The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Like any curious human being, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I really want to be there for this because there’s no way anybody’s gonna believe this. I can’t even believe it.”
Firefighter Gunnar Romatz

Quote II

“Every few weeks I get a call from a doctor in the Boston area – a different doctor every time – about a case they can’t solve,” Andrej Spec, Associate Professor of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis

Quote III

“But I would certainly view my obligation, the administration’s obligation to follow the law and the fact that they have disrespected the law is not a precedent I would hope that would be broadly followed. We’ll have to look at the legitimacy or lack of legitimacy of what they do.” Rep. Adam Schiff (Commie-CA)

In a quiet little suburb located in New Jersey there is a certain man who is enjoying French Toast.

NATIONAL FRENCH TOAST DAY

Each year on November 28th, people across the United States enjoy National French Toast Day. Also known as eggy bread or omelet bread, it makes a great breakfast for guests or part of a brunch.

Secretly he slathers it with salted butter and pure WI Maple Syrup.

I've never lost a child of mine to death let alone suicide. I can't even imagine the grief this family is facing. However, is Stanford University responsible for a bright adult's death? I think there is more to the story than is being reported.

The parents of Katie Meyer have filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Stanford University months after the 22-year-old soccer captain was found dead in her dorm room.

The complaint, filed Wednesday in Santa Clara County Superior Court, names several university administrators and alleges that a disciplinary letter sent to Meyers on Feb. 28 was a form of “institutional bullying” and caused distress that “impulsively led her to suicide” that night.

“The actions that led to the death of Katie Meyer began and ended with Stanford University,” the lawsuit claimed.

Stanford’s Office of Community Standards sent Meyer the formal disciplinary charges by email. The five-page letter addressed an August 2021 incident in which she allegedly spilled coffee on a football player while riding her bike.

Meyer believed that he had sexually assaulted a freshman teammate of hers who was a minor at the time.

Though the incident was reported to the university last year, the football player faced no disciplinary actions, the suit claimed, and wasn’t dismissed from the team.

Instead, Meyer received a letter after hours and on the last day disciplinary charges could be brought. It outlined her “potential removal” from the university while placing a hold on her degree three months shy of graduation.

That night, she responded with an email that expressed how “shocked and distraught” she was.

The suit further claimed that the university failed to immediately follow up with a wellness check.

Stanford spokesperson Dee Mostofi disagreed that the university bore any responsibility for Meyer’s suicide.

“The Stanford community continues to grieve Katie’s tragic death,” Mostofi wrote in a statement, “and we sympathize with her family for the unimaginable pain that Katie’s passing has caused them.”

Always unload your shotgun around your clumsy dog. Man's best friend blows him away.

A new dad tragically died after he was accidentally shot by his own dog during a hunting excursion in Turkey over Thanksgiving weekend.

The freak accident occurred while Ozgur Gevrekoglu, 32, was pursuing game with his pals on the Kizlan Plateau in Samsun Province last weekend, Newsflash reported.

While the expedition went off without a hitch, disaster struck while the hunter was packing up to leave.

Gevrekoglu was reportedly putting his pet dog in the trunk of the car, when its paw inadvertently touched the trigger of the still-loaded shotgun, causing the weapon to discharge into the sportsman at close range.

Parents Slammed for Letting Toddler Climb and Jump on Passengers Seat in Viral TikTok

Flying is stressful enough, especially during the holiday rush when folks are heading all over the world in order to see their loved ones, go back home from school, or just to give themselves a bit of a break from work when they're given days off.

It's no secret that booking during this time of the year can be absolutely bonkers: folks are vying for seats on aircraft to highly-trafficked destinations, meaning that airports, and airplanes, are packed.

Nothing to indicate a tragic auto accident or suicide, was it the Kung Flu prick which did him in?

The finance world has been rocked by the sudden and unexpected death of a young crypto founder at the age of just 30.

Tiantian Kullander, the co-founder of Hong Kong-based digital asset company Amber Group, died in his sleep on November 23, with the news confirmed on the company’s website “with the deepest sadness and a heavy heart”.

Kullander, known affectionately as “TT,” launched Amber in 2017 with a group of finance insiders, including former Goldman Sachs Group and Morgan Stanley workers.

Before that, he worked as a trader at both finance giants, and in 2019 earned a coveted spot on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, which recognizes the most talented emerging entrepreneurs and leaders.

Another strange death. Incapacitated pilot causes flight to return. And then passes away. Kung Flu prick?

An American Airlines flight was forced to return to its take-off location after the aircraft’s pilot suffered a medical emergency in-flight.

“We need to return. Captain is incapacitated,” the aircraft’s copilot told air traffic control.

American Eagle Flight 3556 had previously departed from Chicago O’Hare Airport on Saturday night. The flight was originally bound for Columbus, Ohio, according to CNBC.

It is always fun to post these type of stories in The ONT. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes.

The resident of a home in DeKalb County, Georgia, opened fire on four alleged robbery suspects, killing one and wounding three, around 5 p.m. Friday.

The Associated Press reports that one of the four suspects allegedly had a gun and “exchanged gunfire” with the resident.

FOX 5 notes that police arrived on scene and found three wounded individuals outside the home. Those individuals were “23-year-old Jacqueze Grier, 18-year-old Taneaious McCune and a 15-year-old boy.”

Lindell accused the RNC of collecting donor cash but not investigating baseless claims of voter fraud.

There will be a lot of catching up to do. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

42 Willowed comment in the category of domesticated turkey reproduction to follow:

These domesticated turkey farmers have a very specific job to do.
First of all, you get a bunch of male turkeys in a pen.
Then you have to slowly gain their confidence. Become their friend.
When you first enter the pen, they will all panic in all directions. Then you befriend just one. You bring him to your lap. You place some Saran Wrap on his sternum. You gently stroke on his sternum. Eventually the male turkey will eject his essence. This is what you put in to the vial to inject in the female.
The curious thing is, what starts as distrust with the male turkeys all running in panic away from you, gets replaced by them all coming to greet you as you enter the pen.

But he won't even consider it could be from that. And i can't blame him, since there's not a lot one can do to go about getting rid of gene therapy gone wrong.

Though the incident was reported to the university last year, the football player faced no disciplinary actions, the suit claimed, and wasn’t dismissed from the team."

So much here to unpack. Certainly a tragedy that the girl is dead but what really went on? She took it upon herself to declare the ball player guilty of assault without, seemingly, proof other than the word of the other woman. Did she assault the ball player by dumping coffee on him? And Stanford acts as institutions act - uncaring and protecting someone, or something that the article doesn't investigate or delve into. Sure, the footballer may have been the bad guy, but how would we know?

What a mess and loads of facts being buried.

96 The cabin on the swale overlooking the beach was dry, snug and warm against the winter gales that sheared the tops of the waves into a frozen, piercing spray.

Inside, a lone Moron prepared a secret, solitary feast. One he had quietly anticipated for weeks, nay months. Laying in supplies, bought from many different stores, many towns away. Always, wearing a different look, different attire, striving to be forgotten before the cashier began to ring up the next shopper in line.

Between the crashing of the waves and the howls of the wind, this lone Moron didn't hear the Team of four swimmers quietly raise their heads from the foam of the retreating waves, scanning the beach to ensure they were still in the clear. They were, and towards the cabin they crept. Forming their stack, the command was given, the door exploded inward with a damning crash.

And Meal Team Six had caught their culprit, CBD, red-handed, the half-eaten plate of French Toast, butter and Maple Syrup it's own declaration of shame and guilt. Most mostly, of delicious French Toast with Butter
and Maple Syrup! fin!

I can see how dive bombing from hawks and such could cause injury, but turkeys and geese seem like too much humiliation for a grown man to take.

I used to take my daughter to a park to feed canada geese when she was about the same height as their beaks, and one of a crowd of geese got nippy at her face.
I backhanded that fucker 10 feed sideways and he didn't come to the front of the pack again. The rest got upset for about 10 seconds then kept eating bread as she handed it out.
Seems like turkeys could use a little physical convincing to behave too, if there were humans around that remembered how they got to the top of the food chain.

148 Secretly he slathers it with salted butter and pure WI Maple Syrup.

I made French toast about a week ago, and though I usually dust it with powdered sugar, I actually decided to pour maple syrup over it, just as a personal act of defiance.

It was delicious, though I will admit that texturally it was less than pleasing. Set egg custard and syrup produce a sub-optimal mouth feel, almost reminiscent of the shitty dessert that is flan.

With that said, I've been studying on how to make maple powdered sugar, so that I can enjoy a more pleasant texture while still giving CBD the middle finger.

Just saying that the fungus is out there and catching it in masks and then growing a colony in that nicely warm and damp mask is bound to cause trouble. Posted by: Eromero at November 28, 2022 10:00 PM (0OP+5)

They did. The money McConnell pulled from Bolduc and Masters he spent (and then some) on Oz and Walker. He spent relatively little against Tshibaka, probably because he knew Murkowski would win the runoff anyway and didn't want her to defect. McDaniels and Scott spent everything they had on Republican candidates, even Trump-endorsed ones.

You know who didn't? Trump. He raised a ton of money and spent it mostly on himself. Almost nothing supporting his endorsed candidates. And he ended the campaign with almost $70 million in the bank.

Even now, McConnell has committed $16 million to Walker's runoff and Trump has spent...nothing.

These numbers are derived from the relevant PACs on FEC.gov.

Pooky's best friend in the USAF had to detail every second of his three-week stay in Japan in high school in the late 90s to get a clearance. Yet the JEF goes to Pock-ee-stahn in college while it was "off-limits" and... crickets. Maybe I should have told the best friend to change his name to something more exotic and the State Dept would've left him alone.

501 Speaking of skittles there was a lady at work one year after Halloween that brought in left over candy. Namely a giant bag of m&ms and a giant bag of skittles. I then watched her set a big bowl on her desk, empty both bags into the one bowl, and mix it all up. I just watched mesmerized thinking's she can't really be doing this. She was completely unaware of what she did and my fellow cubemates certainly weren't going to tell her.

So the whole day when we'd see somebody walk down our aisle we'd all turn around nonchalantly and watch. Invariably they'd scoop up a bit, stuff it in, and then the look of horror on their face as they started to chew and taste the skittle+m&m abomination that was now sitting in their mouth. Sometimes you would see them stop and try to swollow it all as quick as possible like bad medicine. Sometimes they would turn around and march off for the head. So much entertainment that day

541 Better than Broth is great stuff, but hideously expensive, being a few ounce jar on the grocery store shelf.

You can buy quart sized plastic tubs of similar stock through your various restaurant supply houses. Gallon size, or five gallon pails, too.

My work and training, it was all five gallon pails. Sixty quart pots of soup, you'd be putting in a full quart of that stock, just to start the party.

Buy in quantity, if you can. You'll $ave money, in the long run.
