillery rounds, 11,800 120mm mortar rounds, 3 millions rounds of small arms ammunition, and high-speed anti-radiation missiles.

Now Biden says he's also going be sending actual tanks -- 31 Abrams tanks.

On Wednesday, President Biden announced that his administration would continue to assist Ukraine's efforts to thwart Russian aggression by sending thirty-one M1 Abrams tanks to the Eastern European nation.

Biden's announcement came just hours after his German counterpart Olaf Scholz made it known that Berlin would be supplying Ukraine with a series of Leopard 2 tanks.

"Today," Biden began, "I'm announcing that the United States will be sending thirty-one Abrams tanks to Ukraine, the equivalent of one Ukrainian battalion."

At the same time, Ukrainian officials are resigning over a scandal involving their embezzlement of funds for their own personal use.

The Wall Street Journal:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has removed nearly a dozen top officials as he tries to contain a series of corruption scandals and shore up Western confidence in his administration at a critical moment in the war.

Though the scandals are small compared with those of previous Ukrainian governments--some of which were accused of stealing billions in public funds--they are nonetheless a blow to Mr. Zelensky, who has garnered praise at home and abroad for his leadership of the country during Russia's invasion.

...

In a series of public addresses this week, Mr. Zelensky indicated he was seeking to clean house by dismissing officials of various levels in ministries, the regions and law enforcement, and tried to present the firings as proof of a break from corrupt regimes of the past.

Jazz Shaw isn't buying the "Zelensky is a corruption-fighter" spin from the Establishment press.

At least four high-ranking officials in Kyiv have either resigned or been dismissed amidst an ongoing corruption investigation that somehow has failed to generate a lot of headlines in the United States. The people involved have mostly been accused of lining their own pockets with money that should have gone to aid the public during the war. Of course, if you read the way the Associated Press covered this story, you would think that Zelensky himself was the anti-corruption crusader rooting all of these rats out of their hiding places. But does that really sound very plausible?

...

The first name on the list should have raised some immediate red flags. Kyrylo Tymoshenko was the deputy head of Zelensky's presidential office. He had previously been linked to "the embezzlement of humanitarian aid worth more than $7 million." That money was supposed to go toward feeding people in areas battered harshly during the Russian attacks, but it disappeared. (It should go without saying that much of that cash came from American taxpayers.) That much loot disappeared from right inside of Zelensky's own office and he knew nothing about it?

The State Department trotted out the Unimpeachably Honest Ned Pryce to say, "Don't even worry about it mates, no American taxpayer monies were stolen, we totally went over it all with a fine-toothed comb from a distance of 1000 miles, and we are 100% sure that the corrupt Ukrainian officials only stole Ukrainian money, but left the American money right where it's supposed to be. Maybe they nicked some Canadian money but that's not real money anyhow."

Or something like that. From Euronews:

The United States vowed to tightly monitor how Ukraine spends billions of dollars of aid on Tuesday, following a damaging corruption scandal that led to a string of resignations in Kyiv.

While Washington said it had no evidence western funds were being misused, US State Department Spokesman Ned Price promised there would be "rigorous monitoring" to ensure American assistance was not diverted.

Several senior Ukrainian officials were dismissed on Tuesday, in the wake of a corruption scandal surrounding illicit payments to deputy ministers and over-inflated military contracts.

Well as long as there'll be "rigorous monitoring" of all monies from a distance of 1000 miles, I'm totally reassured. Not sure why we didn't already have "rigorous monitoring" over the $100 billion we've spent in Ukraine so far, but I'm sure Ned "Good as Gold" Pryce has a slick answer for us about that that is totally candid and plausible.

Meawhile, rumor has it that Vladimir Putin is negotiating with the Tabilan to buy all the advanced US weapons Biden left behind in his disgracefully chaotic bug-out.

VLADIMIR Putin is plotting to grab weapons seized by the Taliban during the US evacuation of Afghanistan, a so-called Kremlin insider claims.

The Russian tyrant is reportedly in the midst of negotiations with the terror group to recognise the Taliban government.

In return, Putin wants US equipment snatched from Afghanistan by the Taliban to be handed over, according to Telegram channel General SVR, which claims to be fed information by a Kremlin insider.

...

The US spent an estimated 62billion [pounds] on weapons and equipment to arm the Afghan army as they propped up the government after toppling the Taliban in 2001.

...

It is thought Taliban fighters may have stolen as many as half a million US weapons and up to 50,000 vehicles.

...

Estimates state 22,174 Humvees, 634 M1117s armoured cars, 115 Maxx Pros trucks, and 549,118 machine guns, assault rifles and pistols were given over by the US.

Some 33 Black Hawk helicopters, 23 Super Tucano fighter planes and 4 C-130 transport planes were also given to the Afghan Air Force.

I saw an account on Twitter, who offered no cite for his claim, say that the amount being discussed to buy almost all of the US weaponry is $7.12 billion. Nice little discount.

Maybe they'll ship those American armaments to Ukraine. Wouldn't that be just so Biden.

Update: From Christopher R. Taylor

Joe Biden in March of 2022:

"The idea that we're gonna send in offensive equipment and have planes and tanks and trains going in with American pilots and American crews ...that's called World War Three, OK? Let's get it straight here, guys"

We're closer to Armageddon than we've ever been and that's my word as a Biden, Fat.

And I fail to see how a company of killboxes with a proven record against Commie-made tanks can be deployed in a "non-offensive" manner.

80 The Ukrainians know how to fix tanks. They were a major tank manufacturer and maintainer before the war. Tanks that need a major overhaul can be shipped to Germany and fixed by the US, just like Ukrainian Soviet-era tanks are being upgraded in Poland today.

And the US is shitcanning it's forces as well, either directly with woke bullshit and Donk defense budget cuts, or by depleting it's weapons inventory. So Taiwan is sweating.

The one advantage we have is that the quality of the PLA is likely to be total shit, both their weapons and the quality of troop training.

159 The real risk is that the Russian people decide that they are really in an existential war for their existence, like WWII.

Putin's deal originally was that this was merely a "special military operation" that Russians could ignore, if they so chose. It's why he was so hesitant to mobilize even 0.2% of the Russian population.

But now, with rising casualties, German-manfuctured tanks attacking the Russian army, and the high likelihood that the Ukrainians will hit Moscow, once they get suitable equipment, it's looking more and more like a NATO-Russia war, in the eyes of the average Russian.

The risk of a nuclear war is high and rising, which is why we need to be figuring out how to settle this thing, rather than believing that one more escalation will bring Ukraine victory.

215 Peacemaker= beast And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority. One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast. Men worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, "Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?"The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven.
He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.
All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast--all whose names have not been written in the book of life.

- Many politicos do not want to lose their Ukr deals if Russia takes over

- Many others see bigger opportunities in US defense ind. graft.
- IC has been split for years, and the "NATO is the problem" side is down, so the other side "Russia is the problem" is pouncing.

That's why the passing down through the apostles and their students and so on is important. People were in the first place read things differently, in the second the translations aren't precisely the same. Absent the Magisterium and Sacred Tradition (which if they are somehow in error doesn't suddenly make any joe's interpretation correct) you're flying blind.

272 160 The real risk is that the Russian people decide that they are really in an existential war for their existence, like WWII.

I warned my parents about that factor. Russia has a historically earned fear of being attacked by outsiders. It goes all the way back to the Mongol Yoke, and it hasn't really changed much. Putin is also afraid that an Ukranian government that's not under his influence will be used to hinder the Russian economy, to his detriment and to the detriment of his successor. (Given the WEF, he can worry.) Remember, he warned the West in 2014 that inviting Ukraine into NATO would have consequences. Trump believed him, but the Potato's handlers didn't.

Posted by: Commissar of Plenty and Lysenko Solutions at January 25, 2023 04:37 PM (3BDA1

President Swalwell or whomever is likelier to go nuclear on the US than Putin is. At least for the foreseeable future.

The thing that might change that is if the US forces we're inevitably going to commit eventually threaten to achieve an actual victory. Which isn't going to happen, because that's not how any of this works anymore.

We're going to trudge and blunder our way into another generation-long conventional war, and we'll lose it in a humiliating fashion that destabilizes a significant portion of the globe, the American Way. We will likely generate a host of new and exciting enemies along the way, but whoever we lose to will enjoy a large transfer of advanced weaponry, a shitload of territory and unquestioned power over their new acquisitions.

People always like to bring up the "Telephone game" when this topic comes up but there are several flaws with that.

2) There was a lot written down, within a few years of the events, by eyewitnesses, which are quite trustworthy

We have a complete Torah from 1250 and complete New Testament manuscripts from AD 350. Many incomplete fragments exist from before then, but even those show some slight differences. There are long gaps between the actual revelations given to God's Prophets and the extant fragments, and more gaps to complete manuscripts.

Also, the Bible references scripture that isn't in the Bible, so we definitely know the Bible isn't complete.

Further, John 21:25 explicitly tells us the Bible isn't complete, "Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written."

IIRC it led to the development or refinement of the (F6?) Hellcat in pursuit of that goal.

It's crazy how a single little accidental thing like that can turn the tide.

The reliability of Scripture depends on the people passing it on.

The Apostles, then their students, then the students of those students and so on. If the Catholic Church seriously messed things up somewhere down the line, it's not really recoverable unless another correct group had broken off before that point.

The Orthodox and Coptic Bibles also differ somewhat, though they're all Apostolic churches with the same root.

Yeah, but it was very strongly a "generally speaking" and "the real deal". Without a singular man embodying antichrist, Revelation is incoherent.
========
Jesus though told his disciples that the Day of the LORD would come suddenly, like a thief breaking into a house during the night. If the house's owner knew the time of the thief's arrival, he would've stayed at home instead of going on a journey. I am suspicious that the leaders of this world of Sin have decided to equip the thief with a fully tricked-out Harley-Davidson.

You don't have the Book of Enoch because Calvinists broke off from the Catholic and not the Coptic Church. You don't have the deuterocanonical books on account of Luther.

There are three main groups claiming Apostolic teaching as the basis for their version, and the Protestant and Reformed traditions use a reduce version from one of them.

Two lost wars would kill any hope of his admin being anything other than a failure. At the same time, they don't want to fully commit, so they keep steadily increasing. From an academic perspective the argument is much weaker than made out to be.

You can find Church fathers questioning it, but the majority do not. Removing them runs against the consensus view and not with it. Other books also questioned were not removed. At the end of the day, Luther's theology had serious issues with them suggesting a motive to remove them.

Furthermore, they are regularly referenced in the NT, which while not conclusive itself indicates that the Apostles held them in high opinion.

464 Yeah Luther had times when he struggled mightily with James because it was so works-focused (sanctification) and Revelation is largely so cryptic and fantastical. In the end, he agreed they were canon but had moments.

The thing with Revelation is, people seem to forget the first few chapters which are direct, specific, and dreadful warnings about churches that are straying from the truth of God. That part gets skimmed over to get to the "can I figure out what stock to buy tomorrow from the Bible?" speculation.

The "Akutan Zero", found in the Aleutians after whatever that secondary Japanese operation up there during Midway was, was brought here to North Island. Navy pilots flew it and indeed came to appreciate its possible weaknesses (one reco if jumped by a Zero: dive, and turn left). The plane sadly was wrecked in a taxi-ing incident at a military airfield just after the war, would have been a great historical item.

Once again, it was not just Luther. I know he's an easy target for Roman Catholics (because they don't really learn much about his actual motivations and intents) but he didn't decide what was scripture by himself and mind control the world to go along. Even Bibles which contain the Apocrypha put them into a separate section as "not quite scripture."

486 Those were always considered questionable and not as high as scripture, even in the Roman Catholic Church. They were never accepted as 100% equal canon, even among their supporters. It wasn't Luther who made that call, he was just one of many theologians through history who did so, but was a more prominent voice.
==
this is sort of inaccurate. St. Jerome and St. Augustine corresponded about this at length. Jerome eventually agreed with Augustine's position. The canon was set accordingly. There was a council and everything. Luther did his editing quite a long time after it was settled, but to be fair, he was starting his own Church and what the heck if you are going to move out might as well build to suit in your new place. At the point he was doing that, he wasn't reforming, he was starting over. I mean I get it - he a point about the corruption of the hierarchy. Still existing problems. I'm not leaving it. They'll have to leave me. That why you get to choose. Everyone hauls their own carcass to market.

525 The Speech Biden should give tonight ........

Believing this as I do, I have concluded that I should not permit the Presidency to become involved in the partisan divisions that are developing in this political year.
With America's sons in the fields far away in Ukraine, with America's future under challenge right here at home, with our hopes and the world's hopes for peace in the balance every day, I do not believe that I should devote an hour or a day of my time to any personal partisan causes or to any duties other than the awesome duties of this office—the Presidency of your country.
Accordingly, I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your President.
But let men everywhere know, however, that a strong, a confident, and a vigilant America stands ready tonight to seek an honorable peace—and stands ready tonight to defend an honored cause—whatever the price, whatever the burden, whatever the sacrifice that duty may require.
Thank you for listening. Good night and God bless all of you.

You would be interested to learn more about the compilation of the bible from a Catholic perspective. It involves a lot of study about the church fathers.

Many people have studied the church fathers and decided to become Catholic. These are generally not stupid people, who were easily swayed from their prior faiths by emotionalism, or ulterior motives. Often they left behind a lot more worldly things than they thought they would gain by changing faiths. Its a more serious subject than a lot of cradle protestants appreciate. Much like a lot of cradle catholics don't appreciate bible study until they get stuck.

Russkis regularly add a statement to their pronouncements about how facilities and rail involved in transport of western military supplies are "legitimate targets" for them. But they have not actually attacked them, much.

Some warehouses and training areas in the west, some intermittent attacks on rail infrastructure in the east and southeast (mostly on electrical infrastructure, and rather logically on the one major diesel-locomotive service center, as the Ukes really need more diesel-powered traction, as they can't protect or always instantly restore their power grid).

It's funny how many "Christian traditions" fall apart when you ignore the theologians and start digging into the Bible. Example: Where does it say in the Bible that God would simply stop following the pattern He followed over and over and over again of revelation via the Prophets?

Nowhere.

It does, however, say that God doesn't do anything without first revealing His secrets to the Prophets. (Amos 3:7)

Does any Christian person really believe God has ceased to act? Do Christians believe all the acts of God are right there and nothing else is to be revealed?

A lot of people will argue the Bible contains everything we "need to know." That's not scriptural. I refer you again to Amos 3:7.

For example, how SURE are we that escalating our supply of proxy-warfighting equipment isn't going to cross a true red line for Ivan, that makes him counter-escalate by, say, shelling or rocketing supply lines in Poland or Germany?

And even if Ivan presently intends to only send only a warning shot assuming we will then back down, how SURE are we that the response of other NATO members (such as Poland) doesn't then cause a direct NATO response that Ivan can't ignore as a direct act of war?

And God Forbid even the Moron in chief goes face down in his mashed potatoes in the midst of this, how SURE are we that the Diversity Hire In Chief won't just panic and order some stupid "surgical air strike" on Russian positions?

Remember when "stability" was an actual goal in foreign policy? F*cking children.

1. This has actually happened a number of times before. This is why Catholics teach that God is not going to secretly refound the religion through a charismatic leader of some sort.
2. Why does it make sense that there'd be a sudden and very long break in tradition, followed by resumption from a very small number of people? Christianity directly followed from authentic and true Jewish practice. There wasn't a skip, let alone a millenia long one.

The part of the country being fought over now is hilly, poorly roaded by Western standards, forested, and every village and hill between villages has been fortified for 8 years. The Russians latest change is that they are doing to same to the areas they hold now.

The Thunder Runs that induced the fall retreats - possibly executed by actual NATO personnel - had some effect over the very lightly held 'side areas'. Russia has since raised 300,000 more men and activated an unknown amount of regular troops to avoid a repeat. And the Thunder Runs didn't lose the Russian anything but ground and pride - a cut off garrison was extracted a week or so later by a counteroffensive before retiring to the new line. At present these gains in the east are being taken back methodically.

The problem you run into is that if ancient Christians are wrong in treating him as the Captain of the Apostles, the Protestant tradition is merely a derivative of an erroneous sect. There isn't some entry point where Protestants can learn the true faith, they're just modifying what they got from the Catholics.

As noted regarding the Mormons, they resolve this by claiming Divine Revelation. Which has been how a fair number of now extinct sects started.

Here's the thing. Future generations of Christians rely on the prior ones to transmit accurately. Unless claiming separate divine revelation like the Mormons, Protestants rely on Catholics as reliable transmitters of information. Which if wrong, means that Protestants are interpreting information received from a group they believe to be communicating information incorrectly. How do we know what part of what Catholics pass along is then reliable?

Catholics believe they are transmitting authentic original information through Sacred Tradition, which Paul explicitly notes passing down to them.

many "attitudes" are unworkable. I'd have to look up that usage of traditions, but Paul said most had left him before he died. Few remained "faithful". Sure, there are good and bad traditions.

And yeah, the question of how exactly we got "the written Word" is interesting. We have no originals, so we have to make sense of what we have. I think "the humble spiritual man" can do that.

The U's use modern, green Electric trains. The strikes on the power grid stop all but a handful of evil polluting trains. Attempts to get diesel engines there have been stymied by the different gauge rail there - tracks are a different width in Russia and former Russia.

664 No one operates a fully functional Abrams but the US. All the supposed secret stuff probably doesn't come as part of the package.
Posted by: Black JEM at January 25, 2023 05:38 PM (UVyKP)

There are capabilities the Abrams doesn't have, and there are things you did in the '70s you just wouldn't do today. Hard and soft kill APS are standard. So is ERA. It has a high frequency radar built in to the tank and all the necessary fire control to hit drones and helicopters with its main gun.

Plus the Koreans have a munition called KSTAM, which is a kind of indirect fire EFP top attack thing which can be fired from the main gun. That is, the K2 can kill you before you even get to the battle.

It's just a better tank.

The Chief Priest at the time of Jesus was many things, but not inauthentic.

It's a job. The Pope is not a prophet(compare the Chief Priests of Judah to John the Baptist for instance), he's the guy tasked with overseeing certain responsibilities.

Posted by: Red Turban Someguy - The Republic is already dead! at January 25, 2023 05:56 PM (eYoxG)

666 Makes 0 difference. As Col. MacGregor has pointed out, Ukraine has lost 120,000 men. They have 40,000 men missing and considered dead. And they have another 200,000 casualties. That's basically everyone. In fact, the Nazi Azov battalion and Zelensky's special security detail are going around the country forcing old men and boys to fight.

And Russia hasn't even started their major offensive yet, which has 300,000 fighting troops, 700,000 men total, thousands of tanks, drones, etc. Right now they're shelling with 60,000 rounds of artillery every day, and Ukraine is fighting back with 10% of that.

The US started this war by establishing a coup, and threatening Russia with NATO. Russia has been warning for decades about NATO encroachment to its borders. And here we are.

By the time the tanks get there it will be over. And we are already IN WW3.

668 I was *just* reading a book about Midway that had a page or so mentioning that there are lots of people who think the tide turned because of one crashed but mostly intact Zero (piloted by a man named Koga) allowed the U.S. to study and fly it and learn its weaknesses and how to more easily defeat it. IIRC it led to the development or refinement of the (F6?) Hellcat in pursuit of that goal.

It's crazy how a single little accidental thing like that can turn the tide.
Posted by: Did you realize you might own a Class III short barrel rifle now? at January 25, 2023 04:51 PM (q8U4k)

The Zero in the Aleutians was helpful in designing the changes to the F4F and other planes to dominate the zero, but even before the war started Chennault and the Flying Tigers had plans to mitigate the advantages of Japanese planes and exploit the disadvantages.

The carrier fighters *at* Midway had the "Thatch Weave" where two planes would zigzag in sequence so that one US plane could shoot a Zero off the tail of another F4F before its guns could kill it.

The 300,000 are reservists *added* to the forces in the field. Russia has many regular forces that were not originally present in the war - and some new ones were definitely added to the mix as well.

671 The 300,000 are reservists *added* to the forces in the field. Russia has many regular forces that were not originally present in the war - and some new ones were definitely added to the mix as well.

That's true and not true. The Russians called up 300k, but about a third of them never showed up for one reason or another. Half of the ones that showed were sent to the front to plug holes after a ten day refresher course and were mostly slaughtered. So the real number of trained mobiks hitting the front now is about 100k. That's a lot, but Ukraine is a country of 40 million.

In terms of the forces Russia has that it's not using, there's only so much the Russians are prepared to strip from their defenses along the Chinese and European borders, and they need the Interior Ministry troops to keep order inside Russia. The last thing Vlad wants to see is a revolution in Chechnya and Dagestan while he's trying to fight a war in Ukraine.

The Russians used nearly all of their available combat power to invade Ukraine. If that weren't the case there would never have been a mobilization.

hmm, thanks for posing your position, interesting. But if the "Church" is built on the papal dynasty (or whatever) ... no, it is not just a job. ... For centuries the pope (allegedly) spoke "ex cathedra" (from whose throne? from the right hand of God?) , and eat fish on Fridays?, which (pagan) tradition was "THE Church" appeasing?

No ... Luther was just the beginning of much needed reform, parallel to reform need for America today.

675 For centuries the pope (allegedly) spoke "ex cathedra" (from whose throne? from the right hand of God?)

All "ex cathedra" means is he's speaking as the head of the Catholic church and not as an individual. The pope can have all sorts of opinions as a man and a priest that are just that - his opinion. When he's speaking "ex cathedra" he's saying "this is official church doctrine".

That was a one-shot thing and the Russians already took their shot. They can't support 60,000 shell days like they could early in the war. They don't have the tubes, they don't have the ammo, and they can no longer stage ammunition near the guns like they could in the early summer. Because of those "fancy smart weapons".

The Catholic church teaches a pope speaking "ex cathedra" is divinely inspired, and what he says applies to all Christians.

682 "The Catholic church teaches a pope speaking "ex cathedra" is divinely inspired, and what he says applies to all Christians." Posted by: Ace's liver

sure ... but I think you are downplaying it. Many of those "ex cathedra" (from the throne of God) claims in the past have been as evil as "global warming" or "get the vax" or whatever current lie of the day is.

So when current commie pope takes control, how can Catholics not understand their faith has been undermined? Faith in institutions (golden calves or other) have always failed, only the truly faithful are "the remnant".

I've fought this battle before, but as the pope goes full commie, I just don't get how many buy into the con, just like the global warming con, the vax con, the 2+2=5 cons.

But tradition is powerful, and I hate my Lutheran minister for forcing that (pagan) Nicene compromise on us all. Just trust scripture, not some three headed pagan half man, half god idolatrous figure.

Posted by: illiniwek at January 25, 2023 06:43 PM (Cus5s)

683 No, I think you're reading too much into it. It does not mean "throne of God". It doesn't even mean "throne" - cathedra means "chair" in Latin. And the last time a pope officially spoke "ex cathedra" was in 1950.

I do agree the commie pope has been bad for the Roman Catholic church, and that his beliefs don't advance Catholicism or Christianity as a whole.

On the other hand... we've had worse, and the church always corrected eventually. You say faith in institutions has always failed, but I think it's more true to say faith in men has always failed. The idea man is a fallen creature is pretty established in Christianity.

One characteristic of the modern papacy is the guys they put in charge are always really old, so it's not like Francis is going to be there for another decade.

Nobody is sending top of the line stuff to Ukraine. It's all aged, outdated, second hand equipment that's in reserve or due for replacement. The Polish T-72s that were sent already and Leopard IIs getting sent now were already being replaced with top-of-the-line tanks from Korea.

If the US sends Abrams tanks to Ukraine they'll be the model we sell to the Saudis, say, or just old tanks from our reserves. We have thousands of old tanks we're not using.

688 Here's the problem the Russians can barely maintain their own weapons and getting western stuff will be much harder. He'll get his hands on the drones and American anti tank weapons. But then the American will transfer the A10s.
I suspect the Russian will be ejected from Donbass and Crimea by end of the year. The Leopard 2 and Abrams transfer will become a decisive factor. Over at the Twitter milblog, a Russian officer remarked about this and pleaded for a step up in anti tank weapons production.
