Daily Tech News 17 November 2022

Top Story

  • Twitter workers are now being expected to, well, work. (Ace of Spades)

A good roundup of events with plenty of juicy links and communists to mock, plus details of the Deep State's determination to get that damn Musk now that he's taken one of their prime propaganda tools away from them.

  • Meanwhile Amazon has started its own massive layoffs of useless communists. (Thurrott.com)

They're not going to stop supporting communist causes, they're just not going to keep them on their payroll.

Which I suppose is something. Let them all start vegan organic locally-sourced fair trade coffee shops in Portland.

Tech News

  • Burn them to the ground, sow the ground with salt, load the salty dirt into a rocket, and launch it directly into the Sun.

And then hit the Sun with a relativistic neutron star just to make sure.

  • One $5000 AMD Epyc CPU outruns two $8000 Intel Xeons. (Phoronix)

True, it's a geometric mean of 200 benchmarks, both single and multi-threaded, and it doesn't fare quite so well when you only look at the multi-threaded workloads. Still impressive, particularly when we note that this is a 32 core chip in a range that goes up to 96 cores.

  • The Five Essential Keys. (Starlabs)

PgUp, PgDn, Home, End, and... SysRq?

Weird, but this is designed to be primarily a Linux laptop rather than Windows.

Choice of an Intel 12900H or AMD 6800H - similar compute performance but the integrated graphics on the AMD chip are twice as fast, up to 64GB of RAM and 4TB of SSD, a 3840x2400 display (or a 2560x1600 165Hz screen, but since it doesn't have a dedicated GPU that's kind of pointless), two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, three USB-A, HDMI, microSD, and an audio jack.

You can even customise the keyboard, but only if you choose the international layout which is kind of awful.

  • The Australian Stock Exchange has cancelled its five year mission to boldly go where no stock exchange has gone before. (The Block)

The plan was to record all trades on the blockchain. After five years of work they've scrapped the effort at a cost of A$250 million.

I could have failed to deliver that project in half the time at a quarter the cost. Call me next time, guys.

  • Micron is cutting DRAM and flash memory production by 20%. (Tom's Hardware)

It takes months for chips to go through the pipeline so this won't affect supply any time soon, but the supply chain may take the opportunity to increase prices. Probably not a lot, though. If the chips were selling well, Micron wouldn't be cutting production.

  • Lenovo is releasing another large, high resolution tablet. (Liliputing)

The 11" Tab Extreme joins the Tab K10, Tab M10 FHD, Tab M10 FHD Plus, Tab M10 Plus, Tab P11 Plus, Tab P11 Pro - I swear I am not making this up - and Tab P12 Pro in Lenovo's range of full-size tablets with 1920x1200 or higher resolution displays.

Their sole small high-resolution tablet available outside China, the M8 FHD, was quietly killed earlier this year.

Not that I am still salty about that at all.

7 Lenovo = Chinese crap. A question though --

How are they getting their CPUs, since they can't make them and supposedly the Chinese are under tech import restrictions due to being dickweeds.

Also Iran -- Their drones have been found to contain US made parts.

'Tis a mystery wrapped in an enema.

Howdy, y'all.

9 How are they getting their CPUs, since they can't make them and supposedly the Chinese are under tech import restrictions due to being dickweeds.

They can still buy commodity CPUs manufactured elsewhere. They can't buy the systems or technology needed to make their own advanced chips, and can't buy really high-end stuff for building supercomputers.

Well, actually not too bad. I got out of jury duty; my leg is doing better from the sciatica; I get off early today and will wash the car and pick up Miss Linda's b'day present; I received the new Peterson vintage pipe I bought (it's almost too handsome to smoke); and I got enough sleep last night, or nearly. And little Dagny the Siberian kitten is keeping me company. Stirling, the great black, is at "autumn camp" at Linda's.

I'm getting ready for Venezuela. Finished installing a 2.5 gallon electric water heater close to guest bathroom. Also plan on installing a second one, perhaps a third to cover every bath. You can't fill up a bathtub with hot water, but a decent length shower is achievable. It costs about .10 cents an hour to run, but installed a timer on it to only run one hour per day. $36.50 a year.

No home heating oil required.

If they haven't done anything wrong, what is there to hide?

Eh, I don't blame her.

She had a thriving clothing business. (Nice clothes, by the way. Mrs naturalfake looked good in everything Ivanka made.)

And the Democrats destroyed her business out of pure malice.

She probably wants a path forward from 2020, but there ain't no such animal. Nor will there be a measure of justice unless Trump wins. Poverty-stricken America courtesy of the Biden?Democrat economy made provide that opportunity. We'll see.

207 AZ Sec of Treasury
Kimberly Yee R 1,383,942 votes
Gov
Katie Hobbs D 1,281,958 votes
Senate
Mark Kelly D 1,315,771 votes

So a down ticket (R) got 100k more votes than the winning (D) for Gov and 70k more votes than the winning (D) for Senate.

Makes ZERO sense.

I got your nuance right here, pal. /s

Did Trump take the funds as a condition to throw in his hat and destroy his own populist movement that says America and Americans should be first - the one that he kind of started and led? That seems to be a bit of a ridiculous position. Billionaires are Americans and deserve a seat at the table with the rest of Americans; not the only seat

Did DeSantis? Do some people want to head down the same path as the Tea Party? Do some people want to be fooled again? All these seem to be open questions.

The whole "book deal" thing is a scam to pay off politicians (in this case, likely for betraying Trump).

How it works is that you get an advance, which is SUPPOSEDLY based on how many books the publisher thinks you'll sell. You don't generally have to pay back the advance, even if your book sells essentially no copies.

If you're politically connected, the (communist) publisher will pay you a very large advance, the (largely communist) book stores will order many copies of your book, even if it's a turkey, and the (communist) media will flog the book constantly.

When all is said and done, your "book" is on the $1.99 table at the front of the store, but that doesn't matter. You've already got your payola.
