Ratings for "Woke" Golden Globes Fell 26% From Previous Show

I wish Andrew Breitbart were here for this. He predicted, back in 2015 2011 (has it been so long?) or so, that within five years, all the media would come crashing down, that it would all burn.

His timeline was too optimistic but he was, as they say, directionally right.

The Golden Globes awards show wasn't broadcast last year.

The Golden Globes have been plagued by scandal -- specifically, accusations of taking gifts for nominations. Bribery, in other words. The Golden Globes are staged by the Hollywood Foreign Press, so this is, you know, par for the course for journalists.

But that's not why it wasn't broadcast last year. In 2022, it was boycotted for, allegedly, not having enough diversity in their membership or nominations. It was that, and not the bribery, that actually got them #Cancelled. Journalists don't sweat Pay-for-Play in their work. That's increasingly their business model.

And now, after a year off, the Golden Globes are back, baby, more #Diverse and #Woke than ever.

And more #Broke.

The 2023 Golden Globes on Tuesday night hit a historic low in viewership numbers, bringing in just 6.3 million people, according to data from Nielsen. For comparison, at the height of the pandemic, in 2021, the broadcast drew 6.9 million, while 2020 boasted 18.3 million viewers.

Hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael, the show, which aired on NBC, started with a bang, as he addressed the elephant in the room -- and the reason why last year's telecast was cancelled -- about the lack of diversity among the Hollywood Foreign Press, the awards' parent organization. He also got in a zinger about Scientology's allegedly missing First Lady, Shelly Miscavige.

The Globes' lack of diversity and inclusion may have been enough to keep some viewers tuned-out this year. Meanwhile, as the anti-"woke" warriors of Twitter would indicate, a more self-aware awards show wouldn't be enough to get them interested.

....

Eddie Murphy got a career achievement award and gave an amusing speech.

I like Eddie Murphy and always have. I even like some of his misfires, like Holy Man. But Eddie Murphy's career as a film actor is just too mediocre, and frequently just bad, to warrant a lifetime achievement award.

Is he talented? Yes, including as an actor. He's a good actor in the right roles.

Has he made good use of that talent? No, not really. He peaked in 1985. Once he had the power to choose his own projects, his career went to crap. Decent actor, bad producer.

I was about to write "He finally nailed the black Cary Grant romantic lead he kept trying to make himself into during the 90s in Hitch" but then I remembered, oh right, that was Will Smith. Oops.

Does anyone believe he got this lifetime achievement award for any other reason than the Golden Globes' need to give out awards to #Diverse people? No, exactly no one believes this. I don't even think Eddie Murphy believes this.

Well, maybe Eddie Murphy believe this. And maybe Joe Piscopo. But that's it.

...

"Yellowstone" can now finally stop complaining about getting ignored, too, since Kevin Costner won (by proxy Regina Hall).

One of the few black actors on the show.

I assume. I don't watch it. If I want to watch a man with a mustache glower I'll just rev my engine at a red light next to a cop.

Michelle Yeoh won for "Everything Everywhere All at Once"...

So much #Diversity. We swear, it's just working out this way!

...

But apparently, none of that was enough to draw a crowd. It narrowly avoided missing being the all-time low, but the 2008 writer's strike meant that year had the lowest numbers, with just 6 million tuning in.

The popular kids aren't popular any more.

So what is the point of them?

Update:

There was also Brendan Fraser refusing to show up at all (he was nominated for Best Actor in a Dramatic Role for The Whale) because one of the governors is one of the people who sexually abused him a couple of decades ago.

Posted by: TheJamesMadison, navigating a corrupt and violent world with Clint Eastwood

Oof. I knew Brandon Frasier alluded to some kind of sexual something at the hands of a producer or something, but he didn't specify, then, whether he had merely been pressured into sex for a job or actually forced into sex or what.

Chris Gore of Film Threat keeps saying that the next big reckoning for Hollywood is the Gay Harvey Weinstein(s) scandal that they they're covering up.

12 The Golden Globes have always been the drunker, younger sibling to the Oscars.

They've allowed heavy drinking at the tables for years, and it's essentially just been a party for the elite. If you like the elite, it should be amusing.

If you don't like the elite, though...

Eddie Murphy can do projects that are inspired. Eddie Murphy can also do projects that make you run under a dumpster. I have a buddy who *swears* by The PJs. I believe it was losing out on the Superman role in Superman Returns that sent him off the rails. He put up with a lot of shit, hurt himself a lot for The Mummy movies, and really threw himself into the Superman tryout.

Since it was Bryan Singer who directed it, I can fill in the gaps and assume Singer tried to take advantage of Fraser who rebuffed him, having enough of being treated like a piece of meat, and he lost the role of a lifetime because of it.

177 Eddie Murphy, for the most part, is Eddie Murphy playing a character in his movies. Works for some people like Cary Grant for example. And Eddie may just be fine taking whatever roles give him a paycheck nowadays. Bruce Willis did something similar.

topicals for muscle/tendon issues. My dad likes pain wizard and if my back is really whinging I use it and get relief. I like arnica topicals for everyday use. If I forget to apply them at night my problem areas get sore/tight and wake me up after a few hours. Jeffers.com has an arnica gel in 16 oz jars that has been working really well for me. It has a bit of peppermint so it smells nice, some of the tubes of arnica ointment smell rather funky.

Phrases like "improperly stored documents" that the Fake News/biden junta are already putting out should give a sneak preview in the ultimate conclusion of this nonsense.

Chris Gore of Film Threat keeps saying that the next big reckoning for Hollywood is the Gay Harvey Weinstein(s) scandal that they they're covering up.

------

Weird. I was *just* mentioning Terry Crews this morning on an unrelated note. But during #MeToo, he took the time to point out that the problem is just as bad if not worse among the gay power players in H'wood, and related a story about some bigshot grabbing his dick at a party *in front of his wife.*

I assume he got away with this because he's black, so he has a shield to talk about these weird white queens.

What I took away from that, is that these H'wood execs feel completely emboldened to do *whatever* the fuck they please. I probably wouldn't shake Crews' hand, for fear of mine being crushed, let alone try and grope him. IN FRONT OF HIS WIFE.

Now, while I'm in line, I see a mom and daughter standing by a room, waiting to get the daughter's PASSPORT RENEWED. They go in the room, have a great time judging by all the laughter coming from the room, and take care of it.

I see the two come outside after I walk out in disgust from being told 'they don't do that.' I ask them if they just renewed their passport which they respond "Yes, but we needed an appointment." I tell them the 2 ladies told me they don't do that there and they apologized. "Not your fault, but thanks for listening."
Go online to make an appointment and the website tells me "You Can't Make Passport Renewal Appointments." I just want to pay for the fucking renewal with a credit card as it's a COMPANY EXPENSE and they're paying for it. But no. BIDEN: "My Corvette's in a locked garage, okay? So it's not like they're sitting out on the street.”

So... how's that going to work exactly?

If you checked the "African-American" box on your employer's EEOC checklist, they don't withhold Federal income tax from your paycheck?

Or if you checked the "African-American" box on the government's forms, you don't have to file taxes, meaning you don't get back anything you might have overpaid?

In fact, there seems to a real push for ideologically pure but low IQ candidates in the Dem party, the Senator from Pennsylvania and Patty Murray being the lead exemplars. Easy to control, too stupid to deviate from course, easily corrupted, and viciously attached to the party. Not unlike how certain organizations recruit, oh, say, drivers for car bombs and machete swingers.

Now we have the Kardashians and, well, I actually don't know who the big "hunk" is the womenfolk drool over. I suspect there isn't any. Most of the "stars" I know of are aging badly.

Then again, if they would stop trying to shove Big Mike Obama on us as the ideal celebrity, maybe we could go back to admiring good looking people again.

She's a good little actress. Made Chuck special. Levy was well cast. Hell the casting and character arcs were really what made that show so good.

The crew of Yellowstone probably hates the source material's culture....regardless they are doing all they can to drive the region as it exists to extinction.

To a degree, even though it is an unpopular position I may agree with them there needs to be serious change to the multi-state area around the park.

People lose sight that the Feral Givernment "owns" over 57% of the land in the nation and that land lays fallow often put to no economically productive outcome. Even just growing Sod is better than just allowing a percentage of California's population to sacrifice themselves to the nature gods through their idiocy annually.

509 Couple of notes...

BOWFINGER with Eddie Murphy is an underrated great film, though Steve Martin perhaps is the real star.

EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE was dumb. It's the kind of thing the swells believe is elevated, but it's been covered on Star Trek and the big message in the end is be happy with who you are. Brilliant! It was visually striking but thematically confusing and lame.

THE WHALE was very good. Not everyone's cup of tea, I get, but I'd rather one hundred of these movies than another big budget piece of garbage. THE WHALE probably cost $500,000 to make. Why doesn't Hollywood use the $200 million they spend on awful Marvel movies and give it to the poor. That's what they are always saying right? Don't build a new fighter jet; give that money to the poor. But then when they want to be capitalists no budget is too big. THE WAY OF WATER??? Please...

Embrace change, Harmeet could scarcely do worse than Ronna. If you look at the RNC chair race as an episode of the Gong Show, you will be in a better place. Neither will probably be effective but we like Ronna less---GONG!!!!

The RNC and its ancillary Conservative Inc though is still spiraling down the drain because they cannot square what big corporation donors want and what their voters want. That is why GOP candidates continue to lie and perform failure theater because they are in service to their donors and not to the voters.

The latest is Governor Kemp of GA goes to Davos along with assorted other GOP politicians. That should tell you where his priorities lie.

He is no better than Neil Breen, he plays the same trope every role he plays.

Sometimes a piece fits those tropes and he is "okay."

I rather enjoy "The Highwaymen" where he portrayed Frank Hamer.

Other times it is "wha?" like say for example "Draft Day" where he was absolutely not believable as a NFL GM.

I have only seen YellowStone twice in passing on trips one was where he was protecting a bear from tourists on his land.

Something I doubt he would personally tolerate from a real rancher and the people he would keep funding for election would have objected to given the racial makeup of the tourists.
