Zelensky: Thanks America, But You're Really Letting Us Down

I do enjoy him doing what all foreign leaders do, which is disrespecting Biden.

Byron York
@ByronYork

Zelensky is apparently prepared to tell Congress that whatever the US has given Ukraine -- $45 billion in new aid now under consideration -- it is not enough. From
@AP Link

Rebeccah Heinrichs
@RLHeinrichs

The problem isn’t the amount of money. The problem is that the Biden admin continues to withhold certain kinds of weapons that Ukraine needs. The Biden WH is obscuring this fact by touting the number.

In a speech before Congress, Zelensky did in fact say thanks, but you must do more for my cause.

So, so, here the front line, the tyranny which has no lack of cruelty against the lives of free people -- and your support is crucial, not just to stand in such fight but to get to the turning point to win on the battlefield.

We have artillery, yes. Thank you. We have it. Is it enough? Honestly, not really. To ensure Bakhmut is not just a stronghold that holds back the Russian Army, but for the Russian Army to completely pull out, more cannons and shells are needed. If so, just like the Battle of Saratoga, the fight for Bakhmut will change the trajectory of our war for independence and for freedom.

If your Patriots stop the Russian terror against our cities, it will let Ukrainian patriots work to the full to defend our freedom. When Russia -- when Russia cannot reach our cities by its artillery, it tries to destroy them with missile attacks. More than that, Russia found an ally in this -- in this genocidal policy: Iran. Iranian deadly drones sent to Russia in hundreds -- in hundreds became a threat to our critical infrastructure. That is how one terrorist has found the other.

It is just a matter of time when they will strike against your other allies if we do not stop them now. We must do it.

The idea that Russia, bogged-down in Ukraine, is going to strike "our other allies," is as plausible as the US deciding to take out Iran while it was bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I don't begrudge him his rhetoric for his own cause. But this is total horseshit, and we shouldn't be afraid to say so. Even if it is the "kind of thing Russia would want to say," as Jim Geraghty's new formulation for Russian Disinformation has it. (See Sidebar.)

Zelensky thinks that his own country is important enough to fight for. I wish that Mitch McConnell and National Review equally believed their own country was important enough to fight for.

Geraghty suffers from a cognitive dissonance widespread in the NPC-infested United States. The moment his internet goes out and he can't shove slop into his pig face because there is no transportation to and from NYC, he'll do a 180. And that presupposes he even is alive. Putin is in a corner and a nuclear first strike now looks like a good option to him.

I agree with your final comments about our "leadership's" disinterest in fighting for our country, and that it's highly unlikely that Russia will invade ANOTHER country while it's getting its ass handed to it in Ukraine. Still, Zelensky used rhetoric which was, in some cases, a bit clumsy, but that's what you do when you're fighting for your life.

60 It is annoying that we are, once again, getting drawn into a war without a true consultation of the American people's wishes. Instead we are getting pro-Uke propaganda directed at us by our own rulers and unaccountable dump trucks full of our money being given to them.

Of course, """our""" representatives (actually the Uniparty's) are all in on spending our money there.

Maybe this is the best way to kneecap the Russians. Maybe that's a good thing. But it would be nice, essential even, to actually have that debate in public.

Ukraine's GDP is about $200 billion. That's 25% of their total output, given to them in cash and in kind by this country in less than a year.

It's $48 billion too much. The millions or billions we spent on color revolutions in Ukraine were too much. The millions or billions we spent on attempting a revolution in Kazakhstan were too much. The billions we spent expanding NATO eastward were too much.

While it has been intimated in many places and probably here at AoS also, FTX and Sam Bankman-Fried was a conduit for money coming BACK from Ukraine and..among other things, to the Democrats for the 2022 mid terms.
Ukraine people (uh, Zelensky) bought bit-coin options at FTX, and these were then filtered back, converted to cash and given to the Democrats (and likely Mitch McConnell, but I digress).
And really, I think this is a pattern that has likely been going on a LONG time; big foreign aid packages to the designated hot thing today, get filtered back to the key politicians who moved it.
Biden, his family and cronies, are corrupt scum. Which is really news to no one.

104 It's not just a matter of having its woefully inadequate and small military, under-funded for years and embarked on a pretty dubious new doctrine and design, that is the point. There are no other "allies" Russia was or was about to or is about to attack. The implication there could be is horseshit.

This is about specific issues of decades' duration and they are between Russia and Ukraine (and between their respective oligarchies). A neutral Ukraine or independent or Russian-affiliated Donetsk and Lugansk mean bupkis to anyone else, period. No vital interests engaged at any point.

The neutral Ukraine goal was probably always unattainable (NATO military aid, training, and integration with Ukraine was already extensive and going on for years), but rolling the dice to get regime change in Kiev (clearly Moscow's initial strategy) had *some* hope of buying some time on that issue.

But the question is why? Why is the intel community so invested in covering up for an obviously compromised president and involving the US in a war of choice that has no benefit to the average American?

245 Ukraine has an incalculable advantage over Russia in that they have a reason to fight-they believe in their country.

That is certainly true to an extent, but Ukraine is still a country that is refusing to let males of military age leave the country, which does bespeak a certain lack of enthusiasm for fighting for Mother Ukraine in some quarters.

Russia does let males of military age leave, but it was explained to me here a few days ago that letting your males of military age leave is a sign of weakness, and refusing to let your males of military age leave is a sign of strength.

If they know they have aggressive, dangerous vagrants to the point that they put up signage about it, why don't they arrest them? All cities have some amount of vagrancy, but it used to be handled rationally. There were limited areas the vagrants were allowed to be (under certain highway overpasses, off the bus yard, etc.) and they were tolerated so long as they didn't wander off the reservation or fuck with the normals. If they broke out of their zones or fucked with the normals, they'd get some hickory shampoo and some time in jail.

It isn't a great system, but it works. Putting up placards about the dangers and letting it fester is a far worse approach.

Essentially, we see what we want to see in foreign conflicts and it devolves into good guys and bad guys. It was thus in Britain and Ireland back the in the day, Israel and its neighbors, China vs USSR, and so on.

Diplomacy is not for the emotional but should be the result of cold, hard analysis by cynical wielders of state power that act toward a country's permanent interest rather than permanence in allies and enemies.

When foreign policy is made on the basis of domestic political considerations, you get a mess that might just get a lot of people killed.

It is difficult to overstate how poor Ukraine is.

They have a quarter of the per-capita GNP of Poland, and a third of the per-capita GNP of Russia.

Of course, they use that to buy alcohol and drugs pretty much, as the amount of resources that big cities and nonprofits already pour on the homeless is huge and makes begging unnecessary. Russia and Ukraine have more in common historically and culturally then say Northern/Southern Italy.

But really that doesn't matter - because no government has the right to hold a people against their will (that whole DoI thing right?). -The generation in power during the 1910s got us into WWI and was way too coddling and entusiastic about eugenics.

-The generation in power during WWII (Not the Greatest Generation, but their fathers) were way too globalist and coddling of fucking commies.

He apparently has the same control over every Western nation in the world. As every Western nation leader is doing the same as the Biden Administration and US Congress has been doing... sending unlimited amounts of their nation's taxpayers' money to Ukraine and outright telling them that Ukraine is more important than their own country's people.

This is not Zelensky's doing. He -- and every Western nation leader involved in the Ukraine situation -- is merely a puppet of the overall world plan of the WEF. Nothing happening here in the USA is unique to anything happening all over Europe and Australia and New Zealand. The WEF controls it all. People thinking this is just a Biden problem are not looking at the big picture. This would be happening no matter what Democrat was President. It is just a little easier with Biden as President, because of his family corruption.

That is overstated and somewhat ridiculous. Essentially Bakmut is a worthless town that the Russians want as part of capturing the rest of the oblast. The Ukrainians are conducting attrition of Russian forces so you get something like Verdun-a symbol rather than any strategic importance.

Right now, no one really has a clue outside of perhaps classified military reports what the attrition ratio is and even where the lines are but like WWI, advances are being measured in meters, not km.

By the way, the winter freeze is what all sides are waiting for as General Mud makes conducting operations off road pretty much impossible until frozen or dried off in the early summer.

The only reason opposition parties are not outlawed is because the two existing ones are essentially aligned on all major issues and have a total lock on the electorate.

They're desperate to hold it. The Russians are patiently squeezing it.

Zelensky has issued fight to the death orders for literally every town in the DonBass. Bakmut, important or not is not special in his callous hold to the death orders.

511 If we're going to help them we should help them. We have thousands of surplus Abrams tanks to send them and could easily produce more than enough artillery shells.

Patriot batteries should help keep Russia from breaking their grid.
Posted by: SkylerKat at December 22, 2022 01:38 PM (9TbBR)

The one Patriot battery we are saying we are sending can possibly defend one point until the reloads run out.

The Russians are hitting targets all over the country, and the grid is already broken in many places.

Posted by: Oldcat at December 22, 2022 01:55 PM (eoQWY)

512 A case can be made for ceding territory everywhere, but it also begs the question; if they do cede ground, cannot Russia replicate the attrition killing ground elsewhere/farther west? An invasion by degrees is still an invasion.

You can straighten your lines out, and reduce casualties.

Russia has a new commanding general in Ukraine - the first thing he did was withdraw from Kherson to a more defensible line.
Posted by: The ARC of History! at December 22, 2022 01:20 PM (KCOCK)

That's why the response to Russia's calls for diplomacy before the war should have been diplomacy. Russia's stated demands were not the dismembering of Ukraine then.

Now, Russia almost has to since after the war Ukraine will certainly persecute any Russian they can find in what territory they have left and the west can't be trusted to even pretend to stop it. Merkel admitted that the West negotiated in bad faith after the last war publicly.

513 Lol, just perusing the language in Zelensky's speech
suggests a full on bullshit story. What, are we the equivalent
of France during the American revolution? They went broke
and endured decades of war and tumult for their troubles.

Patriots are manned by American troops. We are (publicly, and not by Presidential uh-oh this time) saying American troops are entering the Uke/Russkie war.

515 Axshually, that's not true. The US is sending more money to Ukraine than all member states of the EU combined. A lot more.

But your larger point is true. Ukraine was not just a laundromat for corrupt US politicos, the rest of the western world had the feedbag on as well to various extents.

Posted by: JackStraw at December 22, 2022 01:09 PM

I agree. I never said they were sending as much. I stated that every single Western nation in the world is pushing the pro-Ukraine narrative and also sending their nation's taxpayer dollars to Ukraine. Not in the same amounts, of course, but the government leaders are all in lockstep with the narrative and the financial support. My point being that the support for Ukraine is not unique to the USA, it's a worldwide WEF scam involving every Western nation.

Paul Joseph Watson has been sharing updates on this all year, with one of his latest videos showing a clip of some twat in one of the European countries explicitly saying that supporting Ukraine is morally correct and she does not care what her constituents think about it. That is the same attitude shared by every Western nation leader involved in the Ukraine scam.

516 There's a reason why almost all the volunteers for the Russian army come from rural areas and non-Russian areas.
Posted by: The ARC of History! at December 22, 2022 01:05 PM (KCOCK)

That's true of just about every army in every nation.

517 Allow me to make a case for supporting Ukraine.

In the American Revolution, the people of the US sought to throw off the chains of an imperial monarch who was actively oppressing them. This sparked a fairly bloody war. At the outset things looked very poor for the small, largely untrained and under-equipped american patriots. However, after about 2 years of fighting the americans compelled the surrender of a british force at Saratoga. This was an important win because it convinced several larger world players who were geopolitical rivals of the british to throw support behind the american patriots. /1

518
In particular, the French realized they had a unique opportunity to degrade the british military and gain a measure of revenge for their losses in the French and Indian wars. They supported the americans with guns, cannons, ships, supplies, cash and quite a few men. They also put a threat on british territories elsewhere in places like the carribean, which prevented the british from focusing their army on America. French support was very much essential in allowing the americans to fight their way to victory, and France got the benefit of seriously degrading british power. /2

519 The Ukraine similarities are quite similar. Ukraine broke from Russia's puppet government in 2014. In the process it sparked a war in which Russia invaded parts of Ukraine. Now, Russia is trying to regain their position of control over Ukraine (which is why Kiev was the original goal).

In the early stages of the war we gave some support, but it really wasn't expected that Ukraine would last more than a few days. But they did. And not only that they inflicted significant casualties on the invaders. This sparked further support, which has been critical in allowing Ukraine to counter-attack. /3

Posted by: p.mo at December 22, 2022 02:42 PM (6Cx+M)

520 Now we're at a point where if we really throw our support behind Ukraine we'll see Russia sent packing, with their military neutered for a generation. Ukraine has a real chance of winning, just like America after Saratoga, and our support can make a difference.

Know how you can really support Ukraine? Get your butt over there and start fighting.

But don't use another penny of my fucking money to do it.

525 Oh fuck right off Zelensky. You and McConnell can go over the Bullshed and get serviced by the same guys that do David French's wife.

I'm done with all of these Chicken Hawks. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall the worst traitors to conservatism have continued to bang the drum for war, and every time conservatives say, hey, let's focus on our families, our economy, our BORDER, they say, whoa, Hitler, we are going to to over to the Dems if you don't get back in line. Fuck them all.

Posted by: John Milton's Ghost at December 22, 2022 05:40 PM (Q7+tM)

526 What you're not getting is that monetary and equipment support is actually strategically advantageous without needing a single american life to be put at risk. The Ukrainians are doing you a solid, just like the patriots did for the French. All they want is better equipment to kill Russians with.

I'm certainly not banging a drum for war, I'd be pretty happy if Putin left Ukraine entirely, but since there is a war going on over there, and since it is strategically important and useful for Russia's military power to be snuffed out for at least a decade, its in america's interest to give the Ukrainians the tools to do the job for america.
