What Have You Done to Affirm the Identity of a Transpecies Alien Today?
This is a minor article, but it highlights an important question:
How much is society expected to contort itself to accommodate very strange people? The law usually says, of people with disabilities, that society must make "reasonable accommodations." The "reasonable" seems to have been written out of that formulation in today's Woke ClownWorld, and now society is demanded to make any and all accommodations to those who demand it. Twenty years ago it was generally expected that if a person suffered from gender dysphoria, well, that's a sad thing and we'll make reasonable accommodations for such people, but that's generally their burden to carry, not ours. No longer. Now transgenderism is every person's burden. We all have to help hump the load for transgenders. It's no longer their gender dysphoria, it's all of society's: And we are now all compelled to join in Coerced Group Therapy for those with gender dysphoria, mandated to "affirm" their gender as if we were paid workers in a gender dysphoria clinic. The Daily Mail reports on a guy who has had extreme -- extreme -- body modification surgery to realize his dream of becoming a "Black Alien." And he's complaining that people give him funny looks in restaurant!"I had my nostrils and ears removed, and my whole body, including my eyes, tattooed to look like a Black Alien (racist much?), and now the Normies act like I'm some kind of weirdo!"

Loffredo has undergone surgery to have a hole cut through the skin below his bottom lip. He often posts images to Instagram of himself poking his forked tongue through the hole. ... In a previous Instagram post, he had hinted at splitting his penis in two, prompting one social media user to reply: 'I knew you were stupid... but that much??' ... The latest transformative procedure comes after Loffredo had his nose and top lip removed. He later confessed that he now struggles to speak. He had his nose removed last year in Spain as the procedure is illegal in France. Other than piercing and tattooing, body modifications that result in injury are illegal in many European countries.
When he was working as a security guard in his twenties, he realised he was not living in the way that he wanted to.This is all about him feeling more like the Black Alien he knows he really is. It's not about scaring normal people or anything.

As always, it comes down to who gets to define reasonable. I can't stand these kinds of arguments - but it always assume that those in power will subscribe to the same definition of "reasonable".
The current regime in power DOES think that today's expanded accommodations are reasonable. Hence the problem.
It would be better if everyone made up their own mind, acted accordingly, and allowing some consensus to emerge out of everyone's individual choices. But we pissed that away back beginning with the Civil Rights Act.

So we have something like 2000 tanks in Germany. Germany has about 325 tanks. German tanks aren't more available to Ukraine, as you said, and nor is the German supply chain for tank parts more robust than our own, in Germany.
The opposite is true: we have many more tanks in Germany, and many more parts and supplies. We also have a recently deployed mechanized division in Poland and Germany, available for transport and training. Germany has spent so little on its armed forces that they didn't want to send 10% of their tank inventory to Ukraine (probably more like 20% of their fully operational force!). They want America to do it, because that's their default position on everything.

We have had for laws against theft in much of the country for a long time for example. When they get rolled back, people steal, as expected. This is an example of morality (thou shalt not steal) being enforced on a population and then the cessation of that force. The cause and effect are transparent.
The USSR, Nazis, and French Revolution depended on no precedent or grant of power to commit atrocity. They just went out and did it. It wasn't due to the existence of laws or police forces that they were able to do what they did, they created new entities as needed. Just because you want to "ban guns" metaphorically, doesn't mean everyone else will refuse to have them.

There's certainly plenty in our current society of "live and prevent all suffering". And there is absolutely no way to have "live and let live" if that premise doesn't include "live and let suffer" as part of it.
But imagine if we tried it. If we actually let people simply suffer for their own mistakes. I assume a small minority of those folks would change their own ways, to something that made them at least suffer less. Most would continue right on, and I assume eventually perish. Leaving the rest of us to "live and let prosper". Government compulsion wouldn't be necessary. Those that could prosper - would. Those that couldn't - would not.
As you said, there's no power in that.

Suicide is a terrible thing for family and friends of the loved ones who took their life and yes, I know about it personally. I am not making a negative judgement on the reasons for it. In other words, I don't think they are automatically selfish because one's mind is in a terrible place. For any skywatchers here, there's a nice parade of planets going on right. Look to the West a little after sundown, and Venus will be bright above the horizon, with Saturn pretty low below. Jupiter, Moon, and Mars will be higher following the arc of the ecliptic across the sky.
Venus is now in the role of the "evening star". Sometimes it's the morning star, othertimes the evening.
Mercury will be at it's maximum eastern elongation around Feb 1st, and there will be opportunities to see it in the early morning before sunrise. With the treelines as they are here, I've never been able to spot Mercury. It's too bright before it gets above the trees.

I worked in a place that did code reviews to the max. 4 person review, in a meeting, with a design document. The document couldn't include any *actual* code to explain what it did since that might change and require the document to be modified. Review had to be scheduled a week ahead.
Then you would implement the change in the code base in about half an hour.
Then you'd get the next task.
Not surprisingly the layoffs started coming, but since I was an expensive consultant it was off to a saner workplace.

I was consulting at a place where they had a nice 4 month schedule for a project spanning the new year. It looked great on the Gannt chart. I wasn't working on the code but was at the meeting when it was unveiled.
First issue - no time for Christmas or Thanksgiving Holidays, and since the corp was a use it or lose it most were taking time off.
Second issue - no time allocated at all for Integration or Testing.
Got a new schedule, and it ended at the same date as the first.

In most cases, unless the person stated up front that they freely chose to commit suicide, the person was assumed to have been not capable of mortal sin and so was buried in consecrated ground.

And yes, what I stated quite explicitly earlier was that people commonly believe in objective morality and it doesn't align. I even explained in a prior post that republics are a conflict mediation system to handle that. Violence is another means of handling it. Laws are their own form of violence.

You adhere to an objective morality that calls for a certain level of tolerance towards different behavior and views, which is true for basically everyone's system.
We can get to debating which is more practical, but yours does not adhere to some fictional non-assertion of power. You must still assert power for the system to prevail.

Which is a real danger. That's not the same as saying we should let a bunch of people form a murderous cult in the name of liberty. Sometimes, like would've been good with the 9-11 hijackers, you have to act pre-emptively. Recognize danger signs and deal with them.
We got killed as a country through the colleges and appeals to tolerance(broad intellectual tolerance being a common moral position in the US). Brilliant move really.

You're talking about a Darwinistic approach which isn't even the crux of the argument, that is the claim that you put forth that the objective morality of others was tyrannical by virtue of enforcing morality while you doing the same thing wasn't.
Most of us here aren't invested in saving the cities. I'm not. Most of a debate about the merits of a particular law come down to cost-benefit, not underlying principles here.

Truly - I like my dogs. I wouldn't set them on this thing. I care more for my dogs than that. I'd shoot him myself. I've honestly - never seen anything like this in the flesh. My reaction could easily move to grab and use shotgun extremely quickly.
