The Morning Report — 11/29/22

brintonfreakthief.jpg

Good morning, kids. Tuesday and as the unrest in China continues – leading to at least the downfall of Xi if not the downfall of the Chinese Communist Party, please God – I make this statement to every leftist, Democrat, Democrat-leftist in the wake of recent headlines over there (and here):

This is why we have the Second Amendment.

“The idea we still allow semi-automatic weapons to be purchased is sick,” Joe Biden argued on Thanksgiving. “It has no socially redeeming value. Zero. None. Not a single solitary rationale for it except profit for the gun manufacturers.”

Need it really be pointed out that it is perfectly within our rights to purchase products devoid of all socially redemptive value? Certainly, it is not the state’s business to determine what we “need.” That said, semi-automatic weapons happen to have an obvious redeeming value and there is a strong rationale for owning them. Semi-auto weapons are easy to use, and their effectiveness and reliability bolster the ability of people to protect themselves, their families, their property, and their community from criminality and, should it descend into tyranny, the government. Gun bans are autocratic and unconstitutional, and, thankfully, also largely unfeasible. . .

. . . Biden, who often imparts dreadful, sometimes illegal, advice on gun ownership, also has a long history of saying completely inane, insane, and historically illiterate things about firearms —whether cringingly noting that deer don’t wear “Kevlar” or claiming cannons were banned during the Revolutionary era as a way to argue that the Second Amendment “like all other rights, is not absolute.”

On the latter, Biden often (fittingly) cites one of the most egregious violations of the First Amendment, Schenck v. United States, which allowed the Woodrow Wilson administration to throw socialists into prison for speech crimes, to make his point. And perhaps that speaks to the crucial distinction at the heart of so many of our debates. Biden, and thus the contemporary left, seems to be under the impression that it’s the state that “allows” us to buy semi-automatic firearms or “allows” us to say certain things. But we don’t need their permission.

Emphasis mine. David Harsanyi's statement is correct, at least in theory. Thanks to the 100+ year counter-American revolution culminating, our society and government has effectively been overthrown. The problem for those in power who seek to maintain it permanently are the hundreds of millions of legally owned firearms and exponentially more rounds of ammunition in the hands of those they seek to rule. But I digress.

The statement attributed to Louis XIV, King of France and Navarre, "L'État, c'est moi," is quite probably the definition of virtually every form of government in human history until the American Revolution, which created the notion of government "Of the people, by the people and for the people." But alas, as Ben Franklin feared, we just couldn't keep it. Human history is shaped by human nature. Sadly the latter is much more powerful than ethics, morality, "the better angels of our nature," if not the belief in answering to a higher power when our time is up. The will to power in the form of Marxist-Leninism has poisoned the minds of at least three generations of Americans, and so where anything goes, soon everything goes (Here's an interesting piece related to that statement, to which I say, now do the other 150 million who think like this kid).

So, if you want to see the future of America maybe 10 years from now if not sooner than that, look at what's going on in China that has led to even a people where respect for authority is burned into their cultural DNA calling for the overthrow of their leaders. This is not about COVID lockdowns. It is a pre-revolutionary condition we are witnessing there. Unrest has happened several times over the last 30-odd years but has always been quashed. As I postulated yesterday, the odds are long that the scattered flames here and there are not snuffed out before converging into an actual firestorm. And even then, what rises from the ashes should that eventuality occur is even more of a mystery.

Psaki-psircling back to the future of America, I don't even have to link to the news from China. Look what the hell is going on in Holland:

The Dutch government is planning to buy and close down up to 3,000 farms near environmentally sensitive areas to be in compliance with EU environmental rules.

It comes after farmer protests erupted this summer following a government plan to reduce nitrogen emissions by 50% by 2030, The New York Times reported. Farmers believe the measure unfairly targeted the agricultural sector, which is responsible for the largest portion of nitrogen emissions in the Netherlands, the Times added.

The government will conduct a “compulsory purchase” of large nitrogen emitters as part of a voluntary, one-time offer, announced Nitrogen Minister Christianne van der Wal, Bloomberg reported. Farmers will be offered a deal “well over” the value of the farm, according to the government plan. She asserted “there is no better offer coming” in a Friday meeting with MPs.

Wait: a “compulsory purchase” of large nitrogen emitters as part of a voluntary, one-time offer. Substitute Nitrogen Minister Christianne van der Wal with Don Vito Corleone and you get the same thing. Ditto the notion of so-called "buyback" plans for gun owners. The government can't buy back something that it never owned in the first place, but that's just word games. Governments don't play word games. They mean business, as we have seen all over the world during the engineered panic-demic. And the worst of the worst were from the anglo-sphere including right here in the good old US of A.

[So-called quote unquote "president"] Joe Biden called on Congress Monday to pass a law mandating that railroad workers and companies accept a [junta]-brokered deal in a bid to prevent a devastating strike before a Dec. 9 deadline.

A strike would lead to nearly 765,000 Americans losing their jobs within two weeks of it first going into effect, and have impacts across the American economy, Biden said in a statement. Eight of the 12 major rail unions have already ratified the agreement — which was initially negotiated by the [junta] in September — but the remaining four took issue with paid sick leave policies, rejecting the agreement despite a historic 24% raise from 2020 to 2024, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

“As a proud pro-labor [so-called quote unquote "president"], I am reluctant to override the ratification procedures and the views of those who voted against the agreement,” said Biden. “But in this case – where the economic impact of a shutdown would hurt millions of other working people and families – I believe Congress must use its powers to adopt this deal.”

What powers are that, Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants? The gall to even fret about the economy when the intentional policies that took us from energy independence and the greatest boom in history under Trump to putting us on the road to collapse is just blood-boiling. I'm not going to go into the constitutionality or legality of Congress passing laws like this. I seem to recall a rail strike during the Korean War that was averted by Harry Truman either via executive order or an emergency piece of legislation. But that was a national emergency where we were in a shooting war.

Here's an idea. Abolish the unions (ideally all government sector ones first, then go for the friggin' SEIU). Hell, with ESG and DIE all the rage, you're well on the way to hitting the Hitler/Stalin/Mao trifecta if you can grab all our guns.

And with that, the Psaki-psircle is complete. Funny how as the people in China and Iran are desperate enough to take on governments that have zero compunction to kill and kill massively, it is our own country that is devolving rapidly in that direction. The only difference being a sizable chunk of our own people are either cheering it on or are completely oblivious to it.

That de-programming of our youth can't come fast enough.

18 Lifesite News:
During testimony before the Public Order Emergency Commission last Thursday, it was revealed that one Canadian bank executive suggested Freedom Convoy protesters could be labeled as “terrorists” to allow for a quick freezing of their funds, while another banker took the opposite position and cautioned against politicizing banks.

We won't find out which bank's CEO said what, I imagine because they fear there would be a huge shift of funds to the latter bank (whose CEO also advised at the time that the Canadian govt. lift the covid lockdowns). But I also don't doubt there would be some funds shifting to the commie bank, probably from the ruling class' accounts.

Not really. Conditions for those workers were already awful at the Foxconn plant that makes Iphones. Many of the workers there have committed suicide--some in a very messy way over the years. Now, being forced more or less to live at the factory and comply with very strict zero covid rules with little or no care plus a paltry insulting 50-60 dollar 'bonus', plus problems with food delivery and medical care broke them.

We aren't that desperate yet. Be interesting to see how the Dutch farmers react to the voluntary mandatory buyout of their farms. They have already registered their displeasure and I think that it will get much worse this time.

89 I'm not going to go into the constitutionality or legality of Congress passing laws like this. I seem to recall a rail strike during the Korean War that was averted by Harry Truman either via executive order or an emergency piece of legislation. But that was a national emergency where we were in a shooting war.

Its a bit of a problem. People have a right to negotiate contracts. By unionizing, it conflates an individual right in with corporations and thus saying corporations have the same rights as individuals.

its also compounded because government has been torturing We The People in a myriad of ways, and instead of attacking the real problem of inflation, regulation and other punishments for existing, the union selfishly claims that they shouldn't have to suffer the indignities of the travails that they clamored and literally voted for.

Basically, the workers are evil, selfish, greedy and don't care if they callously hurt their neighbor and cause economic ruin - the same mentality as the politicians they elect.

So it's "voluntary" which is why - so they say, anyway - they will offer top dollar for the property.

So what happens if they don't get enough takers, and not enough people want to sell their farms to the state so the state can turn around and sell the land to medium-density housing developers (just a guess) in which the politicians and handlers have an interest?* At what point does "voluntary" become "compulsory?" For whom will it be compulsory? Perhaps the neighbors of the guys who sold, so the state and developers can get larger, uninterrupted tracts?

* Of course, this also invites people to question that if the offers are truly above-market - that is, a very compelling amount of money - why doesn't the final end purchaser (my guess is a developer) just cut the check directly instead of laundering it through government buddies...

Dutch farming techniques turned parts of Europe into a breadbasket for a continent, and were so effective in Britain that efficiency skyrocketed to the point that the peasantry sort of had nothing to do and ended up generally dispossessed. This caused a ton of problems but one of the outcomes, eventually, was an industrial revolution. You can trace the implementation of Dutch farming to the closure of the commons and migration of peasants.

But there are better ways now. Centralized way. Coercive ways. In other words, the ways of all enlightened people!

Harry Truman tried to act to end the steel strike and Scotus shut him down. The Taft Hartlety Act has several tools that the administration could do but they risk pissing off their labor friends. In issues of national importance, the administration can go to court to issue an injunction to stop the strike for example.

Woodrow Wilson actually had railroads nationalized during WWI via congressional act. He broke the IWW rail strike by threatening to draft every rail worker into the military which would subject them to military justice for disobeying an order from the prezzie.

My money is on hiccup. Xi just got crowned emperor and has eliminated his internal competition. The time for a coup was probably back during the spring, not now. And if it isn't a coup (and I doubt it is, since not even Xi's enemies would be reckless enough to play with revolutionary fire), then it could be actual broad-spectrum resentment and frustration.

Zero-COVID has been a disaster and everyone knows it. But Xi had to hold the line on it through the CCP Congress last month, and he did. Don't you find it odd that there was suddenly a brand-new oral vaccine that can be easily distributed that became available shortly after the Congress? That's his way out. It can work or not - hell, it can be an actual vaccine or just an empty aerosol - and solve the problem. The state provided the cure (and that illness you have is just a cold) and now you can go back to work. In fact, you'd better - and it had better be in a factory - or your commerce pass (that used to be a health pass) will turn red.

Craft unions were always a bit different politically than industrial unions and railroad unions are some of the oldest labor organizations along with the craft unions. Old time craft unions want their paycheck and could care less about broader political issues--industrial unions run on mass membership. Ultimately, as in airline strikes, etc., the government has the power if a union defies a court injunction to seek decertification of a union plus seizure of any strike funds. That is where it gets politically sticky. Biden would prefer to hand this off to Congress like the student loan forgiveness fiasco.

Absolutely. I always come back to Ceausescu for an example of just how quickly that kind of thing can turn and anything is possible.

I just doubt that it's now. Xi was *just* established as unquestioned ruler of all he surveys and his internal opposition within the Party complex there is essentially gone. If there's to be a major revolutionary action, the people are going it alone - and Xi has every possible incentive to crush it by any means necessary. The easiest way is to back off of "Zero-COVID." Good progs who's support they've had since day zero might be questioning them, too. What if those good progs and "worried mom" types are saying, in essence, "listen here, I was - and am - happy with you running prog indoctrination camps under the cover of public education, but this dick-chopping is going too far and you'd better dial it back or I'll find someone who will?"

192 I don't think China will collapse. But if it does? How cool will that be?

Ours has become a Chinese client state. Our legislators are bought off; many, particularly in CA, it seems, are assigned handlers. Our President and his family are notably corrupted by Beijing. Even under Trump, his JCOS were taking their orders from them.

Our ruling class was always ideologically loyal to Moscow, but the USSR didn't have nearly as much direct influence, and our government didn't have nearly as much power to execute its agenda as they now do for China.

If the CCP were to topple, our Uniparty will be adrift and rudderless. It will introduce a chaotic situation. A ripe opportunity for a much-needed regime change.

It's a thin hope.

216 Heck, Roosevelt outlawing gold as money was only "temporary", as was the wartime expedient of income witholding for tax payments. Prior to that individuals paid quarterly, similar to businesses.

Roosevelt got a compliant Congress to ratify his emergency action on gold via legislation (1934 Gold Reserve Act). Ditto on Income Tax Witholding. The Current Tax Payment Act of 1943. As a curious sidenote, Milton Friedman worked as an economist for the Treasury during that time and it led to his interest in the study of money.

It is an evolving problem here, but I suspect it will manifest quite differently. The core problem - "my generation has it worse than my parents' generation" - is present, but the degree is wildly different. It will still breed resentment, but it won't result in abject poverty instead of comparative riches. That's a different dynamic than in Red China, where a backslide could well mean subsistence-level peasant farming instead of what the glittering economy they expected.

I believe that's largely what I articulated. Every people, irrespective of nation has an innate desire to be free. We all share that aspiration, and yet our government and many institutions do not. That's because they are corrupt, and consider their parochial desires above the will of the collective people. Morality, what is right, just or in the interest of liberty largely is not a consideration they dwell on- other then how to justify its subversion for their own ends.

Kanye brought acquaintances to the meeting. Everyone getting their panties in a bunch because security didn't do a facial rec of all comers at the gate and kick them out is silly and supports the left's bashing of every move the man makes.

That is overly broad. Throughout the centuries, it is clearly demonstrable that a lot of people don't really care who is in charge but that they have enough to eat, some means of property, and can run their families as they wish. Romans, for example, sold themselves and their families into slavery in order to not have to feed themselves and to have shelter. Adams formulation of thirds regarding the Revolution is another example.

Those though with the greatest iq and ability will feel stifled in such a world and for them the fight for personal autonomy from the ptb is important. Which is where the competition for position in every society comes from.

330 Estimates are like opinions, everyone has one and figuring the correct one is often a random walk. Most systems are not linear which makes extrapolation difficult into the future beyond a year or so.

I was trying to be conservative on the opinion. There is a certain level of cost in just keeping a railroad in place, regardless if the rail is seeing more or less traffic.

The weather tears apart rail, tree growth, crossing maintenance, rotting ties, the cost of borrowing money, and several more decades (at least) of pension.

In a declining market, does a company buy more rail cars and locomotives or just keep the current rolling stock in semi-operable condition?

With reduced traffic, the costs per rail car go up and that must be passed on to customer, so it creates a death spiral. It may also include closing down formerly profitable routes.

it is nothing but decay - sort of like what is happening to the thermal energy industry.

Garland later said, "I was grateful my voice didn't come from a different part of my anatomy."

I don't necessarily disagree there may always be a segment of some societies who will sell their freedom for a crust of bread and roof over their heads. But that's more likely to be prevalent in ancient societies with class structures, then in post enlightenment or especially contemporary societies where self sufficiency and perhaps status can be attained by the exercise of free will and individual liberty in a democratic society. Nobody "needs" government to achieve anything in their personal lives. In fact it's mostly a hindrance to the individual and their aspirations. That's clearly laid out in our Declaration, Constitution and The Bill of Rights. It's why we have that structure- and conversely why some are trying to subvert it. Because in the end it provides power to the citizens, not the government.

Guilt by association is a classic smear trick by informants and intel for the PTB which then allows surveillance to be used. Ghislaine Maxwell, for example, used to deliberately seek out famous people in order to have her picture taken with them. I largely don't disagree that is the aim of elites. We see it every day. Destroy the family, individual liberty, and societal mores by crushing people with government and gaining support for their government by dividing the people along political lines. Building intransigence and division among the people allows any ever increasing intrusion on the rights and liberties which undergird a society. But I also believe that an enlightenment among the people, an awareness that the aim is to divide an conquer us, along with the auspices of our Constitution, can be a compelling force for unity and turning that around.

Marcus, politics is the art of the possible and politics simply cannot fix what ails society. It can make it worse like the whole trans issue, but not fix it. In a similar way, our Constitution as described in the Federalist papers is essentially dead. Bagehot (the original guy not the columnist) likewise described how the common beliefs of the 1860's Britons about how their government worked under their unwritten constitution were stuck in the past. Instead of parliamentary supremacy, Bagehot found it was cabinet supremacy that now had conquered king and parliament members. Now, if writing today, he would probably say that the PM and his advisors along with only two or three other ministers actually run the country.

In the US, essentially, the executive branch bureaucracy runs the country and we have an elected emperor over several nations within the borders of the US and an informal trading empire across the globe.

Marcus, I have been engaged in politics for federal, state, and local issues for decades. But, since 2006, I realized that national politics has increasingly become fossilized and that bureaucracies including those of the military and law enforcement have run amuck.
So, I actively work at the state or local politics level anymore because essentially the Uniparty and national GOP simply cannot reform itself to be the people's champions to prevent the coming financial collapse of the US fisc. So, like Voltaire's Candide, I simply till my own garden and prepare for the worst as best I can.

A lot of people in the west have a lot to lose. When you are free and wealthy, the threat of losing that wealth/freedom is going to keep a lot of people off the streets. When you are poor and/or unfree you might as well riot, you have nothing to lose and a shot at gaining something. So if they continue to crash the economy, destroy everyone's wealth, and make us servants of the state confiscating wealth by the twin stones of inflation and taxation, kaboom. That'll flip the switch here. So the FTX thing is going to continue to have long term effects on the market - which a lot of people have invested their retirements in general - and the e-commerce type firms, are going to get pantzed. They are all over valued, leveraged to the Nth degree. Its going be be a rolling slide through this month, and going to accelerate into a spiral of doubt/fear/bad news next year.
