Also CNN: Daylight savings time is racist, causes more harm to Persons of Color.

CNN published a recent article arguing that Daylight Savings Time disproportionately affects people of color because of structural racism.

CNN health reporter Jacqueline Howard penned an article titled: "Daylight Saving Time sheds light on lack of sleep's disproportionate impact in communities of color."

The article begins, "As the United States rolled back the clocks one hour this month to observe the end of Daylight Saving Time, many people got a bit more sleep than usual -- but some not as much as others."

...

Howard writes that "some sleep researchers worry about the potential effects that continuing to change standard time twice each year may have on sleep health inequities."

Howard included a quote from Chandra Jackson -- a researcher and epidemiologist with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

"Poor sleep is associated with a host of poor health outcomes, including obesity, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and certain cancers, including of the breast and colon," said Jackson -- who has been studying racial and ethnic disparities in sleep. "Many of these health outcomes are more prevalent in the black population."

Take a deep breath before reading this:

Dr. Chandra L. Jackson is an Earl Stadtman Tenure-Track Investigator who leads the Social and Environmental Determinants of Health Equity group in the Epidemiology Branch of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences with a joint appointment in the intramural program of the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities.

In case you had any doubt: When new CNN president Chris Licht was asked about the big scary threat that CNN would become "centrist," he responded: "Bullsh*t."

To hear Chris tell it, a pure, reliable relaying of information doesn't jive with modern times. These days, you've got to have some razzmatazz. In fact, he seems downright offended by the idea that CNN would be a news organization:

"One of the biggest misconceptions about my vision is that I want to be vanilla, that I want to be centrist."

His response to such an idea:

"That is bull***t."

It doesn't fly in 2022:

"You have to be compelling. You have to have edge."

"Edge" = Jake Tapper's snarky leftwing chyrons and Don LeMon sticking his ball-stinking fingers under your nose.

A "junior research fellow" at Cambridge University gave a sermon in which he asserted that, because Christ's side was pierced by a spear and the subsequent wound could be seen by a sicko as vagina-like, Christ was effectively a transsexual in his moment of Redeeming.

As Chris Rock once said: I'm just saying, I understand.

Scientists have developed a non-hormonal form of birth control for men. The new product is tentatively called The Whole Package Garrett Brings to the Table.

A team of researchers at a company called Contraline has developed a new kind of male contraceptive. Instead of using hormones to disrupt sperm production, the new technique involves placing a hydrogel called ADAM into the vas deferens to prevent sperm from making its way to the urethra. The new technique is not yet available for men seeking an alternative way to prevent pregnancy, however--it is currently undergoing a clinical trial in Australia.

For many years, medical researchers have been looking for an easy and inexpensive alternative way for men to prevent impregnating sexual partners. Current options include use of condoms and vasectomy. The first option is not considered foolproof and the second option is quite often permanent. Hormone-based pills are prescribed to prevent production of sperm but have not proven to be popular due to side effects.

In this new effort, the researchers have taken a completely new approach that involves making a small incision in the abdomen and injecting a small amount of hydrogel into each of the vas deferens, the short tubes that convey sperm. This creates a dam of sorts, preventing the flow of sperm from the vas deferens into the urethra. Recovery from the procedure is expected to be nearly identical to a vasectomy.

The new stealth bomber, the B-21 Raider, will be unveiled Friday.

The B-21 is different from other classified military programs in that its existence is openly acknowledged. Over the years, top U.S. Air Force officials have given crumbs of information about the plane. But aside from some benign conceptual images, relatively little is known about it.

And while the first plane will be shown to the public on Friday, no one should expect many more details. The Air Force has kept much of the effort a secret so that China, Russia, and others are not able to copy the B-21 design or come up with ways to shoot it down. The plane has been designed with a new generation of stealth technology to evade radar detection. It eventually will be able to carry nuclear or conventional bombs and fly with or without pilots.

But beyond that, it's mostly a mystery. Northrop executives said the project's classified status prevents them from describing the B-21 assembly line in Palmdale, California, where the roll-out will take place.

The plane to be unveiled on Friday is expected to fly for the first time next year, and five other aircraft are in various stages of assembly. Air Force leaders say the service plans to buy at least 100 of the bombers. The Pentagon's 2023 budget request shows the Air Force plans to spend $19.1 billion on B-21 aircraft between fiscal 2023 and 2027, but the Air Force did not disclose how many aircraft that money will buy.

Relatedly, one day passenger aircraft might also take the form of blended-wing aircraft, like the B-2 or B-21.

Georgia homeowner returns fire on four intruders attempting to invade his home, killing one, wounding three others. Police called the shootings justified and "pretty sweet."

For years, Adam Schiff has insisted that congressional subpoenas were absolute holy writ and to refuse them was to invite criminal prosecution. Steve Bannon, for example, just got prosecuted for refusing to testify in front of the J6 Committee. I think he was sentenced to six months in prison.

But now that he and his Democrat pals will be receiving them, he says that compliance with congressional subpoenas is optional.

Bonchie:

What makes this all the more hypocritical is that Schiff helped take down Steve Bannon on "contempt of Congress" charges in the months prior. In fact, the California congressman was so hyped up that he put out a video on his website bragging about his role in the process. In it, while speaking with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow (because who else?), Schiff called Bannon's indictment for ignoring the House subpoena a "powerful message."

That respect for the rule of law has suddenly disappeared, and we all know why. Because Schiff is a ridiculous hack who had no business ever being near power. His notoriety has been completely propped up by baseless investigations of his political opponents, but when the shoe is on the other foot, he wants to pretend they aren't legitimate.

CNN's Dan Bash, of course, failed to ask him about this stunning reversal.

A couple of weeks ago, Alah Derschowitz observed that the Supreme Court -- lead by Roberts -- sure isn't behaving as if it wants to discover who the leaker of the Dobbs draft decision is.

"I don't think that the Supreme Court is devoting the right resources to this," Dershowitz told the "Just the News, Not Noise" television show late last week. "They have to give people immunity. They have to get warrants for their laptops and for their cell phones. And they have to do the kind of investigation that produces results."

The famed attorney said he does not think the court's marshal's office has the resources to solve the leak, a point he first raised in a recent Wall Street Journal opinion article.

"Having the marshal's office do the investigation is unlikely to produce a result," he said. "... Maybe some of the justices don't want to solve this issue. Maybe they don't want to know that it was a law clerk. Maybe they'll think it'll cause further divisiveness."

The Marshal's office probably can grant immunity. And they can ask for the SCOTUS to sign warrants.

SCOTUS has zero criminal prosecuting ability. They are chartered to resolve constitutional questions, not criminal cases. Everything that SCOTUS touches is post criminal/trial, they have zero criminal jurisdiction. Plus there was no crime committed with the leak. No Federal criminal code was broken in leaking that decision. It's purely an administrative investigation with no possibility of criminal prosecution.

Things never change until they do. The people in China who live in an actual communist dictatorship are taking to the streets in huge numbers because they have had enough. That was never going to happen either.

At some point people here will do the same. Hard to know what the spark will be, maybe it will be Musk doing as he promised and releasing Twitter files about the company's partnering with the left to rig elections or maybe it will just be the blatant corruption in places like AZ and PA but that which can't go on forever, won't.

240 when people talk about traveling to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small, but barely anyone in the present really thinks that they can radically change the future by doing something small.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at November 28, 2022 07:26 PM (cP/Ah)

It's a neat thought but it relies on purely on conflation.

In the first example people are basically worried about fucking up a math equation that lead to some coincidence by changing a single value. Basically they're trying not to destroy something, which we all know is very easy to do.

So when we speak of "changing" the future, yes you can totally fuck things up by doing something "small", like accidentally breaking a knob off of some valve. OTOH it's much harder to accomplish anything particularly wonderous by doing "something small".

That said, living with kindness and love and letting *that* guide you is generally a good bet. And it makes for a far better philosophy than "small".

Its a pretty notable theme in the Psalms. We are told to love our enemies, pray for our persecutors, and do good to those who treat us ill. We are told to forgive as in Christ God forgave us. Its a tough road to walk, when faced with such horrors. But its what sets us apart: Love.

For decades I'd assumed it would be when they came door-to-door for the guns. Because I could never imagine that our betters would:

(1) initiate a 5-year soft coup against -- and eventually promise to and then proceed to steal a Presidential (and other) election(s) overtly in broad daylight -- and brag about it (with a "conservative" Supreme Court holding that U.S. States have "No Standing" to sue); or

(2) go so far as to overtly censor & cancel opponents, imprison political prisoners, and intentionally pursue policies to bankrupt, freeze, & starve their own citizenry -- along with Western Europe -- on orders from their betters in Davos.

So my bet now is on #2 being the likely catalyst ... "when you've got nothing, you've got nothing to lose."

There was an SF story "Try and Change the Past" where souls were taken up as soldiers in a alt-history war. Part of the recruitment was to show you your death, and this dude suicided with a bullet over debts just before he came into a bunch of money. So he decides to save himself. After several retries as he keeps on reloading the gun and shooting himself and other false starts he finally manages to get rid of the bullets. So his body goes to the patio door, opens it up and a meteor goes right into his head where he wanted to fire the bullet.

281 Every abortion has the potential to change the world , whether for good or bad so I think one simple action can have a lot of effect.

Maybe, its very hard to know or tell what effect an action has on the future, since we don't have an alternate time line to know how it would have otherwise gone. Its like taking zinc to fight off colds: did it work or did you just get mild colds this year? How can you know?

My suspicion is that small things done change things around us more than grand gestures, like Giuliani's "broken windows" law enforcement theory. That cleaning up your neighborhood helps a lot more than getting climate change legislation passed. That cleaning your room matters more than protesting at the capitol building.

As for changing the future, I don't think that's how it works. We certainly cannot change the past. I think its all written down in God's journal, and whatever we do, things turn out the way they are ordained to.

Or - in another translation - "President Trump was wrong to give a Hispanic antisemitic, a black power rapper and a gay activist a seat at the table and I think he should apologize for it." - I'm thinking if the press was characterizing this meeting this way, a weak, non-man like Mike Pence would probably play along and suggest its fine. He's essentially the Kirby of GOP politics.

291 Watching the Chinese visit Boeing is funny. They show up every so often because they buy lots of airliners. They ALWAYS jump the guide ropes to go walk around the factory floor. Then when the boeing guys round them up, the Chinese dudes go over to their van and change shoes, bagging up the ones they were wearing.
