One of the few Michener novels I've read was Alaska. Partly because I was living there at the time. He talked about the Yukon river freezing so fast that there would be arcs of ice loudly forming in seconds. Maybe he saw this happen, or talked to old timers who saw this happen.

I do know that I have spit in the air and it was frozen by the time it hit the ground.

When we were stationed on Adak Alaska sea otters were everywhere. Our son was about two years old when we took him to a bridge by one of the multitude of bays that dotted the island. He saw sea otters swimming in the ocean for the first time and said they were dogs in the water.

The sentence probably appropriate but it aggravates me that I see plea deals for gang bangers where the charge should be first degree murder and it's pled down to manslaughter and they get 10 or less years.

Just got word today that a friend in Montana, who was all eaten up with prostate cancer, and a tumor in his nose, has made a big comeback. His PSA numbers are down to near-zero, and he is getting his strength back. Wonderful news.

249 Four counties have decided not to certify the AZ election results tonight - Cochise, Mohave, Gila and Yavapai - not sure there is enough there to change the way things are right now - but Yavapai does include the influential Prescott, AZ area. Pima and Maricopa are the real urban centers of AZ and thus McCain country for a large part.

The other counties besides Yavapai include large Indian Reservations. The AG is investigating the vote and AZ has until Nov 28 to certify the election - going to be interesting as to who blinks.
