  • Kanye West is not buying Parler after all. (Axios)

Bullet dodged. For both parties, but after today, particularly for Parler.
Ye has just around 55,000 followers on Parler, compared to 18.5 million on Instagram and zero on Twitter.
    Oops.

  • The Ikea desk legs I needed for my main office, that were out of stock for weeks, came back in for days, and then went out of stock again, are back in stock.

I ordered 35. I think I need 31 - maybe fewer if I use fixed drawers rather than the mobile ones, since you can mount the desktop directly onto the drawer units. Since the legs are $4 each and they've been blocking my plans for thousands of dollars worth of furniture, I don't exactly mind if I end up with a few spares.

(The longer desks - they come in 120, 140, and 200 cm lengths - recommend an extra leg in the middle, hence the odd number.)

6 And while not a Kindle, I think i may finally buy a refurbished Ipad, as long as MacofallTrades gets an "excellent" condition one in stock. Since my "excellent" condition MBP from them was basically brand new.

I just now need to decide which. I'm only using it right now to use one program at work, which needs Os14 or later, and I don't need a huge one. So hopefully they get a Mini4 or once of the 9.7 inch ones in.

I looked at Backmarket for them, and while they guarentee everything, their vetting of sellers seems like bs, as so many have bad reviews.

10 The SF robot force is not going to allowed to have firearms. On the other hand, "in extreme circumstances it is conceivable that use of a robot might be the best and only way of dealing with a terrorist or mass shooter." Apparently by strapping on a bunch of high explosives to the robot and sending it on a jihad or kamikaze mission depending on your cultural appropriation.

Unintended consequences? Seems that has been glossed over. And just like that life becomes the latest reboot of Robo Cop.

Usually when I try to overthrow a heavily armed government I leave my weapons an hour away too!

The Republicans need to hold hearings on questions such as, if this was such a horrible insurrection, why did the FBI not act on their many many many informants knowledge? Why didn't they have a presence on Jan 6 to prevent an insurrection (or did they and they were helping commit the insurrection) Why did Nancy and the DC mayor refuse to bring in the national guard or more capital police, like Trump asked for? Why did Nancy just happen to have a documentary crew with her that day, one that knew exactly where Ray Epps was in order to film him at the perfect time, with Nancy staring at him from a distance and pointing him out.

The Republicans still will have little power to get things done legislatively over the next 2 years, but they can sure uncover a ton of real sedition coming from Democrat leaders and FBI terrorist.

I've decided that during the Xmas break, I'll set the timer on the coffee. When I wake up, it'll be brewed. I'll pour a cup, go back to bed, and hop on the computer for a bit after Stirling is finished nuzzling me.

Amazon didn't exist in Australia until the end of 2017, and it took them a couple of years to build things up to the point where it was worthwhile. They set Prime pricing cheap to attract customers.

I expect they'll remedy that soon.

24 My 1st world problem this week. Doctor sends an order to imaging clinic which then sends it to insurance company to get approval for a routine scan. At two weeks I check with the imaging clinic if the approval was received. Nope. Wait a couple weeks, still nope.

Call insurance company and they claim they never got it and promptly hung up on me. Try again, same answer but get a promise they will call the imaging clinic to sort it out and call me back in two hours.

3 hours later I call the imaging clinic to see if I can get this going from that direction. I got tossed around to 3, 4, 5 people (I lost count) and finally get sent to a voice mail box. The VM message said they would return my call within, sit down, 2 hours.

3 hours later I was down at the doctor's office...

Nah, the Outback ain't quite that bad. (enjoyable series, btw).

A couple of weeks dry camping in the Outback would be good training for living in an inner city. Go slow and pay close attention to your surroundings. Have an exit or 3 planned. Trust nothing.

I'd have loved to pay a visit to the Outback when I was younger. But wife, kids, mortgage, limited vacation time all said 'nah bro'. Sigh. I settled for camping trips to Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona, Montana. Beautiful but desolate areas.

38 Somehow the New Mexico State University Aggies managed to get a wavier to move to the front of the line for one of few remaining bowl games with a 5-6 record. The deciding factor hinged on San Diego State canceling two days before the game here in Las Cruces because one of the players was riding a skateboard in traffic, ran a stop sign and got run over by a bus which killed him. The Aggies where unable to snag another opponent which left them one game short. It should be noted they got pushed ahead of Auburn. This is proof that miracles are real.

42 In other NMSU Aggie news a BB player and his pals got into a knock out brawl, on camera, during the NM football rivalry game with a UNM Student and his pals. We are talking near attempt murder type thing. The cops broke it up and nobody went to jail. Much later we find out the BB player was "disciplined."

Fast forward some weeks to the NM BB rivalry game at UNM. the UNM guy and his pals set up a honey pot thing, and the NMSU player sneaks out the hotel in the middle of the night to get laid. When he meets the girl the UNM guy and his pals jump, one pulls a gun out, NMSU guy takes off while pulling out ***his gun***. Two shoots ring out. UNM guy is dead and NMSU guy lands in hospital.

So far NMSU is finding lots of reasons not to discuss this matter. To date the NMSU guy is still loved like family by the coach and is cheering on his teammates from the hospital via cell phone calls.

Holy hell.

Sort of. Today, Friday, I am going to call a woman I met at, get ready, the local State Fair, that works for a different division of the insurance company. I got her contact info after I told her my story of how it took me 3 months and about 100 hours to get this insurance company to stop billing me a couple thousand dollars for last year's routine scan they approved and agreed to cover. I am going to find out if she has any magic up her sleeve.

As for the Doctor visit, they sent an email to the imaging clinic asking them to respond. I am not holding my breath.

85 Gavin Newsom's reparations committee will recommend handing out $223,200 per person to all descendants of slaves in California for 'housing discrimination' at a cost of $559BN - in nation's biggest restitution effort ever

I'm pretty sure the calculus is:
"Descendants of Slaves" = "Not White"

Though I am trying to parse the sentence and don't know if "in California" is w/r/t the descendants or the actual slaves. The latter is more interesting because if it includes colonial California, where indigenous people were enslaved, then that opens the door to Siberian-Americans and their descendants.

If it is the former, I can't think of a stronger magnet to attract grifting blacks from the other 49 states and possibly the globe.

Are we talking payments or lump sum payouts? It would really suck to be in one's 80s and be told the spoils will be paid out over twenty years.

If optional, like the lottery, I can expect a huge market for imported German cars, drugs, tattoos and jewelry. Also steep declines in labor participation rates.

Anyone believe $559BN? And will the two or three trillion that eventually has claims levied, how much of that will end up being financed by Yet Another Emergency that requires five or six trillion dollar Emergency Packages from Congress to be blindly delivered to blue States?

117 Reuben Hick, I heard that they were going to include property seizures as well. Does this reparation include all the people that were placed in the internment camps in CA also?

Now I can't just speculate/snark and need to read the article. [ reading ]

In short, its fucked up. Allegedly this is for housing discrimination from 1933-1977 (why those years?) and the compensation is to include "tuition". I'm thinking if you are fifty to ninety years old, tuition is not really a priority. The "housing grants" part is fascinating for similar reasons.

The kicker was the phrase "the task force has also identified other causes for reparations..." Translation: They are going to hand out money, they are now seeking racist/stereotype reasons to do so. And thus they drag out the racist trope: incarceration, unjust property seizures, devaluation of black businesses and health care.

Those last two are so subjective I fail to see how they can put a number on any of that. And shouldn't the "unjust" property seizures be handled in a court of law? Or is California going to deny justice to blacks and add another transgression that the taxpayers are to get stuck?

And the 1933-1977 time span. Can I see a list of politicians that who are still in office who can take responsibility for this? I mean, why should an H1B Asian couple who just immigrated in, working in Silicon Valley, be on the compensatory damages hook for actions performed by politicians long dead?

Where was the class-action lawsuit filed? Because it seems to me that this task-force has assumed guilt, didn't bother to assess any damages, let alone identify any specific chargeable crime and has moved directly to punitive damages, and has identified the perp, or at least has pinned down an innocent people to pay for another's sins.

166 Lots of articles in the DM today about seemingly healthy people dropping dead. Is this a new TikTok challenge?

All of the death and carnage is caused by Musk allowing the unvaxxed an unchallenged voice to spread their disinformation about people dying from the totally safe and effective against C19 Vax.

170 What do ya do here?

I take federal tax money, and I give it to states and tell them how to spend it on education

So, why can't the states raise their own school funding?

Look, I direct the funds!

You physically write checks?

No, the system automatically... I have people skills!

171 I'd start with all of them, and make them justify their existence.

If you laid out the Constitution in front of them and asked them to point to the department/agencies authorization within that document, you would have a much easier time.

Also would be good entertainment as they try to wrest the Good and Plenty Clause into some sort of mandating endorsement.

175 I think you're 100% right. That impulse has never not been around. Done properly, the idea that we all live together and should personally be interested in the success or failure of our nation, state, and culture, is noble and good.

I can honestly say, as long as I was "aware" enough to conceive of those kinds of abstracts - from early college or so - the only thing I've ever been interested in is putting as much space as possible between me and most everyone else. Economically, physically, politically, the whole bit.

It was a real eye opener, walking into a tube mill for the first time - with nothing more than a basic electrical education and a stack of books - and having folks ten and twenty years older absolutely cling to me like a life preserver. Just because I came up with a couple answers pretty quick, and they were not only too lazy and dumb to think for themselves ... but they had already "put in their time".

I can't imagine the circumstances that would actually push the public to get us the Hell out of Europe. Too many folks - many rock-ribbed Republicans - that can't stand the idea of having a big war with American equipment, if not American boys and girls, right in the middle of it. Good Grief, the only thing worse would be cancelling football season. You can't deny these folks their spectator sports, for cryin' out loud.

Posted by: rold at December 02, 2022 07:29 AM (7UqrO)

That's the access page for us feds.

You can't read comments there unless you have the log-in code. It displays the commenters real name and address under each comment on that page once you log in.

This entire place is a flytrap for insurrectionists. I personally work for the NSA, but many of the commenters are FBI or CIA as well.
