ADP: The Nation Lost a Full 100,000 Manufacturing Jobs In November

It picked up some jobs in leisure and hospitality, which this account points out usually represents people picking up 2nd jobs moonlighting as bartenders or the like.

Frog Capital
@FrogNews

The ADP jobs report came in below expectations. I read it as really bad. We lost 100k manufacturing jobs. The only increase was leisure and hospitality. This often means people picking up 2nd jobs..

Beege Wellborn writes:

Another batch of information the Fed takes into account when determining rate increases is the unemployment rate and the ratio of job openings to job seekers, which, to their minds, has been too high (running about 2-1). Their target rate is 1.2 job openings for every job seeker. A report that also dropped this morning -- the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey or JOLTS -- provides that snapshot for them. The JOLTS came in on a downward slide, as well, and has people raising warning flags about the Fed being overly aggressive. Job openings sank by 353,000 and "quits" (people who leave their job for a better opportunity) hit lows not seen in the past year, even as hiring dries up.

They had to, you don't want to wander the hellscape that would result by not having a single thing get shipped out or wind up on a shelf.

I get it, build your own railroad! But this was nation hostage taking for the benefit of a union. But it should be a warning to Congress. Certain businesses can obtain oligarchy status and when Unions get ahold of their operations - the country will suffer.

I think honestly that going back to the old original headline news format would serve them well but it was too facts-focused basic info to work well for CNN's all-opinion, all-bias format.

A number of years ago residents complained about trains stopping so workers on train could get coffee at local Dunkin donuts. Unfortunately this action blocked several or all of the 6 crossings in city. The workers were told to not stop anymore. In retaliation they complied with the letter of the law with 6 whistles before every crossing all day and night. One guy still does it. Given what just occurred I think we are going to see and hear a repeat of such actions, if not an outright strike

If you go down a list of US unions and when they were founded, the fighting bad working conditions doesn't seem terribly plausible. It seems more like they are created when a group of workers is ascendant or strong, much like professional associations.

Posted by: Elric Blade at December 01, 2022 06:09 PM (9Gwt7)

the problem is that the money expansion causing inflation has not been coming from the banks via fractional lending (which interest rates would slow)... its coming from the Fed printing Trillions to cover Fed Gov overspending.

And they won't admit it... so higher interest rates will INCREASE the debt, slow the economy... which will cause these idiots to print more money to give us a 'stimulus'... which will cause more inflation.

Can't fix the problem when you won't admit you ARE the problem.

306 How much PTO does the average rail employee get? I'm sure it's more than one day a year.

Its complicated. Typically a locomotive engineer or conductor might be put on a 8/3 schedule (work eight, take three off) during those days on call, they have typically within two hours to report to work once they receive the call to do train things. Like a lot of work, sometimes the going is easy, other times its back to back shifts and little down time.

Working a Class 1 railroad is hard on work/life balance but the compensation is good. For these whiners who want more "life" they should take the pay cut and work a regional line.

When the Enemedia talks about the "average rail worker", it is a clue they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

309 Supreme Court leaves student loan injunction in place and will hear case in February.
Temporary Injunctions are allowed to stand when the risk of harm to the plaintiff outweighs the harm to the defendant, the plaintiff is likely to prevail on the merits, the plaintiff is likely to suffer irreplaceable injury if the stay is lifted, and my guess is the balancing of the equities analysis has been done below which would be a analysis of the public interest.

So on first blush, if Brandon's crew doesn't articulate any novel persuasive arguments that student loan deal is dead dead dead

Posted by: torabora at December 01, 2022 06:24 PM (Y274z)

310 288: well yes, you violated a contract provision, maybe. Which you can’t do UNLESS the union did not provide the labor required for the job. That is the deal, the company provides the work, you, union, provide the labor. Once the ability to get that union labor is exhausted, for that moment, they give up their right to the work. They do it enough, they give up the right to the work in perpetuity. Conversely, you can’t just give them non-union work without understanding you just gave up work to the union. Managers really struggled with this concept, there is their work and my work but never OUR work.

I would have been a little upset if you said get bent in a grievance meeting because it would have resulted in my having to respond to a labor charge and the NLRB is a pain in the patoot. 😀
