Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Let's enjoy the world of animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today. That can wait.

Meet The PetMorons

Loki Scion.jpg

&&&

Pippin Ashcat.jpg

From Noman:

I have sent this one a few times before (well maybe around 1,042) AND. YOU. NEVER. PRINTED. IT. One can not achieve that level of loserness without being a long time moronic lurker, or perhaps a very fast typist. So here is try 1,043.

This was Loki, my 235 lb wolfie (when he was fat, then he got down to a fighting weight of 215). A very sweet and gentle boy, looking for what's to eat in my car. Made it to not quite 6, misdiagnosed by the vet with autoimune issues, when it was actually a Lyme variant. Sometimes life sucks, but having had 8 other wolfhounds, William S. had it down when he wrote "Is it better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all."

Also one of Pippin - What evil lurks in the heart of cats....

Awwww . . . Sorry you lost Loki. Looks like he got along well with Pippin.

Considering.

Tess (2208-2021), my border collie, who had to be put down last summer.

She tolerated being uprooted from our Vermont farm to live in occupied territory (just outside the DC Beltway).

Fortunately, she had her "brother" Captain to boss around until his passing in 2019 from cancer.

Love the blog!

What lovely friends you lost. Thank you for sharing.

My angel is under the tree.
Bravo. 100% purebred American alley cat.

Victor

An angel. Of course.

bgpoodll.JPG

This is Badger, He owns a couple of my human friends and is very well named indeed.

He is alleged to be a standard poodle but he is, as they say in the South, touched.

After five years he has learned to not chase thrown pine cones. They bite back. He will however, chase thrown rocks and bite them.

My friend dropped a tree in the yard. After it had finished bouncing and rolling around, his wife released Badger who, promptly ran over and bit the tree.
Except for his odd habit of barking at air and growling at people he knows, he's a very good dog.

Winston

He doesn't look like a badger. He looks like a very good dog.

9 No pets of our own; but, for 2 days this week there was a perfectly marked German Sheppard resting on the property. Not only great looking it looked like it had been groomed daily, really pretty. We think it came in to drink from the 2 water dishes we keep filled. It ran when it was approached.

14 Catman: (if you are around today) You mentioned a few months back that your flat nosed cats frequently pushed their kibble to the back of the bowl. My Persian is still spitting his food all over the floor before eating a couple pieces. Do you have any suggestion as to shape or size of feeding container? An 8" x8" cake pan didn't work, nor did an 8" round dog dish.

Thanks in advance.

28 Love the picture of the Irish wolfhound. Every one I ever met was a sweetie. In my much younger days I had a job delivering feed and supplies to small farms and some dog breeders. One of the kennels had wolfhounds and one had Saint Bernards and the dogs loved me. I smelled like their dinner from carrying the bags of feed and I was one of the few humans big enough not to get knocked down when they tried to cuddle. We all enjoyed the visits.

Still miss my feathered friend 15 years gone, but he'd be proud of his competition/colleague Psciticene Phelbotomist taking care of me tho he did bite my nose this morning, my bad, he got territorial around his cage. An Irish Wolfhound was the subject of the legend of Gelert.

"In the 13th century Llewelyn, prince of North Wales, had a palace at Beddgelert. One day he went hunting without Gelert, ‘The Faithful Hound,’ who was unaccountably absent. On Llewelyn’s return the truant, stained and smeared with blood, joyfully sprang to meet his master. The prince, alarmed, hastened to find his son, and saw the infant’s cot empty, the bedclothes and floor covered with blood. The frantic father plunged his sword into the hound’s side, thinking it had killed his heir. The dog’s dying yell was answered by a child’s cry. Llewelyn searched and discovered his boy unharmed, but nearby lay the body of a mighty wolf which Gelert had slain. The prince, filled with remorse, is said never to have smiled again. He buried Gelert here."

37 Captain Josepha Sabin, I have a regular-nosed cat, so I don't know if this would work for the Persians, but..

Because they are pretty, and I like them, I pick up china dessert dishes at thrift stores and use them for cat dishes. They are about 3" round, and barely deeper than a saucer. Seems like they would work for a Persian.

44 14 I use a set of pasta dishes I got from of all places William Sonoma on massive sale. I can switch them out for a fresh bowl every time, they can be popped into the dishwasher. They are wide and shallow, which seems to help. My boys are on the not so neat side, so it doesn’t really matter what dish I use, they spill food and sometimes, for reasons known only to them, they pull the food out, put it on the floor and then eat it. I do a lot of mopping,

I have thought about a raised platform as they have to really bend down to eat, but if they are just going to put it back on the floor, not sure if that will help or not.

45 polynikes, a surprise gift from an old gf who was going back to the pet store the next day, till I fell in love. A (then) just weaned baby rainbow lorikeet who's break was still black. 46 I don't know if Blimline is a troll or a mocksock, but it's in the wrong thread, about as wrong as it can be here.

But squeaking of bad breath, Daisy Dog and Ony Cat are getting along better g-r-a-d-u-a-l-l-y. Ony was in my lap, and Daisy came up and actually booped her - nose-to-nose, and Ony did not hiss and spit - at least, not at first.

When Ony hisses, I think what spooks Daisy is probably not the teeth and noise, but Ony's roadkill breath. Eww.

When MiladyJo and/or I are in the kitchen, it's "safe base" for the two of them. As if their quarreling takes a back seat to something else. Hmmm. Wonder what!

We had to buy some shallow bowls for our cats for just this reason. They'd push the food onto the porch and make a mess. We have a couple small, but narrow stainless steel bowls and they hate those.

55 Prettygirl is sacked out on the back couch, exhausted from insisting every few minutes that the rain had stopped. I think it finally may have. I should check on whether the basement flooded. (I have a studio in one corner that was a grow room for the hippies who lived here before I moved in. The concrete is very porous and when it rains a lot, the water comes up through it, particularly the friggin' drainhole. The flooding's not bad enough to spend the $ to fix the problem.)

Smelled like a rose until the devil vet sent him home with syringes and two different medications that I (me who hates needles!) was supposed to inject! The needles were longer than he was thick! Thought I would hit a heart or some organ! Then he smelled like burnt plastic till he dropped dead in my hands.

71 None of our poodles liked the vacuum cleaner. They would run and hide in their pen. When it died we didn't replace it as we don't have carpets, just tile and hardwood floors. So we used brooms and dust mops. BIG hit. They saw those as a new, moving toy and wanted to play with them. One boy decided the dust mop was THE ENEMY and dedicated his toy poodle life to dispatching it. Made cleaning the floors an amusing challenge.

___________

I asked someone what percentage of fast food is bought for dogs in the car. He said, "A lot."

91 We always bought plain burgers for the dogs at the drive through. They liked chicken nuggets too.

93 Well, it looks like my formatting and DNS problems may be the result of a deprecated instance of Brave running on an older build of Mint. This laptop with newer Brave on newer Mint works OK.

95 One of our senior rescue poodles toward the end had trouble with many foods but burgers were always welcome. We always got an extra burger, no bun or condiments. The second it was gone he looked at us expectantly as if to ask: "Where's the next one?" His favorites were from Roy Rogers.

96 Heh. The desktop got the format right this time. Still, I am going to log out on this desktop, and begin saving files off it to use in a new install of Mint.

98 Thanks JQ, It's a weird night stand m and d bought in the early 60's. It has a drawer with a wood carved handle as a rose and the bottom looks like a string instrument. It will be quite the project.
