Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Republican Senators Betray Conservatives for Last Time#Rexit. Or a #Conexit from the GOP. There is no other way. They will not listen to us, they will not compromise with us. We have to break with the GOP and simply leave the party to form a third one. They have left us literally no other choice. Enjoy your final years with any level of power, GOP.Tom Cotton, as usual. A thick-witted follower. A stupid, mindless war-loving robot. Seeing Tom Cotton on the list is disappointing because he's so good on other issues, but unfortunately, he has a one-track mind when it comes to defense appropriations. Mitch McConnell obviously spearheaded this push, while figures like Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, and John Corny offer no surprise at all. The names mostly make up the same surrender caucus that has repeatedly voted against conservative priorities throughout the Biden presidency. Honestly, Democrats must be pinching themselves at their luck. They have an opposition that refuses to actually oppose them. Rejecting this omnibus bill should have been a slam dunk, especially given all the trash that was included in it. Instead, McConnell and company bent over backward to not only give Biden everything he wanted, but they actually pushed for more spending for Ukraine than the president asked for. They then have the audacity to tell GOP voters that this was a win because military spending was increased. Apparently, I'm supposed to be excited about another blank check to a Department of Defense that can't account for 60 percent of its expenditures. The current Republican Party is making it really hard to care whether they win or lose. When it's election time, we all rally around them, doing our best to pull them across the finish line. Yet, when push comes to shove, they can't even be counted on to oppose massive omnibus packages full of leftwing priorities. They beg for power and then refuse to exercise it to protect the very people who elected them. Why should I even care if the GOP controls the Senate at this point? It obviously doesn't matter either way, especially when Lindsey Graham is rubber-stamping Biden's judges anyway. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Yeah. Trying to reform the GOPe party (tea party movement, Trump) has failed. Plus they like being the minority party. Schmoozing in DC and telling the base "sorry, we can't do anything the Ds have the majority". Well since they find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory when they might gain a bunch of seats, plus stab us in the back anyway who cares about making them an even smaller minority?
BUT the deck is stacked against getting a serious 3rd party and sweeping the GOPe into their rightful spot next to the Whigs. Posted by: PaleRider is simply irredeemable at December 22, 2022 05:41 PM (3cGpq) 38

"Honestly, Democrats must be pinching themselves at their luck. They have an opposition that refuses to actually oppose them."
The Democrats have known this a long time. If the GOP didn't act as controlled opposition, it would have been outlawed long ago. I'll reup. Trump's biggest mistake was that he did not implode the Republican Party then and there after the stolen election. It can still be done and should be done simply for retributive justice, but the larger goal at this point has to be dismantling the United States government and secession where possible. I'll only vote one of two ways in 2024, although I have sworn never to bother again. The first way is for the Democrat. The second way is for whatever party can be formed and put onto the ballot between now and then. My rationale is if the Democrats totally vaporize the GOP, it will die then and there. To be clear I don't care whether it is Trump or DeSantis or whoever. If they have an "R" behind their name they are dead to me. I hope people appreciate how great this betrayal is. The rapist is asking how we like it. We probably owe McConnell a word of thanks. Posted by: Trump poisoned my cat at December 22, 2022 05:43 PM (KSNKu) 49

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at December 22, 2022 05:38 PM (0hOvj) This is why the tech cabal setting NRO and Bill Kristol as the gatekeepers of conservative thought is so important. Bear in mind that even your solution doesn't go far enough: the New York financial interests that Zelensky is aligned with would simply steal a third election. This involves the Kreplachian doctrine of destroying all of Congress: no exceptions. Maybe let the least offensive retire. The problem with an American dictator is that most people cannot be trusted with that kind of power. Even Donald Trump would likely erect golden statues of himself while taking a page out of Sulla. Put simply, while power reveals corruption... it's usually too late to withdraw power from the corrupt. Posted by: trev006 at December 22, 2022 05:43 PM (igJSL) 51

The inertia of the current (failed) two-party "system"* is enormous. Insuperable, looks to me.
The incredible thing is that of all federal offices, the presidency is the one where a true outsider - under the right circumstances - can waltz in and take the nomination, like Trump did. This simply is not feasible in the bulk of other federal (and many state) offices. The structure, inertia, money, networks ("club", old boys' network) keep almost all true outsiders, out. * not generally a de jure system, more de facto, though by this point much of it is formal and de jure Posted by: rhomboid at December 22, 2022 05:55 PM (OTzUX) 123

I suspect the national GOP did a deep dive into how many Republican voters stayed home in 2022 and why. They have concluded they no longer will win national elections, so the freak flag is flying. Good. The problem isn't the Republican Party, which functionally died under W, but the government itself. That has to be dismantled.

Everyone is remembering now why we had to elect Trump. He was the rebuke.
And the uniparty came together to make it clear that no matter how we voted, we would have no say in the matter. I have sometimes wondered how if we negotiated going over to the Dems we would actualy get MORE of what we want because the Republicans are giving us nothing, and whatever you say about the Dems, they will come through for their voters. Say we will support them for a cycle in return for a wall and closing the border, I would bet it gets closed and the wall gets built. Nothing else would change because the Republicans are surrendering on every issue that is of any consequence to us anyway, but at least we would get that one thing. If the Republicans don't want that to happen then what are they offering in return? They just funded all of the leftwing priorities, right down to gender mutilation services. When you only have one supplier you have no leverage in any negotiation. The RINOs know this and have nothing but contempt for us. They need to be reminded by us sitting out a cycle, negotiating a truce, or starting a new party that they're supposed to serve OUR interests, not their own. Because it's the most important election ever. Then win or lose the (R)'s in the Senate will elect Mitch as their leader.

163 Everyone is remembering now why we had to elect Trump.
Say we will support them for a cycle in return for a wall and closing the border, I would bet it gets closed and the wall gets built... When you only have one supplier you have no leverage in any negotiation. The RINOs know this and have nothing but contempt for us. They need to be reminded by us sitting out a cycle, negotiating a truce, or starting a new party... _____ Good comment, One addition. The Republican Party was functionally dead at the national level until Trump. He simply delayed what we are witnessing now. W had reduced the party to a flaming dumpster fire, and it richly deserved to die. The larger point is there is no saving or preserving the United States at this point. The open border says "hi." In at least one venue the Soviets installed a bell to signal the appropriate time to stop applauding Comrade Stalin's remarks. Nobody got in trouble that way.
Of course the stakes were much lower, but the degradation was the same - an old Russian tutor described being at a hockey game in Moscow where Brezhnev was in attendance. At one point, Leonid got up and left his seat. Misha said play on the ice just slowed and then stopped, finally the ref blew the whistle and pointed to a face-off circle where play would resume. The fury and contempt in Misha's voice, all those years later, for a society that degraded are something I'll never forget. Posted by: rhomboid at December 22, 2022 06:15 PM (OTzUX) 219

They should be met with frenzied mobs who're sporting pitchforks, torches, bullhorns and enough Righteous Anger to cause those offices to self-combust, no arson required. Same for every County Republican H.Q. in those states. The one in League City, TX would be vastly improved with a Caterpillar D-11 parked atop the wreckage of the place. Which issues do you think he should go along with? -- I don't know all the specifics, if ace has covered it, apologies. The most recent thing I've seen was an interview he did with Trey Gowdy where they discussed them without mentioning a single demand, and instead talked about all the wonderful things he was going to accomplish. The segment before the commercial break was about how with Schumer running the Senate, nothing was getting done. From what I generally recall elsewhere, they want individual Reps to be relevant again. So everyone gets a chance to offer amendments for up or down votes, and committees pick their own leaders. There are apparently other demands I'm not familiar with. The gist being the House functions as intended, rather than being run top down. Posted by: Methos at December 22, 2022 06:46 PM (kOpft) 372

Posted by: Princeton Reverb at December 22, 2022 06:41 PM (jXAuU) That right there is why they love being in the minority. They don't need to worry about having people attempt to hold their feet to the fire. Because there's nothing they can do. Hands are tied. If only we had the house. And the senate. And the executive office. And SCOTUS. Then we'd teach 'em a lesson. For now we just have to try to reach a compromise. But they still get to do their insider trading and go to all the swell soirees. What reason do you have to assume he is? Trump seems to think he can work with him. Better yet, what is your alternative? Nobody else with any real support is even running. I hope more conservative members negotiate and get whatever rules changes they can to give them more power but aside from that what is the real plan of not McCarthy cause I've yet to hear one. What reason do you have to assume he is?
Here is the HFC rules proposal Enact a “majority of the majority” rule that legislation passed in a Republican House should be supported by a majority of House Republicans to prevent leadership from cutting deals with Democrats if a bill is not supported by conservatives Restore independence of committees by electing committee chairs based on qualifications and effectiveness Diversify the Steering Committee so that all House Republicans can have input on committee assignments Open the legislative process to allow for amendments. Members have not been allowed to vote on an amendment on the House floor since May 2016, and the Republican 115th Congress, under then-Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), broke the record for the most bills being considered without amendments Ensure fiscal responsibility by blocking consideration of any other bill until the House can pass an appropriations bill by August 1. If the House has not acted by September 10, then the Speaker should be prevented from recessing or adjourning until it has passed a spending bill Why doesn't McCarthy agree to it? These last few weeks since the election, I've come to the conclusion that the GOP is unviable. The GOPe failed to support a number of MAGA-type candidates because they weren't "one of them." The Twitter revelations, and the lack of GOP response, are also telling. Biden is opening the border up wide. Now, this omnibus debacle.
The country is lost. The best we can hope for is some sort of Black Swan event -- but hope is not a strategy. At this point, I'm ready for disunion or secession. It's the only way to keep some of the original America. Posted by: Occasional Commenter at December 22, 2022 08:03 PM (GXBIW) 401

If you guys are looking for ideaa, I Learned watching far left register as R, and then voting in primary for either the most moderate or easiest to beat dummy right winger. A strategy they have employed with great success since 2006. A period they had corporate sellouts like Hillary Clinton and John Kerry voting to invade Iraq. They didn't try to save the democrat party they focused on destroying the opposite party. Then gravity naturally turned Democrats more extreme.
